View Full Version : Russian Open 2007
CLELY 06-28-2007, 02:22 AM According to BWF calendar, Russian Open will be held in its capital city, Moscow on scheduled from 06 to 09 December 2007 which provide total prize-money US$125,000.
Here's the link : www.internationalbadminton.org/calendar.asp?month=12&year=2007&submit=submit
It means there are 6 badminton tournaments that categorized GP Gold level in this year : Thailand, Philippines, India, Chinese Taipei, Macao and Russia.
Krisna 06-29-2007, 02:37 PM I heard the Russians are really into badminton now... However, I am still surprised they now have one International Challenge tournament and one Grand Prix Gold tournament. They must be pretty confident the 2 tournaments will draw a lot of crowd...
Krisna 06-29-2007, 02:38 PM Actually, badminton will suit the Russians well... because it is an indoor sport that can be played during their looonnnnggg winters...

J_M_V 06-30-2007, 02:42 PM Quite a few russians come to Finland for smaller tournaments, and at least what I've seen they use AS-50's. So no cheap Chinese shuttles there... :p
Pete LSD 07-01-2007, 03:21 PM Yes, AS-50 is an expensive Made in China feather shuttle :D.

..and i would attest to that, as witnessed, by how they "dismantled" the rest of the competition in last yr's U.S. Open, here in L.A., winning the XD, WD and WS titles..

Hopefully those same players can come back again this yr..;)
Krisna 08-16-2007, 01:20 AM We will all wait for Russian Badminton's Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova! Badminton will then get a lot of attention from everyone! Then... we can hope for higher prize money for everyone! I can't wait! :D
It is still dissapointing to see that the prize money for All England winners are almost equal to the first round loosers at Wimbledon...
will_kit 08-16-2007, 02:10 AM Russina Badminton Anna Kournikova? LOL...you have to wait for the next century mate!

Krisna 08-23-2007, 12:23 PM Russian Badminton Anna Kournikova? LOL...you have to wait for the next century mate!
I predict in the next decade we will see one Russian Badminton Anna K. ... ;) To my knowledge, Anna Kournikova have never won a pro-tournament in her life... :p She is famous because of her looks, not because she won Grand Slam tournaments. So it is not hard to get Anna's version from Russian Badminton. ;)
I admit it is far harder getting the Maria Sharapova version who is beautiful and wins a lot of big tournaments... :p
X Ball 09-18-2007, 02:59 AM Imagine Tatiana Chechnikov, a cross between Kournikova and Sharapova, wouldn't it be awesome ? That would bring badminton fans in droves ! Every game would be standing room only.

Lingguat 10-29-2007, 04:44 AM Soon Russian will be good in badminton and will bring in crowd if they have pretty players.....
hhs1000 10-29-2007, 07:22 AM One obvious thing for Asian ladies players to learn from their Russian counterpart is the way they dress. I believe this is easier to do, no hours of training needed, just hours of shopping.
It will definitely increase the game popularity by a few notches.

Krisna 11-13-2007, 06:29 AM I was informed today that PBSI will send their 2nd tier players such as Tommy Sugiarto, Andreas Adityawarman, Pia, Bona-Ahsan, Tantowi-Yulianti, Rizal-Devi etc. to the Russian Open. The final list is yet to be disclosed. Their schedule will be Korea Challenge + Russian Open. With some of the interning "magang" young athletes playing only in Korea Challenge.
In addition to PBSI, the Djarum Badminton club will also send 10 INA athletes there. The list possibly include Andre, Wahyu, Hayom, Rian, Yoke, Fran, Rendra, Febe, Sylvi, Fira... No Mel-Shendy this time... Unlike the PBSI athletes, the Djarum kids will go to the Russian Open and the Italian Challenge...

