Thats what newpapers say..but I believe it is more than visa problems....Chen Hong does not have problem of getting visa..may be because he married A Tawainese...

I think CH will be top seeded, followed by LCW...TH can meet LCW in final if tTH is on CH's draw...as a matter of fact, the draw will be out tonight...thats what they told me.....also it will be several last minute withdrawal...what I got here was around 9.30 am this morning....

I am not qualify to suggest but isn't this too obvious the wrong thing to do, not allowing Taiwan to participate in Olympic 2008 for political reason? You mean to say the Olympic committe knew about this all the time and yet allow China to host? So sad for Olympic :crying:
I was so touch when I saw the South and North Koreans marching in sides by sides even with their huge differences and really anticipate to see Taiwan and China to do the similar thing, I am just too naive.

China refused to come because of the Olympics game. Taiwan already gave China players VISA approvals a week ago, but China is not allowing players to play. It's not Taiwan who is refusing to give VISA to people from China, (ie. Yao-Ming just visited Taiwan recently), but the politics is so sensitive that China had to stop everything related to Taiwan.

All the posters in Taiwan on this Taipei Open are saying that China team will come this year and it's going to be a great event. Well, now it's too late to change them and there will be problems on those soon because people will be disappointed!

..this kind of reminds me a bit of the recent last minute withdrawal, from the THA squad, in the World Championships..
..but boy, if that's really the main issue, esp. if it's just over a sporting event, then we probably know which side will be blushing--:p..Too bad for the Taiwanese fans who are looking forward to this tourney..:p

What do you think they should do...

Ban CHN? So, what will happen to OLY'08 then?

This is just a sad case; politics and sports, but it a common practise. I wonder who loses in the end and who wins too. Just sad.

As far as I know, China never refuses Taiwan's participation in OG 2008. However, there is controversy about Taiwan's status in the game. Taiwanese President Chen insists on not to be labelled as a part of China ; refusing to be in the internal torch route. It's not easy to sort out the differences that has to be dated back to 1949.

Politics n sport shouldn't be mixed together...but sometimes, aiyyyyyyyyyya...this bring disaster to fans n the sport itself.

I m not going to say more bout CHN n Taiwan relationship, though i have follo the trend quite sometimes...

Chn submitted their visa application end of Aug but rejected by Taiwan, n Chn resent on 5/9/07, and were approved by Taiwan on 12/9/07...but by then, Chn had made the decision to withdraw...

wat a sad ending...

Lee Chong Wei is first and foremost a Malaysian, presenting the country of Malaysia. Ask him if he cares about Team China - he'd love to see them lose, preferably in court against him I'd gather!

'Chinese' with the capital C denotes a mainland native to the country of China, while 'chinese' with the small letter denote one from that ethnic origin, possibly sharing the traditions and ancestry (or not), but not necessarily signifying his loyalty to the aforementioned country.

Hence, as much as some of you like to (mistakenly) imply, Lee Chong Wei has no ties with China except perhaps immigration chops on his Malaysian passport as well as records of defeating some of their players in world badminton.

In straight sets. ;)

For China players not able to go Taiwan, the issue is not about the race but the Nationality.

Go read a little about the conflict between China and Taiwan and you will understand.

Chinese from other nationality will have not much of a problem getting to China or Taiwan. Once again, the nationality and not the race.

Regardless of admitting it or not, the best players in the world are almost Chinese. They are Chinese in mainland China, HK, MC, TW, or overseas Chinese in MS, IND, if you know their ancester immigrated from CN many years ago. They do have Chinese names, sometimes with Cantonese format, sometimes with other provincial format.
