Now the world championship is over. The next Big event will be the world junior championship which will be held in New Zealand. Its is reported that 26 countries enteredfor the team event and most of the asia super power badminton nation confirmed their entries.

Countries like China, Indonesia, Thailand , Korea and Malaysia have confirmed their entries.

Who will be the team champion this year? Wow... it could be a close call this time. It could be China, Indonesia, Korea, Japan and even Malaysia. I dont think i write off Singapore and England

Maria Febe Kusumastuti will be there! She is seeded #8 in the Indonesian Challenge next week. Let's see whether she has improved. Hopefully she will get enough good ranking points to be highly seeded in the World Junior Championship... :D

any news whether Saina Nehwal will play the world junior? How about Xing Aiying? Even Wang Lin can still qualify.

These are the few junior who are doing extremely well in the senior tournament who are still qualified to play in the World Junior.

If I were LYB, I will send Wang Lin to NZ! :) Match her up against Saina Nehwal [IND], Lydia Cheah [MAS], and Maria Febe [INA]! That should be cool!

Oh I think Gu Juan of Singapore is also still Under-19... :) All of the names I mentioned are active in BWF tournaments for adults and all are decently ranked in WS...

There is lots of talented player this year. It is difficult to predict who will be the champion.

Boys Single. It will be a tough fight between Chen Long Of China, Tago of Japan and Arif of Malaysia. I have not seen the euro standard so I cant make a prediction.

Girls Single. I favour Maria Febe of Indonesia, Liu Jie of China, Fu Mingtian of Singapore. Shizuka of Japan and Beh of Korea. If China decided tosent Wang Lin . Singapore Xing Aiying and India Saina Nehwal.

Girls double. It should be between Indonesia, China and Korea. Malaysian girls double are not so strong though Goh Lui Ying/ Ng Hui Ling could give the top contender a fight.

Boys double. Malaysian are generally strong in this. China and Indonesia.

Mixed double. Of course our Malaysian favourite Woon Khe Wei and Tan Wee Keong. China and Korea. I think european mixed double are generally strong too. could be anybody game,

is Kenichi Tago still eligible to play? is he still under 19???

without disrespect from european juniors... they are still far from the level of their seniors... I watched the MS Final of the euro junior championships...
and i think that Arif, chen long and tago can easily white wash them...

Badminton: Eighth All-African Junior ChampionshipThree bronze medals for SeychellesDate 8/29/2007 http://www.virtualseychelles.sc/news/getimg.asp?ID=1217THE seven-member Seychelles junior badminton team are to return home on Wednesday with three bronze medals after participating in the Eighth All-Africa Junior Badminton Championship.

The Seychelles team made up of Alisen Camille, Kevin Ghislain, Richie Course, Cynthia Course, Alan Low, Danielle Jupiter and Joel Dubel won the bronze medal of the team event after losing to South Africa in the semifinal.

The South African team eventually won the gold medal following their 3-1 final win over Egypt who beat Mauritius in the other semifinal.

In the ladies’ singles event, Cynthia Course’s march towards the gold medal was stopped in the semifinal and she had to settle for the bronze. South African Shereen Matthews was the ladies’ singles gold medallist.
Seychelles’ third bronze medal was won by the ladies’
doubles pair. Again Course was involved and her partner was Alisen Camille.

It was another South African pair - Jennifer Fry and Candice Mann – who won the ladies’ doubles gold medal.
In fact, South Africa almost made a clean sweep of all the titles in the individual events as Jacob Malielkal won the men's singles title and Reinard Louw teamed up with Jennifer Fry to win the mixed doubles gold.

Jacob Malielkal and Candice Mann settled for the silver medal in the men’s doubles.

The championships were held at the St Joseph College in Gaborone, Botswana.

From Jawapos.co.id, PBSI decided to send Pia Zebadiah and Febby Angguni and there will be some selection among others....Question: If PBSI knows that Pia cheated her age..why did they decide to send ehr anyway???

The limit age is the players who born in 1989, not considered the month.

