View Full Version : Badminton In Seoul

I was in South Korea this week and I must thank BC member 'event' for making it a great visit. I was desperately seeking a place to play and, unless you know Korean, it's quite difficult to even begin searching for a place to play 'baeduminton' in Seoul.

I think it's a good idea to share with everyone in BC what 'event' told me:

(http://www.expat-advisory.com/forums/badminton-at-seoul-foreign-school-vt141.html)This place (http://www.expat-advisory.com/forums/badminton-at-seoul-foreign-school-vt141.html) is likely the closest to you and the easiest considering the language barrier. However, I don't know whether the club is still going nor whether there are any good players. The best chance to find good players is to stick with a Korean club and try to get by the language barrier. I'll include some links here to Korean sites with phone numbers and, in some cases, maps just in case you have a helpful concierge or someone else to help.

Another place to try might be the (http://www.expat-advisory.com/forums/badminton-at-seoul-foreign-school-vt141.html)Shin Yeon Club (http://minton.x-y.net/cgi-bin/technote/read.cgi?board=seoul-sudaemun&y_number=0&nnew=2), which plays a little farther up the same road at Shin Yeon middle school. That is a club with 90 members and they play from 7-10PM.

Another place that is the same distance away is the Seodaemoon-gu Moonhwa Hwoe-gwan(서대문구문화회관/西大門區文化會官). It is has a listed club that plays in the mornings. I thought there was a club that played there in the evenings too, though. The gym is on the 3rd floor of that facility.

Probably the easiest one for you to find would be the one at (http://www.expat-advisory.com/forums/badminton-at-seoul-foreign-school-vt141.html)Hongik University (http://minton.x-y.net/cgi-bin/technote/read.cgi?board=seoul-mapo&y_number=9), which is within walking distance (a few hundred metres). I can't see when it plays, though.

The other one is (http://www.expat-advisory.com/forums/badminton-at-seoul-foreign-school-vt141.html)this place (http://www.gssi.or.kr/sports/sports_04_1.asp). It is a dedicated badminton gym with 12 courts. I think you get in with a 3000 or 4000 won fee and it's open from 6 to 11 each day. It's a little far but it's big and you don't have to feel uncomfortable about showing up at a club. To get there, just hop on bus #6712 going toward the river (should be a bus stop opposite your hotel). It's 12km and should take about 45min.

Most clubs will let you play once or twice without troubling you about membership so that shouldn't be a problem as a visitor. If you're good, you should have absolutely no problems getting games regardless of the language barrier. The clubs generally have membership fees, which contribute toward both gym rental and monthly drinking excursions but I've never heard of a club trying to recoup anything from a visitor in the form of a guest fee. Instead, they generally just let you play once or twice and then the treasurer takes you aside for a membership pitch. The Magok badminton gym is different. It is a public facility that is operated by the city and charges an entry fee that is likely subsidized.

The place I went to was the Shin Yeon Club (be warned that no one speaks English). There are 9 courts, good changing facilities, an endless supply of cool water, plenty of good shuttles and an abundance of good players, including a couple of excellent women players. If you're the run-a-lot type, please note that the courts are drawn so close to each other that there isn't even room to walk between the courts.

I played there for 3 nights and got along absolutely fine with just the language of badminton. They play the old point system but with game point at 21.

Although the entry fee was KWN 2,000 per session (just over USD 2.00), they refused to take any money. I believe it was because I obliged just about everyone who asked for a game :p. However, I did drop KWN 10,000 in the collection box at the club - come on, USD 10 for 3 sessions isn't a big deal. The ladies even took turns to give me a lift back to my hotel every night. Thanks a ton to my Korean friends for the warmth and courtesy. :)
Thank you Event for making all this possible.

Well thank you, oldhand, for the feedback. It's good to know that it wasn't too difficult to find and fit in. I myself play so rarely in Seoul so I have to rely on online listings plus my knowledge of the geography and what I know of clubs in general to give any advice, which I've done many times. You are the first to tell me of your experiences. I'm just glad they were positive.

