first one is Golden Gate Badminton Club in Menlo Park, California, USA.
second one is Smash City Badminton Club in Milpitas, California, USA.
I dare not post pics of our local gyms in Malaysia. It will definately look like a gym 30 yrs ago. But then not nessesary the best gyms will produce the best players.

wilfredlgf 09-14-2007, 11:45 AM Been to the Balakong Stadium, ants? It looked just like kwun's except it's 8 courts on end with three private ones adjacent.
Pete LSD 09-14-2007, 11:46 AM GGBC's new lights are nice! They almost point horizontally.
ctjcad 09-14-2007, 11:50 AM ..first couple ones are pics from SGVBC (San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club, full-time local badminton club in L.A. County area)-pics courtesy of Viper2005 & DinkAlot;)

I will post some from Ottawa next week.
drifit 09-14-2007, 11:58 AM the last few photos, is that a raise-floor?
Been to the Balakong Stadium, ants? It looked just like kwun's except it's 8 courts on end with three private ones adjacent.
Balakong stadium? Hmmm not yet. But there is one club coming up there. I know the owner.
Drifit- Of course m proud of Malaysia. I was born and raised in Malaysia. And hope to die in Malaysia as well. Since you play in many courts.. let you have the honor to take pics and post it up here.
ctjcad 09-14-2007, 12:10 PM the last few photos, is that a raise-floor?
..if so, yes, but slightly...I believe all the pics above, incl. those from kwun, with the nicer floor mats, are somewhat "raised"..You can read all about it in the thread link i've provided above..;)
chris-ccc 09-14-2007, 12:29 PM Hi everyone, post a photo of your local badminton gym where you play badminton. let's see how all the different badminton venues look like.
Here is our venue@CCC Badminton, Melbourne, Australia.

4 Courts.
Many lines, because it's a multi-purpose gym, but we are used to the lines... so, no problems at all.
It's rubberised floor, so it's not slippery... and we love it there. :):):)
Cheers... chris@ccc
drifit 09-14-2007, 12:42 PM Chris,
it is a nice lovely place to play badminton. clean and tidy. as for many lines, can i do some line call cheating.... bad drifit, bad drifit

..thanks for sharing the pics with us!!..But yeah, many2 lines..:p:D;)
i think we are too spoiled here. almost every gym i have played before coming to California have lines all over the place like ccc's gym. sometimes we have thicker line because they think the basketball lines and decorations are more important. sometimes there are no lines at all!
DinkAlot 09-14-2007, 04:59 PM Thanks for posting Chris, saved me some time.
Yes, I believe we are lucky in Cali.
Awaiting Jerry to post some nice Netherland courts.
And maybe Yan-Yan with some Danish courts.
What about France? Spain? England? I'm sure you gals n' guys have nice courts too.
Singapore? South America? What about more placeds Down Under?
This is an interesting and fun post. :D

Oh man, those multi-lines at CCC remind me of the Arcadia High School gym. But CCC is much nicer. :D
malayali 09-14-2007, 05:12 PM One of Dallas' badminton clubs.
martin8768 09-14-2007, 05:24 PM wow the place kwun plays at is soo nice omg! mine is just my high school's gym with 4 courts, their nice wood floors that were resurfaced just last year. if i get the chance i will take pictures, we need new net xD though are were 10+ years old

..and i believe most of the badminton gyms and places to play, even here in the U.S., are still using regular wood floors-ala multi-purpose gyms/halls. And yes, some of them do need to get resurfaced every so often:p..Only those full-time baddie clubs can afford the nicer mats;)...But even w/wooden floors, we'll still taken 'em..:D:cool:
sometimes there are no lines at all!
..heh?? NO LINES at all!!..........:p...
Thanks for posting Chris, saved me some time.
..feel free to add a few more, i did as little as i can..:p:)

