Well as the title says, why is everyone jumping off the bandwagon after a mediocre performance in Japan, think about it they just knocked everyone at the World Championships...and oh my gosh they just won 2 events at the Japan open and everyone is all concerned or something. So please tell me why ?

everyone's always like that...
a lot of people dont' cheer for nations or players anymore. they cheer for winners.
since you're a canadian (i'm assuming), you should know exactly what i talk about, when i mention the following: NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Are there really?
As far as I can see, there are those die-hard Chinese supporters who are very much fuelled by nationalism who will not change side regardless. :p
Then there are the Malaysia and Indonesia supporters who I cannot imagine ever supported China anyway as long as their own players are competing.:p
There are the neutrals who just enjoyed watching good badminton, and could not care less who win as long as the game is exciting.:D
So who has jumped boat?

To add to the list by Linus:
There are also romantics who love to see an underdog player/team bring the fight to the powerful Team China and hopefully win.
I'm usually the above if no Malaysians remain in contention.
Who jumped boat? Maybe alot are dissapointed.

Badminton players (in some instances) are fickle. Most live for the moment and have a short term memory and selective long term memory. That is, they only remember what they like. :p

For me, its just a simple theory.. Sports never be healthy with a single nations keeps on dominating...

..those PAWers in BC, some are neutrals (and most likely don't give a hoot on who win, lose, cry, get upset), but only follow the games just for the sake of winning their respected PAW game(s)...:p;)
I know those PAWers are not jumping off of CHN's boat after any mediocre performance..:p;)

i think nobody jumped boats too. just because nobody is talking about china's winning ways does not mean they dont support china anymore. we are pretty loyal, we badminton fans. the only problem is some of the fans like to bash the ones they supposedly support. :D but they stick to them anyway. so the boats still the same. kih kih kih.

some are disappointed cuz chn usually bags more than 2 events! plus, ppl's thinkin is tat .. oh Lin Dan is gonna win, XXF n ZN will definitely make it to finals, Feng Yun will be in finals and win.... and when it does not come true, ppl will start question bout it... don worry.. cuz when the start winning more than 2 events again, ppl will shut up.. automatically.. and start praying what happened in JO '07 to happen again.. and its goes round n round n round never ending... :D tats life.. :D

Sorry you're very wrong, i cheered and have always cheered for 1 team from each conference, Western conference = Canucks and Eastern Conference = Ottawa
Also when i say "people" i mean the zillions of "is china done for?" kinda threads.

It's not a case of ppl jumping off the bandwagon but rather a case of ppl whose players got crushed by china players more often than not just getting their shots in as it doesn't happen very often  I am sure china will rebound after this and it's just one of those once in a blue moon sort of incident...

problem is, no one's really challenging china. and china isn't about to step back. it seems that china's just working harder than everyone else and getting the results. you can't blame them.

I think this title of this thread is misleading....noone is jumping off China's boat....at least 80% of BCers agree that China is still dominating....there is no need to ceate this thread....you can see not many BCers participate in this thread...

Agreed. Imagine how boring it would be if a nation keeps on dominating a sport. What the world wants is a more competitive badminton sport as simple as that.

Make no mistake...CHN still the one to beat...Enjoy the wins in JO07 cos those results are elusive and not gonna happen all the time...Tine Rasmussen, kudos to her for her WS win, her first SS title, enjoy it cos you never know you get another one or that is the one and only one...Tine is 30 (not much time left) and got ko in TO07 to JS...as for CHN, she will be back, make no mistake about that...losing both MS and WS is not a common occurence for CHN....as for OLY08, I hope LCW is not ranked high (but avoid LD and TH till final) and not participate in any tourney close to OLY, that would be the perfect position...as for LD, if he is ranked #1 at OLY, being defending WC, most titles won ever by a player, the pressure to win gold is insane, esp this is the first OLY held by CHN...TH is in the best position, having won OLY, no real pressure to must win gold, being the really dark horse in OLY...

..if at all impossible, *to avoid* LD or Taufik prior to the Final, even if LCW is ranked high or not (just because of the nature of the draw/seeding; unless if either or both LD & TH falters before meeting with LCW)...But hey, if LCW won the title at this yr's JO, then why can't he accomplish the same feat in next yr's OG??..;)

If TH and LD are draw in the same half and LCW in opposite half, then LCW would avoid meeting either of them till the final if LCW gets there???...Just that LCW beat both and by the narrowest of margin against TH, why risk it to repeat this feat and take the hard road, i.e. beat either or both enroute to final of OLY...just win the darn OLY gold and who care who he meets along the way...TH did it in 2004 OLY not meeting the world's best and not meeting LD when LD is ranked #1 in OLY04...years down the road, who care who beat who to win gold, just get the first gold for MAS...after LCW retires, I put on my binocular and MAS line-up is quite depleted, so win it fast, otherwise there is a long wait, who knows when MAS will produce another LCW who can challenge CHN and INA best...LCW missed winning WC07 at home, the next one is 2009, LCW is 27 in 09, maybe one more chance for the first MS gold medal for MAS...after that long and lonely wait...and wait and wait...:p;)

..but only if LCW is ranked either #2, 3, 7 & 8 and LD & TH are ranked #1, 4, 5 & 6 will LCW avoid either of them, prior to the OG;)...I guess WR #2, 3, 7 & 8 will be the lucky #s for LCW next yr, heh??..:)

Well, it happened in recent WC07...and playing at home in MAS...sayang that LCW bombed out, he had a good draw in the lower half and both TH/LD were in the top half...even LCW acknowledged he had a good draw...darn it, now a long wait:(

Hindsight is 20/20...when LCW won JO07 beating the toughest lineup from CJ to LD to TH, and losing to SDK in WC07, of course we can say that...but you are playing Russian Roulette to go through this path again...and the JO07 final against TH can go either way, third game was very close and I am sure MAS fans are biting their nails and holding their breathe, till LCW won and resume breathing, those with faint heart should avoid this match...:D;)

isnt this always the case when one nation dominates the sport
easiet example coming to mind is AUSTRALIA in cricket , they have dominated all formats of ckt (test & one days) and are undisputed world champs for the last 10 ood years. No ckt playing nation has come to the class or play the brand od ckt that the AUS team has managed. Critizied for their ruthless and uncomprising style of play - most cricket followers love to pitch for the team playing against them just for the pure joy of watching the giants fall.
guess a similar sort of feelimg is with most badminton followers who inspite of knowing the fact that the brand of badminton the CHInese play is truly a cut above never miss out to make noise whenever they see the Chinese fail.
eveybody likes a good villian and the chinese dominace is the villain most badminton followers love to hate...