Do give me a buzz if you're coming to Singapore. :)

Hi guys

I'm going to be in Seoul in Dec (from 3rd to 22nd), and will be desperate to play, so if anyone wants to let me tag along to their club, I'd be very grateful :D

I play at a reasonable league standard and don't mind travelling a bit.

Cheers and thanks

Unless you can read Korean well enough to use public transport, arm yourself with tons of Korean Won (for taxi fares) and the determination to play come what may :D

If you manage to find a place to play close to where you stay, remember to give yourself at least 10 minutes to hail a cab, 30 minutes to reach the location and another 30 minutes to find the exact place.

A few on-court tips:
1. Pay the entrance fee (if there's one) upfront - there might be a collection box :)
2. Wait to be invited to play - else you might be breaking up a family game :)
3. Do not reject a partner - play with whoever steps on to court with you :)
4. Remember to bow to everyone on court after the warm-up and before the game :)
5. Most players have a habit of knocking your racquet with theirs after winning a point  - use your cheapest racquet if you're sensitive about this (I am)... :D if you're the lose-always sort, this doesn't apply :p
6. Do not change clothes in the open areas - no one likes Tarzan anyway :p

Finally, DO NOT take a taxi from the airport to anywhere.
Use the bus.
It's grossly cheaper, as comfortable and as fast as the cabs. :)

(PS: As a foreigner, I could be wrong or prejudiced on many counts - event is the best guy to explain.)

I play at a reasonable league standard and don't mind travelling a bit. You're welcome to tag along here if it isn't too far for you. Post here or PM me and let me know roughly where you're going to be and I'd be happy to suggest a tag-along or a place nearer where you'd be.

Playing is always possible but if you'd like to be a spectator too, unfortunately you'll miss the Suwon International Challenge by a day. The nationals might be on while you're here, too, but then they might end up being later because of the SS finals.

About the Suwon International Challenge - if you or anyone makes it - it is extremely easy to get to from Seoul. Just go to Sadang Station on the #4 or #2 line, go out exit #4, and keep walking until you see the 7-11 (See first .jpg), in front of which you hop on the 7770 bus (there could be a huge lineup for the bus but you won't wait long as the buses are very frequent). The bus shouldn't take much more than 30min from Sadang.

As for where to get off, it is right after a popular stop, Hanil Town, for which the announcement should sound the same in Korean as in English - "han-eel ta-oon" and "Sam-sung home peu-luh-seu" - basically English. Once you hear that and see the department store on the left with its big pyramid-shaped spire, push the button for the next stop as the bus turns right and you see the sports complex on your left. See the second jpeg for the location of Suwon Indoor Gymnasium, the tournament venue.

Hi Event,

I'm here in Seoul, at last! Unfortunately, I'm quite far from Suwon, the other end of the city in fact so I don't think I will get out to play at your club. And I just missed the big tournament too! Too bad, I love watching top internationals play live.

Anyway, I'm staying in Dongdaemun-gu, in Jang-an-dong, so if you know of any clubs that play near here, I'd be very grateful for any information.

Thanks, and hope you enjoyed the tournament.

Yes, the tournament was thoroughly enjoyable, thank you.

The nationals were to have been held next week but they have apparently been cancelled, so you won't even have the opportunity to catch the best in Korea play each other.

As for clubs in Dongdaemun-gu, unfortunately, the best listing of clubs has disappeared since Oldhand came to town and so I have only a bit of information for you from this short list (http://www.badmintontimes.com/club/clubList.jsp?menunum=11&sf=1&sw=%B5%BF%B4%EB%B9%AE%B1%B8), all in Korean, of course.

One option, if you're available during the day, is the Dongdaemun-gu Indoor Gymnasium in Jangan-dong. You can play there from 9AM to 1PM with the Sky Club members. There are apparently 9 courts and 50 members in the club, which probably means that other non-club members or another unlisted club share the facility. The directions are here (http://www.ddmgongdan.or.kr/life_center/gymnasium/info/main1.php?url=./info) (in Korean, of course) but it's near Janganpyung Stn on the #5 line.

