sept 4th to 9th - hyderabad
Krisna 08-20-2007, 11:06 AM Anup Sridhar's profile in India should be better now that he had defeated Taufik and Hafiz to reach the World Championship's quarterfinals. I hope Indian badminton shall rise quickly. We need the whole world to pay attention more to badminton.... More prize money quickly, otherwise... few talented athletes will want to play badminton for a living...

43 Dead In Bomb Blasts
HYDERABAD, India (Reuters) - ...
Bombs packed with metal pellets killed 43 people on Saturday (25 Aug) at a packed street food-stall and an amusement park.
Police have found another dozen bombs -- fitted with timers and placed in plastic bags -- at bus stops, cinema halls, road junctions and pedestrian bridges across Hyderabad, capital of Andhra Pradesh state, after Saturday night's blasts in the city.
Nearly 80 people, including women and children, were wounded by the three blasts that went off within the space of a few minutes. Some of the wounded were in critical condition.
The police said each of the bombs also contained ammonium and were rigged with alarm clocks.
Eleven people died in two blasts at the Lumbini amusement park during a laser light show, while 32 died in the explosion at the street food stall in the heart of the city's commercial district, police said.
The blasts in Hyderabad, one of India's biggest cities, are the latest in a series of militant attacks in large urban centers in the past two years, including New Delhi and the commercial hub of Mumbai.

Oldhand 08-26-2007, 11:22 PM Oh my...just when I thought Hyderabad is a safe city
Yes, Hyderabad is a safe city.
It's no more unsafe than any other large city occasionally targeted by deranged and fanatic people. :)
I'd agree that Hyderabad is unsafe if you'd agree that New York, London, Tokyo and Madrid are unsafe (they too have been attacked, haven't they?).
The crazies are everywhere... but that doesn't mean we must live in constant dread.
All the best to the organizers of the Indian Open. :)
Krisna 08-27-2007, 06:17 AM Let's just say that: starting yesterday, Hyderabad is in the same category as New York, London, Tokyo, Madrid, and Jakarta. Any city worty of organized terrorist attacks cannot be categorized as a safe city...