Good decision by PBSI this time :)
We'll see if Bona/Ahsan and Tantowi/Yulianti can perform in Korea and Russia (esp). Given the strength of the Korean MD pairs (as we saw last week in Hanoi), it's unlikely Bona/Ahsan can win the title, but, a Semi-Final is expected of them given their high rank.
Krisna 11-13-2007, 11:02 AM I have faith in Lius, Christian, Hendrawan, Richard Mainaky, etc. that they will make good decisions... er... as long as they got financial backing... :p;) As we all know money is never-NEVER enough for PBSI... For the time being, PBSI is fine due to the Rp 20 billion in fund-raising by Pak Sutiyoso one month before he steps down as Governor. :D
Without money, then all their decisions will look disastrous [for us outsiders]...
CLELY 11-14-2007, 02:20 AM Just read from official web of this tourney, Russian Open 2007 is their 1st edition of badminton world GP event and sponsored by Babolat. Hopefully this racket sport can grow up soon here, badminton needs another huge country to become more popular beside CHN of course...
Don't know whether top shuttlers will fly to Moscow, the weather must be so cold plus unfriendly schedule (after 2 SS).
Krisna 11-18-2007, 01:35 AM The schedule is perfect for up and coming players & pairs... While the best of the world are battling it out in the 2 SS, they can just dominate Russia...
chemile 11-20-2007, 09:59 AM Indonesia squad (incl. Djarum Club players):
MS:
1. Andre Kurniawan Tedjono
2. Tommy Sugiarto
3. Ari Yuli Wahyu
4. Alamsyah Yunus
5. Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka
6. Andreas Adityawarman
7. Andi Hartanto (qual)
WS:
1. Sylvinna Kurniawan (qual)
2. Maria Elfira (qual)
3. Fransisca Ratnasari (qual)
MD:
1. Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama
2. Bona Septano/Ahsan
3. Fran Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya
4. Anggun Nugroho/Ahmad Tantowi (???)
WD:
1. Nathalia Poluakan/Yulianti
XD:
1. Akhmad Tantowi/Yulianti
2. Nathalia Poluakan/Anggun Nugroho
Look like tough matches for Indonesia youngsters since many top players, mainly from Europe participate in this tournament. Quarter Final is good achievement, altough I hope they can through to SF (Tantowi/Yulianti, Andre, and Rian/Yoke). They have good opportunity to become a champion than the others Indonesian...
huangkwokhau 11-20-2007, 04:58 PM Dont forget Maria Febe also in Quali.........
Krisna 11-20-2007, 09:25 PM Andre and Rian-Yoke are seeded #8.... Ok lah, not bad...
Krisna 11-20-2007, 09:35 PM I am pretty sure Sylvi, Febe, Fira, and Nana can qualify to the main draw... their opponents in the qualifying rounds are not that tough... I just hope they remember to use the nationality separation rule so our girls won't clash with each other so early in the tournament.
I was also hoping that PBSI would send Firda, Pia, and Maria Kristin to Russia. Since these girls have a better shot at winning the Russian Open rather than the HK SS...
This is a great event to show the Russians, Ukranians, Slovenians, Lithuanians, Estonians etc. how the tropical island people play badminton...
badMania 11-20-2007, 10:42 PM It will be tough for Rian/Yoke to win the event....with the participation of Japanese pair and European pairs. We'll see if they can progress to the SF. Bona/Ahsan just missed out on being seeded
The WD and XD are also interesting, with Chinese-Taipei, Chinese, and Korean pairs. Tantowi/Yulianti will be lucky if they can clear one round. Seems that PBSI will be pairing Yulianti with Nathalia Poluakan from now on?
Good to see Andre Kurniawan being seeded in a GP Gold event. But, winning it will be extremely hard as Chen Yu and Chen Hong are the top two seeds.
CLELY 11-20-2007, 11:40 PM Obviously, INA participates this tourney just to gain competing experience. From seeding report, it's quite strong line-up in all divisions particularly MS and WS which the top-two seeds are Chen Yu, Chen Hong in MS and Pi Hongyan, Xu Huaiwen in WS respectively.
Seems many participants will coming from Europe countries including former Soviet Republics. Good for badminton development...
Krisna 11-21-2007, 03:10 AM Interestingly, Chen Yu, Chen Hong, Xu Huawen, and Pi Hongyan all participated in China SS and Hong Kong SS before the Russian Open... Won't they feel tired playing 3 straight tournaments?
Zhu Jingjing, Wang Lin and Wang Yihan, on the other hand, will go straight to Russia Open and skip Hong Kong SS... They might just do better than their tired Seniors...

