:)Hey everyone - just heard that De Anza College is going to have a women's badminton team this year. Anyone have any more information???? Not much on the schools website except to list the coach as someone named Bill Pickthorn???? Anyone know anything about him???? How to try out???? What other schools they play???

Bill is an awesome coach. Definitely my favorite! He has coached from beginners to Olympic level athletes and was Stanford's coach for years. Starting Oct 14th, he will be running a tournament badminton class for the fall quarter on Sundays, 6:00-9:30pm. Have fun and learn lots from him!

Wow! Thanks for the info Keepitup. What level player are you???? How many other coaches have you had??? Now I'm kind of nervous about trying out for the team. The class sounds great!! Is it also at De Anza??? I looked at the class schedule and found a tournament badminton class listed, 13TX, but it starts in September and is at night from 6-8:30. It doesn't say what day so maybe it is a different class.

I don't know if the class you're referring to is a different one from Bill's, but I somehow doubt it. Don't be nervous! Bill loves working with people of all levels, as long as you have an open mind to listen and practice new things. If this helps at all: you'll find out that he can be a goof-ball and a lot of fun. I hope you and others give it a shot!

Wow, am I like the only person here psyched that De Anza is going to have a girls badminton team? Guess I'll be #1 singles!!! I called and found out about the class. It is on Sunday nights from 6 until 9 but doesn't start until October 14. Coach Pickthorn will be in China until then. Anyone can sign up for the class, even if they arnt De Anza students. Wish I new about the class last year cus I would of had a head start when the hs season started:D

Class isn't badminton team.....just regular PE class with the coach. I think it is listed as Tournament Badminton. I saw it on the De Anza website and called the PE office. Team starts in January WooHoo!!!