yah i wish i could try out those green mats, has anyone played on wood and mats and noticed a difference? they must be better if badminton clubs use them and pros
llpjlau 09-14-2007, 08:26 PM What about more placeds Down Under?
This is an interesting and fun post. :D
i will post some pics (hopefully) from some places in Western Australia. im off badminton for the time being though. so that would take a while, probably 2/3 weeks.
azabaz_ipoh 09-14-2007, 09:04 PM i am nowhere near the badminton court too since it is fasting month. later, i think, i will take a picture of the hall where i play. the other courts pictured here are so modern looking and looks very nice. :)
AChan 09-14-2007, 09:09 PM Badminton in HK is very popular now, many students have their own private coaches or join badminton clubs. If they play better, they have higher chance to enter famous school. There are 78 gyms equipped with badminton courts run by government. It is extremely difficult to book courts of rush hour. Some ppl need to queue up one hour before the counter open i.e. 6am in order to secure their preference courts. One of a crazy job in HK is to help ppl to book courts. There were generally ranged from 4 to 12 courts in each gym. Apart from the gyms at school, large corporation or at govt municipal complex, badminton courts are also available at some new estates. Having a nice gym is one of a selection criteria for ppl to buy new flat.
Here are the multi-purpose gym in HK, the first 2 pics is Choi Hung Road Sport Centre, it uses plastic floor, while the third pic is Lai King Sport Centre which uses wood floor.
450450 09-14-2007, 09:10 PM I'll post some from Western Australia too. Our biggest badminton venue in WA is Kingsway International Sports Stadium, Madeley http://www.badmintonwa.org.au
The Stadium has 10 dedicated badminton courts with only badminton lines. I will post some pictures tomorrow. Unfortunately our local council will turn the Stadium into a multi sports centre next year... So there will be new lines and other sports like Net ball, soccer others coming. Badminton sessions will be cut down!

yeah, you get a little sluggish during the day but Ramadhan is all about slowing down and having your patience tested and reconfirming your faith. the month of religious pursuits.
i dont know if they stop training. i dont think so since athletes never really stop training. maybe they stop doing the high intensity training and focus on skills training. who knows any coach? you can ask them. which in turns makes me wonder how are muslim players playing in Japan Open. do they start playing after the breaking of fast? interesting question.
sorry out of topic. ignore this. :D

Yea mate!! the lines can be so confusing at times!!! There are 2 sidelines at some courts as some of it are from basketball!
I will post up where i usually play soon!!!
AChan 09-15-2007, 08:55 AM Is there a tournament? It seems there is many people.

AChan 09-16-2007, 02:19 AM shreky, any other gym photo apart from school?
malayali 09-16-2007, 03:05 PM Yes, they are skylights but the glares are reduced by making the skylights slanting at an angle.

That's Master LB with a a pretty chick as partner :D:)!
shreky 09-16-2007, 08:26 PM the courts are very close, and i don't like the area filled with grey color.
the problem in nyc (like anything else in the city) is space. that's why the courts are packed together. sometimes when you jump for a cross court smash, you wind up on the adjacent court. there are also tons of people playing. this means no singles game .... all doubles. maybe if you come early or stay late then singles maybe okay .... but there are only a few places to play here and almost everything are the same .... so not really have any options .... well .... move to cali would be nice.
shreky 09-16-2007, 08:28 PM shreky, any other gym photo apart from school?
AChan my friend, please check the photo gallery in the website below. there are more pictures .... enjoy. i just stole the 2 pictures i posted from the website below.

you mean that, LB = coach lazzybuddy?
now, i noticed that the net post is shared among side-by-side courts....:D
DivingBirdie 09-16-2007, 11:59 PM WOW. i really envy you guys for playing in such magnificent courts.
it's mostly wooden or tiled floorings that i play in singapore. Courts in Singapore can be divided into some categories.
Community Centres (CCs by People's Association),
Sports Halls (owned by singapore sports council) and
SAFRA (Singapore Armed Forces Reservists' Association, but you can actually sign up to be a member even if you're not in SAF)
Some players also train in Singapore Badminton Hall.
Usually, CCs look the worst, have least courts(usually multi purpose) and have tiled/wooden floorings. Sports halls are usually wooden floored, have more courts. Safra mostly have pretty good looking courts with non-slip floors. Problems of wind might be present in Singapore badminton hall and large sports hall. CCs usually doesn't have this problem but it's really poorly ventilated.
These are pics...not taken by me.(would be great if u guys share some real pics taken by yourselves.

event 09-18-2007, 07:29 AM I've posted some of this gym elsewhere but this is the main gym in my city. It is only for badminton and has 10 courts. Several similar facilities have sprouted up all over the country, some with only 6 courts, others with 12 (Seoul and Cheongju) and even 16 (Jeonju).