Xu Huai wen was injured yesterday after playing Wang Lin...She might skip HK open as well as Russian open as it was quite bad...( according to her).....
Krisna 11-22-2007, 04:38 AM The Russian Open draw is out... good draw for INA in MD and XD, not so good in MS and WS... Too many INA vs. INA in the early rounds... aiyaa...
CLELY 11-22-2007, 11:29 PM Yeah, the drawing has released by BWF. This RUS Open doesn't attract many top-players like other previous GP Gold tourney where all tournaments located in Asia region (ABC-THA-PHI-TPE-Macau), the entries is rather similar with GP level tournament.
From WS drawing, Pi Hongyan has cancelled her trip to Moskwa so Xu Huaiwen replaced her position as top-seed.

The Russian Open schedule is just too close to China SS and Hong Kong SS... Of course the top players are already exhausted to play 3 tournaments back-to-back-to-back... :p
Really? Pi Hongyan cancelled? Hau-ge also said Xu Huawen is injured... Then this tournament can be more open for Wang Lin, Wang Yihan, and Zhu Jingjing, similar to the Vietnam Open a few weeks ago...
yannie 11-23-2007, 01:19 PM Andre and Rian-Yoke are seeded #8.... Ok lah, not bad...

WS Q2 matchups:
Fransisca Ratnasari vs Evgenia Dimova or Kamilla Augustyn
Sylvinna Kurniawan vs Chen Jiayuan or Linda Zechiri
Maria Elfira Christina vs Alesia Zaitsava or Tatjana Bibik
Nana won and thru main draw ( defeating Linda Zechiri)
Silvi lost to Zechiri in 2nd round
Fira def Bibik in 2 round, now playing with Olga galvanova, 21-15, now in 2nd set ( Olga leading 6-3)
badMania 12-05-2007, 09:11 AM Nana won and thru main draw ( defeating Linda Zechiri)
Silvi lost to Zechiri in 2nd round
Fira def Bibik in 2 round, now playing with Olga galvanova, 21-15, now in 2nd set ( Olga leading 6-3)
Not bad....Nana seems to have shown some improvements?
Early defeat for most of Djarum's WS players....sigh....
badMania 12-05-2007, 09:15 AM Hau-Ge, Fransisca Ratnasari will now play your friend, Filipa Lamy in the first round. Quite a winnable match for Nana, she will probably face Cheng Shao-Chieh [8] for a place in the last eight.
If Maria Elfira Christina wins, she will face a tough tie against Eriko Hirose [3] in R32 tomorrow.
Meanwhile, any news on MXQ where Anggun Nugroho/Nathalia Christine Poluakan are also playing today?

