Good to see her bagging the JO women singles title.
It is good for the sport when an underdog like Tine Rasmussen upset the odds and win.
One thing I like about Denmark is that their players have the right professional attitude and good work ethics.
BAM and Msia should learn from Denmark.

Beating 3 of the top Women Chineese players in one tournament is not a small feat!!

Let's hope she can sustain and that it not was a one-hit wonder :-)

Anyway.. The name "Rasmussen" indicates some pedigree :-)

Definitely Tine belongs to the elite group now. But don't look down on WMC, she is on the way to join the group.

They can also learn from us -- our MS (LCW) and our MDs are better than theirs. And is MC that bad ?

Open your eyes - it might be glaucomatus.:D The grass is always greener on the other side.

Tine Rasmussen is probably the player that the China camp fears the most.

She has great reach, stamina and strength.

Her sideline smashers are simply too strong to return cleanly from other woman players.... And her reach allows weak blocks/net shots into netkill.

XXF, Zhu Lin or Lu Lan simply hope to play keep away (playing angles and 4 corners) from her and hoping Tine loses her balance and makes mistakes.

We need to see more WS play like Tine. Very entertaining and explosive.

Do you know the secret of Tine game ? It's the heel.

She will touch her heel every other point. Must be pressing some button there to make her jump higher and run faster. :)

during SO, tine touched her heels with right hand and wiped her face with left hand.

and she shook hand with her opponent, umpire and service judge with right hand.

i observed this during SO. i was waiting for her to wipe her face with right hand and touch heel with left, but that didnt happened. hehe

i enjoyed watching her play during SO. Someone to look out for in WS :)

Yahlor....I dun know what tension of strings she uses....but when you heard the smash live...it sounded like a gunshot.

During the Semifinals in Singapore Open against Wong Mew Choo the firepower was obvious.:)

WMC is no match for that kind of firepower...she can pick up the smash once a while......but WMC cannot reply the canon with canon....it's like she absorbed the canon bombardment and using her peashooter to reply at Tine.:(

Agree, Firda can be moulded into an Asian Tine. So too can Lydia Cheah. But not WMC, Julia, Maria Kristin and Pia.

To beat Tine, she has to be moved side to side. WMC almost made it in the 2nd game of SG Open semis, but Tine was just too smart.

Yes she has good smashing power and she has strong counter attack too. Definately a medal contender for the coming Olympics. Agreed that Malaysian Single player should learn something from her. WMC may be good but i think Tine has an upper edge. She has great speed and power. Just within one year she is being noticed. what her secret.

Actually, Tine's arrival was delayed 3 years, due to achilles injury. She was supposed to continue where Camilla Martin left off in 2004.

But for European players, sometimes returning from injury makes you stronger. Gade himself just returned from 2 broken ribs, and immediately beat Asian Champ PSH at the Thomas Cup.

She has been competing in Singapore many times before but this year's Aviva Open Singapore 2008 must be her best as she was crowned champion against another frequent and formidable visitor Zhou Mi, who hitherto played under China but now represents Hong Kong. Zhou Mi herself won in 2002.

Tine Rasmussen has had her tough times here too as on one occasion a few years ago, she was wheeled away for an Achilles tendon injury. I could remember she was in great pain and in tears and she was absent for some time before she took part again in major tournaments. Her heel is still bandaged (see enlarged pic) during this SO to prevent another occurrence.

Tine, seeded #2 in this SS, was in great form and devasted all her opponents in straight games:

R1 v Sortja Chansrisukot 21-12, 21-10 (25 min)
R2 v Anna Rice 21-6, 21-4 (23)
QF v Xing Aiying 21-13, 21-11 (31)
SF v Wong Mew Choo (#4) 21-10, 22-20 (35)
F v Zhou Mi (#5) 21-19, 21-17 (36)

Tine optimized her reach, height and power to great effect. Clears and lifts that were too short and lacked depth were often put down quickly. Tine's cross court shots were fast and powerful and she often sent shots to the deep corners which caught her opponents many times and forced them to make weak returns. Even the strong and relatively tall Zhou Mi found difficulty in handling Tine's power.

As one BC member has observed, Tine has a unique ritual of touching the soles of both her shoes after a few rallies. Will this ritual bring her luck again at the forth-coming Beijing Olympics?

After all she is one Great White Dane whom many think can puncture the Great Wall of China. Hopefully her form will reach its peak during the Olympics, barring unexpected injuries. And I hope Tine could smile more in the court.

;) I think all the danes do it or at least many. As far as I know it's simply to wipe of the dust from the soles. Personally I think it's just plain gross and would just lay down a towel next to the court (if allowed).

Based on my computation, Tine will be ranked #1 after the French Open. Her pts earned @ French Open SF (6420) will replace the pts earned @ Olympic (4800) and that's just enough to overtake Zhou Mi and Lu Lan (both have no changes in pts).

Tine Rasmussen is officially the world number one. The tall Dane can now rightfully claim to be the world’s top performing women’s singles player following today's update in the BWF World Ranking. Fantastic triumphs at three Super Series events this year plus a silver medal at the European Championships has helped her to claim the top spot for the first time in her career.

What a season Tine Rasmussen of Denmark is having. The new world number one has won three Super Series titles this year (All England Open, Malaysian Open, Singapore Open) plus three semi final positions in Super Series (Japan Open, Denmark Open, French Open) and was also runner-up at the European Championships.

Rasmussen is also the European Mixed Team Champion and European Women’s Team Champion in 2008 playing of course for her nation Denmark.

Was anyone else dissapointed with Tine Baun's performance in the semifinal against Saina? She seemed to be hindered by nerves and never really settled into the match. Granted that Saina played great, but Tine should have been able to put up a better resistance, had she been more calm.

I am one of Tine's biggest fans as I am always entertained when she enters the court. Tine has an imposing posture and does sometime overboil with frustration. She has a very impressive power in her clears and smashes.