event 09-18-2007, 07:35 AM There are only two places in town with mats. One is Kyunghee University, from which Han Sang-hoon graduated last winter. There are six courts there, one with extra mats. The other is Samsung, where Han, Lee YD, Jung JS, Park TS, etc. all play now. It is a wooden floor and even for a national high school tournament only one of the 7 courts is matted (you can barely see the corner of it in this photo). Both facilities have clubs of recreational players who play there every other evening.
event 09-18-2007, 07:39 AM The first is where I used to play. Very old. Built before '88 Olympics as a practice gym for handball. You can just see the bottom of the peaked roof. The centre of the peak is barely high enough to allow a decent end-to-end clear. Lifts and underhand serves regularly hit the roof. It is also as cold as the dickens.
The second is a local school to which the city's biggest club later moved. Also six courts in a row and slightly better insulated but the floor was like an ice rink. I only played there once.
chris-ccc 09-18-2007, 07:44 AM I've posted some of this gym elsewhere but this is the main gym in my city. It is only for badminton and has 10 courts. Several similar facilities have sprouted up all over the country, some with only 6 courts, others with 12 (Seoul and Cheongju) and even 16 (Jeonju).
Hi event,
Thank you for your photos. :):):)
What also impressed me is that you Korean players are all suitably dressed for Badminton.
Cheers... chris@ccc
event 09-18-2007, 07:47 AM Nearest where I live, we have two badminton tents. They have 5 courts each but the walls are thin and the half-pipe-shaped roof is nylon. They both used to have dirt floors but one of them (last 3 photos) recently got a concrete floor with a urethane covering that is great for traction but there is so much traction that between that and the no-give concrete underneath, everyone is complaining of sore knees.
event 09-18-2007, 07:52 AM Hi event,
Thank you for your photos. :):):)
What also impressed me is that you Korean players are all suitably dressed for Badminton.
Cheers... chris@cccWell, some of those photos are from tournaments but it's true that you see more badminton brands than anything else here. It's basically easier to find coolmax stuff made by Yonex than by any non-badminton brands. The only exception to that rule is hiking attire, which is also very popular as there are so many local brands that make it significantly cheaper. Also, as you can see from the last few photos, the total absence of heating and insulation in virtually any gyms here creates a demand for fleece and other stuff that is easier to find in hiking stores.
shreky 09-18-2007, 08:07 PM hi event. is badminton popular in korea? is it the #1 sport in the country? i'm not sure how it compares with soccer. just curios.
event 09-18-2007, 11:24 PM Actually, there is a whole other thread on that topic (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23123), to which I and many others have posted. I could be nice and repost my answer, but no time right now.

I've been to VRC once. The place is pretty nice. Open 24 hrs for members and when you pay the entry fee, it's good for 24 hrs.
When I was there, it was at the end of December beginning of January so the place was cold like hell.

Pete LSD 09-20-2007, 03:33 PM Green wooden court color + another color other than white for the lines should be great.
Pete LSD 09-20-2007, 03:35 PM The VRC lights point downward too. :( As one gets near the edge of the court, one pass through the transition from even lighting to uneven lighting: blind spot.

bad_fanatic 09-20-2007, 03:47 PM VRC has heater, but when I was there, they forgot to turn it on. So everyone was shivering as they were playing.
I feel sorry for the goose, no wonder they migrate.:D
That's why we have to use 79 grains birds during winter - talk about frozen goose :D.
Growler 09-20-2007, 04:08 PM Yeah they have heaters, but some people seem to be cold all the time and some seem to be hot all the time.
I've turned on the heaters at the court where I'm playing at times, because I think it's too cold. But then the people playing on the next court tell me "Hey! It's too warm! Could you please turn the heater off?"
I'm like ! I'm in thick sweats, and I can still feel the cold seeping into me. They're in thin t-shirts and shorts, and are sweating like... well, [oink! oink!] :D
Yeesh!