Eriko Hirose withdrew...Fira in the 3rd set....leading 14-5...Olga looked tired.......do not know who replacing Hirose...
badMania 12-05-2007, 09:29 AM Tomorrow will see quite a number matches involving Team INA and Djarum, with predicted winners in bold.
MEN'S SINGLES R64
Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka vs Klaus Raffeiner
Q3 vs Andreas Adityawarman
Q2 vs Tommy Sugiarto
Alamsyah Yunus vs Luka Petric
MEN'S SINGLES R32 (to be played tomorrow too)
Sho Sasaki [6] vs Ari Yuli Wahyu Hartanto
Andre Kurniawan Tedjono [8] vs Michal Matejka
Andreas Adityawarman vs Tommy Sugiarto -- if both win their R64 match.
Raju Rai vs Alamsyah Yunus -- if both win their R64 match.
MEN'S DOUBLES R32
Tantowi Akhmad/Anggun Nugroho vs Q2
Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki [8] vs Evgenij Dremin/Alexej Vasiljev -- a tricky tie against the home pair, I hope Rian/Yoke can progress at least to the Semi-Final.
Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan vs Kristof Hopp/Ingo Kindervater [5] -- an unlucky tie against the 5th seed German pair, who is more experienced than Bona/Ahsan. It will be a good progress for them if they can upset the German pair.
Rendra Wijaya/Fran Kurniawan vs Chris Langridge/Richard Eidestedt -- also a tricky one for Rendra/Fran, but, they should manage.
WOMEN'S SINGLES R32
Filipa Lamy vs Fransisca Ratnasari -- will this mark a comeback for the former INA no 1 player?
WOMEN'S DOUBLES R32
Yulianti/Nathalia Christine Poluakan vs Panushkina Anastasia/Irina Hlebko -- the INA pair should be able to pass their first test in Moscow.
MIXED DOUBLES R32
Andrew Bowman/Sarah Bok vs Tantowi Akhmad/Yulianti -- a reasonable first test for INA's most promising XD pair.
badMania 12-05-2007, 09:32 AM Eriko Hirose withdrew...Fira in the 3rd set....leading 14-5...Olga looked tired.......do not know who replacing Hirose...
In that case, Fira should take it. There should be quite a number of withdrawals, esp if the Koreans decide not to participate after the tiring Super Series matches in the past fortnight.

Anggun/Nathalia goes to main draw due to withdrawal..
Maria elfira def Olga galvanova in 3 sets and she will meet Olga Konon who replaces Hirose...could be tough...hope Fira prevails...

Good news...do u have any complete updates on the withdrawals?
huangkwokhau 12-05-2007, 09:51 AM all Koreans withdrew....... as they have said to us during HK open
badMania 12-05-2007, 09:53 AM Good news for INA fans...the Russian Open is in tournamentsoftware.com, with live score, although it's not working yet as of now  Probably tomorrow when the main draw begins!
As expected, the Korean team has withdrawn, and there's no Andreas Adityawarman in the MS draw  Lee Hyun Il's withdrawal makes it a good opportunity for Tommy Sugiarto to reach the QF or even SF if he can beat Lu Yi.
Additional matches:
WOMEN'S SINGLES R32
Olga Konon vs Maria Elfira Christina -- another tricky tie for Fira, of course, we hope she can win.
MIXED DOUBLES R32
Anggun Nugroho/Nathalia Christine Poluakan vs Chris Adcock/Gabrielle White -- with Anggun's experience, I think they should beat the ENG pair. If both INA pairs win tomorrow, one QF spot is guaranteed.
huangkwokhau 12-05-2007, 09:56 AM I doubt that Yuyang and Du Jing will be there..but their XD coach said that they should go there...lets see!
huangkwokhau 12-05-2007, 09:57 AM I heard that Chen Hong's not certain yet if he will show up.......
badMania 12-05-2007, 10:03 AM I doubt that Yuyang and Du Jing will be there..but their XD coach said that they should go there...lets see!
More good news if Yu Yang decides not to go there. It might be true though since all the Chinese players might be involved in the Training Camp in Zhuhai starting from tomorrow  Du Jing/Yu Yang is one of the pair targetted for the Olympics.
If He Hanbin/Yu Yang also withdraws at the last minute, then I think the INA XD pair (hopefully Tantowi/Yulianti) can progress to the SF.
huangkwokhau 12-05-2007, 05:41 PM So far Du Jing/Yu Yang, He Hanbin are still in teh draw including Xu Huai wen which supposed to withdraw .........
Sandy 12-05-2007, 07:19 PM Who are qualfy in MS & WS ?
tournamentsofware update so late
huangkwokhau 12-05-2007, 08:17 PM I depend on someone who only updateed all INA players...
CLELY 12-05-2007, 10:37 PM Good news for INA fans...the Russian Open is in tournamentsoftware.com, with live score, although it's not working yet as of now  Probably tomorrow when the main draw begins!
Yeah, gladly to know this RUS GP Gold is using tournament software and live score facility. It's obviously better than other previous GP Gold tourneys, let's see whether the LIVE SCORE will be active for today's match that kicks off at 10.00am Moscow time (02.00pm WIB ; 03.00pm CHN/HKG/SIN/MAS time).
AlanL 12-06-2007, 12:01 AM I don’t think too much withdrawal is good for badminton in Russia. We need to expand badminton to europe to make it bigger…
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 02:31 AM Xu Huai Wen did not withdraw..she will try to play to see how her injury...
badMania 12-06-2007, 02:42 AM Xu Huai Wen did not withdraw..she will try to play to see how her injury...
What abt the Chinese players? Lu Yi is already playing...but I am not sure abt the rest
badMania 12-06-2007, 03:18 AM He Hanbin/Yu Yang are not playing currently....it is a high possibility they withdraw
badMania 12-06-2007, 03:19 AM Both INA XD pairs are in trouble. Andrew Bowman/Sarah Bok are running away with the first set, while Chris Adcock/Gabrielle White have forced Anggun Nugroho/Nathalia Poluakan to a deuce.
badMania 12-06-2007, 03:22 AM Anggun/Nathalia take the first set 23-21.
Meanwhile Tantowi/Yulianti are struggling with the tougher opponents at a GP Gold Event, losing 9-21 in the first set. Can they rebound in the second set?
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 03:30 AM May be they withdraw..there is no match...I thought China sent them as it is easy point for them to win here.......they should not withdraw.....
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 03:31 AM Yulianti/Tantowi was leading 10-6 to lose 10-11.....come on!!

