After the JTUltra friendly match, we went into soul searching mode during supper to discuss how we might improve our performance next time against JTUltra.

Personally I think the first issue is mental. Recognising why we're playing badminton

Do we want to improve our game or do we want to just play socially?
If you do want to improve, how much time and effort are you willing to channel into this new commitment?
Do you have the right resources? eg. feedback, instruction via coaching or alternative means

I am playing badminton because I want to

keep fit
progress my standard of play as much as I possibly canI am willing to improve my singles by practicing and I am willing to train 6-10 hours a week for the next few months.

I have a plan and I will utilise external resources when the need arises. But first and foremost, I will be training footwork speed. It will be painful but the benefits will be worth it in the end.

Hi Mikester,

It's great that you are enthusiastic !!! :):):)

On Sunday 12-August-2007, at CCC@MSAC, we will start a program to improve your footwork and to increase its speed.

The coursework would be vigorous.

Make sure your socks(preferably, wearing 2 pairs, one thin & one thick together) and your shoes are in excellent condition. Extra T-shirts, a towel and drinks are essential.

Cheers... chris@ccc

Mike:

Regarding to training together, when there are one day competition coming up (see monash, RMIT or melbourne U open), i can see the possibility of training together. We might talk about this more with the people who are interested in playing competition.

However, it depends on what you want though. As i can see there are different types of training
- skill training (which i have no idea of cos i am not a coach)
- physical training (this i have a little bit of idea, things like explosive training, core conditioning each carries a different purpose - pretty much gym stuff as you already know)

Do u know Nick from our sunday MSAC coaching group? He's into physical training.

Ken, I have already set a reasonable base training fitness level at the moment. For me it's about transferring that to specific badminton footwork and skillwork.

I know what I need to do in order to be a better badminton player. Now it's just a matter of actually physically doing it.

I have spoken to Nick and he's doing his own thing but I'm not interested in playing games just yet. That will be for later.

Let me know if you want to join in because I will start footwork training later this week.