chris-ccc 10-08-2007, 12:27 PM Greetings,
Just received photos of the Badminton venue at Beijing for the Olympics 2008.
http://images.beijing2008.cn/20071008/Img214172602.jpg
Some info about the venue...
Building area of 24,383 sq m, the Gymnasium has seating capacity for 7,500. The gymnasium includes a competition hall and a warm-up hall.
http://images.beijing2008.cn/20071008/Img214172603.jpg
A world record in suspension dome structures
The Gymnasium boasts the world's largest prestressed suspension dome ceiling 93 m in diameter. Also, the steel used in producing the structure weighs less than 1,200 tons, averaging 60 kg per sq m.
Advanced ventilation and air conditioning system
Both badminton and rhythmic gymnastics have strict requirements for wind speed during competition. Particularly for badminton, the International Badminton Federation's (IBF) standard is a constant room temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, with the wind speed no higher than 0.2 m/s. The Gymnasium can do better than that: it can match the IBF wind speed standard and also keep the room temperature constant at 25 degrees Celsius.
http://images.beijing2008.cn/20071008/Img214172604.jpg
Underneath every other seat, there are three vents 13 cm in diameter – a total of 9,100 vents are located throughout the gymnasium.
http://images.beijing2008.cn/20071008/Img214172605.jpg
Following the Games next August, the Gymnasium will remain an important cultural legacy of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. It will become a landmark building on the school's campus as well as for Beijing's southeastern area.
The Gymnasium will serve both the school and society: it will serve as the school's activity center, as a recreation center for the neighboring residents, and as a training base for the national badminton team.
Relevant statistics:
Gymnasium land area: 6,6124 sq m
Building area: 24,383 sq m
Competition area: 1,500 sq m (approx.)
Games-time seating: 7,508 seats(5,767 permanent; 1,741 temporary)
Building height: Competition Hall 25.9 m; Warm-up Hall 15.5 m
Building floors: Floors above-ground: 4; Floors below-ground: 1
Parking spots: 243

azabaz_ipoh 10-26-2007, 11:59 PM always a pleasure. you are welcome to come and play in ipoh. though i suspect the picture looks more promising than the actual premise. hehehehe :D the only problem would be the booking. some groups make advance booking for like three or six months and so sometimes there are no available court.

Btw, maybe i'll embarrass myself, but that's not you is it in the 2nd pic, wearing somekind of purple headscarf (kerudung)??..:p
azabaz_ipoh 10-28-2007, 08:59 PM ..so this is where you play baddy, all this time, ms. azabah_ipoh...Very nice place and courts indeed, with plenty of spaces in between courts and nice lighting! Thanks for sharing:)..I assume, by looking at the pics, there are 16 courts total (8 on each side)?? well yes, mr ctjcad :). the courts are nice but i would love to try the blue courts i have seen here and i do believe that some other places posted here are way nicer than this place :). plenty of space? i agree fully. nice lighting? i beg to differ. hehehehehe. because the lighting sucks sometimes. they use flourescent lights. and sometimes some of the lights are not working and the maintenance take like forever to replace them. even after repeated complains. ah well, everything has it's pros and cons. good deduction, mr watson. there are a total of 16 courts in all. :D the hall's floor is concrete i think. and the green rubbery thingy is glued on the floor i think. some courts have better cushion and are more comfortable. others have cracked a bit here and there. i guess they have to wait for a budget before they could re-green thingy the surface of the cracked ones. hahahaaha. a ha.....alas mr watson, you made an understandable error there. it is not me on the court because i am behind the camera. plus, i dont wear kerudung and i am bigger than the woman you mentioned. :) i wish there was someone else who could take some pictures of me while i'm playing so that i could see if i execute those shots properly. :o
ctjcad 10-29-2007, 01:29 AM good deduction, mr watson. there are a total of 16 courts in all. :D the hall's floor is concrete i think. and the green rubbery thingy is glued on the floor i think. some courts have better cushion and are more comfortable. others have cracked a bit here and there. i guess they have to wait for a budget before they could re-green thingy the surface of the cracked ones.
..mr. watson??..:p:D;)..Hmm, sorry for asking, but about the green rubbery "thingy" you mentioned, i assume those are court mats?? Or another material painted in green? Because you said they have to "re-green thingy the surface of the cracked ones".....Thanks again for sharing a bit more infos:cool:
azabaz_ipoh 10-29-2007, 01:47 AM yeah, i think it is some sort of court mat. but the thing is, they are not the size of one court. one big section might cover like 4 courts. i dont know how to explain it. i think court mats are usually one court size right? this green rubbery thingy, well it looks like they can come in whatever size you need. i think. i dont know for sure. sorry. i know, how about coming down to ipoh to experience the green rubbery thingy first hand? :D or maybe i could take close up pictures of where the green thingy starts and the concrete ends. hmmmmm......that's doable i think. i have badminton today. i'll try and take some more pics. :)

