View Full Version : withdrawal of Macau Open
huangkwokhau 09-23-2007, 10:41 PM From BWF, I got some info as follows:
INA has withdrawn:
WD: Yulianti/Puspita Richi
MD: Nova Widianto/M.Rizal
Tantowi/Vicky Indra
XD: Vita Marissa/Nova Widianto
But M.Rizal/Lilyana is in as well as Vita Marissa/Natsir ( WD)
tbleong 09-23-2007, 10:56 PM it's ok, as long as TH still in..

Good move....let Vita/Butet concentrate in WD. Anyway, there will be Devin/Lita in the main draw. Looks like Yulianti, Richi and Tantowi are all going to stay back home.
samuel882 09-24-2007, 08:59 AM Why should the Tomboys withdraw when they needs more points for Olympics ?

There are some withdrawal also from qualification....I think MD from HKG..next few days, I will know more on WS...I would like to see at least 2 WS withdraw so Pia and Febe can move to main draw..;)
huangkwokhau 09-24-2007, 09:01 AM Why should the Tomboys withdraw when they needs more points for Olympics ?
Vita/Natsir is still in maindraw....I think Nova decided not to go Macau so thats why no Nova/Vita and Nova/Rijal....

It can be true....I did ask BWF why he did withdraw....it was " personal"..so your guess can be right....;);)
Macau federation told me that there 2 or 3 WS withdrew, but BWF said to me that it will be decied in few days...so I guess I may ask macau federation directly instead.....

Great! Among the 8 seeded qualifiers, 7 are Indonesians... So the more WS withdrawals from the main draw, the better for INA... :D
1st to move up: Pia [Pia Zebadiah Bernadet].
2nd: Febe [Maria Febe Kusumastuti].
3rd: Fira [Maria Elfira Christina].
4th: Pipin [Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari].
5th: Nana [Fransisca Ratnasari].
6th: Sylvi [Sylvina Kurniawan].
7th: Lydia Cheah [MAS]
8th: Melicia Kurniawan
But I have to admit whoever among the 8 players above who gets into the main draw will have to all face tough opponents. I predict, realistically, by the Round of 16, there will be only 1 WS left from INA... :D If we have 2 WS in the Round of 16, I will be jumping for joy! :D But good playing experience for them laaaahhh... They are all 22 years old or younger, I think. Still time to improve... :D
ctjcad 09-24-2007, 02:53 PM it's ok, as long as TH still in..
:D..let's hope he won't withdraw, @ the last minute, also..(flying here and there could take a toll on someone's physique, esp. within 1 week, ya know)..:p;)

Vita/lyliana will be there to play WD and also Lyliana/Rizal.....just no nova/rizal and Nova/vita
huangkwokhau 09-25-2007, 01:02 PM Confirmed that Vita Marissa, Rizal and Natsir are not going to Macau Open...so there is no GL/HS vs Vita/Natsir.
TH and MK/HS are still listed....

Dreamzz 09-25-2007, 01:24 PM i think the girls deserve a break, they've had some good results recently.
will their next tournament be the danish SS?

from sources that I got..all INA players are committed to French and Denmark...
When I called BWF, he mentioned that those girls wont be playing Mixed but WD....I guess he would get email from PBSI for next cancellation.
If you can read Indonesian www.kompas.com....you (http://www.kompas.com....you) can see that PBSI is planning to send cancellation to Macau federation...all of them cited fatigue and they need doctor's letter to support their withdrawal....sad..sad..I guess it is good idea..
I feel sorry for Rizal as he has not played for a while....no money earned as well..come on Greysa..pls get well !!!:o
Dreamzz 09-25-2007, 01:31 PM ah, don't worry man, these guys are rich.
they don't have to count on their winnings in tournaments to get by, otherwise it'll be a hard struggle to survive for most players.
good to see all the major players supporting to SS though.