That sounds as if they disappeared because I came to SeoulI apologize for that unintended connotation. I don't know what happened. I had really come to rely on that listing. It was great. The names of the "gu"'s were Romanized and there was a maplet for almost every club. I don't even know who operated it nor where I found it.

The YMCA club on that list is also in Jang-an dong. It is at the Goomin Chaeyook Centre (http://www.ddmgongdan.or.kr/life_center/center/info/main1.php?url=./info) (directions in Korean again) right near Anpyung Elem. School. There are 4 courts there and they play in the evenings from 7 to 10.

Again, I have to reiterate that I have no firsthand experience with these clubs. The only person I've heard from who's played in Seoul is Oldhand and the club he played at is a fair piece (about 15 subway stops incl one transfer) from Dongdaemoon.

Thanks for the info, Event. I will try the two clubs you mentioned. I'm sure they'll be fine.

Is it the same place? No. According to the sign, that is Ahyun Elementary School, which is 5km away from Shinyeon Middle School, the site of the Shinyeon club, to which I attempted to give you directions. According to the only club listings presently available, Ahyun Elementary School is the site of the Sky Club. In hindsight, it would have been only 3 subway stops away from you, but I don't remember suggesting it. I honestly don't know how you could have ended up there unless a) your taxi driver/concierge was a badminton player and drove/directed you to a place he knew; or b) someone called the chair/treasurer who had since changed clubs. Or maybe the club just moved. Who knows?

Either way, the two clubs I suggested to david14700 are on the east side of town, closer to where he is staying.

Well, I had a girl at the hotel's front office work all those leads that you provided me.
Unfortunately, they were all either temporarily closed, permanently closed or too far away. :crying:

Seeing how despondent I was, the girl called some of her (I presume) friends... she told me about this place (the school) and even arranged for a sheet of written instructions (of course, in taxi-driver-readable Korean). That's how I managed to find a place to play :p

Hi guys

Just got back from Seoul, I went to the Sky Club recommended by Event.

They play in this huge stadium (with grandstands) with 10 courts with green Yonex mats like the pros and specialised lighting and they can play all day! The only limiting thing is that the club runs out of shuttles after 2-3 hours and then if you still want to play you need to use your own.

I had a really great time and played nearly every day for 3 weeks, the timing of my shots is so beautiful now, but I'm afraid once I'm back to my usual once a week game, it will disappear again :crying:

And I really should have had some coaching. They have a full time coach there every day and individual lessons cost £50 a month. That's the hourly rate in London! Oh well, maybe I'll go for a longer holiday next time.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all the advice.

Cheers

David

It was easier this time.
I joined the group at the Ahyun school on Tue, Wed and Thur evening.

Right now, it's freezing cold in Seoul... and even inside the hall, people were wearing light jackets.

It's amazing that one doesn't sweat a bit even during a tough game.
This is the first time I didn't have to change my T-shirt or wristband even after 3 hours of play

The only problem is thawing your fingers before you play.
You can literally hear them snap as you do finger-flexes :D

The other one is this place (http://www.gssi.or.kr/sports/sports_04_1.asp). It is a dedicated badminton gym with 12 courts. I think you get in with a 3000 or 4000 won fee and it's open from 6 to 11 each day. It's a little far but it's big and you don't have to feel uncomfortable about showing up at a club....but I've never actually played there. I just watched the nationals (최강) there a few years ago. Is my information on times and cost accurate? Are there many good players who play there? Does it tend to get crowded? I'm curious because it is the only dedicated badminton gym I know of in Seoul.

Hello,

Hope it's ok if I put my post in here since I'm asking about badminton in Seoul. I'm actually going to be in Korea for 3 months starting next week for work and will be living in the Bundang area. I was wondering if you knew of any badminton facilities in that area that have showers? Not sure how much time I'm going to have to be able to play, but would love to play when I have the time in order to get some exercise and "relax." Thanks!

Of course. Post away!

I don't know Bundang very well but there are a few clubs on this list (http://www.badmintontimes.com/club2/clubList.jsp?menunum=401&sf=8&sw=%BC%BA%B3%B2%BD%C3%20%BA%D0%B4%E7%B1%B8), if you have a Korean colleague from whom you can solicit some help. A few of them are outdoor courts, though.