I don't think Pia will be sent here although she registered born in January 1989.

I just checked: Lius Pongoh, the Head of Achievement Development [Kepala Bidang Pembinaan Prestasi] plans to do forensic tests on Pia. Last time in the Asian Junior Championship, Pia gave all sorts of reasons to avoid the pre-emptive test [performed first by PBSI]. Thus Lius decided not send her... because if she fails the tests done by BWF, that will bring shame to INA. :o

Now... Pia wants to compete at the World Junior Championship... Lius still insist that she do the test before going... :p We shall see what will happen next... ;)

Exactly! This festering age-cheating problem is one of the reasons INA is not producing enough top stars as adults... The good up and coming players who cannot cheat [most probably Chinese Indonesians who are required to have the complete set of Kartu Keluarga, Bukti Kewarganegaraan, K-1, etc.] were eliminated by the age-cheating-players who are 2 or 3 years older [as Juniors]... and never made it to the National Team...

I just got confirmation from PBSI's National Team: Pia passed her forensic test in INA. She will compete at the Junior World Championships. Well, after all the rumors and accusations of Pia cheating her age, I hope she can also pass BWF's age test... ;)

The abscence of Denmark is conspicuous. Not particularly. Only a year ago, Denmark placed a disappointing 13th. Add to that the fact that by skipping the team event and showing up for only the individual events, Denmark's juniors may be able to get the experience of playing at least qualifying rounds at home at the inaugural Denmark Open Super Series. That could be their plan.

Where's the Junior teams of Brazil, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, France, Italy, Spain, Ukraine? Is it a matter of them not having any decent enough Juniors [give 'em the experience anyway, dude... :p] or is it a matter of $$$ [can't raise money for badminton... :o].

Hey, even Mongolia participates, ok... Their country is extremely poor and they don't have decent badminton players... But they go to NZ anyway because they looveee badminton and want to join the biggest Under-19 party event on the planet... ;)

Uhm... BWF, you should be paying attention to these future badminton countries... If they don't have the $$$ maybe you should chip in... ;) Part of your investments for the sport's globalization...

Makes a lot of sense...but if they get more exposure, it will be good for them.I guess they just don't want to waste their time, money and energy.

Makes a lot of sense...but if they get more exposure, it will be good for them.I guess they just don't want to waste their time, money and energy.Considering things like school time missed and limited sponsorship money, some of those juniors might see twice the benefit for half the money in some of the other junior tournaments this fall. In the last 3 months of this year alone, there are 7 junior tournaments: Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, Finland, and Singapore. There are also a pile more satellites and challenges left in the year for the juniors to cut their teeth on.

The good news about having the WJC in New Zealand is that is will be handier and cheaper for the many juniors in Oceania and parts of Asia.

It will also be interesting to see how many nations, like Denmark, will send players to only the individual events. After all, the seniors rarely have such a gruelling schedule of 11 days straight as the Thomas/Uber or Sudirman competitions are always separate from the WC. I guess the Asian Games does something similar but they had draws of 32 while all of the draws at the WJC last year had either 64 or 128 entries after a 5-day team competition! Another date conflict with the WJC team event is the European U17 championships so there is a tiny chance that that could be a deterrent for a country with very young talent.

The data above were taken from the latest PBSI ranking list... I don't know whether they actually will do it by rankings or by selection...

And oops, rank number 22 are actually Over 19... :p Don't count them...

not sure INA's team will be added, I just guess it.

Boy Singles, there are only 2 players (maximum 4 players)
don't know PBSI need to addition or not.
The candidate are : Aditya Arifin, Senatria, M. Nur Rofii, Engga Setiawan or others Djarum's players who their club ready fund them to play in NZ.

Girls Doubles only one Richi/Debby or Richi/Pia, another pair possible Debby/Komala Dewi, Khrissabella/Reni Rosi or Komala Dewi/Reni Rosi.

Why Adi Pratama wrote come from Djarum too ? He moved from Jaya Raya to Djarum ?
Maybe Krisna has info.