..i would expect the CHN squad to dominate the Macau Open, just like how the INA squad did in last week's CTO...And with the rate things are going now, i won't be surprised if TH & MK & HS also decide to pull out (are they the only remaining INA players still on the list??):p...Let's just hope the INA squad's withdrawal won't make our Hau-ge also.......................withdraw from the Macau Open:rolleyes::p;)

I got my tickets and hotel booked...well..gotta go...I do not have doctor's letter to withdraw...:D:D
samuel882 09-25-2007, 05:22 PM Question:
1. Do PBSI is the one who make decision for INA players to compete anywhere or the individual clubs?
2. Can a sponsor to players overruled any decison make by clubs or PBSI.. For example : Force a player to compete in an inaugural tournaments>?

For National players, all decisions are made by PBSI.
Sponsor can ask some players but with doctor's letter, Sponsor could not fine them...unless all INA players pull out from HKG OPen, I believe that Yonex may dispute as breach of contract.
I am sure someone will fill more details as I know there are more clauses in Yonex's contract.

if ina squad withdraw, China will dominate like ina did in CTO
at least i will be able to make excuse like this below if china dominate Macau open 2007 :D :D :p (just joking):
"China sent their top guns , indonesia only sent one top supporter :D.."
i remember someone posted like this "ina sent their top guns, china sent their children" to comment about ina's domination in cto 2007
abedeng 09-25-2007, 11:07 PM The competition dates are too close, we just had 2 weeks of competition up to last week. And there are two Super Series events in October.
Even a machine would need some maintenance if abused this hard.

I can't help think Malaysian players (or for that matter, all players) must learn to space their tournaments a bit. That is, target every 2nd tournament instead of every tournament. If they don't, I agree with you that they would have abused their bodies. The wear and tear is just too much causing grievances (mental) and injuries (physical).
With so many good players these days, it is getting hard to win a tournament. So a bit of planning, e.g. choosing the right tournament might help to mitigate any early retirement due to stress, fatigue and injuries.
samuel882 09-26-2007, 03:46 AM Maybe a ridiculous comparison :
Football players running the field for 8-9 months in a competitive level probably without much rest periods..
As a badminton players (PRO) , he should not always blame fatigue as a reason to skip as many tournament (i meant in a row) as possible .
Those sportsman must be extra original from normal human being , otherwise why should he be selected to represent their countries ??
huangkwokhau 09-26-2007, 03:50 AM just off the phone with Macau Federation:

you r a true blogger :D :D..
you blog helps many people here who ask about the results of the tournaments ...
huangkwokhau 09-26-2007, 05:30 AM Actually it is tough month for Chinese players in October.
Oct 2 -7: Macau Open
Oct 9-14: Olympic test
Oct 16-21: Dutch Open
Oct 23-28: Denmark Super Series
Oct 30 - Nov 4: French Super series
I can not see LD/BCL/CY/CJ will play nonstop , at least 4 tournaments in a row...I am worried that some will pull out from Macau and focus on Olympic test then 2 SS.....tough months for Chinese players to participate all tournaments...
Cheung 09-26-2007, 06:19 AM I don't think they will pull out of Macau. Again, politics is the issue and the chinese government will want to show support to former colonies which have now reverted back to China.
I can see the Dutch open suffering the most. 3 tournaments on the road is very tough according to some of the players I've spoken to in the past.
Cheung 09-26-2007, 06:26 AM With all the withdrawals, it is a chance for the lower ranking players to get more points. Although more tournaments means players cannot play in everyone, it means the ranking points can be spread out over a greater range of players. There is more tactical thought for the coaches and coaches. How best to improve the ranking? Enter toournaments where the chance of not entering the 2nd/3rd round is high, or try a smaller tournament, go further and try to pick up more valuable match experience and points.
skchen 09-26-2007, 08:20 AM it's ok, as long as TH still in..
TH should withdraw as no player however good he is, can play in 3 consecutive tournaments.
TH was already tired when he played Sony and lost in the Taipei Open. Sony was fresher as he lost in the early rounds of the Japan Open. Lee Chong Wei also could not sustain as he played in 3 consecutive tournaments (Kedah, Japan & Taipei) and reaching and winning the finals of the first two. The same happened to Lin Dan who played in the consecutive German, All-England and Swiss Opens and lost (retired 5-0 in the 2nd game of the semi-final) in the Swiss Open. The optimum for a player would be two consecutive opens at the most.

