I do hate those 'bad days'...
I spend the remainder of the day thinking of how I could how improved!
I think, however, the best thing to do when you're playing badly, is either stop playing or concentrate even more. Take a half hours break and then return to the game.
If you're too tired, don't go on playing. When I do that, I play even worse.

This bad day thingy...
i guess nobody can escape from it...
even national players and professional players undergo it too...that is why we need more practice to avoid this from happening....

I read somewhere that if you seem to be committing errors or playing bad shots during a game, try going back to doing basic shots like clears. This can help you get your timing back to improve execution of other shots and at least these are "high percentage" shots to help you avoid errors.

Yeah...
ur true...its actually right...today i play with my friend...during the match...i suddenly try using clears and finally that guy created mistake...
thats the point....

actually bad day is either from not enough sleep , eat too little / much , eat at the wrong time ( before a game ) , or it is just from your mind... for example u are bothered by something and because of that u cannot concentrate and play properly

Try not to get upset then try to go on an all out offensive. Don't freak out =]. I find that if I have a bad day, I should try to focus a bit more. Make sure I don't so many mishits.

I don't get bad days because I feel tired or sore or stuff like that, those are fine, even to me, because it's TOO FUN for me to be bothered w/ stuff like that.
Naw, it's when all my shots feel awkward and my smashes are all sliced and stuff like that. That's a bad day. Oh, and if I meet up with a cheater. Then, that stinks.
That is, unless I totally pwn that cheater :D and calm down more and get my shots right. Then it's all good.
Oh, and one more thing: If I break my racket. Or worse yet, I break someone else's...:crying:

I find myself having a bad day when I have too much on my mind and can not concentrate. Also when I lack sleep (less sleep than usual) I will perform poorly. Now I try to avoid playing if they do happen.

When i have a bad day and know i may very well lose the match, i do one of an number of things, first i play with simple shots and simple game plan therefor making less mistakes (and maybe less winners also), or i just resolve to make it as hard as possible for my advesery to get the point, i.e. he have to work hard for it. I make it a point to dive, chase down and return every shot, even though it may seem impossible to return the shot. It forces the opposing player to play one more shot. It also sends the message that i am not giving up on the match yet. hopefully it will put pressure on my opponent.

WOw...
how did u know international players??He was my coach and I asked him exactly the same question;)
Sometimes, on a particular day, whatever you do, you are not going to win. The important thing is to recognise that these days do happen, even to very, very good players. So, there is no point in getting frustrated with yourself. My attitude is to at least make the opponent work hard for his win but I keep my gameplan simple and try to learn something about his game for the next time.

Yeah...
when u undergo that situation...u have to play normal strokes....dun be too fancy...

One of those "bad days" happened to me yesterday.
As a result of better footwear, my footwork was much improved. However, the quality of my shots went away after having lunch. Sad, really. I was chasing the shuttle a lot better, but hitting it the way I wanted to was another matter all together!
I used to get so upset with myself on days like these, but I try to let it go now and say "don't worry, it can happen to anyone."

there are days when my shots are appalling. then there are days in which my shots always work, net rolls, line shots, everything comes rolling in on good days. the key is not to be angry, and enjoy
missbrainy12
08-17-2007, 10:36 AM
When I have a bad day, it angers me, and then I play even worse. To try and counter my anger I count to 5 (either outloud or mentally) because I read somewhere that counting using a different part of the brain as the one that makes you angry. But seriously, counting to 5 helps you cool down yo' anger.

Yeah, I also do that from time to time when I play bad. Helps to focus again and cut out the bad shots made.

most players would have encounter such day... when every shots couldn't go over the net or just hitting the tip of the net... i normally would take a rest and think of what's wrong. The best thing that helped me is pumped myself up mentally, like shouting.. "ho!!!" or something like that same as the professionals do
ZhiWeiZ
08-18-2007, 04:46 AM
Yeah...the shouting is the best part !!!
It fears ur opponent and it affects psychologically...ur opponent maybe afraid of u...
mentality does talk in the game...

Hmm can't fully agree there. If my opponent starts shouting to himself when making a mistake, I rather feel more motivated because it shows that he's getting angry with himself and maybe a bit frustrated.
This may be true for some people though, guess it depends on the person
ZhiWeiZ
08-18-2007, 05:18 AM
Yeah...somehow it is a yes to ur statement !!!
I do agree too !!!
Hehe...well at a long rally and u get to win that point...i bet u all will shout...its natural right?? WHy???
CUz we worked hard to win that point in the game...i do shout...always...in doubles normally...

Jup when you win a crucial point it's a different story, than of course I'll shout too^^
My post was only about when one looses a point and shouts at oneself.

ya, shouting is the best part, but i find more of my opponents gets afraid when i start shouting, because when i shout my partners shouts as well plus both of us a explosive players so when we shout we play even more aggressive games.

I agree too !!!
Badminton requires physical and mental !!!
Taufik hidayat played with Lin Dan mentally in Doha Asian Games !!!

Sounds like a super aggressive pair to me.. Lol! Can just imagine the sight...:p
Bad days... well it happens I suppose. Today during training most of my shots(drops, slices, smashes) ended up in the net. There were a few factors though.. like I only had about 6 hours of sleep before I got up for training, then I wore a new pair of shoes that I'm never gonna for wear for badminton again, and I just had my racquet restrung, was totally unused to it.
So all these factors combined I just could not play well, shoes gave a biggest problems(don't buy Hi-Tec shoes!!), kept nearly twisting my ankles in it, the heels were so high it's hard to play in it.

my worse day normally occurs after a really big tournament,
after finishing it and playing social a few days later i couldnt even hit the shuttle, total lack of concentration because my body was working at 100% then afterwards it just falls to 0%
does this happen to others?

My fault lah.. I think.. I bought an ankle guard yesterday cause lately my ankle has been a bit.. 'loose'. First day I wore the ankle guard today it twisted. Go figure. I think cause the ankle guard caused the friction to decrease between the shoe and my feet, so it twisted..

Oh btw...
there's a thread saying ankle guard is not good for the ankle, so dun use ankle guard la...so gaya like that...but still injured in the end ler...:crying:

This is exactly what I am experiencing all the time. Since most of us here are not professional players, we have our day jobs, or classes for those who are still studying, you just cannot keep your mind or body at the top condition like the pro do before matches. Sometimes you work too hard before your play, sometimes it is so happen that you have not enough sleep the night before, there are so many factors affecting your form.
Once you are carrying this form onto the court, you'll know what is going to happen next. Your net play are horrible, your backhands all end up into the net, your smashes are all outside the lines...... etc etc. It is just a typical bad day.
I think on such a 'bad' day, all you can do is kind of leave it, take it easy. Pushing harder may even results in injuries. If you think you are just playing for fun, then I guess you can just do nothing and enjoy the workout, if it is an important match, better do a good preparation next time.

i agree with eating too close to game time and not enough sleeping. normally i find the best for me to give like 2 hours interval between meal and the game. but sometimes due to work i don't have that priviledge :( when eating time too close.. i find i have no power at all, no matter how hard i try, it just seem my hit is way softer than normal and my feet feel 'lazy' to move around.. if i don't have enough sleep i tend to make alot of error and not accurate.. also tendency to get cram :(

Yeah...when u play a serious game, u really have to get a good rest !!!
Agree with u !!!

Usually, I only have "bad days" on few occasions :
1. First day with a new racket
2. Soaked wet due to raining when i was on the way to session (I'm a motorcyclist)
3. Tried too hard to win. It happens :o
