According to Wiki, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taufik_Hidayat,
Taufik holds the record of forehand smash in MS, which is 198mph (317 km/h). Anyone can confirm this or prove it untrue?

The former record holder was Kenneth Jonassen (this article is from 2005):
http://english.people.com.cn/200505/14/eng20050514_184991.html
Here's Taufik's smash (2006):

So it appears to be true. Wikipedia had a typo though, which I've corrected: it's 189mph not 198.

TH mayb the best forehand smasher in MS department.. But i fink Fu Hai Feng is currently holding the world record of fastest smash in badminton with 218mph.
We wish to see any players are able to break this record in the coming WC !

Did he refer to Rudy Hartono instead?
No, TH never won any AE title and that's why he can't claim to be the best ever yet. :p He had a chance this year but I think his marriage got into the way!
I'm aftraid Indra may get offended and come back at me with his offence!

Notice the word final.
Yikes, that wikipedia entry is painful to read. It looks like it was written by an elementary school student.

The whole wikipedia Taufik article is rediculously biased and misleading. It sounds like it was written by a Taufik fan. Seriously. "He is the most natural player, and makes the game look easy". That is obviously the kind of stuff a fan would write.

This article is just pure opinion, there's very little facts in it. You can tell that a young Taufik fan wrote it, but the part that really irked me was the part where it says "...at this point Gillian Clarke shut up."
Two thumbs down.

Rewrite it if it bothers you so much?

I would, but then I'd need to do a lot of researching in order to write a proper article, but I've no time for that. The person who wrote the article must know alot about Taufik, but I wish that they would've made it a bit more professional.

And my little word about Wikipedia was 'chit-chat'.
Most records are based on the broadcasted speed on tv. However there are also many records which is not broadcasted.

powerful back court smashes seem to be significantly reduced in taufik's recent games. his smashes really stings a few years back:)

i think taufik has the most beautiful and powerful backhand smash. Actually, all the backhand shots from taufik are beautiful. Among all the top players, his backhand is the best.

Where is the speed of the smash measured from? The net?

It's at the point the shuttle leaves the racket.