TH won't play 3 successive tournaments. He got 1 week off this week... ;)
Dreamzz 09-26-2007, 12:08 PM hmmmm, that's something for BAM and PBSI to consider then.
make sure their players peak at the right tournaments, and rest/train in between.
i wonder if the players have much of a say as to what tournaments they participate in, i'm sure TH dictates where and when he competes, but what about the others?
Krisna 09-26-2007, 12:11 PM With some withdrawals in the main draw and the fact that we have many highly seeded INA players in the WS qualifiers... There is a possibility that we might see all EIGHT WS player from INA in the main draw... ;)
Firda:cool:, Nana:cool:, Pia:cool:, Febe:cool:, Fira:cool:, Silvy:cool:, Pipin:cool:, and Melicia:cool:.
That would be cool! On the other hand, I know quite well that given the high level of opponent quality in this tournament... er... all EIGHT can be wiped out in the 1st round too... :o :p

sorry..not KONI...you are right.....I just talked to Yayuk basuki last 2 days...hehe.. I mentioned to yayuk why TH/Sony has to play for Sea games ( Since Mas will not send their top guns)....since Yayuk and Lufti hamid ( SATGAS) are responsible for badminton, table tennis, volley ball, softball, sepak takraw ( there are 6 sports)...the reason is INA is down to 5th place and need tos ecure for more gold medals....I said what if TH said ' NO"...Yayuk replied....well...if Agum said " YES" TH would not dare....I think I mix up

Correct, ctjcad! Agum Gumelar was the Chief. Now it is Rita Subowo. Nice lady. A real worthy Sports Commisioner... ;) The best we have for a very loong time. The others didn't love INA Sports like she does. And I like her because she recognized that badminton is INA's goldmine in all multi-sport events. Thus she began dropping some money to PBSI since a few months ago... Not enough, but it is a start... :p
I do know that TH has a say..but for Sea games, his father-in-law is the chairman of KONI so he may have to listen his in law....
Even though Pak Agum is not the KONI Chief anymore, he is one of the 2009 Presidential Candidate... :D Maybe some 'patriotic' points and 'have contributed to the country' points need to be accumulated by members of his family [i.e. Taufik]... ;)

I hope She will not ban INA players to compete at HKG open...
I have also known that within SATGAS...they are fighting for " FUND".....I heard that some official have side business like Tshirt and force KONI to buy thru their channel to get more " money"...I think I can confirm as YB gave so much " dirty politics" what we say UUD ( ujung ujungnya duit juga)

I can not see LD/BCL/CY/CJ will play nonstop , at least 4 tournaments in a row...I am worried that some will pull out from Macau and focus on Olympic test then 2 SS.....tough months for Chinese players to participate all tournaments...
Olympic test, as mentioned in the related thread, 99% of China players ONLY are competing.
TH/LCW/PG etc the rest of top guns beside China team are not even get invited.
So, most of the players in the circuit will be well rested after the MACAU Open..

Thats correct...but I am talking about chinese players...when will they get a break?? those 2 super series will be tough for them....
huangkwokhau 09-26-2007, 05:33 PM With some withdrawals in the main draw and the fact that we have many highly seeded INA players in the WS qualifiers...
So far we have 2 WS, Firdasari and PIa in the main draw( after WC withdrew)
samuel882 09-26-2007, 05:36 PM Thats correct...but I am talking about chinese players...when will they get a break?? those 2 super series will be tough for them....
Well.. Who to blame?Scheduled the Olympic test sandwiched between MACAU & Dutch ? Why can't they rescheduled to some other's date instead
yeeloon928 09-26-2007, 07:52 PM I will...so far Wang Chen ,kendrick lee, Vita Marrisa, Nova Widianto, M. Rijal and Lilyana Natsir
so these players are confirmed with their withdrawn? will there be another round of drawing to be take place?
yeeloon928 09-26-2007, 07:54 PM you r a true blogger :D :D..
you blog helps many people here who ask about the results of the tournaments ...
hehe.. thanks, but wish to do learn something else, beside my daily job :P
badmintoncentral forum has been drive a huge amount of traffic to my blog :D i hope the traffic able maintain and increase in future :D
badMania 09-26-2007, 07:54 PM Just read in Kompas that INA HAS WITHDRAWN the 4 players: Nova Widianto, Mohd Rijal, Lilyana Natsir and Vita Marissa. A good move I think...rest them before the European tourneys.
I hope they rest Kido/Hendra too.....let AG/Joko and Luluk/Alvent take the responsibility of flying the INA flag high in Macau.
However, I don't expect any title from there even if Kido/Hendra do compete.....a semi-final placing is good.....a final placing is great and a title will be excellent!
That would be a DISASTER
Imagine a tournament w/o LD/BCL/LCW/TH etc.. :mad::crying:
Then Sandy may decide to withdraw his PAWs and poor Rudy will have no chance to prove his mettle! :D