Adi Pratama is from Jaya Raya. Always a Jaya Raya kid... And I just heard that Khrisabella-Reni were chosen by PBSI as INA's other Girl's Doubles... due to some strength-rating system...

taken from indopos

Indonesia's team

Boys
1. Nandang Arif (Tangkas)
2. Adi Pratama (Djarum), should be Jaya Raya
3. Wifqi Windarto (Djarum)
4. Afiat Yuris Wirawan (Djarum)
5. Muh. Ulinnuha (Djarum)
6. Rahmat Adianto (Djarum)

Girls
1. Pia Zebadiah (Pelatnas)
2. Febby Angguni (Pelatnas)
3. Richi Dili Puspita (Pelatnas)
4. Maria Febe Kusumastuti (Djarum)
5. Lindaweni Fanestri (Ragunan)
6. Debby Susanto (Ragunan), should be Djarum

Coach
Sigit Budiarto
Marleve Mainaky

I guessed this is for team's event, possible added for individual event especially Girls Double.

Wow, I reckon the Indonesian women will be favourites if there's a women team event. With Pia, Febby and Febe , they should get at least 2 points from anyone (China included) and then there's the asian junior women double champions as well.

I knew Adi Pratama is from Jaya Raya,
Maybe some reporter confused about club initial, Jaya Raya (JAR) Djarum (DJM) and they thought JAR is Jarum.
Or following the current trend a lot of Jaya Raya's players moved to Djarum, from the twin Rintan/Dara Aprilia, Lili Siswanti, Khrisabella, M. Ahsan and Rendra Wijaya.

As my prediction Khrisabella/Reni Rosi were chosen as 2nd GD, this mean Richi will paired again with Debby Susanto. Hopefully they win like in Asian Junior Championships.

Any info about Boy's Single, any addition ?

I think INA girls deserve to be in the semifinals... But to be champ... mmm... difficult... :o:p The Korean and Malaysian girls are good too... And against China... er... maybe the score can be 2-3 in favor of CHN... :o

China is likely to meet Msia in the semi and Indonesia is likely to meet Korea in the Semi. China is the clear favourite for the team event title though Korea or Indonesia could give them a fight.

I think these four teams are close in terms of strength. Malaysia defeated China 3-0 in the Asian Junior last July and I think China vs Malaysia is a toss-up, the match can go either way. China should have the egde in GS and GD whereas Malaysia looks stronger in XD/BD. BS between Chen Long and Arif may be the deciding tie.
I would not write off Japan as they upset Korea in the Asian Junior. They are expected to face China in the quarterfinal and they have an outside chance of taking the match if Tago Kenichi and Fujii Mizuki claim victories in BS and GS and upset China in one of the doubles.

i think Fuiji is overage for this tournament but they have a strong LS in Suzuki who can play single and double but still the chinese looks stronger. I think China still have the edge as they are always better prepare at the world junior than the asian junior.

Err  What's the KOREAN lines-up then :confused:

event
10-12-2007, 02:01 AM
Err What's the KOREAN lines-up thenNo word from the Korean team yet. Most of the Korean juniors are fairly inconsistent. Even within their own teams, the pecking order is so hard to determine. Bae Youn-joo will likely be the choice for singles as she has been the least inconsistent. Although she lost in the R32 in Germany, she did reach the semi-finals last year in Incheon and the QF in Kuala Lumpur. She also won silver in the Cheers Satellite and today she took gold in the high school division of the Korea Games. The two 16-year-olds, Sung Ji-hyun and Aum Hye-won, have created some upsets this year but mostly within their own team, as when Aum beat Choi Hana and Sung beat Bae in Germany. Aum lost in Germany to Aprilia Yuswandari.

