I dont know if it is possible but i would LOVE to get taufik vs gade for my badminton archieve:) madbad 07-11-2007, 02:57 PM MS observations: Dan LIN [1] - Pengyu DU. Poor Du. Even if he wants to win, he has to follow team orders. Wouldn't be surprised if Du came up with a mystery injury. Chunlai BAO [6] - Kay Bin YEOH. BCL better wake up otherwise a competent player like Yeoh can take him. Peter GADE CHRISTENSEN [7] - Taufik HIDAYAT. Both were slow out of the gate in the 1st round. The Battle Royale will go to.... TH. Muhd Hafiz B HASHIM - Boonsak PONSANA. Could be very good or very bad for Hafiz. Based solely on form, Boonsak will wipe the floor with Hafiz. But since our Yoyo friend Hafiz is so unpredictable, I expect a closer encounter than many might have tought. Yi LU - Przemyslaw WACHA. Bravo to Wacha for taking down Chen Yu. I reckon the youthful Lu will pose a different set of problems for the Pole and eventually prevail. Timberrrrr! Chong Wei LEE [3] - Sairul Amar AYOB. An all-MAS battle will go the way of LCW but Sairul is no mug. Simon SANTOSO - Kenneth JONASSEN [8]. Don't let the seedings fool you. I like the way Simon is playing and he will eliminate Kenneth. Sony DWI KUNCORO - Choong Hann WONG. Because WCH did not have to go through qualifying, he's much fresher, as evidenced by his shock win over Chen Hong. He should have enough to hold off Sony. If there are any CHENs remaining, be afraid, be very afraid. I reckon anyone named CHEN that wields a badminton racket is at City Hall lining up for a name change. :D:D madbad 07-11-2007, 03:06 PM WS observations: Chen WANG [5] - Yihan WANG. An upset waiting to happen. The jewel of the CHN juniors is more than capable of holding her own, especially if she can extend it to 3 games. Juliane SCHENK - Xingfang XIE [2]. Should be a practice match for XXF. Ning ZHANG [1] - Sara PERSSON. Should be a practice match for ZN. Hongyan PI [6] - Maria Kristin YULIANTI. Two cute girls do battle but it's the end of the road for INA version. Huaiwen XU [4] - Li HAN. Everytime I write off Xu, she delivers the goods. There's no reason to demonstrate otherwise in this match. Shao-Chieh CHENG - Jie YAO [7]. If CSC picks it up early, it'll be quite an even match. YJ might be tired from her struggle with Petya last night. Pui Yin YIP - Eriko HIROSE. Tomboy v cute girl. I like the form being displayed by Yippy of late. Very consistent and reliable so I'll run with my gut feeling. Lin WANG - Lan LU [8]. Tough one to call. Both are inconsistent but LL has a bit more experience. She should edge the encounter. Goodbye Wang Lin (sob sob :() madbad 07-11-2007, 03:20 PM MD observations: Haifeng FU [1]/Yun CAI - Mathias BOE/Carsten MOGENSEN. The juggernaut that is FHF/CY rolls on convincingly. Albertus Susanto NJOTO [5]/Yohan Hadikusumo WIRATAMA - Zhongbo XIE/Zhendong GUO. The HK pair is really seeded 5?. Not anymore after this match. Shuichi SAKAMOTO [5]/Shintaro IKEDA - Bin Shen TAN/Soon Hock ONG. The MAS boys are on a mission to redeem themselves after the Thai open debacle. Ye SHEN/Hanbin HE - Mohd Zakry ABDUL LATIF [6]/Mohd Fairuzizuan MOHD TAZARI. I think a mild upset could be on the cards. He and Shen on home turf could upend the MAS pair Luluk HADIYANTO/Alvent Yulianto CHANDRA - Tan Fook CHOONG [3]/Wan Wah LEE. The question is who is more useless. Who will commit more errors. Alvent and Luluk should have been put out to pasture a long time ago. Hendra A GUNAWAN /Joko RIYADI - Tadashi OHTSUKA/Keita MASUDA. The young INA pair should edge this one. Choon Eng CHEW/Chieng Hun HONG - Markis KIDO [2]/Hendra SETIAWAN. Markis and Hendra should handle the MAS duo with ease. Jun ZHANG/Bo ZHENG - Simon MOLLYHUS/Anders KRISTIANSEN. The chunky CHN twosome will either physically beat the Danes or failing that, eat them :D. samuel882 07-11-2007, 06:02 PM Today is my bad day, some of my idols failed to advance( Chen Hong,Chen Jin,Chen Yu,Zhu Lin,Qin/Pan).I hope there will be a shiny day for me tomorrow.LD,BCL,Lu Y,ZN,XXF,Lu L,Yihan, han li,Fu/cai,Xie/guo,Zhang/Zheng,Shen/He,Zhang/Wei,Du/Yu,Yang/Zhao,Gao/Huang,Zhang/Zhao,Zheng/Gao,He/Yu,and Xie/Zhang make it to the next round...Pls GOD..... I'm really worried about the play of Wang Lin, as I have outlined in another thread; I just don't have the confidence in her to overcome Lu Lan. Yippy v Eriko–I know you're quite smitten with Eriko and nothing will change your mind :D:D. Home court advantage may well determine the Zakry/Fairuz match while Wang Yihan has nothing to lose, so she'll probably be loose. Then there's ZJ and ZB, a constant source of laughs for me. Why? take a look at them–they always have that dopey look and don't quite have the typical badminton body shape. Let's say they're big boys. But, they're experienced and have the home support. If the Danes do win, shake hands and get the hell out before the hungry CHN duo have them for dinner :D Linus 07-11-2007, 08:04 PM Did a count on day 1 results, if I excluded all the matches between 2 Chinese players/pairs, there are altogether 10 Chinese players/pairs were eliminated by foreign players/teams . The counts are MS (4 loses), WS (2 loses), MD (1), WD (1) and XD (2). I think many have expressed their shocks on the number of high profile MS casulties, but that also show how unpredictable in MS today. Nonetheless, there are still 20 Chinese players/pairs left in the seond round, will