..(on the previous page's pics) there are mat creases/grooves/reveal lines around court #16..and perhaps on the adjacent court(s)??.;)
azabaz_ipoh 10-29-2007, 08:33 PM good observation. yeah, there is a line. the mat is the size of one court. my mistake. here is the close up view of that green rubbery thingy :D

when will i get invitation to play with you at this nice hall....:D:D:D<= green thingy too
azabaz_ipoh 10-29-2007, 11:59 PM hahahaha :D you are welcomed to come down to ipoh anytime but since i am playing with a group of women, you might not get the chance to play. hehehehe. :0
ctjcad 10-30-2007, 01:46 AM good observation. yeah, there is a line. the mat is the size of one court. my mistake. here is the close up view of that green rubbery thingy :D
..thanks for taking a close-up pic of the court..:)..The mat, for some reason to my eyes, looks quite thick; unlike those floor mats that are often used in BWF tourneys; i would imagine the feeling, when playing on them, is quite "cushiony"?!..:cool:
azabaz_ipoh 10-30-2007, 02:22 AM yeah, it is pretty thick. but the middle courts, not so thick. it looks rubbery but not bouncy. i guess it is pretty cushiony, not sure since i dont jump smash a lot so seldom test it's cushiony properties. hehehehe :D the condition of the green thingy is not that new. it is pretty worn on some areas.

'balls' always roll onto the badminton courts. We had to constantly call a let.
They probably dont care about flattened balls, they have a mountain of balls O_o. They only play once a while though, so we usually get to occupy all the courts.

What if the badminton shuttlecock flies onto the table tennis table? Would that also be "Table Badminton" ? :)
450450 01-21-2008, 07:26 PM i use to play on thursday at my local recreation centre. there was table tennis occupying two badminton courts (long vertical). one from one of table tennis bounced on to our court and i hit it back with my racket.
the table tennis ball was so light and i applied too much force and the ball bounced everywhere! OOPPPPPS the ball hit the wall and it bounced back to our court and then next thing you know... everyone started to hit the table tennis ball around the court!!
basket ballers can be a tad annoying too. especially when they occupy half court and your playing on the other half court.
all these hall pictures are inspiring me to construct my own badminton court in my backyard. i'm going to check with my local council to see what the maximum ceiling height is.

No no no no no, he's the evil coach :P.
Coach Basri Yusuf showed us a attack-and-defend drill.. he made all our coaches do consequtive jump smashes against him.. wow, he amazed us..
He was like a wall. The 'evil coach', aka 'dean' did about 36 in a row.. then our other coach 'peter' did about 33 in a row.. then our other coach did only 12 in a row.. embarassing :D.. He tired out, so he just did a drop to end the rally.. :o
Since the coach was sponsored by Ashaway, he brought some new ashaway models for 2008.. new shoes, new racquets, new bags, new grips, etc..
There was a racquet with really funny grommets. There were creases around the frame where the MP grommets would usually be. The string went around the frame instead of going through the grommets. I had never seen a racquet like that before. I also tested out a racquet with pg66neon strings and I fell in love with those strings..
azabaz_ipoh 03-25-2008, 03:50 AM ashaway string are quite good. :D
llpjlau 03-25-2008, 07:58 AM they may be quite good but definitely not as good as Yonex ones. the MicroPower and MicroLegend don't match up to BG-80.