Stage fright for Towi/Yuli  They lost to a more experienced pair Andrew Bowman/Sarah Bok 9-21, 15-21.
Meanwhile, Anggun Nugroho/Nathalia Christine Poluakan beat Chris Adcock/Gabrielle White 23-21, 21-12. They should go far if He Hanbin/Yu Yang withdraw. They will face Bowman/Bok tomorrow. With some luck, they might even win the title. We'll see.....
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 03:44 AM I think he Han bin/Yu Yang will play now..........
taufik-ist 12-06-2007, 03:45 AM what have i been mising here ? :D :D
badMania 12-06-2007, 03:46 AM No more games involving INA players until the WS later on with 2 players: Maria Elfira Christina (2:20pm Moscow Time) and Fransisca Ratnasari (3:00pm). Both should win today.
MD matches will be played at 4:40pm onwards:
Anggun Nugroho/Tantowi Akhmad (4:40pm)
Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki (same as above)
Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan (5:20pm)
Rendra Wijaya/Fran Kurniawan (6:00pm)
Just 1 match in WD, also at 6pm with Yulianti/Nathalia Christine Poluakan
Then, the night matches start at 8pm:
Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and Ari Yuli Wahyu Hartanto (8pm)
Andre Kurniawan Tedjono (8:40pm)

I thought they will win too....but...this is a GP Gold event...so...the learning curve is pretty steep for the young Pelatnas pair.
badMania 12-06-2007, 03:56 AM Ingo Kindervater/Katrin Piotrowski are also forced to a rubber...29-30 in the second set...interesting  Well, I hope Anggun/Lia can qualify for the QF...the furthest they can possibly go now.
badboypedi 12-06-2007, 04:13 AM kindervater/piotrowski had won the third set, now the road to qf is nearly free :)
badMania 12-06-2007, 06:39 AM Both Maria Elfira Christina and Fransisca Ratnasari have progressed to R16.
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 06:42 AM Both Maria Elfira Christina and Fransisca Ratnasari have progressed to R16.
Fira has a good chance to reach QTR...I hope Nana can defeat Cheng to reach QTR...who would have thought that Nana has improved since her slump last year and this year...
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 07:01 AM Rumbaka goes to R16....opponent is injured...
badMania 12-06-2007, 07:03 AM Look's like this thread is going to be populated by only INA fans.....with no MAS participation :D
Yup, Maria Elfira Christina faces Katie Tolmoff tomorrow in a winnable tie.
It will be tough for Fransisca Ratnasari against Cheng Shao-Chieh, but, for her to win 1 match in the main draw is already a good enough result
badMania 12-06-2007, 07:03 AM Rumbaka goes to R16....opponent is injured...
Oh? News-flash from someone in the stadium?
badMania 12-06-2007, 07:06 AM It's really good that Russian Open decides to adopt tournamentsoftware at the last minute...now we can have the luxury of live-scores :D
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 07:11 AM Oh? News-flash from someone in the stadium?
Yes....thats right!:D

