Chong Wei faces uphill task in the China Masters

PETALING JAYA: National number one men’s singles shuttler Lee Chong Wei has a mountain to climb in his bid to reach the final of the China Masters in Chengdu from July 10-15.
In the draw released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) yesterday, four top players - China’s Lin Dan (top seed) and Bao Chunlai, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Denmark’s Peter Gade-Christensen - are drawn in the same half with the Malaysian in the seventh leg of the Super Series event.
And this has set the stage for some exciting early round clashes.
Chong Wei, who moved up one rung to the third spot in the world after his impressive outing in the recent Sudirman Cup, will likely take on either Taufik or Gade-Christensen in the quarter-finals.
Olympic champion Taufik and the Dane, who bagged the Malaysian Open early this year, are expected to clash in the second round.
One of these three players - Chong Wei, Taufik and Gade-Christensen - are expected to meet world number one Lin Dan, who will be out to prove his worth after coming under fire for his defeat to Chong Wei at the Sudirman Cup, in the semi-finals.
But firstly, Lin Dan may have to face Chunlai in the quarter-finals.
In the lower half of the draw, the players to beat are China’s Chen Jin and Chen Hong, the second seed.
Malaysia’s Mohd Hafiz Hashim, who is determined to make a strong comeback after taking a break for his wedding in June, is expected to meet Chen Jin in the second round.
Another Malaysian, veteran Wong Choong Hann, has been drawn to meet Chen Hong in the first round.
In the men’s doubles, Indonesians stand in the way of two Malaysian pairs.
Third seeds Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah are expected to take on arch-rivals Luluk Hadiyanto-Alven Yulianto while Chan Chong Ming-Hoon Thien How face second seeds Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan in the opening round.
Malaysia’s other men’s doubles pairs in the fray are Indonesian Open runners-up Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and Tan Bin Shen-Ong Soon Hock. Both pairs have easy early round matches.

The best time to meet CJ is in the first round when skills matter more than stamina. CJ's skills' improving but I think his netplay is still nervy.Boonsak's skills ' more convincing plus his INA coach 's a very sharp tactician. If Boonsak can take TH to 3 games in IO07 after playing the full tourney in SO07, I don't see how he can't take care of CJ. Unless of course he decides to go for the lines and let the line judges decide the match outcome.Boonsak's too smart for that.

Just hoping that no one withdraws...it is very common that some players may not show up for whatever reasons..otherwise..it will be amazing line up.....

I am wondering if Chen Hong can have enough stamina....after superliga then Thai open...plus china master then Phillipine open....seems to me it is just too much for CH....good that sony withdrew from Thai to conserve some energy..

These are the "short cuts" plus malaysian slangs - la and ler, used by today's youth when using the sms over their cell phones. It is a worrying trend and it may just destrroy the use of proper english......sigh :(

Yeah, KKK & TBH have no choice but to stay for practise. They will only reappear in Phillipines Open. Rexy has already calculated their winning probalities. Even if they win, they cannot overtake China Pair. (Based on point ranking) Vice versa, not much changes on them if they pass this tournament, since it is almost impossible for the Danish to win (based on their current form), Markis & Hendra shown inconsistency, wheareas the Korean Pair doesnt affect much too. Nevertheless, it wont be too often as it will be too taxing to gain back valuable points if is too late.