The Olympic Club (http://cafe.naver.com/bobc) (#7 on the list at the above link) is possibly your best bet. They play in the Bundang Olympic Sports Centre (http://pt.cans21.net/kosicbd/) near Seohyeon Stn (http://www.smrt.co.kr/Train/Station/Station_info.jsp?station=1855). The same complex has a rink and a pool so they must have showers. The club site has a photo of the gym.

I was wondering if you knew of any badminton facilities in that area that have showers?Another couple of places, which may be a little too far depending on what part of Bundang you're in, might be the Sungnam Sports Complex (about 1km from Moran Station) or the Suji Fitness Park (about 2km from Jukjeon Stn on the other side of Tan Creek and the Gyeongbu Expressway). I think the latter might have a new facility, if the photo on the otherwise useless homepage of one of the clubs that plays there (http://cafe.naver.com/sujianyclub) is any indication. Most of the new badminton gyms that are sprouting up all over the country have showers and cheap admission fees. Anyway, once you find out where you are, PM me and we can get you fixed up.

Thanks for all the info. I'll definitely try and check it out. I'm going to need to do some exercise :).

Hi,
there are many company at bundang-gu recently.
plz inform me of your location in details.
I will introduce some gym but I cannot commit myself either way becourse I don't play there.
also, tell me your grade, it'll be great help to find one.

oh, event already gave you good answer~~

Regarding my grade... I really don't know what to say. In Japan I was put in 2-bu, or I guess the equivalent of "B". Even then the level of play within that grade varies from tournament to tournament. That's the best answer I can give really... Hope that helps.

Read the previous posts, please.
You should find enough current information to look no further :)

Yeah, sorry since the Korea Badminton threads are not that abundant I thought it might be better just posting in here. I'm going to need to find someone to translate that list for me though... Don't think I'll be bringing my badminton gear to work in Sinsadong, but I don't think it'd hurt knowing about any clubs in that area :).

As for Shinsadong, there isn't much, according to the info available online. This list (http://www.badmintontimes.com/club2/clubList.jsp?menunum=401&sf=1&sw=%B0%AD%B3%B2%B1%B8) only includes one(#10) near Shinsa Stn and that is supposedly an indoor gym (although I'm not sure I believe it but I guess one of those green roofs in the photo could be a gym) with 4 courts within Hakdong Park (SE of Shinsa Stn).

There is also one here, #4 on this list (http://www.badmintontimes.com/club2/clubList.jsp?menunum=401&sf=1&sw=%BC%AD%C3%CA%B1%B8). 4 courts at Wonchon Middle School. The school is just south of Banpo Stn.

Hi All,

I am foreign lawyer studying in Seoul. I am want to play badminton on weekend. You know, it is very difficult for me to find some sport hall to play. Therefore, if you know any groups with advance level, please let me know.

I am staying and studying at TLBUniversiy, which the nearest Subway station is Samsong (line number 3). Please give me some information so that i can reach some groups to play together. I am not afraid of traveling due to the distance from my place to the badminton court.

Please feel free to contact me at: Hienlawyer@gmail.com

Thanks in advance.

Tran Hien.

Hi Event,

How are things going with you?

I'm back in Korea for another 3 weeks this December and wanted to ask for your help (again :)).

Last year you very kindly gave me the details for a club in the Dongdaemun area called Sky Club. But the link you gave me from last year is now not working. Could you please give me the link again or find a website for the club? I don't know if I'll be playing there again, but I would like to say hello to the players anyway.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Fear not, however. They seem to be accessible with slightly different URLs.

The club listing is still there but now this is the link (http://www.badmintontimes.com/club2/clubList.jsp?menunum=401&sf=1&sw=%B5%BF%B4%EB%B9%AE%B1%B8). The Sky Club is, obviously, #7.

The link in that club listing for the gymnasium itself is now here (http://www.ddmgongdan.or.kr/life_center/gymnasium/index.php).

Good luck, and let me know if you need any more info.