no, I won't cancel PAW because of some top players pulled out.
Usually I can run PAW WTA in 2 or 3 tournaments in a week.
I should do it same in badminton but I decided just one tournament in this time because of the number of PAWers, too small if splitted in 2 tournament.
So I will run only PAW Macau which higher category than Bitburger Open.

Sandy 09-26-2007, 09:09 PM I will post "Pre Betting Odd" who will win PAW Macau based on performance in some previous tournaments.
Usually this odd give pressure for players on the list and the other side give spirit up for not listed players and sometime they challenged "why I'm not in the list ?"

Hey kawan, must have confidence lah! :D
LCW's change of "postitive" mental attitude resulted in his recent success over so many big guns to win the JO although he lost to Simon in the just concluded Taiwan Open because of physical fatigue.

Yes, indeed......with some of their top players are back on track now....and home ground advantages.....INA surely is the favourite now.;);)...with Sony is going to play in 1st Single...TH 2nd. Single....a sure point from 2 nd. Single..;););).....refering to the latest World Ranking...
jasonmarc 09-27-2007, 03:44 AM TH should withdraw as no player however good he is, can play in 3 consecutive tournaments.
LD injured himselve in Swiss Open....and fail in Singapore Open...did not participate in IO........and some GP Gold.....Sudirman Cup...until recovered in China Master...and WC07....he played continously ..in 3 touneys in March ...and coused him about 4 months to recover...thats somethings
vching 09-27-2007, 04:36 AM it cannot be denied.... the great tiger of indonesia is alive and kicking... with their homeground advantage... can China deny even deny them?
hope to see one of those traditional INA vs MAS thomas cup finals, especially in indonesia... the atmostphere... unbelievable! I will be shouting my heart out for my country from 3000 miles away!!!

Sometimes( should be)..they place PMD based on who has withdrawn first...
lets say if Wang Chen withdraws first then Pia ( 1st seeded qualifier) will be placed against Wang Lin..something like that....if 2 or 3 players withdraw at the same day...then BWF may do something like lucky draw who against who...thats all I know....if more than half seeded players withdraw..BWF has the right to re-draw...I have been told there was 1 or 2 WS withdrew ...I guess I may know by Monday....:(:(
Smichz 09-30-2007, 02:35 AM looks like INA is really making a big move to prepare their girls to compete in the world championships n lastly, for the OG.Hopefully they can create a history that will shock CH's dominance..

We have broken China's dominance in the past... ;) With Susi Susanti, Mia Audina, Yuliani Santosa, Yuni Kartika, Elisa, Zelin, Lili Tampi, Finarsih... INA went to the finals of the Uber Cup 4 times in the 1990s and won 2 times... ;)
Note: China did not win the WS Olympic Gold until 2000... ;) Susi won in 1992, Bang won in 1996...

BWF competition regulations state that if more than one vacancy arises in the main draw or qualifying draw, it will be by draw of lots and not just placement.

