KUALA LUMPUR: Wong Choong Hann did not qualify for the World Championships but his presence will still be strongly felt.
The 30-year-old Choong Hann, who was the runner-up in the 2003 championships in Birmingham, is one of three television commentators for the proceedings at the Putra Stadium this time. The others are former rugby player John Burgess of England and Canadian shuttler Charmaine Reid.
Blurry D 08-06-2007, 10:04 PM Haha lol...His future career?? I remembered what happened in MO he suddenly became the MC.WCH is a cheerful guy..
markchan 08-06-2007, 10:10 PM I was hoping Gillian Clark would be the commentator.
samuel882 08-06-2007, 10:11 PM WCH already shows his skills in Asian Junior Championship last month.

Yes, but not a good compere. Still raw, very staccato in his questioning skills.
abedeng 08-07-2007, 12:47 AM Never mind, maybe one day he'll be as good as Gill Clark.
azabaz_ipoh 08-07-2007, 01:03 AM we all have to start somewhere. and nobody are really perfect early on in their career. WCH still have much to improve but if he puts his mind to it, i believe he will. if he wants to. glad that he will be there. he was always like a big brother to all the malaysian players. there's a sense of calmness around him. maybe he could be the anchor for the malaysian team. chaiyuk WCH! :)
Cheung 08-07-2007, 02:59 AM Do yuou think he could be worse than than the male commentator from last year?
X Ball 08-07-2007, 03:18 AM Never mind, maybe one day he'll be as good as Gill Clark.
I want to give him training.
xymaerts 08-07-2007, 03:47 AM He is commentating for which TV Channel? I am sure is not RTM as Hasbulah Awang will sure there to commentating. Astro maybe?
Tjun Tjun 08-07-2007, 05:15 AM I was hoping Gillian Clark would be the commentator.
I was hoping for Gillian Clark too. Maybe her fees were too high and Astro was not willing to pay.
jbchiong 08-07-2007, 06:20 AM Gillian Clark, Morten Frost and WCH are my preferred commentators. I hope they would changed their minds.

I doubt Astro would pay directly to the commentator. Rather the broadcaster who sells the rights to each individual station is more likely to employ a particular commentator, especially an english speaking one.

I have to admit that I do not know much how the broadcasting industry works. Here I'm just guessing Astro hires the commentators and then sells the TV rights to the individual stations.

Morten Frost is my favourite commentator.Highly impartial, never puts down any player and tries to highlight the positives of the weaker player when the opportunity arises.Describes what 's gone wrong, gone right, how a winning point's created, how A can have better chances playing B in a certain way, etc.All this done in his quiet spoken manner in the sheerest economy of words so his commentary does not distract you from the action;rather it enhances the appreciation of the game.
WCH would do well to learn from him.As for his interviewing skills, he speaks well.He sounded hesitant in his maiden effort because he probably did not do his homework. No matter what, it helps to have a written list to rehearse from beforehand because on TV, you cannot be caught with a loss for words as an interviewer;the silence would be deafening.WCH can only get better. All the best to him.
samuel882 08-07-2007, 10:16 AM I have attend a Time Management Courses in KL with Morten before.. He was really a humble person.. His English standards was surprisingly very high considered he is from DEnmark in which English is not his mother tongue..
LazyBuddy 08-07-2007, 01:33 PM Glad to see WCH still staying in touch with badminton. Whether watching him competing or just listening to him, is a pleasure. ;)
cappy75 08-07-2007, 04:53 PM Why do they still keep John Burgess?! He should have been kept to rugby only. Did Gillian Clark retire? WCH has a huge load to carry on his first assignment!
GunBlade008 08-07-2007, 05:00 PM Gillian Clark and Morton Frost are the best commentating combination I've ever heard in my life! :p

As long as there is no English pair involved, I find Gillian Clark quite unbiased neutral in her commentaries. :) No doubt she's one of the best commentators for this sport.
abedeng 08-07-2007, 08:32 PM Yup, they should keep Gill Clark. At least as co-commentator like in the Philippines Open.
chibe_K 08-07-2007, 09:43 PM I have never heard his voice on TV before, hope someone can upload video clips onto youtube.