If you've read the whole thread, then you have the general idea. Beyond that, it's best to wait until you know which part of the city you'll be in and then post again so we can suggest some place close to you. As for finding people who post here in order to play with them, that's trickier. As far as I know, only 3 or so posters to this thread seem to live in Seoul. I seem to post most of the answers in the Korean part of the forum but I have never actually played in Seoul so all I can do is help you find a nearby club, once you know where that is.

beirbang@hotmail.comHi Tanzent, good to hear from you.

Most of the people who check here are looking for a place to play only a few times or otherwise short term. Can you give us some details on which gyms in Yangcheon-gu or Gangseo-gu are the easiest to play at as a drop-in player? As far as I know, the Magok Gym (http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=%EB%A7%88%EA%B3%A1%EC%8B%A4%EB%82%B4&sll=36.557044,127.018158&sspn=4.288644,7.064209&ie=UTF8&hq=%EB%A7%88%EA%B3%A1%EC%8B%A4%EB%82%B4&hnear=&ll=37.573494,126.832609&spn=0.033061,0.055189&z=14&iwloc=A) has an admission fee and 12 courts. Is it easy to get a game if you just drop in there without being the member of a club and without knowing anyone? Where I live, it is easiest to do this at the gyms that have admission fees. Are there any other gyms in your area with a similar system to Magok?

In Korea you already have so many badminton amateur clubs just in your neighborhood. They play in indoor gyms of schools, YMCA, Village Sports Complex, etc. The easiest way to find one for you is to just ask any Korean you know to search on internet for a club in your region (usually in the level of DONG). You may find out the phone number and/or the location and then contact them directly. Usually they play almost 360 days a year in the evening or in the early morning; with registration fee and monthly fee at very reasonable cost. In the club, you can find A, B, C level players and you can play in a friendly manner. Even though you speak English only they will like to play and talk with you guys.

Use search keywords on Naver: 배드민턴 동호회

It is between Nammyeong and Jangsu Elementary Schools. That's just under 3km from the Mok-1-dong office. Apparently the #700 bus to Bucheon takes you the whole way.

As queenmillenia pointed out in the other thread, there are several ways to get a map off your computer and into your hands so that you can show it to people and ask them to point you there. I personally haven't found Seoulites on the street to be particularly good with either maps or with directions and especially when it comes to a gym, you can't expect the average pedestrian to know it. On the other hand, it is extremely difficult for any of us to attempt to give you 3km of walking directions in a city with never-used and rarely-marked street names. I personally haven't been to that part of the city in years and can't give you reliable landmarks.

Also, as queenmillenia pointed out, there are two Hyundae Hyperions and we're not sure which one you're at. Fortunately, my suggestion to you is to take a bus which goes by both of them. I'll therefore repeat my suggestion to take the #700 bus headed for Bucheon. It does a straight shot from both Hyperions to the Gyenam Gym and it comes every 8-12 minutes. To get to the bus stop, go to the Hyperion II, and go across the street from building 205. There should be a GM Daewoo branch of some kind there, along with a Tous les jours bakery, and something called JJ Dragon and a building 103 of a different apartment complex should be behind there. At that bus stop, get on the #700 bus and take it about 3km.

You get off 7 stops later, at a stop called Jeongnang Gogae (Jeongnang Hill). There aren't a lot of landmarks there. In fact, there may be no buildings at all on the side of the street the bus stops at (because of the park the gym is part of) but it is across from building 404 of an apartment complex. You can walk back in the direction the bus came from, past the Sentry Technotown, turn left before building 201 of another apartment complex, and that little alley should take you up to the gym.

Before you go, print out the name of the gym: 계남다목적체육관 and the name of the bus stop: 정랑고개

Let us know how it goes.

Anyway, how's it with Koreans? Do they try to communicate with you in English or body language?
Does the attitude toward a foreigner differ at which Dong you are playing?
I thought Mokdong people are highly educated and have high fever of higher education
and thus happily try to assosciate with foreigners if they have chances.

