Greetings members@ccc,

Here again, I have asked Jacky-C from JT Ultra to play a Return Match with us.

Perhaps, it should be held next month, August 2007, at our CCC@Waverley on a Sunday night... since many of our Section 1 Players are attending our Sunday Sessions.

Will smashed_1 take up our captaincy again ??? :):):)

Cheers... chris@ccc

Greetings,

Question is asked... "Can I play in this Friendly Match: CCC Vs JT Ultra in August 2007"?

ANSWER... If you meet these 2 conditions, you could be selected to play...

(1) You are a current Member@CCC, not just a Casual Visitor@CCC

(2) You are in our Section 1 Category, since this is skill level required for this match

BTW, for Members@CCC who are in our Section 2 Category, we are organising another Friendly Match... CCC Vs Danny Tan's Team.
For this match, to be held on Friday 27-July-2007, please refer to our thread located at:

Hi smashed_1,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, you must be busy... for again, you are missing from our CCC League Games tonight, Sunday 15-July-2007.

BTW, tonight, we are having a record participation of 14 players. :):):)

We are now asking for someone to volunteer the challenge.

Be prepared to answer some questions of how you went about organising our previous Friendly Matches. :):):)

Hi Mikester,

Welcome to our CCC Forum@Badminton Central :):):)

And thank you for volunteering to be captain of our CCC Team to play JT Ultra in August 2007.

I am glad that Jacky-C has contacted you regarding this Friendly Match... and we will now leave it to you and Jacky-C to decide on the Games Format of our Friendly Match, namely how many Singles and Doubles games are to be played. :):):)

Greetings,

Mikester asked me about members@ccc who could participate in Singles events in our Friendly Match with JT Ultra in August 2007.

I have told Mikester about our members@ccc(listed below) who love to play Singles.
(1) BK168
(2) Ketut
(3) Siva-S
(4) Tony-P

And then, about our members@ccc(listed below) who play Singles sometimes.
(1) andrewlyw
(2) kwongj

Of course, all others(not listed above) are those who mostly enjoy Doubles.

I hope I am correct. :):):)

And please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Chris,
I prefer Doubles..
like BF, I might need an ambulance if we were to play singles.. :o:p

Hi andrewlyw,

Thank you for your reply. :):):)

We will now wait for our other members@ccc to reply, namely;
(1) BK168
(2) Ketut
(3) kwongj
(4) Siva-S
(5) Tony-P

And to all participants,

If we could get 8 players from each club to play, and, if 4 from each club are wanting to play in the Singles events, then we have this widely known Games Format;
20 events altogether, consisting of 8 Singles and 12 Doubles events.

From each club,
4 players will play 2 Singles and 2 Doubles events each, while the other
4 players will play 4 Doubles events each.

I would suggest that we should follow the BWF new scoring system, with each event a game of 21 points, with a fight for a difference of 2 points to 30 should the players reach a score of 20:20.

But perhaps, Mikester and Jacky-C could come out with another different and better Games Format. :):):)

Hi Mikester,

However, good luck to all this coming Sunday. I am sure it'll be an exciting encounter all round. ;)

Hey Mikester, As you mentioned 4 players play 2 singles + 2 doubles and the other 4 will play 4 doubles, I can only see that the last 4 only play 2 doubles each. BK

Thank you for your insightful question BK168!

As stated earlier.

5+6 vs 5+6 x 2: Andrew N + Kevin vs Shu + Jack C
7+8 vs 7+8 x 2: Peter + Elton vs Travis + Jack W

5+6 vs 7+8 x 2: Andrew N + Kevin vs Travis + Jack W
7+8 vs 5+6 x 2: Peter + Elton vs Shu + Jack C

Each pairing will be playing each other twice. Hence 4 games each person.

Hi Mikester,

Your post needs editing. :):):)

Perhaps, rescheduling those Doubles Pairs playing each other twice could be a good idea.