Shin Baek-cheol won gold in singles in the Korea Games today but with his success in KL in mixed doubles and his erratic performances in singles (gold in Germany, 1st round exit in KL), he will likely be passed over. Interestingly, Park Sung-min, silver-medallist in Germany, was not chosen to represent Incheon in the Korea Games. The honour went rather to his teammate, Kim Sa-rang. Kim is the one who lost to Tago Kenichi in the KL team competition. Both Kim and Shin lost in the first round in KL while Park and Lee Dong-geun made it to the R16. Kim is having trouble in this week's competition, losing twice to the same unknown player. Either Park or Kim will likely have to go head-to-head with Shin in tomorrow's team final.

In the doubles, look for similarities to the KL lineup. Kim Ki-jung did well in Incheon last year and his pairing with Jung Eui-seok will likely continue. Lee Jung-hwan and Lee Dong-geun might pair up with one of them, too. Kim Da-jung played doubles in KL but he was forced to retire from a match today so he may be injured.

Yoo Hyun-young will likely do double-doubles-duty again, playing with Shin in mixed and either Lee Se-rang or Jung Kyung-eun in girls' doubles.

Thanks for the info.. What happened to Park Sung Min, If i not mistaken this guy did create a couple of upsets before..

Thanks for the info.. What happened to Park Sung Min, If i not mistaken this guy did create a couple of upsets before.. :cool:I wouldn't say anything happened to him. For Incheon, they had a choice between Park and Kim and Kim had done better in domestic tournaments recently. He won a nation-wide tournament in June where Park finished 3rd and then he lost to Park in the final of another one in July. The key may be that, back in June, Park lost to Shin Baek-cheol one day and then Kim beat Shin the next day. Because only one player could represent the city in this week's tournament, they might have trusted Kim to have the best chance of knocking off the favourite, Shin. Park is undefeated in team play this week and he is almost certainly going to Auckland to represent the country. He has been at every tournament to which Korean Juniors have been sent this year. He lost 23-25 in his third game against Takeshita Riichi in KL. He was second in Germany. He beat Vountus and then lost to Chong Wei Feng 25-27 in their third game in Vietnam.

This isn't an officially announced team, but these 15 juniors are going for a 7-day training session starting tomorrow.
Boys:
Jung Eui-seok
Shin Baek-cheol
Kim Sa-rang
Kim Ki-jung
Kim Ki-eung
Park Sung-min
Choi Young-woo
Kang Ji-wook
Girls:
Yoo Hyung-young
Bae Youn-joo
Choi Hye-in
Jung Kyung-eun
Aum Hye-won
Sung Ji-hyun
Lee Se-rang
Notable omissions for the boys are Lee Dong-geun, Lee Jung-hwan, and Kim Da-jung, all of whom played in KL. For the girls, Jang Ye-na(won GD in Germany), Choi Hana(played in Germany and KL), and Ju Eun-ae(played in KL). Back in for the boys are Kim Ki-jung, who won bronze in Incheon, and Kim Ki-eung, who won bronze in BS in Germany. Also, the two names in green are middle school students. They played the Asian U-16s this year and Kang won a gold and a bronze while Choi reached the QF in all 3 events. Choi and Kang might not be going to Auckland. There were no 15-year-olds on the Korean team last year.

The Indian Team most likely to be picked for the World Juniors

Boys - dominace of lads (4) from Gopichand's academy

GuruSai Dutt
Abhimanyu Singh
Oscar Bansal
Arun Nandaluri
Anil Kumar Raju
Sai Praneeth

Indias top junior GuruSai will lead Indias challenge for the Boys with academy mate Sai Praneeth joining him. Abhimanyu Singh and Oscar Bansal(who has a lovely net game) will take positions 2 and 3 in the pegging order.
The Dbls challenge will be lead by A Nandaluri and A K Raju a fast improving and consistent dls combo who shall give us glimpse of the infamous Paes-Bhupathi body slam on the Baddy courts.

Girls - 3 from Prakash Padukone's Academy , 1 from Gopichand's and 2 girls from Maharastra

Arundhathi Pantawane
Ruth Misha
Nithya Sosale
Ashwini Ponnappa
Sikki Reddy
Prajaktha Sawant

Indias most talented junior girls will be in action with Ruth Misha / Arundhathi Pantwane leading the singles challenge with the very talented Sikki Reddy and the only Indian junior girls player with a jump smash Prajaktha Sawanth providing the additional impetus. The Sosale/Ponnappa pair has won every dbls title they have ever participated in the domestic circuit and will take good form into the WC.

