I'm not related to Nintendo or Hudson in anyway, or you might have heard about it but I just wanna share my excitement with all of you :D
after so many years, finally Hudson (a Japanese game company) has realized the potential of us badminton fans by including it in the game <Decasporta> on the increasingly popular Nintendo Wii platform. Similar to the famous "Wii Sports", the game offers 10 challenging sports games, so far only 7 of those have been disclosed including soccer, beach volleyball, basketball, archery, gokart racing, supercross and most importantly (to us anyway)- badminton. I can't wait for the title to come out in Winter 2007!!!
here below are the screenshots extracted from the official website:

dont worry about overheat. already add ventilation fans at rear...:D
if still not enough, place at table-fan to further cool it off.
Wii, plan to buy, just the graphic not up to my liking...:o
i wonder, if want to smash, will the remote take up the speed?
or need to wrap with overgrip, dont want it to fly off.
will it sensor flicking the racquet too?

Hm...it seems to be largely sponsored by Adidas or something...all the apparel and shoes are Adidas. Even look at the shoes for badminton....they are all wearing Adidas Stabil 6 from what I can see in the screenshots. Same shoes I wear....no Yonex to be seen. That is ironic because the Stabil shoes are marketed as squash shoes...all the players in the badminton game are wearing squash shoe lol.

TBH, Wii control is a bit strange. You dont really need to make a big motion, a short sharp movement is far more effective. Almost like they are overestimating the duration of acceleration (or acceleration) somehow.

Okay for everyone who was wondering why adidas.
Its because Hudson used to have sports game that is sponsored by adidas
so thats why they kept it that way and kept it to adidas first hand , and if they ever made a badminton game for ps3 , xbox or anything it will be way different , first of all playing wise , the mashing of buttons than active control... and also xbox or ps3 will be also way different BECAUSE they have different graphic system , for a person like me i have every system thats out and also Wii is made for family like active games and ps3 is for hardcore gamers so is xbox =P hehe. have you guys ever played the Prince of tennis DS game ? it has shitty graphics but its acctually really damn fun to freaing play , since yopu get all the moves and everything :)

Agreed that the graphics are really bad;
In baseball, the players in the field dont have legs;
Of all the 5 free games, Golf is probably the most realistic compared to other games in Wii.

Wii can have good graphics; Metroid Prime 3 for example. It's just that this cartoony mii stuff "fits" with the familiy image. But if the game is good, nobody really cares how many polygons and texture are on the screen. Unless there's slowdown, and bad animation.
liddokun
08-27-2007, 06:18 PM
I think the graphics aren't all that bad...compared to Xbox 360 and Ps3 they're pretty bad...but generally...it's good. I've got a Wii, and the only game I play on a regular basis is Wii sports. When the console first came out, my cousin found out the dates that they would arrive at stores and sweeped up a whole bunch of them, so it was easy for me to get one, cause my cousin would just resell it to me. The rest he sold on craigslist for a profit, because the demand was so high (this was at christmas time in 2006, when people would pay up to US$410 per wii )

Good point. Also the Wiimote itself seems a little too short to replicate all the things you can do with the mass of a full-length badminton racket. Maybe an optional Wiimote "badminton racket" attachment would solve this?
Otherwise, this game is a pretty good idea...though I assume it'd work best with a relatively big TV and a big empty room to move around in. In other words I won't be able to play it in my cramped bedroom. :(

I wondering if this game will be available internationally? You guys know there's certain games that the Japanese only have it in Asian countries. I'm going to wait and make sure that it's available in the US before I get the Wii. If not then I'm going to get the Japanese Wii and get the game.

Not as good as the real thing, but it's a step in the right direction. Badminton is a game of speed, power and finesse. It'll be hard pressed for the developers to match that kinda feel of the game.

according to the gamespot review its going to be like wii sports tennis where you don't control the movement.
For badminton, you simply swung the controller when the shuttle gets near you to keep the rally going. How hard you swing seems to make a difference to how quickly, and in what direction, the shuttle moves. As in Wii Sports Tennis, however, the movement of your players is entirely controlled automatically. http://www.gamespot.com/wii/sports/decasporta/news.html?sid=6179442&om_act=convert&om_clk=newsfeatures&tag=newsfeatures;title;2
But i'm looking forward to seeing how you drop etc

seems to me like a 'cracked' version of Wii tennis with different scenery. I'm much rather hit the real courts and play games for a few hours than play on the Wii. Who know's it might even prove negatively on your real life playing in tersm of technique lol. though I doubt it.
okcorel
02-29-2008, 01:20 PM
The badmintonscreensaver/game design might prove positive useful skill for badminton beginner to learn when you have to hit the four corners of the court to decrease your opponent's stamina. Lower the opponent's stamina
has more chances to win the rallies and I am not sure whether this is in Wii tennis.