Remembering that 2 events are being played simultaneously, the order of play could look like this;

Order of Play

(1) 3+4 vs 3+4: Siva + BK vs Eric vs Chris
(2) 7+8 vs 7+8: Peter + Elton vs Travis + Jack W

(3) 1+2 vs 1+2: Tony + Mikey vs Simon + Jacky
(4) 5+6 vs 5+6: Andrew N + Kevin vs Shu + Jack C

(5) 3+4 vs 1+2: Siva + BK vs Simon + Jacky
(6) 7+8 vs 5+6: Peter + Elton vs Shu + Jack C

(7) 1+2 vs 3+4: Tony + Mikey vs Eric + Chris
(8) 5+6 vs 7+8: Andrew N + Kevin vs Travis + Jack W

(9) 4 vs 4: BK vs Chris
(10) 3 vs 3: Siva vs Eric

(11) 2 vs 2: Mikey vs Jacky
(12) 1 vs 1: Tony vs Simon

(13) 7+8 vs 7+8: Peter + Elton vs Travis + Jack W
(14) 5+6 vs 5+6: Andrew N + Kevin vs Shu + Jack C

(15) 4 vs 3: BK vs Eric
(16) 3 vs 4: Siva vs Chris

(17) 2 vs 1: Mikey vs Simon
(18) 1 vs 2: Tony vs Jacky

(19) 7+8 vs 5+6: Peter + Elton vs Shu + Jack C
(20) 5+6 vs 7+8: Andrew N + Kevin vs Travis + Jack W

And we hope we could get a Friendly Score 10:10 at the end. :):):)

As usual, this is my JTUltra report

EVENT PLANNER
Dear Organizer Mikey:

When you were busy warming up, me + Chris were doing the match schedule for you. You owe me a drink, mate.

Yours sincerely
Ken "i am not the organizer!!" Hung

ARRIVING ON TIME
all players has arrived on time, no one has done a "ketut" this time (if u wanna know more please read the match vs danny tan).

SUPPORTERS GALORE
JTULtra had a huge following (the most in all 3 matches against them, correct me if i am wrong) including their players who had played us before. If only we could get all of our section 1 usual league players for last nite, that would be great.

Special thank you to dedicated supporter from last nite: Kim, me and a mystery person (elton, yanwei, what's the female friend who support you guys last nite)

YOU MUST BE FULL AFTERWARDS
Chris "dr badminton" has a conversation with me regarding the result of sunday. I said either 7-5 JTUltra OR even. Chris said since section 1 played amongst ourselves on sunday section 1 league, we would win. I still remember his face when he said that. Mate, i don't think you would have much for supper cos you would be eating your words.

COACHING
jason F jokingly said that chris should be giving us coaching tips over each match. Sure, if you wanna pay him $80 (which is how much he make over his 1 court coaching), go ahead.

SERIOUS
knowing that JTUltra have had competition experience, we would always know they are serious. But taping the matches for analysing later using a video cam? that's a bit much.

Oh, photo would be posted later. And I am definitely gonna need help with naming names in my group photo.

Mikester

Captain's report

As we ventured into the night enthusiastically hoping to get a few wins under our belt, it was wishful thinking in the end. JTUltra brought their cheersquad and a videocamera!! The scores did not do justice to the competitiveness of some of the matches which was quite close in the end.

On a positive, we did improve on our result from last time we played JTUltra but obviously our team has changed since then.

What I gather from this 'friendly' is that if we want to put in more fight next time we need our team to start training. I know this will be difficult considering the social aspect of our club but like they say you don't get good overnight. It didn't help that some of our double's partnerships only happened during the friendly match, eg Tony and myself, Siva and Peter.

I would like to thank Chris for his help for organising the friendly, Jacky C for organising his JTUltra team, and all our players for participating in the friendly. A big thank you for Ken for his help on the night! I owe you a drink buddy!

I will post results later tonight.

knowing that JTUltra have had competition experience, we would always know they are serious. But taping the matches for analysing later using a video cam? that's a bit much.

Hi hkhung,

SUPPORTERS GALORE:

I think you are incorrect. :):):)

For that match on Sunday 5-Aug-2007, we had our largest CCC Cheering Squad to date.