When we get the list by Monday...
drifit 09-30-2007, 07:41 AM i wonder how is the Taiwan's team?:D
huangkwokhau 09-30-2007, 07:41 AM BWF competition regulations state that if more than one vacancy arises in the main draw or qualifying draw, it will be by draw of lots and not just placement.
I did ask ...it depends...
Like Wang Chen withdrew....they promoted Pia to main draw and placed her on Wang Chen's slot...so Pia vs Wang Lin...
also 3 days later, Zhang Ning and Zhu Lin withdrew, they will do draw who will replace ZN's or ZL's slot.
Now with 3 seeded players of WS gone and another one also....BWF may re-draw...
Lucky draw will happen also..lets say during Manager's meeting on Monday...there are more than 1 withdraw....then they will do draw by lots...

No, they will not replace Wang Chen with Pia and then draw lots for ZN and ZL's places. They will draw lots for all 3 places. That's the regulations.
gitee 09-30-2007, 07:57 AM Schedule of Play for Macau Open is here

I do not know..I asked the Macau organizer when Wang Chen withdrew..they told me that Pia was slotted to play against Wang Lin...then Anita withdrew next day...then 3 days later ZN, ZL, I think another one withdrew...
Thats all I know....;);)
If more withdrawals...they may re-draw the lots as you said...but thats all I know when I call her for 1st withdrawal..
huangkwokhau 09-30-2007, 08:06 AM Any BCers from HK coming to Macau? so far me and Fastdrop will be there for sure.....

See Rule 14.3 of General Competitions regulations requiring drawing of lots for more than 1 vacancy.
http://www.internationalbadminton.org/PDF%20-%20Regulations/122%20GENERAL%20COMPETITION%20REGULATIONS.pdf
Rule 14.1 will allow re-draw if many seeds withdraw as in the case of Taipei Open, causing imbalance.

I know...I have mentioned that they may re-draw, didnt I?...I did not dispute it as I have read the rules...just told you what they have told me so far....especially last minutes on Manager's meeting....;);)

Anyway, not the organisers to decide. It's the Referee to decide. And I understand that Ref has sent out notice to BAs on the drawing lots for promotions though not too sure if more seeds withdraw, he might just do re-draw like you said ;)

Referee has the right...I am afraid that they may re-draw on WS..I think one of WS seed also withdrew....sad as I will be there...I just hope there is no more withdrawals....:(:(:(
I talked to BWF event official , Macau has not sent full list of withdrawals to BWF yet since last friday..when I mentioned that ZN and ZL withdrew, they were shocked cause Macau has not updated them...;)
Cheung 09-30-2007, 09:15 AM You're faster than than the organisers. Probably they will inform BWF on Tuesday. Why Tuesday? Because it is the public holiday on Monday!

Hm...so many holiday in HK..:confused::confused:
haha..I may get some peeks thru certain players...may not know all draws though....:(
Cheung 09-30-2007, 09:20 AM Hm...so many holiday in HK..:confused::confused:
(That's true! Many public holidays here. But many people also keep working on the public holiday. I expect BWF can't discuss anything with Macau Open organisers until Tuesday when everything officially opens again. 1st October is China National day holiday.
Therefore, we won't have anything confirmed till Tuesday at earliest.
samuel882 09-30-2007, 09:20 AM Is that be possible ?? The QR start on Tuesday & BWF will be informed in the same date?
huangkwokhau 09-30-2007, 09:22 AM Is that be possible ?? The QR start on Tuesday & BWF will be informed in the same date?
The referee will be there and she or He will make decision....
I know Macau organizer worked over night...I will hassle them one more time..hehe:D:D:D
Cheung 09-30-2007, 09:26 AM Is that be possible ?? The QR start on Tuesday & BWF will be informed in the same date?My mistake, then they will have to be working on the public holiday. The organiser must be really having a big headache!
huangkwokhau 09-30-2007, 09:45 AM The organizer will be working on Monday..
They have to revise the draw after Manager's meeting around 5 pm.
I have been told that the revised and completed draw wil be ready after 7 pm....
ph_leung 09-30-2007, 10:25 AM Any BCers from HK coming to Macau? so far me and Fastdrop will be there for sure.....
Kinda. My wife and I will be into HK from Vancouver on the 2nd day and immediately heading over to Macau with her aunt and uncle from HK. Surprisingly, we've found a relatively cheap hotel so we won't have to ferry back and forth each day (actually comes out cheaper!)
I've got an email from them saying I have tickets reserved for the last 4 days. Still don't know how that works but sounds ok.

