It's wierd for this Macau Open. There's normally 2 or 3 tournaments in a row for 3 weeks in the same region. Which helps to make long trips to different continent a better value.

Macau Open seems to be a stand alone tournament........ unless u can count the Beijing Test Olympics the next week. hmmmmmmmm

I think CHN will send their best to Macau SAR. This Macau GP Gold got rescheduled from previously January. Agree, the new schedule is really inefficient!

I think CHN will send their best to Macau SAR. I think there is a good chance of this. Politically, China will show support to Macau and HK as they have returned to being part of China.

With Team CHINA pulling out of the Chinese-Taipei GP Gold, they should be all out at the Macau Open GP Gold.

Hmm...its amazing that this GP Gold event attracts most of the top ranked players, esp in MD.

Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun, Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong, Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah, Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan, Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto, Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi, Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae will be there  Some backup pairs like Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan (good), Tantowi Ahmad/Viki Indra Okvana, Devin Lahardi/Lingga Lie will also be there. There's another odd pairing (to make up the number I guess) in Nova Widianto/Mohd Rijal  Djarum is also well-represented as expected by the presence of Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki and Rendra Wijaya/Fran Kurniawan partnering yet again after their brief split. And...Halim Heryanto Ho/Eric Go will be competing there too

IN WD, INA is well represented by Vita Marissa/Lilyana Natsir, Yulianti/Richi Puspita Dili (yes), and Lita Nurlita/Nitya Krishinda. The Djarum pair Meiliana Jauhari/Shendy Puspa is not there

In XD, INA's lineup is not the usual (dunno why ). Nova Widianto is partnering Vita Marissa , while Lilyana Natsir is partnering Mohd Rijal. Hmm....is it because Greysia Polii is still injured and Flandy is not there? Why don't Nova just rest at home? Let Vita/Butet concentrate on WD  Anyway, INA is represented by the backup pair Devin Lahardi/Lita Nurlita and Lingga Lie/Nitya Krishinda. No Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti though, even though both players are there

I actually would like to see Natsir partner with some young guy. Nova is old and cannot keep the pace throughout the whole match, especially when facing strong opponents like Zheng/Gao.

While this is true for the Long Run, I don't think PBSI WILL RISK partnering Butet with someone else until after the Olympics 2008. That's the unfortunate thing because Nova/Butet (despite their inconsistency and well-cited weakness) are the ones who win the important titles so far (two World Championships ).

I agree with you that Pia and Febe are the most likely to be promoted directly into the main draw [usually a 32-player draw for WS]

Imagine if the 8 big clubs in INA are like Ratih and Djarum... [funding their players to get experience]... INA will be a 'model' awesome badminton powerhouse... ;) Sort of like the US in tennis... Bolittieri Tennis Academy funds talented youths until they become good pros [Agassi, Seles, Courrier, Capriati, and Sharapova]...

Mmm, maybe the difference between tennis and badminton is: after they are sufficiently rich, they are on their own... In badminton, the players always need the sparring partners to practice their 'soft' touch aspect... So they probably will always be part of a club. In tennis, the individual athletes can be purely non-club affiliated after they have enough funds...:D

Which hotel will you staying in Macau? And which hotel is near the venue? Normally, I stay at the official hotel of the event. However, I think it's fully booked or maybe blocked by the organizers. Can I book in the official hotel thru the organizers even if I'm not with any of the participating teams? Thanks. I'm considering to go since it's less than 2 hours away from Manila.:)

If I am not mistaken, there were 3 different types of Ranking systems :

I don't think so  This might just be a break to rest Flandy and to let Nova play in MD and XD since he's already there  Either that or Richard wants to let Rijal play because that's his first tourney since the World Championships and he might be itching for actions :p If Rijal/Butet do play well, he might reshuffle Rijal/Greysia AFTER THE OLYMPICS.

Nova/Butet and Flandy/Vita WILL BE PBSI's two XD pairs for the Olympics. No questions or changes.

So, possible XD pairs after Olympics:
1. Mohd Rijal/Greysia Polii -- need more playing hrs, esp against top oppositions.
2. Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti -- they manage to stretch Sudket/Saralee this time round in Taipei (20-22 in the first set), so, a respectable result for them. They will need 1-2 years old GP Golds and occasional SS events to reach top 10 level. But, I have faith in them.
3. Devin Lahardi/Lita Nurlita -- backup pair, but not dependable to win the big titles (see their result in the current Chinese-Taipei Open).

Proposed new pairings:
1. Lingga Lie/Lilyana Natsir -- Lingga has been stagnating since he's split with Yulianti, with no stable partner. Butet should be a good partner for him.
2. Mohd Rijal/Lilyana Natsir -- depends on Macau Open's performance.
3. Lingga Lie/Greysia Polii -- see above.

3. Lingga Lie/Greysia Polii -- see above.

after OG.. i think flandy will retire, and it's better to pair vita with nova again, PBSI can look for new partner for butet cos she's still young enough..

I think Nova will retire too. Remember he will be 30 this coming October.

Nova Widianto (born Klaten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaten), Central Java (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Java); 10 October (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_10) 1977 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977)) is a male badminton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badminton) player from Indonesia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesia) and his tall 179 cm.

Butet will be 23 next year and can last until the Olympics 2012.

For the other young players:
Mohd Rijal/Greysia Polii (22/21)
Nadya Melati (22)
Alamsyah Yunus (22)
Tantowi/Yulianti (21)
Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan (21)
Yulianti/Richi Puspita Dili (21/19)
Nitya Krishinda (20)
Viki Indra Okvana (20)
Tommy Sugiarto (20)
Pia Zebadiah (19, highly suspicious)

Very bad draw. I thought they are going to concentrate in WD since they are temporarily being split with their partner in XD.