Perhaps, because you are now playing only just once a week, you might not know many of our new CCC players.

On that night, we have the following CCC supporters:
1. hkhung
2. Kim
3. ginga_law
4. KC-Chan
5. Cuong
6. Bryan-C
7. Celina-T
8. smashed_1
9. yc_11
10. kwongj
11. andrewlyw
12. yschin
13. Ketut
14. villeneuve
15. Lakshman-S
16. Krishna-S
17. Prakash-R
18. chris@ccc

And we could hear how loudly KC-Chan, Cuong, etc... cheering loudly for our CCC Team. :):):)

SERIOUS:

Here, I agree with you. :):):)

Our CCC Badminton, at the present moment, is still a club for enjoying playing Badminton, not as competitive as JT Ultra as yet.

But you have to remember... that CCC believes that 'Participation is the key to the enjoyment of Badminton, not the winning or losing'.

How the future holds for CCC will depend on how our members are going to drive it. :):):)

We could end up in the future as just a Social Club, or we could end up as a very Competitive Club.

We should/could say..."What will be, will be". :):):)

To me, it doesn't matter...

As long as we are enjoying our Badminton, CCC is meeting its objective.

Cheers... chris@ccc

Members are only going to drive the club to a certain point so I disagree totally.

After previously running a club before, it starts at the top level and it filters down. I would say a club is like any organisation, it's a living breathing organism. It changes, quickly or slowly depending on the constituents and moulds itself to the executive people or the higher ranking officials.

At this stage I see CCC more of a social badminton club, even the League is aimed at the social level. Change is something the members aren't keen to embrace very easily. When you grow out of those shoes and the club doesn't cater for your needs, you move on.

Chris, I like your philosophy about participation but when you compete whether it is a friendly match or competitive match, it is all about winning. Nobody wants to be a 'loser' because it is demoralising, especially if it happens regularly. Obviously winning isn't everything and learning and improving is key but often this aspect is overlooked.

Lastly, I disagree with the phrase 'what will be, will be'. Destiny is what you do about it yourself. For example, if you are no good at badminton and you want to IMPROVE, you need a plan to improve. The first step is recognising your weakness. The second step is identifying what is wrong: is it fitness? Footwork? Skillwork? Match practice? Mental strength? The third step is making a plan to improve those weaknesses with external aids such as coaches if necessary.

I'm someone from the Y-Gen era so I don't apologise for ruffling feathers with my strong thoughts.

Greetings,

(1) To Mikester,
A BIG THANK YOU to you for doing the Captaincy for this event.
And we enjoyed the evening of matches.

(2) To DoublesPlease,
A BIG THANK YOU to you for buying drinks for our visitors for this event.
It's something that we have forgotten again. Last time when we invited JT Ultra to CCC, it was BadFever who remembered to buy a hamper of food for our visitors.

(3) To hkhung,
A BIG THANK YOU to you for taking the photos for this event.
We are looking forward to see you posting some of the photos.

(4) To our CCC supporters,
A BIG THANK YOU to you for coming to cheer and to support us. You guys did the loudest cheering that CCC never had before. :):):)

(5) To all participating players,
A BIG THANK YOU to you for making our Friendly Match a great success. Whether we won or whether we lost, I think we all had fun and enjoyed the night. Thank you for participating.

(6) To JT Ultra,
A BIG THANK YOU to you for being so friendly. And we will take up your invitation to do it again... to have another Friendly Match, later on in the year, at your place.

Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi Mikester,

When we started CCC, I thought I would/could pay back to badminton what I have taken from it. :):):)

So, I thought about my experience as a qualified coach, as a skilled player, as an official grader, as a social creature loving parties, wine-and-dine, other social functions, etc..., as a club organiser of structured Badminton events, and as one who do discourages the segregation of players.

It was hoped that all these qualities could be used by/for CCC.

But what we found is that not every member@ccc wants what is there that CCC can offer.

Some never wanting to improve or train. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC has a qualified coach.