Thanks,Hi. Are you talking long-term or short term? Many members here have just been in the area a short time and thus have managed to prevail on the hospitality of a local club for a few visits. I've found that works for up to 3 visits but if you are looking for somewhere more permanent, you'll likely need to join a club unless you can find a public facility, i.e. somewhere where the club doesn't pay rent for the courts, as is the case with school gyms. The only places I know of in Seoul are quite far from Yeoksam-dong, but then I don't know Seoul very well. Tanzent might be able to help you better. This place (http://www.youtra.or.kr:9090/suseo/english/english01.jsp), where the Gangnam Club (http://www.kangnamclub.net/map.htm) plays, might be public. It's not that close to Yeoksam either, though. Google Maps (http://maps.google.co.kr/maps?f=d&source=s_q&hl=ko&geocode=&q=%EC%84%9C%EC%9A%B8%EC%8B%9C%EB%A6%BD%EC%88%98%EC %84%9C%EC%B2%AD%EC%86%8C%EB%85%84%EC%88%98%EB%A0%A 8%EA%B4%80&sll=37.483662,127.089307&sspn=0.023225,0.047293&ie=UTF8&cid=8975434466762058340&hq=%EC%84%9C%EC%9A%B8%EC%8B%9C%EB%A6%BD%EC%88%98%E C%84%9C%EC%B2%AD%EC%86%8C%EB%85%84%EC%88%98%EB%A0% A8%EA%B4%80&hnear=&daddr=%EC%84%9C%EC%9A%B8%ED%8A%B9%EB%B3%84%EC%8B%9 C+%EA%B0%95%EB%82%A8%EA%B5%AC+%EC%88%98%EC%84%9C%E B%8F%99+749+%28%EC%84%9C%EC%9A%B8%EC%8B%9C%EB%A6%B D%EC%88%98%EC%84%9C%EC%B2%AD%EC%86%8C%EB%85%84%EC% 88%98%EB%A0%A8%EC%9B%90%29&ll=37.487322,127.066069&spn=0.033031,0.055189&z=14&start=0) might help you.

Another might be here (http://www.kncity.or.kr/sportct/sportct.asp?Org_Num=21), where the Crowbar?/Clover? club (http://cafe.daum.net/uriore) plays. As for English, you are out of luck there. Find someone to help with the info given or work through the Korean yourself or another option might be, since you're looking for public facilities, to visit the Gangnam-gu 'Office' (강남구ì²*). They will have a list of public gyms in the Gangnam area and you should be able to find someone there who speaks English.

I'm interested in knowing what you can find in that area as I have a colleague who will be staying in Yeoksam-dong next week and playing badminton is on the to-do list. Several BC members have mentioned similar wishes, however, and I always end up coaxing them out to the 'burbs, where I know where one can find a game (and a heated gym).

But just incase anyone know or can suggest a place where theres a per visit fee type of thing(no registration or anything, just pay every time we play), like the one below where Tanzent is playing.

Hope anyone knows something like that near seoul or yeoksam(5-10 stations from yeoksam would still be fine).

In any case, there is a gym with a 1500won entrance fee at Suji Fitness park 1.7km from Jukjeon Station. Faster to get there by bus from Gangnam, though, as 1550 and 6800 both get you to within 500m of the gym. Turn right and go over the giant pedestrian overpass and keep going a bit more to get to the gym itself. A little more information is in Korean here (http://sujigu.go.kr/sub.asp?MenuID=s040401_04).

The opening times should be until 10PM, as the Any Club (http://cafe.naver.com/sujianyclub) plays until that time there. No reservations, that I know of. Clubs play there but it is public and has an entry fee so the clubs operate as cliques and they might exclude you and play with themselves if they don't like you or you're not good enough. If the gym is busy, all you can do is get 4 people for a game, play the game, and get off the court. If you're just rallying around and warming up for too long without playing a game, then 4 people who have arranged a game will walk on the court and boot you off. Many gyms, including this one, I think, have a system where 4 people who intend to play a game will stack 4 shuttles beside the net post to signal to those presently playing that they are waiting to use the court. You play, you get off, you find 4 people for another game and stack your shuttles on a court and wait.