It's also a re-match betwen Yulianti/Richi Puspita Dili and Ng Hui Lin/Goh Liu Ying.

Yes..it was 3 sets but INA was leading 17-12 and got defeated by GL/HS.....so I hope that they repeat same thing..........INA WD has a good chance to fight CHN WD...the rest of INA WD ( except Jo/Polii) are not reliable yet.....

I would say..."include Jo Novita/Greysia Polii". They are not even as strong as Vita Marissa/Greysia Polii and the now formidable pairing of Vita Marissa/Lilyana Natsir.

I like GL/HS meet vita/natsir in the opening round,It is just like a challenge for them. They cant look down this pair.Vita/natsir are quite strong, hope GL/HS can handle them again N LYB can find new formula for preventing GREAT WALL breaking down.

I like my chances this time..I think INA WD knows how to beat them.......they need to be more patience to finish the points.....good news is that eitehr GL or Vita or Butet still have a lot of energy and fresher....like to see tough matches for both....edge is still on CHN side but I would love to see upset....

Right from the beginning when I knew that Vita was paired with Lyliana, they would be the WD No. 1 or the dark horse in every tournament...it is only a matter of time...

Although deep down, I am very sure that the INA pair will be able to handle the Chinese pair, my concern is Vita/Lyliana's fitness after playing in two hard tournaments....do they still have the fuel to defeat the mighty Chinese pair?

Vita/Lyliana come in the right time...only a year prior to OG....they still have suffcient tme to perfect their mutual understanding and build up their confidence...At this stage it is not important for them to be No. 1....it is more important for them at this stage to be able to defeat the strongest pair in the WD department...

Vita/Lilyana scalps this year:
1. Wong Pei Tty/Chin Ee Hui (
2. Du Jing/Yu Yang
3. Yang Wei/Zhao Tingting (all right, they are being split now)
4. Kumiko Ogura/Reiko Shiota
5. Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia
6. Lee Kyung Won/Lee Hyo Jung

IF they beat Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing,
that will mean....7 of out the top 11 ranked players

I am very sure they WILL BEAT Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg too...so...that will leave Gao Ling/Huang Sui, Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen, and Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen as the potential scalps. IF Gao/Huang were to lose in Macau, that will leave 2 CHN pairs to beat!

Briefly looking at the draw, the hope for a title still rests on Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan (3) Honestly, I will not expect a title from them in Macau (given the exertion and fatigue factor).

R32 vs Q3 -- possibly a MAS junior pair Teo Kok Siang/Vountus Indra Mawan

R16 vs Chien Yu-Hsun/Lin Yu-Lang or Lim Khim Wah/Mak Hee Chun -- tricky but should be manageable.

QF vs either Hendri Kurniawan Saputra/Hendra Wijaya or Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda (8) or Gan Teik Chai/Lin Woon Fui or Fran Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya -- interesting quarter, but I think Hendri/Hendra would qualify to the QF. Should be also manageable

SF vs either Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong (2) or Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae (5). KKK/TBH should breeze to the QF, while Jung/Lee have a tricky tie against Chew Choon Eng/Hong Chieng Hun in the first round and either Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo or Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki in the second round. JJJ/LYD vs KKK/TBH will be an explosive encounter. It will be another thrilling match in the SF against either of this pair.

F vs either Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun (1) or Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah (4). Both pairs should breeze through to QF where Lee Jae Jin/Hwang Ji Man (7) and Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto (6) are likely to await them. Meanwhile, Choong/Lee have to beat the upcoming INA pair Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan in the first round.

INA's no 3 pair, Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi are unseeded and as always, they get a pretty bad draw  They have a tricky tie against Chan Chong Ming/Hoon Thien How in the first round and then possibly Lee Jae Jin/Hwang Ji Man in the second round for a place in the QF.

Meanwhile, Luluk/Alvent face the MAS upcoming pair Khoo Chung Chiat/Abdul Razif Mohd Latif in the first round and either a qualifer or a Thai pair in the second round. They should fulfill their seeding.

Last time, you can buy a ticket at the door. On semifinal day, tickets were available. This year is a different venue. Don't know how many seats there are.

Does anyone know how the reservations for tickets are handled? I've submitted a reservation form and asked some questions but have no reply yet. It seems like you'd just show up with your ID and hope they have a spot reserved.

It's my first trip to HK and did a last moment shift of my vacation dates to try to attend this. It might be a once in a lifetime thing for my wife and I so we don't want to miss it.

I saw that! It's too late though. My wife's vacation days are set at the beginning of the year and our plane tickets are booked. We were lucky that it only cost us $70 to fly earlier and we had enough luck from HR to allow us to change dates. Otherwise we would have arrived at 10pm on the date the MO finished :(

Macau open starts on October 3 and honestly hotels in Macau are fully booked and expensive...so you can take a boat to macau from Hong Kong side and it costs about US$ 20 to US$ 25

For Macau Open, we do not plan to meet BCers as we have none probably in Macau...I kow me, Fastdrop will be there along with some players.........

Now I think you just pay at the door and it's free seating i.e. first come first served. I went last year (different venue) and that is what happened.

Sounds strange to see a big tournament to have free seating but this is sometimes the organisational aspects you will see. A couple of the tournaments in China were similar to this arrangement. It's a very different experience to those who are always used to buying a ticket and then having the set and row number on the ticket.

I won't be there until Friday so I can't report on the ticketing procedures. If you go on the days of the early rounds, I would be extremely surprised if you were unable to get a ticket.

Blackrose/.....I just called BWF,,,they have confirmed that BAM decided to send Anita ...so I apologize but this information, I got from them ( BWF) but when I talked to BAM ( a lady), she said that Anita did perform well...

I guess they have changed their mind.............