Some never wanting to play competition. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC has a skilled player and an official grader to guide them through competition.

Some never wanting to socialise. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC has supper after each session, different social functions/gatherings for different occasions, etc...

Some never wanting to participate in organised and structured events. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC takes time to organise Handicapped Games, League Games, Friendly Matches, etc...

Some never wanting to be immodest. For them, they don't know how lucky that CCC makes sure that segregation of players is not allowed.

Cheers... chris@ccc

That's what we should be telling the CCC members. Services/resources that are available and should be utilised.

If we can find out what their needs are then maybe CCC can help them to address those needs.

Wow, Chris, your above sentence sounded so fanatic. :p :p Don't you love being a human being. In this case, we all see badminton, just one thing of our life, so differently. :D

You happened to segregate.....err.....better word, categorise CCC attendants in a very well typed out manner. I think I remembered you saying that you used to be a qualified survey taker, right? I thought I might use your post as a survey then:

A) Some never wanting to improve or train.
My vote: 100% in this category. Why, I am too blardy old already. Are you trying to kill me.

B) Some never wanting to play competition.
My vote: 50% in this category. I think I will play if majority participants are about my age. I don't like my opponents calling me 'uncle' or the parents calling me 'bully'.

C) Some never wanting to socialise <after badminton>.
My vote: 100% in this category. When it comes to CCC, I just want to play badminton. I have other friends for other social activities. Is it so hard to understand that.

D) Some never wanting to participate in organised and structured events.
My vote: 50%/50% in this category. Living in a democracy country, I think I have to right to choose to participate in any events that suit me. I hope none of the CCC represent Communism.

E) Some never wanting to be immodest.
My vote: Hey Chris, in case you decided to discuss this matter on one of the CCC session, do you mind telling me in advance so that I can drive myself to watch The Simpsons movie. I do not want to have anything to do with this discussion.

My opinion for this (Thanks BadFever, for the dot points):
A) Some never wanting to improve or train.
Training is one thing, finding time is another.
I'd like to train, however, time is of issue. I am, unfortunately, time-poor. Badminton is but one of my pursuits ;).

B) Some never wanting to play competition.
Am in for some competitive spirit, just not singles. Waiting for partner to decide for any further competitions to take part in. :D

C) Some never wanting to socialise <after badminton>.
To be fair, I live a little too far in the other direction to enjoy supper.
I know there are definitely others who live further, but I also enjoy my earlier sleep on Sunday night :D

D) Some never wanting to participate in organised and structured events.
There are things I have time for. When I do, I'll put my hand up :D

E) Some never wanting to be immodest.
Being time poor, I am only participating in League games as it's the only one I have time for.

Hi BadFever,

Hehehe... CCC could stand for Combined Communists Committee. :D:D:D

However... CCC could also stand for Center for Community Capitalism. :):):)

But... I still prefer CCC to stand for Calm Cool and Collected. ;););)

yeah chris but i mean the ones who came only to watch - "dedicated supporter", not the ones who came to play social.

And by that i mean kym, me + ruby (elton's friend - to whom i met at balwyn library this afternoon).

chris, i would have loved to take a picture of your frowning forehead when i told you the result half way.

So many people has written their "essay", it makes my match report seems short. i would find time to chip in my opinion later on.

Hi Hagane,

That is why I am only a chairperson, one who presides at the meeting of our CCC, allowing our members to decide on how to drive it.

But we have to remember this... CCC insists that "We should look after all players, regardless of their skill levels" .

And that CCC believes that 'Participation is the key to the enjoyment of Badminton, not the winning or losing'.

Hehehe... I always say to myself "Politics and Sports should never mix", but I am finding myself sounding like a politician. :):):)

Some (ok, most) of my thoughts are randomless and senseless (and grammarless) but at least i am happy that this JTUltra match has got people start talking about CCC's vision in discussion thread.

Chris, as the chairperson you would know that it's not easy to get the vision across by words but only actions.

If anything, i would rather someone speak their mind and ruffle my feather instead of keeping quiet.