Cheng Shao Chieh has not performed well..so Nana should take her chances...
badMania 12-06-2007, 07:21 AM Ok...MD will start shortly....with Rian/Yoke and Anggun/Tantowi.
badboypedi 12-06-2007, 08:00 AM what the hell happened to juliane schenk? how could she lose against yu hirayama? i hope she just had a bady day and is not injured as her doubles "mate" nicole grether
badMania 12-06-2007, 08:35 AM Rian/Yoke lost the second set 19-21, despite leading 14-10  They took the first set easily 21-10.
Meanwhile, Anggun Nugroho/Tantowi Akhmad have beaten their opponent in rubber-sets 21-9, 17-21, 21-14. They will entertain the 4th seed Mike Beres/William Milroy tomorrow.
badMania 12-06-2007, 08:54 AM It was an unconvincing start for Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki as they beat Evgenij Dremin/Alexej Vasiljev 21-10, 19-21, 23-21. The Russian pair actually had a match point at 21-20 before Rian/Yoke finished them off with the final 3 points of the match. What a close shave......
They better play better if they are to stand a chance against the vastly improving Tsai Chia-Hsin/Hu Chung-Hsien tomorrow
badMania 12-06-2007, 09:15 AM As expected, Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan are still inexperienced as they lost 17-21, 16-21 to the 5th-seed Kristof Hopp/ Ingo Kindervater.

are bona/mohd youth players? how old are they?
badMania 12-06-2007, 09:40 AM are bona/mohd youth players? how old are they?
Bona/Ahsan are both 20 yo.
badMania 12-06-2007, 09:46 AM Rendra Wijaya/Fran Kurniawan also progress to R16 after a straight-set victory over Chris Langridge/Richard Eidestedt 21-18, 21-14. They will face the second-seed Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak tomorrow. A tough match is in store
In the WD, Yulianti/Nathalia Christine Poluakan are forced into rubber-set
badMania 12-06-2007, 09:59 AM Yulianti/Nathalia Christine Poluakan have progressed after a rubber-set 21-13, 15-21, 21-10 victory over a Russian pair. They will face the top-seed Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing tomorrow.
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 05:56 PM It was an unconvincing start for Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki as they beat Evgenij Dremin/Alexej Vasiljev 21-10, 19-21, 23-21. I have been told that linesmen are very amateur....they point the shuttle "in" or "out" later...it is telmi ( telat mikir)...creating a few chaos....:D:D...

