okay i was having a match against this other guy. and his teammates were encouraging him and cheering him a bit. this lady coach came over and watch the game. i served high and he tried to do a big smash.
he swung really fast and hard i think and he completely missed the shuttle. my serve landed in.
i was in my mind "wtf, nice try but no you dont try to smash me so hard just because people are watching"
btw, he's on the other team. i'm on my team. different colleges.

one tournament i played in, i was playing this guy. he made four air shots i.e. he missed completely in a row, twice off a serve. he put so much effort into it, but just always missed. the guy umpiring couldn't stop laughing.

when i had to umpire another game, it was mixed. and one guy from my team had this nice forehand serve, a flick, which was really low. won 8 points in a row off it. so, on the 9th serve, he flicks it really low again to the girl. the guy is standing in the other square and cries really loudly "OUT!" it hits him square on the groin. i couldn't breath for the next 10 minutes.

I went down low to lift a good drop shot by my opponents, but in making the shot I let go of my racket. The rearcourt player, as I knew he would, smashed straight at me... so I kicked the shuttle back for a perfect tight net shot. The coach burst out laughing and commiserated that he couldn't give me the point.:o

There's one guy with whom I play singles who has a killer backhand... except for the time he let go of his racket on a baseline clear. It sailed about 20 feet into the air and hit a basketball backboard overlooking the court. I collapsed and couldn't finish the match.:D

Last monday, My father who is 61 moved to execute a power clear and the shuttle got caught between his strings!!, like the way it gets caught in the squares of the net. I've never seen that before and neither the opponents.

This is only probable with his Prince racquet because it is one of those diamond shaped head ones with the strings quite far apart (there are fewer lattitude strings than conventional racquets) and his tension is about 17lbs.

It's a strange day to witness someone trying to dislodge a shuttle from their racquet and then play on.

when an opponent is going to smash but instead of hitting at the sweet spot, he hits it with the frame and the bird becomes a drop....

Witness a drive shot, in which it hit the tape and thinking it was about to roll over, dangles on top of the tape hanging by the edge of the cork.

I was playing doubles in my rec club and lifted the birdie over one of my opponents who was out of position. As the birdie went over his head to my utter amazement and disbelief... he called it out. He didn't turn his head or even attempt to look where it was going to land. Of course it plunks down at the back of the doubles service area... and he insisted it was out until his partner said it was in and pointed to where the birdie landed.

I was completely dumbfounded to say the least... there is cheating when a shot is close... then there is cheating when you are watching the birdie... but to cheat when it is so obvious you have no clue where the birdie is.

1. I did a spinning net shot and the bird got caught on the white tape but the other guy thought it went over and dove at the net like a fish

2. In a doubles match I was playing back at the moment and the opponent pushed the shuttle to the back corner. I rushed the process by taking off like a jump smash before I got to the shot. Everything was going well until my swing was almost finished when my partner's head popped up where I was going to strike the bird...

3. After a big rim job, the cork fell off the bird and hit one of the lights hanging off the ceiling. Simultaneously, the power went out throughout the building. I was like WTF?!? Did i do that?

Oh I remembered a funny shot I had. My opponent dropped the bird and lift hard out of desperation and it hit top of net and bounced slightly upward. At this point I was so sure that it was a point lost and was starting to get disappointed in my play. The net snapped back clipped the head of the bird causing it to tumble over the net.... and then it got stuck in the bottom of the net on my opponent's side.

After losing a rally, I was going to send the shuttle over to my happy smiling opponents, instead my racket slipped from my hands and landed over at their service line while I was still holding shuttle in my left hand :o.

OK, this has got to be unique:

I was in a MD match recently and one of my opponents went for a smash. His racket disintegrated: he was left holding the handle, and everything from there upwards flew 50 feet across the hall and smashed into a concrete wall near the entrance, narrowly missing his girlfriend.

I've seen some racket destructions in my time, but nothing like this:D.

i was watching my junior's match against a tough opponent in Singapore Badminton Assiociation.
it was a really tough fight and in one rally, my junior was forced to lift the shuttle but alas, the shuttle hit the lights and fell onto the opposite service line!

the umpire was a newbie and didnt see that, and so he asked the linesman whether its in or out. out of confusion, the linesman (a singapore sports school player) said in and the point was awarded to my junior :D

i hope this one rattles you guys!

playing doubles. i think the other side was fooling around and they were in the mood of hitting the shuttle with the handle. (okay, w/e)

so i serve. i did somewhat of a drive serve (probably illegal) and it didn't go into the right court....so in my mind i was like "damn". but THEN the guy on the other side proceeded to hit the shuttle with his HANDLE and it hit the net. his partner, needless to say, couldn't look at him after that.

I decapitated a feather shuttle...I jumped up for a midcourt smash (well, 'hopped up' is what my coach would say ;)) and I really hit it down (and fast)...
but it felt so weird, I look down: All 16 feather where still joint together and hit the floor (they had some speed as well) but the cork had dissapeared :o

I've seen it happen with plastics, but feathers....

my friend was warming up for a game. played a netshot, and his partner lifted it to the back. he runs back to get it, back facing towards the net, and hits the shuttle between his legs, with decent pace. and the shuttle flew and hit smack bang on the umpire's head, who had been sitting there waiting for the warmups to finish.

i forget what shot we were defending, but I saw the opponent come to net and thought he was going to do a net shot.

So i moved forward, but the guy did a lift, so i moved back as fast as i could to the back court, stop my backward momentum, and do a clear. but for wutever reason, i couldn't stop backward momentum enough and tripped myself and lost a shoe. lol

Here's another 'wtf' moment, which happened just last night.
I was practising with my friend, and he did a disceptive shot ( Peter Gade's so called "Trade Mark-shot" ) at me.

Here's Peter Gade doing it to Shoji Sato from Japan:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0X-sdwgXz4
I lunged forward anticipating a netdrop, then I suddenly realised that the shuttle was far behind me, making me do a back-hand clear which I'm not really good at.
He did that to me about 5 times, and everybody was laughing, including myself. Then as I was anticipating the same shot again, I went back and then he did a netdrop and I tripped over. Very embarassing!! :S

Not sure if this is really a WTF moment...

I was playing in a tournament, in a white gym, with white ceilings, white walls, white floors, and pale yellow lines. And we played with feather birds, which are obviously white. As we were playing mixed, I was at the back, and my partner played a net shot that forced them to lift. Unfortunately I lost sight of the bird. As I am spinning around the court, and eventually facing backward, I yelled out "WHERE IS IT...", really loudly - it was semis or quarters...

My partner then yelled "its out"

Quite embarrassing from my point of view.

my opponent hit a high drop, which I was ready for smash at his face. Which it misses his face, landed on his chest which bounced back over net as a net drop shot. 1.) Me and my partner were playing a mixed match. The weather outside that night was very stormy, and the lights were ocassionally going out at home, but for some reason I thought that it wouldn't happen at the gym. Lots of tension was being built up during this one rally. My partner was getting all the shots and smashing like crazy and I felt pretty bad because he was doing most of the work. So I decided that I would try ending the rally in one back hand smash. When I get the perfect oppurtunity, I turned around and the second before I smashed, the lights went out (how convinient). We heard a huge wack, and I had the feeling that I had hit something other than the shuttle. The lights went back on and my partner had a red mark right under his left eye. Needless to say, I ended the rally.

2.) This was during a friendly single's game. We were near the end of the match and I hit the shuttle, when I realised that the skirt had flew off (pesky plastic >_<) the cork went flying at a window near the back of the gym and the person standing behind it was pretty shaken. (perhaps he'd forgotten that there was a window, because he covered his head.)

There were some occasions when my partner tries to smash and the bird hits my back head directly! :D My partner is notorious for his powerful smash and when I get attacked it really hurts!!