Yes, IMHO BLUE mats are much cooler than GREEN mats.
We find more tranquillity/serenity in BLUE colour.:cool::cool:

jhirata 05-08-2008, 01:10 AM I love those mats because they're grippier, it provides a little bit more cushion, and it looks better.. but they are rolled away when the tournaments are not on.. :(
always a pleasure. you are welcome to come and play in ipoh. though i suspect the picture looks more promising than the actual premise. hehehehe :D the only problem would be the booking. some groups make advance booking for like three or six months and so sometimes there are no available court.
Salam Azabaz,
Appreciate if you could advise DBI phone number for court bookings.
Tks
azabaz_ipoh 08-01-2008, 02:56 AM hmmm....as far as i know hamz, people always book the courts by going to the hall itself. there's a counter in front. however the booking only commence on the first sunday (if i am not mistaken. please forgive if i am because i am not in charge of booking in my group) every month. people will line up and book the court that they want for the whole month. but maybe sometimes there's free courts available as i have seen unused courts. but saturdays and sundays are usually full. but if you want, you can call this number:
05-2552880
good luck :D
Thanks Azabaz, for the info.

Oh yes indeed.. I took an hour to walk to the courts, in mid-winter in Nara.
By the time I got there, my hands were freezing and I couldn't even hold the racquet properly. My hand was swollen, and it took about an hour for all of us to warm up. So.. at that club, the first hour was basicly a warm-up session.

badwally 11-13-2008, 06:16 PM Great tread. I will try and post some courts I play in Canberra. Also try and dig up some courts I play at from Sydney (Homebush Olympic courts) and Melbourne (Altona) when I get home.
badwally 11-13-2008, 09:07 PM Of all the halls I have seen on this tread I think Djarum looks the best. Somehow it suggest like playing at a board of directors room if you know what I mean. All dark wood panelling and style.

..a professional type badminton venue/training center; and that's only the courts as i believe it is part of a larger training complex. But of course, it's not a surprise considering who & what company actually owns the place.;)
badwally 11-15-2008, 03:45 AM The following pics show one of the place I play at in Canberra Australia. Its called Erindale Active Leisure Centre. Its a multi sports hall with swimming pool, squash, gym and of course badminton hall cum basketball courts.
There are six courts and as you can see there are extra lines for basketball as well. This is one of the better place to play in Canberra. The floors are syntectic rubber and very good on the grip.
badwally 11-15-2008, 04:01 AM Here is another place I play in Canberra called Woden Basket Ball Centre. As you can see its not that great a place. The floor can be slippery and some days we have to share with basketballers  so could be dangerous some times. Quite cold during winter but there are heaters. Unfortunately when the heaters are on it causes drafts.:p
There are eight courts in this hall. At the moment there are only 2 courts setup for my friends and I to play. On Monday night the National club plays here so most of the courts are setup.

I am afraid in Australia all courts are temp courts. We don't have permanent badminton courts. Cannot affort it so must share with other sports. Even in the Olympic stadium in Sydney the badminton nets are not permanent.

Probably, bradmyster was referring the Ken Kay Badminton Centre at Ballarat, near Melbourne, where the 2008 KLRC Australian International was held: click here (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57943)
And that is another venue with permanent Badminton courts.

badwally 02-17-2009, 06:27 PM Here are some pictures of the courts I play at in Sydney.:) There are about 15 courts with synthetic hard rubber floor. Lighting is good except there are two strip of skylight in the middle of the roof which you can lose the birdie on a bright sunny day. Courts are abit close together and there are no partition between row of courts so could be a bit distracting.:(

Dreamzz 02-18-2009, 09:33 AM nice courts, what's the material is the floor made of?
badwally 02-18-2009, 03:34 PM Yes the courts do look nice. Is the lighting ok as the photos look abit dark on the courts. maybe its just the grayish colour of the floor and walls that make it look dark. Not much space to sit or walk though as the courts looks abit squash together.

Here we have my university's badminton courts. We have to share with netball and volleyball teams but the lines are clear and actual courts are top quality, never any slipping and always clean. The roof is never a problem either.
neavalmi0421 05-13-2009, 09:14 PM This is from Whackers Badminton Academy in Victoria, Laguna, Philippines. Southern Part of Manila. Around 80 KM from Manila, 3 hours drive.
8 courts. 4 taralex in red color are suspended by wooden floor.

thanks ctjcad for that as some people were saying in that thread let me clear some stuff up
1. The stands are able to be packed away into the wall it is quite cool
2. The hieght of the roof is huge at least 15 metres high
3. It's not a garage
It has 10 courts a lot of space between them
Any other questions I will happily answer
