still nobody knows where this tournament will take place ?? .. it seems a little bit weird, we're already in july, almost august and we still don't know the venue

if what ants says is true - its a most interesting choice. most likely the aspire sports city hall will again be the venue, not a regular badminton venue but from the reaction of few of the players who were there, they were pretty happy with the facilities.

though one must remember that the schedule was affected due to a leaking roof due to rains in doha which caught us all by suprise.

It is strange that now entering August, the final venue has yet to be made known officially. I mean this is the inaugural year of the Super Series, you would imagine BWF would to end the first year with a big bang with a good show in the SS Final. To do that you need promotion, marketing etc etc and you can't do that with too little time left, especially for the host and organising committee.

Given the SS final is scheduled immediately after the SEA Game held in Bangkok, where the power house of Malaysia and Indonesia, and to some extent the Thailand and Singapore players, will be fighting for the regional glory, their top players will play for sure. If the SS Final venue is far off, it may be disadvantage to these players.

The earlier BWF annouces the venue, the better the preparation will be for the organising committee as well as the players.

The dates are actually a bad time for me. I wlll be in Malaysia!

Of course its safe in Dubai. Its a nice tourist destination too. You will be amaze of what Dubai has to offer.

Honestly I do not like Dubai....too hot there...I have not been there in the last 5 yrs I have to admit....It is not exciting destination spot....just to go there to watch badminton.....

INA will qualify in 3 aeras..except WS and not sure WD as Polii/Vita is still number 6 so far...with 4 SS to go..they may go down....:D:D

why not have the Finals in the bay area .... there are tons of places for the players to practice ..... unfortunately there is almost nothing in the east coast.

..don't count our Hau-ge out from coming to the SS Grand Prix Finale (where ever that may be)..:cool:

The later BWF make their decision, the less possible candidates to host the event will become. It is not easy to cover all the administrative and logistic arrangement if BWF make their request very late.

Donot forget the scheduled data is almost immediately after SEA Games (which will be held in Bangkok), a lot of SEA countries will be busy on their own SEA Games preparation etc that make it even harder to organise the final if they are given late notices.

I really donot understand what is the delay in the decision from BWF. This is their inaugural yaer of Super Series and surely they must want to make the final a grand event. If they do, they must make the decision now so that the marketing and campaigning can take place to promote the event - we are talking 2 months away from now!

Badminton / Super Series finals: Lucrative end awaits shuttlers

THE primary focus of the national shuttlers is next year’s Beijing Olympics but they will be looking forward to concluding a good run this year by reigning supreme in the US$500,000 (RM1.68 million) Super Series Finals on Dec 18-23.
Although the qualification for the Super Series Finals will be finalised after last four legs — Denmark (Oct 23-28), French (Oct 30-Nov 4), China (Nov 20-25) and Hong Kong (Nov 27-Dec 02) — Malaysia is already assured of two entries in World No 2 men’s singles Lee Chong Wei (pic) and World No 1 men’s doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.

Chong Wei has so far won two Super Series events — the Indonesia and Japan Opens — while Kien Keat-Boon Heong were victorious in the Malaysia and Swiss Opens as well as the All England.

Chong Wei is also ranked second in the Super Series ranking while Kien Keat-Boon Heong are ranked third but have amassed sufficient points to become one of the top eight qualifiers in their respective events.

Chong Wei appears to be the sole Malaysian in the men’s singles as Hafiz Hashim and Wong Choong Hann are 14th and 16th respectively.
However, Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah are in striking distance of qualifying provided they do not slip up in the final four tournaments and maintain or improve on their sixth position.

Tan Bin Shen-Ong Soon Hock are also in the top eight as they are ranked No 8 but may lose out as competition rules allow only two players or pairs per country in each event.

This rule will also make life easy for Chong Wei as he only needs to worry about two players from China although there are four — top ranked Lin Dan, third ranked Chen Jin, fourth ranked Bao Chunlai and sixth ranked Chen Yu — in the top eight.

A Lin Dan-Chong Wei final is on the cards as their other rival Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia may not even qualify as he is in 12th position.

Although the breakdown of prize money and venue are yet to be announced by Badminton World Federation (BWF), the men’s singles champion is likely to pocket at least US$40,000 (RM134,600), the highest prize money offered in a badminton event.

However, Malaysia’s best chance of winning a title is in the men’s doubles where Kien Keat-Boon Heong are strong contenders while world champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia and China’s Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun are expected to provide the challenge.

Wong Mew Choo, ranked ninth with Yao Jie of the Netherlands, will qualify for the Super Series finals if the current standing in the women’s singles remains unchanged.

This is because China — who have Xie Xingfang, Zhang Ning, Zhu Lin and Lu Lan in the top eight — can only have two players in the Super Series finals.

The Super-Series FINAL is going to be on the 18th-23rd December, just right before Christmas. I will definitely be in SUB on the 16th December...whether or not I will drop by KL if the Final venue is there will still be a question mark as I have an impending family trip to Bali (yet again) on 19-23rd.

