GZD/XZB = 23630 pts from 5 tournaments

MAS MF/MZakry = 24060 from 5 tournaments: notional points 24060x10/5 = 48120 (7th seed confirmed)

same calcs for GZD/XZB = 23630 x 10/5 = 47260 (8th seed to be)

Oh dear! Redraw?

Are you sure? Guo/Xie may (or may not) be better than MZ/MF but "a class above"????? MZ/MTF was at least a runner-up (plus a qf appearance) in a SS while the best results of Guo/Xie in the SS are two qf appearances.

Anyways these 2 pairs will be squaring off during 2nd round. Lets see which pair is a class above the other.

i think XZB has done very well in XD, much better than any of his previous accomplishments in MD. so far, it seems like a wise choice of events for him.

XZB is a big guy but playing style is more 1 dimensional, the mental is a little weak too....

I fink at the moment CHN doesnt have any reliable / consistent second MD pair.. Thats why he needs to play 2 events in most of the tournaments.. He could achieve something BIG in XD rather than in MD

If not mistaken, I think CHN pair had more than 5 tournaments & thus not eligible for multiplying factor recalcumation.

GZD/XZB have played together 12-24 months ago, so they are not eligible for notional rankings.
Zakry/Fairuz have not (because they are a totally new pairing), therefore they are eligible (points divide by 5 and multiplied by 10).

It's all a bit messy, but there you go. Rules are rules until you change it.

Xie/Guo should be in the path:
Have A and B got ... (yes)
Have they played in 8 or more ... (no)
Did A and B play together ... (yes)
Use World Ranking

Nice to finally read a thread discussing XZB. I personally think he deserves more attention and following in terms of his skills.

And thanks for posting the calculations for rankings. That clarify matters :)

Yes I see the point.

Bit silly if one reason for allowing this mechanism is allowing player/s returning from injury (as a cited example within rule book) to get reasonable ranking but then have 12-24 month rule. Serious sports injuries take 6-12 months recovery (e.g. WCH ruptured Achilles tendon) and as you begin a comeback - smack comes the rule of 12-24 months. Maybe better to abolish this mechanism altogether for simplicity.

Any way absolutely right - rules are rules. Phew! as MAS fan, a redraw would be potentially dreadful as current draw is good for MAS MD Inc.

well, there aren't any rules out there which will make every party happy, the most important thing is that the rules are applied fairly and consistently, and have in mind the interests of the majority of the people affected by the rules. i think the current rules are not perfect, but are fair, which is why you don't see any of the badminton federations of individual countries complaining.

Sure, rules don't please everyone. Why this specific 12-24 months exclusion as a rationale?
