not enough money to win and too much expenses to travel.
tony pairing with raju because candra doesn't want spend $1500 ticket to USA and plus hotel and food for a week tournament. tony must play because he repr. USA.
badMania 08-19-2007, 10:16 AM The MS is still quite interesting with a few international players like Lee Tsuen Tseng, Shoji Sato, and Nguyen Tien-Minh. I will be supporting Tien-Minh!
In the MD, the just-crowned WC bronze-medallist Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda is the top-seed and will be all out for a title here. Their counterpart, Tadashi Ohtsuka/Keita Masuda is the second seed. Interestingly, some MAS juniors like Lim Khim Wah/Mak Hee Chun and Lim Fang Yang/Mohd Abdul Latif (Arif Latif??) are also participating  I find it strange also that Tony Gunawan is not pairing up with Halim Heryanto to defend the title they won last year. Instead, Halim pairs up with Eric Go and have to play the qualifiers
Somehow, the WS draw is still not updated.
In the WD, the top 2 seeds are also JAP pairs: Aki Akao/Tomomi Masuda and Satoko Suetsuna/Miyuki Maeda. I guess this tournament is too lowly ranked for the cute pair of Kumiko Ogura/Reiko Shiota. KOR is represented by a strong pair too in Ha Jung Eun/Hwang Yu Mi and another strange pairing of Lee Yun Hwa/Jun Jae Youn  MAS fields their juniors like Goh Liu Ying/Ng Hui Lin and Lydia Cheah/Tee Jing Yi as well as some possibly club pairs like Lim Pek Siah/Haw Chiou Hwee and Chor Hoi Yee/Ang Li Peng
In the XD, the top seed Han Sang Hoon/Hwang Yu Mi faces a tricky match against Tony Gunawan/Minarti Timur as early as the second round. Other strong pairs include the second-seed Keita Masuda/Miyuki Maeda, Tadashi Ohtsuka/Satoko Suetsuna, the Asuncion siblings, and some pretty experienced MAS juniors like Lim Khim Wah/Ng Hui Lin and Mak Hee Chun/Goh Liu Ying.
Oh, there is no presence of the Russians who stole the show last year. Overall, should be more interesting than last year's US Open and hopefully ppl like kwun, ctjcad and our own Hau-ge can provide some interesting posts and pictures.

..just saw the draws a few minutes ago...Not eye-opening but definitely quite interesting..Yes, there is definitely a significant presence of the JPN players. Imagine if the Shiota & Ogura combo were to come and participate, the place will fill up even more:p. But i'm sure with a boat load of JPN players, ie. Kanako Yonekura and her compatriots, the place will def. fill up..
Hmm, also looks like this yr's draw will be a make-up event for some of last yr's players who were supposed to come and compete, but cancelled last minute. Namely Minarti Timur and the 2 INA's playing for Philippines.
Interesting to see Tony and Halim not playing together and defend their MD title. Perhaps they are giving ways to Howard and Bob for a possible clash/rematch of their WC match with Ohtsuka and Masuda in the Final..;)
XD looks interesting, as the up-and-coming young KOR pair is the top seed.
*Good to see lots of local players competing as well. And yes, our master Viper2005 is finally back. Ready to rock and roll in 2 events..;)
**Hope I still have the energy/not tired/not too jetlagged after my trip back next week to take some pics and record the matches for your video enjoyment..;):)
the draw at tournamentsoftware is not complete. for the complete draw, go here:
http://www.internationalbadminton.org/draws.asp
the WS will be interesting. i think Jun Jae Youn and Lee Yun Hwa will have a good chance against the locals and Canadians. technically better and more experienced.

cooler 08-27-2007, 02:05 PM Vietnamese badminton star has great chance in American Open
09:34' 27/08/2007 (GMT+7)
VietNamNet Bridge - Leading Vietnamese shutter Nguyen Tien Minh has a good draw in the American Badminton Open and a great chance of progressing.
In the first two rounds the world number 45 plays opponents ranked far below him. If he beats Sri Lanka’s world number 237 Dinuka Karunaratne in the opening round, he will play the winner of the match between 240th ranked Agusriad Amphie of Indonesia and 62nd ranked Roman Spitko of Germany.
He is expected to run into Canadian Richard Vaughan, the world number 30, in the next round, with the winner booking a spot in the last eight. All the players in the world’s top ten are absent, leaving the field open to others.
Vietnam has sent three players for the men’s singles, men’s doubles, and men’s team events in the tournament to run from August 28 to September 1. The others are Nguyen Quang Minh and Tran Thanh Hai.
In the last two years, the skilful Minh has made great progress, beating several top players like Dane Kenneth Jonassen, South Korean Lee Hyun-il, Thai Boonsak Ponsana, and Indonesian Taufik Hidayat.
BadFrank 08-27-2007, 06:13 PM Richard Vaughan is NOT Canadian
twobeer 08-27-2007, 07:21 PM I am pretty sure Nguyen Tien Minh will meet T.S. Lee in the Semi...
The other half looks more tricky to predict :-)
Sat, Tago and Ayob will fight it out.. My bet would go to Ayob.. I am hoping for Tago to get his break though :-)
/Twobeer
huangkwokhau 08-27-2007, 07:36 PM Most of MAS players withdrew...resulted many Byes..so the tournament is becoming weaker and weaker....expect Big fines for BAM after last minute withdrawal for US open and Indonesia Challenge....only LTS and Ayob in MS, none in WS.....
Jaguar 08-30-2007, 12:44 AM "He is expected to run into Canadian Richard Vaughan"

I agree, he is Welsh

coachgary 08-30-2007, 08:38 AM Richard Vaughan to win, 21 -16, 21-19 I reckon!!
Jaguar 08-30-2007, 12:05 PM I'm so sad that I can't be there to watch the game today. This is one of the matches I'd like to watch the most and it is very emotional for me due to the countries they both represent. Whatever the outcome is, I'm sure it's going to be a very good match
