CCC Section 1 League, Every Sunday (bar one) in August

CCC League

The League is a semi-competitive environment for players of B/C grade to match their wits against others. Teams are determined on a weekly basis which makes the league ideal for those who cannot commit to a season of play in regular competition. So, if you are a player around B / C grade and would like something a little more competitive than social play please add your name to the list.

The Play

Two teams are selected each week from players that volunteer in this forum, each Monday or Tuesday a list will be started, add your name to the list if you want to play. The teams play a game schedule determined by the number of players. Team selection is usually Friday night with the teams posted in the forum on Saturday. Play is on Sunday night 7:30pm-10:30pm at the regular CCC venue (refer to the general forum for directions).

All games are doubles playing the new scoring system to 21 with no setting. The target is 8 games per person.

Team Selection

Teams are selected by first ranking the players into two or three groups depending on numbers. Teams are formed by alternately picking from each of the ranked groups. The players are then ordered according to their ranking in the team.

The number of players is capped at 14 for any given week. Preference will be given to members over non-members. If the player count at the time of the draw (usually Friday evening) is greater than 14 then numbers will be reduced by counting back first through non-members then members. Once the draw has been made the teams are fixed.

Player Rankings

Players are ranked on their performance over the preceding 8 weeks of play. The ranking is a number, typically near 1, determined by dividing the number of aces scored by the player by the number of aces scored by the opponents in all games played in the 8 weeks. The ranking aids in selecting teams and ordering the members of the teams. New players are assigned a rank of 1.

Suggestions on how we can improve play are always welcome.

Some time ago in the land of comics lived Scrooge McDuck, the rich uncle of Donald. Among the many things he owned was a money bin: big boxy building 6 storeys tall, large $ on each side, diving board. Now, in the summer months he always got that sinking feeling as these were the quaint old days when money was made from paper and the reduced humidity shrunk his prosperity several feet. He spent considerable effort solving the problem of the widening gap between diving board and cash.

Last Sunday 19-Aug-2007, at our Suppertime@CCC, after our CCC League Games, BadFever asked if we could move our League Games from Sundays to Tuesdays.

The reason = Because Monday is the first working day for most of us, playing on Sunday nights could be too tiring for many of us@work.

Well, I have checked our venue@Waverley, and I have found that all nights are fully booked there.

If anyone know of a venue available for Tuesday nights for our CCC League Games, please let us know. :cool::cool::cool:

We need to look at what we can do to keep the numbers at a reasonable level, currently we don't have enough to make the games viable. The feedback I'm getting is that Sunday is not the preferred day for playing the games however there may be other reasons. If you have any feedback or suggestions then please wave your hand.

BadFever is unable to continue to organise the games, I thank him for keeping the wheels turning the last few weeks.

I don't want to start a list of players for this week just yet. If you're interested and we can sort out where we're going then log on Friday and we'll put one together then.

To get the ball rolling here are a couple of starters:

(1) Move the play to another venue mid-week.

(2) Open the competition to more players at CCC.

My thoughts on this matter:
Given that we have very little people turning up to Sundays, the better option would be to move the day when we're playing.
Most people that BadFever and I have a chat with indicated that Wednesdays are preferred, however, I'd leave it to them to indicate their preferences before making further recommendations.With my preferences, mid-week would be nigh impossible soon, as I'd be up in Brisbane during the week in the following months.

My thoughts:-

I am a non member and this might not carry too much weight. The main reasons for not being a member - my arm is getting very injury proned these days and therefore attend on an ad hoc basis ( i.e not as committed as before). The last 2 leagues has been tough for my arms because of the shortage of players.

1. Wed or Fri is good.

2. Chris should tell us what he has generally in mind before we comment because in most of previous cases consensus doesn't really work , eg he has his prior plans for CATS , social handicapped games , no of courts available etc.

3. Section 1 & 2 leagues held together so courts will be fully used, players occassionally interchangeable to make up numbers but both sections should not mix and not more than 14 for 2 courts. Reasons obvious to most.

Like yschin, I am also waiting for any major discovery of "Super Bionic" arm that can replace my current worn out and injury proned arm. Until such happening, again quoting from yschin, I will be attending CCC on a ad hoc basis, "not as committed as before". :o

I play regularly on Sunday morning with my parents and I couldn't cope with playing twice in a day. My body must be getting old like YS and BF.. :p

However, I don't mind if the league is moved to a weekday (prefer Wed, not Fri). But I think we should only start it if we can get enough players.

Now that we are to discontinue our Sunday night, our 4 regular members from Sunday CATS are willing to move to Wednesday... thereby making 12 regular members attending our Wednesday CATS.

This how our members wanted.

Our 8 regular members wanting our CCC League Games to be moved from Sunday has been heard. It is just a matter of time when/where we can find another venue to hold it.

As DoublesPlease has stated, we are open to slotting the games or something similar into one of the existing midweek nights, that is, to play on one court on our Wednesday or Friday night.

DoublesPlease and I are not in a position to organise it.

DoublesPlease is still away in Brisbane, and I am required by other members@ccc to care for their CATS on our Wednesday night and to care for their Social Games on our Friday night.

Hehehe... it's such a late report, but we appreciate it. :):):)

Unfortunately, without you in Melbourne, our CCC Section 1 League Games have come to a stop. :o:o:o

Perhaps, many of our CCC members have now realised that we need workers, such like you with action and passion, to share time with us to organise our CCC activities.

Many have talked and spoken, but none have dedicated/devoted to our activities as you have done.

BTW, hkhung thought he might take the opportunity to start our CCC Section 2 & 3 League Games. It can be found to be located at:

Also, some have questioned me as to why I didn't step into your position to organise our Section 1 Games. Well, as you know, I couldn't spread myself enough to look after everything@ccc, but to delegate the different jobs to our different members.

Our CCC Badminton Family has become quite big now, and we need as many volunteers as we can get, to look after our many different ways to promote Badminton in Melbourne.

Also, some have questioned me as to why I didn't step into your position to organise our Section 1 Games. Well, as you know, I couldn't spread myself enough to look after everything@ccc, but to delegate the different jobs to our different members.

Our CCC Badminton Family has become quite big now, and we need as many volunteers as we can get, to look after our many different ways to promote Badminton in Melbourne.

There is no Wednesday League Games, but Social Games plus CATS at the moment. :)

It is hkhung who is planning to start our CCC Section 2 & 3 League Games for Fridays and 1 court will be allocated for him because he has 8 participants interested in it. It can be found to be located at:

Regarding our Wednesday session, we also have 1 court in which we can organise League Games, but we require someone to organise it.
