View Full Version : Racket Hos please chime in
orgasmerator 08-14-2007, 11:48 AM First off, a little about myself. I played a ton of MD in high school but since then (~11yrs), I haven't really played much. I would definitely say I am not as fit as before.
I believe my ti-10 is from 1992, serials ending with US. Supposedly it's an OG racket and still heavily liked by many. I just got it restrung a month ago when I started playing again with BG80 at 24lbs (was told it'd go down to 21-22lbs after a little bit of playing).
I was greedy and overdid my first couple of sessions and now my shoulder is all jacked up.
I'm wondering if I should get something different. I'd want something doubles oriented since I've read my ti-10 is mostly for singles.
I'm not too familiar with BC's swapshop in terms of deals gone awry with the seller not selling after the payment was received or trades gone bad with one side not shipping their stuff.
Even for an old racket, mine does not have any paintchips, just some scuffing on the frame in one spot. If I were to trade, what would be a good trade for me? If I were to sell, what would be a good price?
Thanks a lot guys.

LazyBuddy 08-14-2007, 12:28 PM If you haven't playing for long time, Ti10 with BG80@ 24lb might be too much. Ti10 itself is fairly stiff and unforgiving, thin string such as BG80 @24lb is very stiff as well. If you are still trying to recover from the playing form, then this combo is kinda risky for both performance and your health (i.e. shoulder, elbow or wrist injuries)
Either lower the tension or get another more forgiving racket (lighter and less stiff) for now. Choices popping in my head right now, could be AT500, NS8k, AT800DE if for Yonex. Sotx Woven 8/8A, ProKennex D800 or C700 could be nice alternate choices as well.
david07 08-14-2007, 12:32 PM Yup, since ur starting fresh again, start with a easier racket, try for a even balanced and not so stiff racket with lower tension. Give Sotx Woven 8/a a try with BG-80 at around 21 lbs, should be pretty easy for you to use
big8oy 08-14-2007, 01:08 PM Orgasmerator is my buddy and was wondering if a NS5k would work for him as that is what I have.

LOL, you want the holy grail?
orgasmerator 08-14-2007, 01:15 PM Thank you all for your advice. I also have an aerotus 44 with BG80 at 24lbs too. Maybe I should've hit that for a couple months before jumping to the big dog. I think I'm gonna be out of commission for a month. :(

Try out the AR40 with BG80 for a few month before you make a decision on what you want.

Definitely. :) My shoulder can't hang with the ti-10 right now anyways. It just sucks since I'm all gung ho about baddy now but my shoulder's borked. :crying:

Golf is a much more expensive hobby and that's what I've been playing for 3 years before I found out about the baddy place 5mins from my house. :)
Suffice to say, not just my shoulder is broke. ;)
XtC-604 08-15-2007, 11:41 AM lol, i think having a baddy place 5 mins away is !@#$ing sweet man cause then you can wake up and go play badminton =O, unlike me, i have to freaken bus for 1:15mins +-15mins to get to my usual facility.

That, my friend, is dedication. :)
I probably wouldn't be able to wake up and go play baddy because I have to work in the mornings. :p

Lol... also gotta factor in that you can play there... I have a baddy place 5mins away from my place but the only people that play there are Level A+... Went there once... never again... :(
1:15mins isn't too bad... If I were to bus, it would prolly take me 2+hrs... thank god I drive now... :p but even then... takes ~50-60mins for me to get there...

The hardships you guys go through to play baddy. :crying:
Makes me want to play so bad but I must resist or my shoulder will never get better.
Tsuioku 08-15-2007, 03:46 PM How long did the doctor say you have to rest for? Also, word of caution, even after the rest period has ended, go back to your doctor to make sure. And more importantly... TAKE IT EASY when you start playing again...
I made those mistakes a few years back when I injured my knee. Doctor told me to rest 3mo, I played immediately afterwards... turns out I wasn't completely healed yet... Doctor tells me to rest 6mo... I played too hard this second time... re-injured... this time... had to rest a year... ><
Finally started playing again a few months ago. Felt like a beginner again... I injured my shoulder last monday playing tennis... while my shoulder didn't hurt anymore a couple days after... I'm still giving it a bit more rest... I learned the hard way and don't need anymore lessons...
Take it from a Pro(ne to injury guy)... Keep up the willpower and it will definitely pay off in the long run.
orgasmerator 08-15-2007, 03:49 PM Thanks for the heads up. In the meantime, it's back to golf since it doesn't hurt or screw with my shoulder. :D