hi all, been playing with it for couple of hours. The best 2 sports I found were Badminton and Volleyball. The rest aren't so good.
In Badminton, depending on the type of game preferred (Power, Speed, All Round etc), there are a number of teams that one can choose. There is a Practice mode available to familiarise with the 3 most important techniques in badminton, namely Serve, Clear/Drop and Smash. During gameplay, one can choose to have to have 1 or 3 sets of 5, 11, and 21 points (all based on rally point system). Firstly, depending on the orientation you hold the Wiimote to begin your serving action, you can choose to serve low or high. Secondly, the direction of the shots can be controlled by swinging the Wiimote to either the left or right direction (difficult) and Clear/Drop are controlled by the vertical movements of your wrist. It is very easy to accidentally lifting from the net when one tries to do a net return or Clearing instead of Dropping because it is so sensitive. The jump smashing action is triggered by swinging the Wiimote down as the shuttle turns red in the air (short period of time), there is no need to swing it hard at all to do this, it is one of the easiest move to do. On the other hand, retrieving a smash or driving were difficult, especially when your opponent hits the shuttle to the body. If one misses the "red shuttle" time, the character will perform a slice, which is often quite effective to use against com opponents in the easy and average difficulty.
Thats it for now. Will post more reviews as I play more.

Thank you, manabu. That is an excellent review. Good to hear badminton is one of the two sports you like

Wohoo, the game works on my PAL/European Wii with a wiinja modchip. I haven't even tried the other sports yet, gotta learn to master the badminton first. Trying to swing the wiimote as in real badminton didn't work so well, so I have to try again with manabu's tips :)

puktus: I was told that there is a 3xxmb .iso of the game sharing around the internet that has all menu and descriptions in english. Apprently it is a japanese version with modded language settings. For those of you who owns a mod chip of some kind for the Wii and can not wait until June, this might be a good alternative.
I'm a supporter of illegal copies though.

Downloaded a copy of that. Will try it as soon as I have some time to try it out. Hope it's the one you're talking about so I wouldn't be too lost.

That is ironic because the Stabil shoes are marketed as squash shoes...all the players in the badminton game are wearing squash shoe lol.
um yeh well hudson has a deal with addidas soo they have to use all adidas products where possible, costs adidas loadssss

Found the english patch and it worked great. Now I understand what to do. The game is very simplistic but it's fun to pick up and play.

Here's another Wii game that has a badminton minigame. I do however, disagree with yet another portrayal of badminton as a casual outdoors game played on the beach. The game seems rather too simple and primitive.

Agree! This one looks too casual for just hitting that shuttle over-the-net. Where is the jump-smash? :)

its actually not the same game. deca sports was mad by hudson. summer sports paradise is made by destineer. and it doesnt look like its as good as deca sports either...i mean theyre playing badminton outside on a beach. and tennis style serve where they toss the birdie up before hitting it.

Gamespot hasn't submitted any review yet but players on the forum say that, while some sports have terrible controls, badminton is pretty well done.

Yea it's not too bad. I haven't played much of it tho due to Smash Brothers and Mario Kart being released at the same time as when I got it. But the controls weren't bad, although dropping was a little hard at first. And you never really have to do a full swing for shots. Just a simple flick will do. Other than that, gameplay was good also. Yonex should make a dedicated badminton game for Wii.

Deca Sports Review:
Badminton is fun. It takes time to learn to drop.
Don't like the racing games and figure skiing.
Archery and snowboard are ok.
Basketball and Soccer are nice.
Curling is too long. (my son does not have patient to finish it)
But I think the beach volleyball is best.

Gamespot has recently reviewed the new deca sports game.
It seems that the final version doesnt live up to their expectations from their earlier hands on impressions. Link below:

I've played this game many times, and by now its actually pretty fun.
In the beginning u start to think dat its really bad cuz whoever smashes first basically wins. But da more u play and da better u get, da rallies get longer and more intense. Da only thing dat bothers me is dat whenever u try to net, it sometimes doesnt read ur movement, or reads it as a half-court lift. Besides dat da games pretty fun.
now to find out if da characters really make a difference.

I like Wii badminton eventhough there are some elements of the real game
plays which can not be simulated.
I post two examples of the games played in hard mode on Youtube recently.
Anybody who wonders how the game is like should check it out. :)

I post them but I don't think our admin check them out yet.
The keywords are "wii badminton hard mode"
There are three badminton and two volleyball examples there.
The games are fun and unique but it requires some practice to master the control. I hope Hudson improve the game control and make it even more realistic.

A family member of mine has been seduced by this package. The game is utter crap. Developers have neglected AI level and actual gameplay in favour of cute graphics. It's a marketing trick of course. The diversity of sports and cute graphics are meant to trick impulse buyers. When are we finally going to see a decent wii badminton game? When impulse buyers vastly decline in numbers?
I think we'll have to wait for project Natal.