Considering that India faces Australia and host NewZealand in their group these youngsters certainly have the oppurtunity to create ripples in an international environ.

"the team has not yet been officialy annouced, the list is only speculative"

I have a question. I realize that Praneeth, Reddy, and Sawant all featured in the recent Asian Under 16s. That wouldn't include Anil Kumar Raju, would it? Is the similarity to the Asian Under-16 mixed doubles champion (and Prajaktha Sawant's partner)'s name Raj Kumar just a coincidence? I realize that Raj Kumar and Anil sound like pretty common names but I just wondered whether it was a seriously alternative spelling. After all, the badminton world has become accustomed to changing names (ie Yulianto Alven --> Yulianto Alvent --> Chandra Yulianto Alvent) and you have actually spelled Prajaktha's name two different ways - Prajaktha Sawant and Prajaktha Sawanth - both of them slightly different from what is on Badminton Asia's results page (http://www.badmintonasia.org/attachment/Results%20of%20Badminton%20Asian%20Youth%2016%20In dividual%20Events-26th%20Aug%202007.xls).

Anil Kumar Raju and Raj Kumar are two different players from the states of AP and Punjab respectively. A.K.Raju and A.Nandaluri are a regular dbls combo playing in the under 19's whereas Raj Kumar plays with Pranav Chopra and the leading dbls pair in the under 16's. The #1 junior dbls pair is GuruSai Dutt and Tarun.K who were beaten in the finals of the recently concluded All India Junior Ranking Tnmt in B'lore by A.K.Raju and A.Nandaluri. Tarun K may be included in the Boys squad instead of Abhimanyu Singh or Oscar Bansal to give the options of 2 good dbls pair but obviously this is at the cost of asking GuruSai to do dbls and singles duty.

As u correctly put the addition and deletions of last names, letters etc to give dbl identities to individual players is a major problem. But the fact that players in the Indian domestic circuit are required to give their BAI player ID's while submitting entries to tournaments is now helping to deter such issues also helping in giving right accurals of ranking points. The two spellings for
P.Sawant is a typo from my side. The actual spelling is PRAJAKTA SAWANT.

FYI - P.Sawant and S.Reddy will be battling for the under16 national crown today. S.Reddy bt P.Sawant in the tourney at B'lore but P.Sawant played 3 finals and was poofed during her match.
Shall update you with the result coz Sai Praneeth is also in action in the boys finals.

It is nice to see India emerge as a badminton power. It's happening on all sides. Winning mixed in the U-16s, senior men pulling off the odd upset, junior Saina Nehwal doing well on the senior circuit. India's junior team had big wins over Germany and Vietnam in Incheon last year. It will be very interesting to see how they do in New Zealand.

It's a formidable looking MAS junior squad and they are certainly capable of winning the Team event!

XD: Tan Wee Kiong/Woon Khe Wei -- this pair should take the crucial first point and is likely to be the pair to win the XD, unless they choke

MS: Mohd Arif Latif -- he is also a reliable MS player and will only be troubled by China (possibly Chen Long?), but, he has a higher chance of winning the match.

WS: Lydia Cheah Li Ya -- also likely to be troubled only by China.

MD: Mak Hee Chun/Lim Khim Wah -- last year's MD semi-finalist will have to win the crucial point against China if the score is at 2-1 (assuming for MAS advantage).

WD: Goh Liu Ying/Ng Hui Lin -- this pair has performed well in recent GPs, beating Yulianti/Richi in the Chinese-Taipei Open. Again, they will face the pressure of winning the match against China if score is at 2-2.

The CHN team & MAS are hot favorites for the team title. Too bad they are scheduled to meet at Semis :crying:
for me, all the 5 ties looks 50-50 (Probably with the exception of WD, the event traditionally stronger for CHN), it won't be happened a 3-1 score in MAS favor again like they did in KL...