see how many will be left in 3rd round. I am doing the body count! :p markchan 07-11-2007, 08:23 PM I think we may just get to watch PG and TH match starting at 2.40pm on CCTV 5. It is scheduled to be played on court 2 (TV court) and then maybe also FHF/CY vs Mathias/Carsten. Under normal circumstances, the homeground advantage could only strengthen Chinese players' world rankings, which will result in greater unbalance in the badminton world. That why deep down in my heart, I want China to "suffer" in their own SS events in order to motivate other countries' players to fight well. bananaboy 07-11-2007, 08:39 PM MS observations: Dan LIN [1] - Pengyu DU. Considering LCW's current form (or perceived current form), I would rather see LCW-LD, LCW-PG or LCW-TH to see if he's up to expectation. Beating LD in the final on LD's home soil would be the best indication of better thing to come - i.e., potential world no.1 and WC and OG champ. indra 07-11-2007, 09:14 PM Considering LCW's current form (or perceived current form), I would rather see LCW-LD, LCW-PG or LCW-TH to see if he's up to expectation. I still think LD is in the best position to go to the finals from first half, because he will sail into SF without much challenge (expect BCL to injure his thumb/hand/leg/thigh/di** :) and give LD walk over), where as TH and PG will have two gruelling matches beforehand and LCW will have one, so when they make it to SF they will be exhausted.... indra 07-11-2007, 10:26 PM All you MAS fans can very quick to credit LCW, and discredit other players. It does not matter whether LD gets two or three consecutive WO from his fellows to reach the SF....he has been losing his magic power....The more often Chinese players give a WO to LD or BAO (depending on who is ready in the last minute to face the Bionic Taufik), the clearer the China team is weakening...:D Inky2000 07-11-2007, 10:30 PM All you MAS fans can very quick to credit LCW, and discredit other players. I don't know how the rest see this but from my point of view, LCW does show that he has been the most in-form MS player since IO'07 (or as most of us perceived). So, when I mentioned "I would rather see LCW-LD, LCW-PG or LCW-TH (in final) ..." is not so much a prediction, but a wish - to see if he could keep up his form and prove that his recent good performances were not ... like what some China fans claimed, "He won IO because LD withdrew!" In other words, I personally find it more exciting to see LCW playing against other top players in this tournament than any other combination of players playing against each other. So, since you have argued that LD still has the best shot, then I would like to argue that the most exciting match should be between LCW and LD instead of any other combination. pjswift 07-11-2007, 10:41 PM Yes, Chinese players have been dominating most of the tournaments held in the world and yet BWF allows China to host 2 SS per year. Anytime LCW play LD, in 06MO and 06AE, the paying fans get their $$$ back and more, the game is exciting and never a dull moment to spare, a real treat...especially now that LCW is hot and LD is top ranked...I agree with you on your wish match. pjswift 07-11-2007, 10:49 PM All you MAS fans can very quick to credit LCW, and discredit other players. LCW is super fit and has the stamina to last 3 consecutive gruelling matches, so if meeting LD in sf is gonna be gruelling, it's likely to be the first one. So it's no sure thing.Wouldn't consider it a factor nowadays. No, you missed my point. My point was that under normal circumstances, Chinese players could exploit their home ground advantage (including entering a huge number of players) to strengthen their world rankings. This thing did happen in the last 2 years (especially in China Masters), China Masters (inaugurated in 2005) - In 2005, China swept all 5 titles. - In 2006, China swept all but MD titles. - The only international title that Guo/Xie, a 2nd-rated MD pair in the international level, has won to date is China Master'05. China Open - All-China finals in MS, WS & WD in 2004, 2005 & 2006 (WS and WD's dominations are understandable, but the MS result is quite an achievement because PG and even LCW used to rank higer than BCL, CJ, CY and even CH before 2006, plus the dangerous TH and the spoilers KJ and Korean players) - In 2006, China swept all but MD titles (CY/FHF was the runner-up) herefore, I'm kind of happy to see that the R1 results has indicated that China is potentially losing such an advantage (but who knows they will still be the nation who has the last laugh on the finals day). pramilainc 07-11-2007, 11:22 PM So many pick PG over TH, maybe i should change my PAW... taufik-ist 07-11-2007, 11:27 PM hhmm i'm glad taufik is being understimed :) madbad 07-11-2007, 11:36 PM So many pick PG over TH, maybe i should change my PAW... Loh 07-12-2007, 02:42 AM ugh... i prefer Thai massage in this case.... :D but plus teh Tarik!! :D Very relaxing lah, Thai massage. Boonsak must have it before and after. But after the first massage, drink tom yam soup, very very fiery then. Poor HF, after his nasi 'lembek', he also needs a Thai massage to strengthen his legs, otherwise he may dance the a-go-go in addition to the yo-yo. Then only after that his teh tarik may help. :D madbad 07-12-2007, 02:43 AM Hafiz is packaged, bundled and air mailed back to MAS. BP wins in a cakewalk.
