The owner should also play, know and understand the game. This way he or she can push the products more and customers will feel comfortable buying tested equipment. I know a good player who is into this business and because of his knowledge in the game, his customers usually buy what he is using.

Highly depends.

Any business can make you rich, if you do it well. Any business can be a nightmare, if you don't. You need to do a lot of research, and ask yourself how much $$$ you can invest, how much time you have, and how much effort you willing to put in. After the whole analysis, you can then make a decision.

Also note that your competition is no longer just in the neighbourhood, it's global thanks to online presence of many retailers. Service is definitely more important cuz you can't always win on price alone. Customer trust is not just a byword, it's so hard to earn trust and takes so little to lose it.
