SUBANG: A dream final between national No 1 Lee Chong Wei with either Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat or China's Lin Dan is on the cards in the World Championships, which will be held at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil from Aug 13-19.
The player most feared by many - Taufik - is not in the same half of the draw as second seed Chong Wei.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) released the results of the draw today.
Top seed Lin Dan is expected to face off with Olympic champion Taufik in the quarter-finals. The winner of that match is expected to play China's fourth seed Bao Chunlai in the semi-finals.
"What can I say; the draw does look very favourable for me. Lin Dan, Taufik and even Bao are not in my half of the draw and that is good news for me," said a delighted Chong Wei.
"But I do not want to assume that reaching the final will be easier. I will not underestimate anyone," he said.
Chong Wei, who gets a first round bye, is expected to take on Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro in the third round.
If he advances, Denmark's Peter Gade-Christensen is expected to await him at the quarter-finals.

Judging by the draw, it definitely augurs well for LCW. I declare LCW 5/4 chance.

I would say Hafiz has a decent draw even though he may have to meet Taufik on 3rd round if both of them get that far. It's easier to beat Taufik on the early round than later base on past record. Further more, playing as underdog is always pressure free.

The BWF had named Denmark’s Mathias Boe-Joachim Fischer Nielsen as the 14th seeds although the Danes had not been entered for the world meet.
After dismissing the slip-up as an administration error, Indonesians Joko Riyadi-Hendra A Gunawan have been seeded 14th while Bin Shen-Soon Hock moved up one rung. Japan’s Shuichi Sakamoto-Ikeda Shintaro are now seeded 16th. BWF also announced that China’s Du Jing-Yu Yang are the fourth seeds in the women’s doubles and not Zhao Tingting-Yu Yang.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm hoping for, because that is the one title that has eluded them as a pair. Tony's won it with Halim and Howard, Candra's won it with Sigit, but the pair of Tony/Candra has claimed every other title but that. If they could win this title, it'd be a great way to end one of the greatest partnerships in the sport's history, and would also put them on par with the likes of Kim/Ha and Ricky/Rexy as a pair that has won the 3 most prestigious tournaments.

Then again, that's what 85% of the BC community said back in 2005 when Tony/Howard were to face Jens Erikson/Martin Lungaard, Alven/Luluk and of course, Candra/Sigit in the World Championships 2005, and we all remember what happened then! My point simply being, it's a sport, anything can happen, upsets are a part of the game and underdogs have a way of proving their critics wrong.

It will be a cracking QF match and I hope Kido/Hendra prevail and should play against Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun in the semi-final. Fu/Cai themselves have Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen and Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah in their quarter.

Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto should also fulfill their 8th seeding with possible matches against 2 Japanese pairs Naoki Kawamae/Keishi Kawaguchi and the more experienced Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda. Yes, its a good draw for LCW....but it only looks easy.... he still have to play Sony,...and CY..who have a good record againts LCW....then Peter Gade...who beat LCW in Thomas Cup 2006...still not looks comfortable....needs a lot of hard works...hope LCW will prevail...

(2) BCL will probably meet LHI in R16. If he advances, KJ or Wacha will be next opponent in QF. Both LHI & Wacha can bring some damage to BCL.
(3) CJ will have his first encouter with Ronald, who defeated LD in OG04. Possible opponent in QF for him wil be CY or PSH.
(4) The real test for LCW will start in R16 against Sony. If he advances, PG or Simon will be next waiting for him in QF.

Agree.If the CHN MS form is like in CM07, who knows none of them may make the QFs in the worst scenario case. The weather in Malaysia's gonna be more humid than Singapore. If the MAS crowd supports their opponents 100%, early round upsets are likely,like in SO07.
