View Full Version : CCC Badminton Closed Tournament 2007
chris-ccc 08-22-2007, 03:30 PM Greetings members@ccc,
Just about 3 months ago, smashed_1 asked if CCC would hold a tournament like what other clubs in Melbourne do ?
Well, since we now have 70+ members@ccc, it's time to organise such a tournament.
However, we would first start off with a tournament for our members, that is to hold a CCC Badminton Closed Tournament.
We would like to determine who are our Club Champions in the following categories, namely;
Mens Singles
Womens Singles
Mens Doubles
Womens Doubles
Mixed Doubles
Here are some of our tentative plans.
1. All matches will be played according to the rules of BWF, just like the Badminton World Championships 2007 held recently in Malaysia.
2. Draws will be made based on seedings. We already have a platform to work on, that is from our CCC Handicapped Games system.
3. The tournament will be held on a Friday, being our most popular session, some time in September 2007.
4. No entry fees are required, unless members think that we should award expensive trophies to our champions.
So... Let us start discussing this and to prepare for this tournament.
Your suggestions are most welcome.
Cheers...chris@ccc
hkhung 08-22-2007, 03:59 PM I would be interested in men's double and single.
grading
- if we have enough entry in a certain event, there should be grading, rite?
inviting non members
- if we do not have enough entry in one event, could we invite non members (regular casuals) to come.
cheers.
Mikester 08-22-2007, 07:38 PM I am interested but I will be away 14th September for a friend's wedding in adelaide so hopefully the tournament will be held before or after this date.
Blurry D 08-22-2007, 10:48 PM Haha can i join chris?? ehhe

Hi hkhung,
We would like to determine who are our overall Club Champions in this CCC Badminton Closed.
Later, we could have a CCC Badminton Graded Closed.
inviting non members
- if we do not have enough entry in one event, could we invite non members (regular casuals) to come.
And much later, we could have a CCC Badminton Graded Invitation.
At the moment, we want to start off with something small.
Cheers... chris@ccc

OK... we will hold it after that weekend.

Of course you can join. :):):)
hkhung 08-22-2007, 11:24 PM 3. The tournament will be held on a Friday, being our most popular session, some time in September 2007.knowing our member (friday night especially), we would definitely need a month to organize, so there is no way it could be before 14/9.
otherwise the following could happen
- regular casual (the ones who turn up once every 3 weeks or so) turn up on the event of the nite. Surprise! Surprise!
- people who wanna join but was not aware of this due to the "you know it" a) don't come to supper b) don't read the board. Hence serious selling of the event, i would say for the people who don't do a) + b), chris should give them the information verbally at the beginning of the session before they are allowed to play.
that should get people reading the board if everytime they come to the session they need to listen to a speech of 15 mins :)
Hi hkhung,
We would like to determine who are our overall Club Champions in this CCC Badminton Closed.
Later, we could have a CCC Badminton Graded Closed.
since there's no grading. in that case, i think we need to really sell this as an event instead of a competition to encourage to come.
Once again, i would love to be an "co event organizer" and i would start telling all friday nite member verbally about this event.

Hi hkhung,
Thank you for volunteering your service as a "co event organizer".
There is no selling of this event.
This is our CCC Badminton Family Event. It is for our higher skilled members to determine who are our Club Champions for 2007.
We roughly know who are our higher skilled players. But we encourage our lower skilled players to participate for participation sake. :):):)
Remember our CCC motto...
'Participation is the key to the enjoyment of Badminton, not the winning or losing'

to members:
encourage....
that's the hard part. for doubles, you might not have a problem of participation. for singles, i imagine you would need some serious selling.
i also wonder whether it's possible for us to make the format depending on the no of people.
- if there were 6 people/pair for men's single/double, we could play round robin in 2 pools. Then winner of pool play against each other
- if there were 8 people/pair for men's single/double, we could play round robin in 2 pools. Then winner + runner up of pool go through to next round
and in this sense, seed 1 and 2 would not be in the same pool
Furthermore, i think we could decide to have all event on same nite or not once we know how many people are to participate.
let's all discuss this together.
Robbo77 08-26-2007, 04:36 AM This sounds like an excellent idea if all the members turn up. Just wondering about ppl like me, who are not members, just casual visitors?? By saying its a Closed tournament, you probably should clarify that by saying "Members Only" tournament?
Its a good time of year, but I would not run it in September due to two tournaments in that month. October or November is where tournaments disappear for the year and its still ok, before the weather gets too hot!:D

Hi Robbo77,
Thank you for asking for clarification and for suggesting not to have it run in September. :)
Our CCC is a Badminton Club with members, not just a venue to play Badminton like many places.
We look after our members, and our members look after our club. We are like a Family Unit, with the exception of friends and visitors are most welcome/invited to play with us as well. This is because we aim to promote Badminton too. :):):)
We now have 70+ members and we are fortunate that our different members attend our sessions on different days, therefore allowing us to entertain friends and visitors on any particular day.
If CCC were to be just a venue to play Badminton and not a Badminton Club with members, then we would not be able to hold a Closed Tournament.
We have 250+ friends and visitors who have had played with us. And it is not easy to invite back all these 250+ players to join our 70+ members to determine who are the best players who have stepped in with us@ccc. And are we not to allow new friends and visitors to participate in it if they have not attended CCC before ???
So, our Closed Tournament is only for members only. And later, we might organise an Open Tournament, where members, friends and visitors, new or old, are all invited to participate.
But, after saying all the above, we can still find a loophole in our thinking/planning... that is we cannot refuse a player who wants to join CCC just because he/she wants to participate in this Closed Tournament.:confused::confused:
Cheers... chris@ccc
Mikester 08-27-2007, 06:22 PM I would suggest early october because november is when the uni/high school exams are on so those members might not want to participate.

Greetings,
Our junior members@ccc, knowing that they will have no chance when competing against our senior members, have requested that we should have at least 2 categories of events, namely senior and junior.
So, please be informed...
There will be 3 categories of events, namely;
(1) under 12
(2) under 18
(3) 18 and above
And it will be held in October 2007.
Cheers... chris@ccc