OK...if that's the case....I will play then...with LD withdrawing...at least I will get a second place ...only defeated by TH in the final...
Man...man....man....LD has withdrawn....I guess the real reason for his withdrawal is that he knows that he will have to meet TH in QF and knows that TH is on fire now...
The final...All Indonesian Affairs again....!!!! OK...INA players...this is a golden opportunity to get EASY PRIZE MONEY...:D

They will be fined for sure. :) Told you guys that many will withdraw. Trip to Macau doesnt seems to be worthwhile to watch. But can also look forward to the young guns to show their stuffs.

huangkwokhau 10-01-2007, 06:49 AM I have been told that there is no re-draw on WS.
I can not confirm yet but it seems that Eriko Hirose may withdraw as I still get confused with some news...I cant wait to see the draw....
huangkwokhau 10-01-2007, 06:51 AM As sad as I am that I could not watch LD vs TH...as I mentioned in previous posts that It is tough to see LD and chinese players play 4 tournaments in a row...( Macau, Olympic tests, 2 SS and some may play at Dutch Open)..I wont be surprised that some CHN players may not play at one of those SS....
huangkwokhau 10-01-2007, 07:01 AM They will be fined for sure. :) Told you guys that many will withdraw. Trip to Macau doesnt seems to be worthwhile to watch. But can also look forward to the young guns to show their stuffs.

Its already Tentave from China part to withdraw b4 they sent the email. It was not a last minute decision.
Anyway im sure you guys can still watch many exciting games at the MO.
huangkwokhau 10-01-2007, 07:17 AM Earlier day, after I reconfirmed with BWF as well as from Blackrose, Anita is still in the list but now..:confused::confused: so confused..
From information that I got now.....( I can not name the source)
Maria Febe vs Saina Nehwal
Maria Elfira vs Firdasari
Pia vs Li Li ( so Erika must withdraw)
Rosaria Pungkasari vs Filipa Lamy....thats I get confused but be assured that the correct one so Anita must have withdrawn...:confused:
Then Wang Lin must be vs Fransisca ratnasari as 6th seeded Sylvia Kurniawan is in qualification...
Anyway...this is unconfirmed until I got the list....pls do not blame me if there is any errors....still confused with Anita raj kaur's participation.....I can not contact Macau federation to verify above draws...

Krisna 10-01-2007, 07:24 AM Then Wang Lin must be vs Fransisca Ratnasari as 6th seeded Sylvi Kurniawan is in qualification...
Then Nana is in trouble... :o Wang Lin is good... :) And a possible future Mrs. Krisna too... ;)
If Sylvi get pass her qualification rounds, she will face Jang Soo Young, who is so young... :p The only other INA WS in the qualification must be Melicia. If she gets to the main draw, she shall play Soratja... :)
huangkwokhau 10-01-2007, 07:27 AM Then Nana is in trouble... :o Wang Lin is good... :) And a possible Mrs. Krisna too...

Krisna 10-01-2007, 07:33 AM :D:D:D I forgot that you still look forward to have your mission ...4 wives:D
I have to do it for the sake of INA badminton's WS... :p My other possible future wives [Wang Yihan and Jiang Yanjiao] are unavailable in Macau due to other tournament duties... ;)
Ok. Enough about my stupid dreams, back to the Macau Open... I have predicted that among the 8 participating INA WS, only 1 shall go to the Round of 16... From the looks of it, I think I will be wrong... and I hope I will be wrong! :D

Poor Filipa..she has to play Rosaria.....:(:(
The info is confusing..I have to admit...I talked BAM last week that they dropped Anita due to her performance then BWF confirmed that she did not withdraw as well as from Blackrose mentioned that she was on the plane...
then Filipa contacted Kay Bin and Kay Bin was not sure if Anita was coming....:confused::confused::confused:
