Nguyen Tien Minh is one of those who can upset the top players and I think it is not that surprising.
Remember he already did it at the asian games where he had a good time especially beating Lee Hyun Il

Does Taufik not feel the urge to play and win anymore, since he's won basically every tournament there is now he's a family guy, he doesn't have the desire to win as much as before?

you observe it right. TH does not have enough emotional challenge to win. the motivation is not as much. the 2008 olympics is what keeps him going now, then, he will call it quits.:(

Taufik clearly is not playing his best badminton in Philippines. He is probably trying to use this loss to confuse his "real" opposition ahead of the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur; he wants them to underestimate him!

Is anyone dumb enough to underestimate an Olympic and former world champion??? Whom is only 26 years old??????:confused::confused:

Even during Thomas cup 06 when Taufik was said to be suffering from back injury, Lin Dan was playing very cautiously against him in the first game, then once Lin Dan was sure Taufik was not close to 100%, it was doom for Taufik in the second game.

On the contrary, the same story is getting so tire to hear! If Taufik win then he's the most talented else he's not ready to play with all sort of excuses. Please, the talented Taufik is just not consistent enough as compare to World #1 Lin Dan.

Probably dispute over line-calls?

Anyway, Han is right. Everyone has to own up to his/her own results and STOP GIVING excuses, may it be Taufik Hidayat, Lin Dan, Peter Gade, Lee Chong Wei, or other players. If you win then that means you have done well otherwise the other player simply played better. I'm glad people didn't start a thread for Peter Gade when he was destroyed by Taufik Hidayat at last week's tournament, the China Masters.

Nevertheless, I hope Taufik Hidayat, Peter Gade, & Bao Chunlai all recover so that they can perform their best for an exciting the World Championships this year. I would like Peter Gade to win this title and the 2008 Bejing Olympics.

Another player I would like to see doing well in the upcoming tournaments is Chen Hong. This way he can prove to Li Yongbo that it is a mistake to neglect him in big tournaments such as Thomas Cup & Surdiman Cup.

Taufik Hidayat bowed out and shocked the crowd as he lost to Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in 2 sets 21-18 / 21-12 in the second round. “I was surprised that I won the match. In a way I felt that Taufik was not playing his best”, said Tien Minh.

“I found it hard to control the shuttle, it was too slow. I was frustrated that it went this way. However Tien Minh played well and he deserved to win”, said Taufik Hidayat.

Lee Chong Wei had an easy match by beating Andrew Smith from England 21-12/21-16. "Today the shuttlecock seemed to be faster and I had a better feel of it compared to the first few matches I played where the shuttles seemed to be slower. I was struggling a little and finding problem adjusting to the speed of the shuttle when I was playing against Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia earlier. I will play my best and hope to win this tournament" said Chong Wei.

I think Taufik always has trouble with small and agile opponents when he is not trying to play his best -- which he usually is in earlier rounds. It seems he never really prepares for early round opponents, and just tries to find out a winning strategy during the match. And when the opponent is very agile and can return all his shots no matter how good the placements are, he is in trouble.

Remember how Taufik in 05 almost lost to Boonsak?

Good to see the veterans still active, had a lot of respect for their talents ....

Anyway, when it comes to players like Tien Minh, Boonsak, Tago, Wacha even, I think that had they been playing in countries that take badminton really seriously, they would be even better players than they are now. Who knows, Tien Minh could have been another Taufik/LCW had he been born Indonesian or Malaysian.

Definitely talent and great coaching is already there, but without top quality sparring, it's really hard to develop your game to the fullest. Probably the reason why CHN can maintain it's consistency in almost all disciplines.

When Taufik played against Tien, he had a lot of baseline shots that went "long". I give due credit to Tien for his tenacity and very good conditioning against the very unpredictable shots of TH, but TH was very intimidated with the shuttle cock that is being used report says. It's a Victor (green)! Obviously, many players complain on the behaviour of the Victor shuttles! Even Bao Chunlai had a miserable time with this feather, spectators reported. Most of the players, if not all, keep on requesting for feather replacement during the games. Some Victor representatives in the event claim that it's the airconditioning that affects the overall speed and "flight" pattern of their feather. The Victor courts did not get a "thumbs up" from majority of the players as well. Some players had some "weird" falls due to the slippery conditions of the courts. I do hope Victor can improve their product line soon.

GS Taruna: Lindaweni [Ragunan] defeated Jenna Gozali [Djarum]
GS Remaja: Rischa [Djarum] defeated Gabby [I think Jaya Raya]...

I already left Tegal when the finals happened, but my friend who was still there told me:
WS: Rosaria "Pipin" Pungkasari [Djarum] defeated Rhanny Sanusi [Djarum]
GS Taruna: Lindaweni [Ragunan] defeated Jenna Gozali [Djarum]
GS Remaja: Rischa [Djarum] defeated Gabby [I think Jaya Raya]...
I pay more attention to the Women's game... He he he...:p

MS: ...I am not sure whether Budi won the final... But in the semis Ahmad Rivai defeated Nugroho Andi Saputro [a.k.a. Gepeng], and... maybe Budi won over Sartono Eko [a.k.a. Kiki]

Thank's for the info

Gabby from Ragunan
Budi def Kiki in Quarter Final, so in SF Budi beat "Bon Jovi"
still blind of BS U-19 and U-16 results

Taufik Hidayat bowed out and shocked the crowd as he lost to Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in 2 sets 21-18 / 21-12 in the second round. “I was surprised that I won the match. In a way I felt that Taufik was not playing his best”, said Tien Minh.

“I found it hard to control the shuttle, it was too slow. I was frustrated that it went this way. However Tien Minh played well and he deserved to win”, said Taufik Hidayat.

Fastdrop informed me that many players tripped..so it is true....whether it affected the players....we would not know but it happened when I called fasdrop and he mentioned it couple times....