Arif Latif is expected to shine in Auckland.
MALAYSIA'S best achievement in the World Junior Championships was winning two gold medals in Melbourne in 1998, and it could be matched if not bettered at this year's tournament in Auckland on Oct 25-Nov 11.
In 1998 Malaysia won the boys' doubles through Chan Chong Ming-Teo Kok Seng while Chong Ming partnered Joanne Quay to clinch the mixed doubles gold.

Malaysia's last gold in the tournament was through Tan Boon Heong-Hoon Thien How in the boys' doubles in 2004.

The Malaysian team have proved what they are capable of by clinching the mixed team and mixed doubles gold in the Asian Junior Championships in Kuala Lumpur in July. The same squad, led by boys' singles Arif Latif, are expected to shine in Auckland.

Arif, who narrowly lost to Chen Long of China in the boys' singles, will be looking for revenge as the two players are likely to face each other in the final in the World Junior Championships.
Besides Arif, Malaysia will have Vountus Indra Mawan, Lim Fang Yang and Teo Kok Siang in the singles.

Expectations are high on Asian Junior champions Tan Wee Kiong-Woon Khe Wei in the mixed doubles as they attempt to emulate Chong Ming-Joanne's success.

Wee Kiong-Khe Wei have ample experience, having played in the Sudirman Cup and the World Championships in August. They should be able to overcome the odds in Auckland where the main opposition is expected to come from compatriots Lim Khim Wah-Ng Hui Lin and China's Qiu Zihan-Lin Shen.

n WORLD No 1 Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and compatriots Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah were unfortunately drawn in the same half in the French Open on Oct 30-Nov 4, and they may meet each other in the semi-finals.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong, who have been top seeded in the French Open, have a relatively easy draw until the semi-finals where they will either meet third seeded world champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia or Tan Fook-Wan Wah.

The Malaysian pair face England's Robert Adcock-Robin Middleton in the first round and are likely to meet Singapore's Hendri Kurniawan-Hendra Wijaya in the second round. Their quarter-final opponents are likely to be former world champions Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen of Denmark.

Should Kien Keat-Boon Heong survive, they are likely to meet China's second seeds Fu Haifeng-Cai Yunin in the final.

Tan Fook-Wan Wah also have a relatively easy first round tie against Germany's Roman Spitko-Michael Fuchs and are likely to play Denmark's temperamental Simon Mollyhus-Anders Kristiansen in the second round before facing Markis-Hendra in the last eight.

In the men's singles, second seed Lee Chong Wei begins with a tricky first round match against Danish veteran Kenneth Jonassen. Chong Wei may face Indonesian Simon Santoso (who beat him in the Macau Open a fortnight ago) in the second round.

Veteran Wong Choong Hann faces a difficult task as he plays South Korea's Park Sung Hwan in the opening match before a likely showdown against World No 1 Lin Dan of China in the second round.

TEAM INA's possible combination against KOR:
Men's Singles: Arif Nandang Saputra -- unlikely to win
Men's Doubles: Wifqi Windarto/Afiat Yuris Wirawan -- possible to get point
Women's Singles: either Pia Zebadiah or Maria Febe -- must get point
Women's Doubles: Richi Puspita Dili/Debby Susanto -- must get point
Mixed Doubles: either Wifqi or Afiat/Richi Puspita Dili -- possible to get point

Before against KOR, INA will meet SIN in Quarter.
INA should be carefull, SIN have Ashton, Fu Ming Tian, Gu Juan, Zhang Bei Wen, Yao Lei. INA beat 3-1 in AJBC, don't know who got the point just knew Febe got 1 point in 3 sets.

I heard Febe and Nandang Arif come from Panorama Club in Solo and coached by Pak Eko Suryanto. How good this coach could create the INA Junior #1 in BS & GS.
Maybe Krisna has info about Panorama Club and this coach, I guessed he is best coach for badminton's kid in Indonesia.