Relaying a match is different from covering it.
If the coverage is poor to start with, it ruins the whole experience. ;)

It's like football on television in South America and Europe.
Even dull matches look good because the TV crew know what they're doing.

Why is it taking so long to finalize the venue? I really hope is in KL. Don't worry about all this spicy and "heaty" food, we can always go with "Wong Low Kut" or "Liang Tea" to neutralize :D

R u sure the final SS will be held in Doha? Sigh.... spechless and don't understand why? If held in Rusia I can be understand. But, Doha? Qatar doesn't have any player, and I think no Qatar people will come to watch the matches. In the other hand, probably only them can held the big event in one month because they have a lot of money..... or probably BWF want to present badminton to Arabian people, especially to Qatar people who famous with moderate Arabian. Hope that will be good for badminton expansion....

Chong Wei stormed to a 21-11, 21-14 win over Chunlai in 35 minutes.
WORLD NO 2 Lee Chong Wei outplayed Bao Chunlai of China in the men's singles final of the French Open to win his third Super Series tournament in Paris yesterday.
Chong Wei, the second seed, stormed to a 21-11, 21-14 win in 35 minutes to avenge his semi-final loss to Chunlai in the Denmark Open last week.

After going through a troubled first half of the year, Chong Wei's resurgence started in the Indonesia Open where he defeated Chunlai for the title and captured the Japan Open in September.

Chong Wei's cause was made easier by Chunlai's tendency to choke at the last hurdle and the latter has now lost an astonishing 14 finals on the international stage.

Chong Wei can now focus in the Super Series Finals in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 18-23 where he will aim to deny the in-form World No 1 Lin Dan of China yet another major title.
However, Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah's vulnerability in a final was exposed by Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun of China who won 21-14, 21-19 in 38 minutes.

Tan Fook-Wan Wah simply lacked the courage to land their first Super Series title.

Tan Fook appeared nervous and there was no sting in his smashes while the steadier Wan Wah chose the wrong match to be off-form and three fault services by the latter described the Malaysians' fortunes in the match.

Tan Fook-Wan Wah went into the match having beaten the former world champions in their last two meetings but the Malaysians were undone by number of uncharacteristic errors by them.

This was the second time Tan Fook-Wan Wah were beaten by Haifeng-Cai Yun in a Super Series final. The China pair beat them in three games in the Singapore Open in May.

If the organiser are seeking to make a profit from gate collection, it has to be KL, or Jakarta. Who watch badminton game in Qatar? They don't even have any known badminton players for God sake. I wonder the ppl of Qatar knows about the game at all. Not to offend anyone, if any of them knows about the game, I wonder they care to go watch even the entrance is FREE. Only fanatics fans like Indonesian and Malaysian are nuts about badminton and willing to pay to watch.

mmm... as far as CHN is concerned, Badminton is not the NO. 1 sports. I think they get in for FREE, or rather a small token... hehehehe. At least you pay and get to watch, that is a privilege. Fanatics MAS fans in this forum are so nuts about baddy, that includes Yours Truly (i.e. me), would stay up till 4 am watching a Live Scoreboard showing the shuttle bouncing back and forth from player to player, with no live streaming videos...sad but true. Hasnt anyone heard of the huge expat populii in Doha. I can tell you first hand that there was no-seating available during the finals of the Badminton event at the Asian Games.

There enough Chinese, Indonesian, Philipino's even Malaysians who are part of the expat populii - why?? there are even some Japanese folks who i know of, in Doha. Look at the pic attached from the Badminton matches during the games last Dec...

The local populii yes will be vey minimal. The Qataris love their football and fast cars and bikes but from turnouts at the ATP event the SS finals would have been able to pull in the Asian and Western expat populii.

Pls also remember that this is a rich city and if SMP properly marketed the event , who knows??

I dont know where it will be, but I think it would be cool if there were no spectators but those who were invited(camera crews and die hard fans). And, if it were to be held on a little desert island barely big enough for a large, and extremely high, rock platform with a single court on it and a few huts where the players would stay. And it would be played during a typhoon, but only when the eye of the storm was directly above so that there was no wind. And the losers would be forced off the platform to fall to their bloody deaths by lions.

Most likely KLBA . The crowd wouldn't be as large as WC and Bukit Jalil's stadium will be a little "too large".

Are you sure it will be at the KLBA, it would be impossible to host such an important event at a small stadium. I would prefer they host it at the Putra stadium, c'mon how could u host a $ 500 , 000 event at a small stadium . In additional , putra stadium is more recognised by the tourist who are coming to catch the event.

I hope that it will be held in Malaysia. Preferably in Johore or KL. I hope that if Malaysia is selected to be the host, our players will able to adapt the high pressure on them as I do not want the incident in WBC to reoccur again. Actually they could perform well if they are able to manage their pressure and as Malaysian die-hard fan we play the vital role in motivate the players but not to insert more pressure to them. I hope that it will be held in Malaysia or in Singapore so it is much easy for me to catch the final series of SS.
