Taufik Hidayat vs Simon Santoso -- except for his first (and crucial match) against Chen Hong, Taufik is so far untroubled. He should take care of Simon tomorrow.

MEN'S DOUBLES
Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen vs Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya -- the veterans have proven that they still have something up their sleeves. Paaske/Rasmussen have been enjoying a good tourney, beating Fu/Cai and Hwang/Lee in two days. But, Tony/Candra should hold a slight edge over them.

Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto -- Luluk/Alvent's 2nd SS Semi-Final and this is encouraging news for them. However, the World Champion shold prove to be too powerful.

MIXED DOUBLES
Zheng Bo/Gao Ling vs Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl -- should be a breeze for Zheng/Gao

Han Sang Hoon/Lee Hyo Jung vs Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir -- a crucial match for the World Champion. The KOR pair has beaten them once in the Sudirman Cup. Can they do a revenge? I hope they can.

If INA is really dominating MD, then I don't mind a thread being opened about that... :p However, I don't see enough evidence yet to support a claim that INA MD is really dominating today. Compared to our real domination in the mid to late 1990s, today's accomplishments are terrible! :o

I don't think it is a done deal for Lin Dan, not because I am a great LCW fan. LCW has had his reason for failing in the WC. He had beaten Lin Dan in the Sudirman. He then lost to him in the KO but not by a great deal.

If you look at how he disposed of Chen Jin and Ronald in the JO Open, he must be in the hunt. To write him off as you suggested is not showing enough respect for someone who has won the IO. But of course you are entitled to your opinion.

LCW is most dangerous when he is an underdog.

I don't think anyone can tell who will win and who will lose. All the players in the semi finals are possible winners. These players are human beings having mood swings. All of them are good players. We cannot exclude a player simply because he did not perform well the last time. Lin Dan like anyone else is human and can lose. I agree that his performance is quite consistent but we must remember each game is another test. We saw him lost in early rounds in some tournaments. Let's just enjoy each game and may the best man wins.
It's really hard to be an athlete. It's an ungrateful occupation. We adore them in times of triumph and curse them everytime they underperform. Behind the fame and glamour, they carry a great burden of responsibility. WIN, WIN, WIN. It's sad that we always count their shortcomings and have short memories for all the glory they have given.:(

LCW is a high seed player, playing very well. LD is #1 rank and also playing very well. I wouldn't call it an upset, cos' LCW can beat LD even though LD won most of their encounter, and everytime they play, the game was very tough, never been easy for either player. This SF is worthy of a final. I cannot recall how many games end in 2-set, most of them are 3-set and all-out affair. And LCW has beaten LD in Sudirman 07 recently. That is why whoever win, wish they are not burn out facing a TH or SS.

XBall, finally you got it right...the more YOU list LCW as underdog to LD and TH, better to wrire him off, the better CW perform and proven every time. On the other hand, the more you praise him, he bombed, as evidence in TC06, WC06 and WC07...:D:p

Well said,fastdrop. It's not easy to be objective about LCW but I'm glad he now has greater freedom to speak his mind. It can make a big difference to his play attitude. All he has to do is deliver and he will have greater freedom, so the virtuous cycle of freedom and better play will continue to flourish.

I agree. Den XD seems in good form now, beating Xie/Zhang and the Sin pair which eliminated He/Yu. Zheng/Gao could have trouble.

If they can continue to keep their winning rate high for about a year or 2, it can only be called "dominance"!

Some thoughts on the singles semis...

Simon Santoso v Taufik Hidayat
Don't write Simon off quite just yet. It'll be a tougher match than what a lot of people think. Simon has beaten Taufik before. Both players know each other's game very well so it could be quite a tactical battle. Games like these are never easy, especially for the favourite. Both players can be excellent or utter rubbish, so let's see how they feel when they wake up. Prediction: Taufik in 3 games.

Lin Dan v Lee Chong Wei
Neither will be holding back and the crowd is in for a treat. There'll be phases when each player dominates. Expect a long, drawn out strategic energy-sapper, with both coaches having big parts to play in the final result. Lin Dan is in imperious form, his physical and mental games firing on all cylinders. Lee Chong Wei is the dangerous underdog (used very loosely), and moving so quickly and effortlessly around the court. But will the mental game hold up? Prediction: Lin Dan in 3 games.

Tine Rasmussen v Lu Lan
As impressed as I was with Tine's win over Zhang Ning, I was much more so with Lu Lan's fightback from the (almost) dead over Wang Chen. Tine might start to slowly bring back some glory to the European WS game which has relied too much recently on the likes of Pi Hongyan and Xu Huaiwen. This is a good sign indeed. Lu Lan is showing she can step it up and displayed a side of her game I haven't seen before–guts. Both will be on highs coming in but I have a feeling one will falter badly. Prediction: Lu Lan in 2 games.

Jun Jae Yun over Xie Xingfang
The amazing kimchi-powered Jun has piled on surprise after surprise. The most impressive aspect of her win over Yippy yesterday was how she could regroup after a devastating 27-25 1st game loss. And did she ever, dismantling the Hak Mui in style in the following 2 games. Add to this she had to go through qualifying and you have a multi dimensional player that's raising everyone's eyebrows. Very impressive indeed. I like the fact the Xie is going about her business with minimal fuss and peaking perfectly. Her last two opponents, Wong of MAS and Pi of France were dispatched clinically. She didn't let them stretch her to rubbers which she might have been vulnerable to. I think the fatigue factor will come into play. Prediction: Xie in 2 games.

not true. everyone are entitle to make their own predictions. as long as it is done in a polite, rational, and reasonable way, it is not showing any disrespect.

here are some examples of the difference between respectful and disrespectful:

respectful: "Player A can beat player B because player A has shown that he/she has beaten player B before and has won previous XYZ large tournaments."

disrespectful: "Player A will kick player B out the tournament because player B is from country X and there are too many player from country X."

disrespectful: "Player A will kick player B out the tournament because player B is from country X and there are too many player from country X."

I have noticed an increasing amount of these type of comments which has caused quite a bit of friction among BC members. There are also often macho but unsubstantiated boasts which I think is pretty useless and needs to be toned down a little. Last but not least, let's not be rude, not get personal, or pass unsavoury comments in our native languages (whatever that may be). I'm glad to see the majority on BC have good common sense and know where the limits are.

Yes, Indonesia has done well in World Championship and so far so good in Japan Open but domination? Please, China is still the King and Queen of consistency! Yes, the mid 90s belong to Indonesia, no doubt.

INA will have to do more to get back to his glory days...not easy but it seems that they are on right track......
For dominating, it is still far for INA MD..we have to prove by winning more titles in future....we still have more WS and WD to take care of....;);)