Febe is Solo Girl indeed. But i am not sure about the best coach for kids. Febe is not so dominant when she still in Solo. She improve so much after joined djarum. agree, Febe has good improvement since she joined to Djarum when she was 14 y.o. So do Nandang Arif improved well since joined in Tangkas.
Yes, Fang is the coach who behind her but when before Fang joined to Djarum (2006) Febe already beat Ratih like the link,

Oh ...what happen to the World Juniors Individual Draws ? BWF does not seem to be able to gain people's trust. First, they said postponed the draw from 17 Oct to 19 Oct. Come 19 Oct, the draws still not out. BWF meddling with the draw ?

BWF should be transparent and state explicitly how they decide on the seeds for team events and individual events. For example, on why would is seeded 1st or 2nd or 3rd.

Not a Committee of seeding decides. Haiz ... BWF still far from being a transparent body.

Hmm... looks like Mr Sachdeva has given Ram C Vijay the look in over AK Raju. Ram C Vijay will team up with Ruth MIsha as Indias lead mixed dbls pair.
Aditya Elango has reached 3 semi's and 1 final's in the major tournaments in the domestic circuit and was also a reserve in last year's team
K Tarun as speculated earlier principally a dbls specialist has been selected ahead of A.Singh coz of his decent ability even in the singles game.
The suprise pick is Saurabh Verma - he is ranked below Abhimanyu and Oscar though he has reached the finals at Cochin and semis at B'lore(the last 2 major tourneys in the domestic circuit). Sai Praneeth inspite of taking the under 16's national title last week is also unlucky not to b in the main
squad.

Thulasi is also a suprise pick - the choice would have been between J Shruti / P Naqvi and P Sawanth.

Guess the coaches have kept out most under 16's from the squad with the exception of the talented Sikki Reddy.

Pretty much the usual suspects and the same team which took part in the ABc Cships in KL in July.

(INK)

Basic translation: this article just listed the names of the INA players (in bold) and their coaches, Marleve and Sigit. Furthermore, Mr. Yacob said that INA does not set any targets but just want to prove our worth on the court. The hardest competitor has to be China, he said. ;)

Kejuaraan Dunia Junior: Undian di Grup Empuk http://www.badminton-indonesia.com/images/M_images/printButton.png (http://www.badminton-indonesia.com/index2.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2350&pop=1&page=0&Itemid=1) http://www.badminton-indonesia.com/images/M_images/emailButton.png (http://www.badminton-indonesia.com/index2.php?option=com_content&task=emailform&id=2350&itemid=1)
Written by Tabloid Bola Wednesday, 10 October 2007

Setelah digelar nomor beregu, diteruskan kejuaraan perseorangan. Hanya, undian nomor ini baru akan dilakukan tanggal 17 Oktober nanti. (bhw)

Basically, Lius Pongoh, Head of INA Achievement Development, said that the draw is soft for INA until the quarterfinals and semifinals where INA can meet KOR and CHN... :D I hope the Vietnamese, Scottish, Singaporean, Sri Lankan, Filipino, and the Dutch teams are not reading this article... :p The reporter said that INA should reach the semifinals just like in Incheon, Korea, last year... ;)

I am most delighted with Singapore's bronze medal finish in this World Junior Championships 2007 in Auckland, NZ.

Never had the Singapore juniors achieved such a creditable result by coming in third in a world mixed team even, ahead of mighty Indonesia and Malaysia, whom they just managed to beat with identical scores of 3-2 along the way, before losing to runner-up Korea 1-3 for a place in the final. Last year's champion, Korea succumbed to eventual champion, China 1-3.

Kudos to the Singapore Under-19 team who made Singapore badminton history and every Singaporean badminton fan proud:

Boys

Ashton Chen Yongzhao
Ng Zong Ren
Thng Boon Seong
Derek Wong Zi Liang
Terry Yeo Zhao Jiang

Girls

Fu Mingtian
Gu Juan
Xing Aiying
Yao Lei
Zhang Beiwen

Hopefully our girls and boys will continue to shine in the individual events. :p;):)

They upset Malaysia 3-2 to bag Republic's first team medal at World Junior C'ships

Singapore's young shuttlers ensured their place in the history books yesterday, earning the Republic's first team medal at the 9th World Junior Championships.

They stunned reigning Asian Junior champions Malaysia 3-2 in the play-off for third place at the Trusts Stadium in Waitakere, New Zealand.

Singapore's previous best in the prestigious Under-19 tournament was sixth spot last year.

But things nearly did not turn out as well against last year's bronze medallists.

The Republic had pinned their hopes on Derek Wong winning a crucial third point in the best-of-five format.

In the men's singles, Derek, 18, was pitted against Lim Fan Yang, who had beaten him in straight games in the 2005 Cheers Youth International.

Leading 11-5 in the first game, Derek let his guard down and allowed the Malaysian to claw back and take the game 21-19.

Banking on his superior attacking smashes, the Singaporean composed himself to take the next two games 21-14, 21-19 in a marathon 55-minute match.

Singapore's other points were delivered - as expected - by Gu Juan in the women's singles and Fu Mingtian and Yao Lei in the women's doubles.

Gu Juan easily beat Lydia Cheah 21-13, 21-16, while Mingtian/Yao Lei won 21-18, 21-14 against Ng Hui Lin/Goh Liu Ying.

Gu Juan's variety of strokes around the court gave her an advantage over Lydia, whose main weakness was her lack of mobility.

Mingtian and Yao Lei, despite being singles specialists, were victorious as they knew each other's play well and covered for each other.

Malaysia won the mixed doubles and men's doubles.

Tan Wee Kiong/Woon Khe Wei beat Terry Yeo/Yao Lei 21-18, 22-20.

Lim Kim Wah/Mak Hee Chun beat Terry/Thng Boon Seong 21-12, 21-10.

China and South Korea took the gold and silver respectively in the 27-nation competition, which switched from a biennial to an annual format last year.

In Thursday's qualifying rounds, Singapore beat the Philippines 5-0 and were given a walkover by Sri Lanka.

They upset Indonesia, who finished fourth last year, 3-2 in Friday's quarter-final.

In Saturday's semi-final, the Singaporean shuttlers lost 1-3 to the Koreans (with only Xing Aiying beating Bae Youn Joo 16-21, 21-18, 21-15 in 60m).

Recalling his near-defeat yesterday, Derek said in a telephone interview:

"After losing the first game, I told myself to persevere and fight on. The first 20 minutes were very tiring, so my strategy was to slow things down in the next two games. I managed to control the game, and attacked fiercely when the opportunities came."

Xing Aiying, Zhang Beiwen, Ashton Chen and Ng Zong Ren were the Republic's reserves (during that match against Malaysia).

Jacqueline Lim, the Singapore Badminton Association's chief of high performance and development, said the win augured well for Singapore's future.

She said: "But the team will henceforth be under more pressure to deliver, now that other countries are aware of our capabilities."

The individual events begin tomorrow.

Said Derek: "We've got the day off on Monday but, first, we're going to celebrate this great win with a seafood dinner tonight."

Bronze for Singapore

Singapore's under-19 badminton team beat Malaysia 3-2 to take the bronze medal in the 2007 KLRC World Junior Championships in New Zealand.

The score was level at 2-2 after the mixed doubles, women's singles, men's singles and men's doubles events.

It all came down to the women's doubles and Fu Mingtian and Yao Lei stayed cool to dump Malaysia's Ng Hui Lin and Goh Liu Ying 21-18, 21-14 to clinch the win for the Republic.

Said Jacqueline Lim, Singapore Badminton Association's chief of high performance and development: "At last year's World Juniors, the team finished in sixth spot. Our president, Minister Lim Swee Say, set a semi-final target for the team at the beginning of this year and we have gone a step further by beating Indonesia and now Malaysia to finish third."

In yesterday's final, China beat Korea 3-1.
