Dan LIN [1] - Pengyu DU. Poor Du. Even if he wants to win, he has to follow team orders. Wouldn't be surprised if Du came up with a mystery injury.

Peter GADE CHRISTENSEN [7] - Taufik HIDAYAT. Both were slow out of the gate in the 1st round. The Battle Royale will go to.... TH.
Muhd Hafiz B HASHIM - Boonsak PONSANA. Could be very good or very bad for Hafiz. Based solely on form, Boonsak will wipe the floor with Hafiz. But since our Yoyo friend Hafiz is so unpredictable, I expect a closer encounter than many might have tought.
Yi LU - Przemyslaw WACHA. Bravo to Wacha for taking down Chen Yu. I reckon the youthful Lu will pose a different set of problems for the Pole and eventually prevail. Timberrrrr!
Chong Wei LEE [3] - Sairul Amar AYOB. An all-MAS battle will go the way of LCW but Sairul is no mug.
Simon SANTOSO - Kenneth JONASSEN [8]. Don't let the seedings fool you. I like the way Simon is playing and he will eliminate Kenneth.
Sony DWI KUNCORO - Choong Hann WONG. Because WCH did not have to go through qualifying, he's much fresher, as evidenced by his shock win over Chen Hong. He should have enough to hold off Sony.

WS observations:
Chen WANG [5] - Yihan WANG. An upset waiting to happen. The jewel of the CHN juniors is more than capable of holding her own, especially if she can extend it to 3 games.
Juliane SCHENK - Xingfang XIE [2]. Should be a practice match for XXF.
Ning ZHANG [1] - Sara PERSSON. Should be a practice match for ZN.
Hongyan PI [6] - Maria Kristin YULIANTI. Two cute girls do battle but it's the end of the road for INA version.
Huaiwen XU [4] - Li HAN. Everytime I write off Xu, she delivers the goods. There's no reason to demonstrate otherwise in this match.
Shao-Chieh CHENG - Jie YAO [7]. If CSC picks it up early, it'll be quite an even match. YJ might be tired from her struggle with Petya last night.
Pui Yin YIP - Eriko HIROSE. Tomboy v cute girl. I like the form being displayed by Yippy of late. Very consistent and reliable so I'll run with my gut feeling.
Lin WANG - Lan LU [8]. Tough one to call. Both are inconsistent but LL has a bit more experience. She should edge the encounter. Goodbye Wang Lin (sob sob :()

MD observations:
Haifeng FU [1]/Yun CAI - Mathias BOE/Carsten MOGENSEN. The juggernaut that is FHF/CY rolls on convincingly.

These are all close games that could go either way. I'm really worried about the play of Wang Lin, as I have outlined in another thread; I just don't have the confidence in her to overcome Lu Lan. Yippy v Eriko–I know you're quite smitten with Eriko and nothing will change your mind :D:D.

Home court advantage may well determine the Zakry/Fairuz match while Wang Yihan has nothing to lose, so she'll probably be loose.

Then there's ZJ and ZB, a constant source of laughs for me. Why? take a look at them–they always have that dopey look and don't quite have the typical badminton body shape. Let's say they're big boys. But, they're experienced and have the home support. If the Danes do win, shake hands and get the hell out before the hungry CHN duo have them for dinner :D

Considering LCW's current form (or perceived current form), I would rather see LCW-LD, LCW-PG or LCW-TH to see if he's up to expectation. Beating LD in the final on LD's home soil would be the best indication of better thing to come - i.e., potential world no.1 and WC and OG champ.

It does not matter whether LD gets two or three consecutive WO from his fellows to reach the SF....he has been losing his magic power....The more often Chinese players give a WO to LD or BAO (depending on who is ready in the last minute to face the Bionic Taufik), the clearer the China team is weakening...:D

Anytime LCW play LD, in 06MO and 06AE, the paying fans get their $$$ back and more, the game is exciting and never a dull moment to spare, a real treat...especially now that LCW is hot and LD is top ranked...I agree with you on your wish match.

LCW is super fit and has the stamina to last 3 consecutive gruelling matches, so if meeting LD in sf is gonna be gruelling, it's likely to be the first one.

No, you missed my point. My point was that under normal circumstances, Chinese players could exploit their home ground advantage (including entering a huge number of players) to strengthen their world rankings. This thing did happen in the last 2 years (especially in China Masters),

China Masters (inaugurated in 2005)
- In 2005, China swept all 5 titles.
- In 2006, China swept all but MD titles.
- The only international title that Guo/Xie, a 2nd-rated MD pair in the international level, has won to date is China Master'05.

China Open
- All-China finals in MS, WS & WD in 2004, 2005 & 2006 (WS and WD's dominations are understandable, but the MS result is quite an achievement because PG and even LCW used to rank higer than BCL, CJ, CY and even CH before 2006, plus the dangerous TH and the spoilers KJ and Korean players)
- In 2006, China swept all but MD titles (CY/FHF was the runner-up)

herefore, I'm kind of happy to see that the R1 results has indicated that China is potentially losing such an advantage (but who knows they will still be the nation who has the last laugh on the finals day).