No racquets for rent. There is a pro shop on the second floor of the adjacent building where you can buy whatever you need or have a racquet restrung. If you join a club, most of this will be similar except that the club members will fix you up for a game and if it's in a school, there won't be a shop nearby. Instead, one of the club members will likely sell privately to the rest of the club and will always have at least shuttles on hand to sell, with racquets on request, quite often.

is it aound here? That's it. The gym is on the extreme left side of that red box, to the left of the leftmost soccer field. The top left corner of your aerial photo is where you would get off the bus.

which of the green, yellow and blue box is the gym?Correct, the red box is the overpass. The green box is the gym. The website is incorrect. There are more than 5 courts. Used to be 9 now 7 or 8, I think, since they installed washrooms and changing rooms with showers.

Sorry for having too much question, hope you wont be fed up with my quiries.I don't know how it works. There are 3 or 4 public facilities in Gangnam and one thing they all seem to have in common is that the clubs listed that operate within them all meet in the mornings only. Gangnam Club is the same deal, 6-8AM. In situations like this, I am sometimes tempted to just show up at the location in the evening just to see what it's being used for but with one of these places, the Gangnam Sporex, the facility website mentions the same hours for badminton. It doesn't however, have any information on what the gym is being used for in the evening. It seems as if the local schools might be the only option for evenings in the Yeoksam area. Incidentally, I posted some other relevant information here (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?74323-Seoul-Seoul-KangNamGu-YukSamDong-%28Travel-amp-Play%29&p=1240018&viewfull=1#post1240018).

There is the Boramae club, which plays in Daebang Middle School. It's at the top of this list (http://www.badmintontimes.com/club2/clubList.jsp?menunum=401&sf=1&sw=%B5%BF%C0%DB%B1%B8). Sounds like they are only in the mornings, though. #14 on the list plays in Youngdeungpo High School, which is a fair piece to the northeast of you. #8 on the list plays at the Youngdeungpo Middle School next door. Several others are on the other side of SNU station. You might be better off taking the subway and playing in the clubs mentioned in the SNU thread. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Of course.

There's another club in Bundang in Seohyeon Middle School (http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=%EB%8C%80%ED%95%9C%EB%AF%BC%EA%B5%AD+%EA%B2%BD%E A%B8%B0%EB%8F%84+%EC%84%B1%EB%82%A8%EC%8B%9C+%EB%B 6%84%EB%8B%B9%EA%B5%AC+%EC%84%9C%ED%98%841%EB%8F%9 9+%EC%84%9C%ED%98%84%EC%A4%91%ED%95%99%EA%B5%90&aq=0&sll=49.891235,-97.15369&sspn=28.566961,56.513672&ie=UTF8&hq=%EB%8C%80%ED%95%9C%EB%AF%BC%EA%B5%AD+%EA%B2%BD% EA%B8%B0%EB%8F%84+%EC%84%B1%EB%82%A8%EC%8B%9C+%EB% B6%84%EB%8B%B9%EA%B5%AC+%EC%84%9C%ED%98%841%EB%8F% 99+%EC%84%9C%ED%98%84%EC%A4%91%ED%95%99%EA%B5%90&ll=37.383014,127.130313&spn=0.017152,0.027595&z=15). They play in the evenings. If you want somewhere with an admission fee (as opposed to having to join a club in order to pay for the facility), I don't know if the Bundang Olympic Sports Centre (http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Bundang+Olympic+Sports+Centre&aq=&sll=37.383014,127.130313&sspn=0.017152,0.027595&ie=UTF8&hq=Bundang+Olympic+Sports+Centre&hnear=&z=15) is like that or not. Suji Fitness Park (http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=%EC%88%98%EC%A7%80%EC%B2%B4%EC%9C%A1%EA%B3%B5%EC %9B%90&aq=&sll=37.383014,127.130313&sspn=0.017152,0.027595&ie=UTF8&hq=%EC%B2%B4%EC%9C%A1%EA%B3%B5%EC%9B%90&hnear=Suji-gu,+Yongin-si,+Gyeonggi-do,+South+Korea&ll=37.329287,127.099178&spn=0.008582,0.013797&z=16) has an admission fee, though and lots of buses go there from Bundang.
