anyone here laugh when the rallies get like intense (i.e you block 5 drives or smashes in a row) then you start smiling and laughing etc or the rally goes really long

AND in the end, you end up losing the rally OR match because of laughter

this happen to anyone else?

ive seen many funny rallies in several professional games in youtube lol, but no one laughs except for the audience (like the intense drive moment between cai/fu vs candra/gunawan in All England 2007 Semifinal)

How do professional players like hold their laughter? (dumb question i guess)

EDIT: just a random thread, im random today

i think you are just a very humorous person. lol. i have a good sense of humor. but when it comes to sports, its inner aggression all day. =]. except when you play beginners.

I don't think pros dont really hold in there laughter because the laughter is only usually like the one you described in like playful games with nothing on the line. Whereas pros are one, kind of used to rallies that last more than a few seconds, in a different atmosphere

Had one of those yesterday - under intense attack, all five smashes returned within inches of the face, desperate hooks that clear the net, certain kills that was miraculously retrieved, in the end lost it because my partner smashed a weak net return into the net.

yeah, i laugh too. sometimes. ok, ok, most of the time. :D i think the pros dont laugh because first they are focused and second a lot is at stake. laughing takes the wind out of you. and these pros train to be competetive 100% all the time.

Well..i don't play badminton. But i do laugh when long rallies happened!
First i will get nervous then in the end i will laugh. Much to my dad's annoyance of course :D

I think the pros must stay focused. That's why they don't laugh. I think long rallies require more focus? The tense gets higher and you don't wanna make mistake.

Yeah heh, I laugh a bit. But not so much that I lose the rally because of it :). But long rallies are just so much fun I can't help but at least smile even in a serious game.

when playing for fun like social game yes, like long rallies, kinda fun and funny. yea, i do laugh, but if competitive matches like tournament , no way, i dont even smile when i play competition until the end of the match to shake hands with my opponent.

I tend to be expressive, so.... yep, I've been known to start to laughing during intense rallies. It is possible to challenge yourself and have fun at the same time. What's the point of recreational play if you don't have fun?

If I was playing in a tournament I'd keep a lid on it, though. Once I start laughing my concentration goes out the window!

laughter is the best medicine as the old saying goes.

i love a good humor after an intense rally. but i am not sure if i would want that happen all the time, and especially uncontrollably so. ;)

badminton is supposed to be fun afterall.

i laugh, but not in competition. Competition is fun to win, playing is fun all the time. kwun's right badminton is supposed to be fun :p

I do that when I play against my friend for fun, not during tournaments. I usually lose the rally though, but its quite funny how I could keep it going and going.

pros dont laugh because they are pros, basically. professionals in their field.
apart from the fact that during a REAL match you don't really play around, you try to stay serious and focused.
i used to laugh but not anymore these days.

maybe the laughter is used to distract your oppoenents. i think as rallies become more intense, both parties will only become more aggressive and try even harder

I start laughing during the games. Ask any of my partners about my laughing and they can tell you that it single handedly loses half the rallys XD It's just so hard to control myself, especially with all the friendly people you end up playing.

Laughter at the end of an intense rally is an euphoric release of emotion, the better the exchange the more intense it gets. When you get into one of those situations where you best an equal or superior opposition, you just have to let it out because you worked so hard to keep up. Those elusive moments are far in between regular games.

I don't mind laughter in courts because it's all fun. What I do mind are players who yell out whenever their opponents make mistakes, even mistakes that's not due to their placement:rolleyes:. They even do it in a regular drop-in game with nothing on the line. What kind of sportsmanship is that?

Now that I think of it, such laughters accompany just about all of the long, intense rallies that my doubles partner and I normally get into, regardless of whether we won the point or not for the very reason that our rallies are seldom long - our group players are fond of hitting the shuttle to every corner of the court, play drops, high clears etc, having fun. My partner and I on the other hand, go on the offensive and aggresive on every rally, making most of the rallies rather short - either because we hammer every shuttle an inch higher than the net or we hit it into the net or out.

i believe even pros laugh in their lighter moments. i agree there should be no goofing around during a tournament. but badminton should really be enjoyable. i am sad that you dont laugh anymore llpjlau. laughter should be in everybody's life, especially when doing something you love. :)

I was at the front, my partner at the back, I laughed when I watched him smashed 7 times and all got returned, and he made that funny noise "ooo... ooo... ooo... oooo.... " everytime he smashed, and so in the end he put it in the net coz he started laughing too when he saw me laughing... Then 4 curled-up bodies on the ground, our opponents couldn't resist it either...

We were laughing coz we were not playing a tournament, just games for fun. Pros also laugh when they play for leisure. But when we play in competition, we switch to a serious attitude so laughing becomes less during but instead more after the rally.

i mean i dont laugh during training/games. nevertheless, i still enjoy badminton as much as when i laughed. of course when i play a good rally with my opponents i still give my partner a smile or a chuckle.

If I'm playing someone I know - I'll start laughing a bit or jawing "Will you quite getting that damned shuttle!!!"

it also means I'm loose, and that's when I play my best.

Yes I do this all the time..but I can't help it ...

I think sometimes it annoys my opponents
and I tell my partner nice shot during the rallies even if the rally isn't over...

but not in tournament.... then its much to serious to laugh

i usually start laughing about eversything if i get tired and my concentration is entirely gone. like today. i was so tired in the last match, a men double. I even had to yawn while a rally :D so i had to laugh about me, yawning while playing drives. and afterwads i could not stop laughing because the competitor was looking so angry, h looked like he īs gonna kill me. so i was just laughing :D in such situation i also start laughing about my own jokes and misshits, especially if they bring a point.

my partner was as dizzy as i was. he was tired, no concentration, 80% mishits

I've not actually laughed during long rallies before, but I do smile in between, when either side can't seem to kill the shuttle. A few times I even fell(I don't think the word is 'dive' because it doesn't look like Lin Dan's :p) receiving the shuttle but am up again and running after the shuttle at the other end of the court, much to the amusement of the spectators. And me of course. :D

Sometimes my opponents tap directly to my racquet or at least around me, and after retrieving it many times I tend to start smiling and commenting at the same time. Cause my returns are so weak(high at net) but they can't seem to kill the shuttle cause they keep hitting right back to me! Yes, I talk and play quite often. As in, "Die shuttle die!!" and "Stop hitting like that lah!"

Indeed, long rallies are fun to play with. It's nicer among friends though, less pressure, more to laugh about. In tournaments... my old coach would have chewed me up nicely if I started laughing(unless I was winning of course haha). Currently my game has dropped so much I don't even want to think about tournaments. Hahaha!

Laughter is the best medicine! Works your stomach muscles(I think?), your body releases stress, less chance of committing suicide. :)

The only time i sort of laugh is during a really long mixed rally. Other than that i never show ANY emotion whatsoever on the court. Never look or move like i am angry nor confident. Its a sort of smooth careless casual demeanor I have. Dunno if thats good or bad

I cant help myself, It gets into a long rally with good shots being played and returned and i just start to laugh. The crap thing is that i lose concentration and power so my returns are usually weaker but i can still manage to win some points. I've never played in Comp, so hopefully it wont happen there.

ANY ADVICE ON HOW TO NOT LAUGH OR HOW TO CONTROL IT DURING A RALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any advice would be really helpful. :o

Yeah, I laugh during long rallies but I find that it's only during mixed doubles -- girls are more prone to it and it's rather infectious. When playing with guys the play is always more competitive and even with close friends guys usually try to overdo each other.