Nina Vislova, the 2007 Dutch Open finalist
Do you see her resemblance with Maria Sharapova? :) I do.
She does has the resemblance. But she have a Bad temper boy. You can try her out. I think this tournament will be one sided.. bit boring.
badMania 12-06-2007, 06:38 PM She does has the resemblance. But she have a Bad temper boy. You can try her out. I think this tournament will be one sided.. bit boring.
One sided...maybe for those involving Russian players only?? There are quite a number of interesting matches with a few upsets yesterday  China might win a few titles here, but, to say that it is a one sided tournament will be an understatement
Well, with no Malaysian representatives, it might be boring for Malaysian fans, but, it's certainly still an interesting tournament for Indonesian fans, even though we might end up with nothing after all :p
vching 12-06-2007, 06:50 PM because there are no malaysian players involved, the forum is so quiet.......
badMania 12-06-2007, 06:54 PM Not bad, most INA players have advanced to R16.
MEN'S SINGLES R16
Chen Yu [1] vs Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka -- the Chinese player to win!
Ari Yuli Wahyu Hartanto vs Hsieh Yu-Hsin -- Wahyu has done well to beat Sho Sasaki. He might suprise us again today.
Andre Kurniawan Tedjono [8] vs Kestusis Navickas -- should be a straight forward win for Andre.
Tommy Sugiarto vs Dmytro Zavadsky -- Tommy should advance.
Alamsyah Yunus vs Chen Hong [2] or Kaveh Mehrabi -- I have a feeling Chen Hong withdraws. If so, Alam has a good chance against Kaveh Mehrabi.
MEN'S DOUBLES R16
Mike Beres/William Milroy [4] vs Anggun Nugroho/Tantowi Akhmad -- I am predicting an upset here....and if both Anggun/Towi and Rian/Yoke win today, they will meet in the QF.
Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki [8] vs Tsai Chia-Hsin/Hu Chung-Hsien -- Rian/Yoke were very nervous yesterday and let's hope they can beat the Chinese-Taipei pair, who did the upset over Koo/Tan just 2 weeks ago.
Rendra Wijaya/Fran Kurniawan vs Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak [2] -- Rendra/Fran have an uphill task of beating the second seed. Let's see if they can stretch the more experienced pair to at least a rubber-set.
WOMEN'S SINGLES R16
Maria Elfira Christina vs Kati Tolmoff -- I hope Fira can win.
Fransisca Ratnasari vs Cheng Shao-Chieh [8] -- the odds are on the Chinese-Taipei player to win...but...it will be a very good result for Nana if she can upset the 8th seed.
WOMEN'S DOUBLES R16
Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing [1] vs Yulianti/Nathalia Christine Poluakan -- likewise, it will be difficult for Yuli/Lia to beat the vastly experienced Chinese-Taipei pair.
MIXED DOUBLES R16
Anggun Nugroho/Nathalia Christine Poluakan vs Andrew Bowman/Sarah Bok -- with Anggun's experience, I hope this new pair can qualify for the QF and avenge Towi/Yuli's loss yesterday.
badMania 12-06-2007, 06:55 PM because there are no malaysian players involved, the forum is so quiet.......
We enjoy the quietness....:D
I expect to see many European players.. but it seems that they are not interested to join. The only exciting player i'm looking at is Robert Blair. Thats why its boring.

Well, the ENG first team is not there, but, the second team is there. Coupled with Xu Huaiwen, some Chinese players like Chen Yu, Wang Yihan, Du Jing/Yu Yang, He Hanbin/Yu Yang, most of the Chinese-Taipei players, some veteran MD pairs like Logosz/Mateusiak, Hopp/Kindervater, and some interesting young pairs, it's still a good tournament.
Initially, we thought that the participation is going to be even less competitive than the field we have.
I heard that some pretty players are there...:D:D.....
if i'm there.. i will not be watching badminton already. Its nice in Russia.. most the girls seems to look lika Sharapova.. there is a common face.
CLELY 12-06-2007, 11:45 PM From RUS Open's website, today's match (07 December/07) will play 2 rounds for all divisions :
- Round of 16 will start at 10.00am local time
- Quarterfinal : 04.00pm (08.00pm WIB) with order to play XD-WS-MD-WD-MS
That schedule is quite strange as we know players usually playing preliminary round and quarter in different day.
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 11:50 PM It was about 20% full yesterday.......I do not know the exact capacity....will find out more.....
huangkwokhau 12-06-2007, 11:51 PM if i'm there.. i will not be watching badminton already. Its nice in Russia.. most the girls seems to look lika Sharapova.. there is a common face.
