View Full Version : That first Olympic Gold : Malaysia Boleh!!
Pemuda 10-10-2007, 08:31 PM Yesterday, I watched the the first Malaysian going to space. I was very proud. Here we are, a young nation of 50 years old and we already sent someone to space.
After yesterday's launch, I believe Malaysia can do anything. And with that, I believe we can take home that first ever Olympic gold in Beijing next year either thru LCW or our mens' doubles.
Malaysia Boleh! Watch out Li Yongbo, here we come! We dont want no bronze or silver. We want that gold.
And folks, believe me, it is possible in Beijing. Cant wait to hear Negaraku in Beijing.

BadFever 10-10-2007, 08:48 PM Same here. Proud but didn't get to watch live due to where I currently live. :o
Hey, does that means you now believe KKK/TBH will have a chance to win Gold in OG. Talk about change of mind, our favourite always persimistic Mr Pemuda has just done a 360 degree full circle turn. Does this means you are buying all BC members dinner? :p:p
Edit: Are you really Pemuda or X Ball? :p:p:p

Nothing wrong with me, bro. Just that I felt so proud to hear Negaraku prior to the launch yesterday. And come Beijing next year, I want us to take that gold either in the men singles or doubles, or better still both!! Yes, two golds!
I want to hear Negaraku in Beijing next year.
Malaysia, we are a nation of high achievers. We have gone to space. Climbed the highest Mount Everest. Built one of the tallest buildings in the world. Highest flagpole in the world. Made the biggest ever roti canai. We can do anything.
Shall we go and make the world's largest popiah once our astronaut comes back from space?
Pemuda 10-11-2007, 03:51 AM NOT JUST LI YONGBO but u have to fight the whole world for that gold....:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
We have been to space, man! We can put Li Yongbo and his shuttlers in our pockets. We will take that gold in Beijing next year.
And watch out for the world largest popiah from Malaysia.

china sent people to the space earlier than malaysia..
even china was the first asian country who sent their astronaut with their own rocket.....

Yeah, sounds really suspicous, he sounds more like being sarcastic to me. After all my and BC members efforts, he was still pessimitic in the other thread. He was a bit sarcastic about this astronaut project (read thru the KKK/TBH split thread) and that was only a few days ago.
Read his reply here with reference climb the Everest climb. When the government made Everest climb/astronaut a big hu-ha, some of general public comments "That also the government want to make big news.People climb everest/go to the moon years ago. People from mat salleh countries must be laughing at us for being so jakun."
Relate that to badminton in OG.... The NSC and Sports Ministry pay a lot of attention to Badminton, often toted as best hope(read: only hope) for gold at OG.

But Malaysia much more smarter than China. We dont need to build our own rocket and all. We just hitched a ride. ;)
Lobeh 10-11-2007, 02:11 PM You know, I'm convinced good ol' Pemuda has been sipping the strong stuff and his guard has been let down.

johnps 10-12-2007, 11:26 AM But Malaysia much more smarter than China. We dont need to build our own rocket and all. We just hitched a ride. ;)
I do not understand your argument as to why merely hitching a ride on someone else's space rocket is a smarter or prouder achievement than a country which built and sent its own rockets/astronauts into space. The latter will require a full-fledged space program/technology.

The year in review/Badminton: Olympic gold in sight but...
By : K.M. Boopathy
Wong Mew Choo captured the headlines by winning the China Open.
THE shuttle trajectory of Malaysian badminton in 2007 is that the nation is closer to an Olympic gold than ever.
Koo Kien Keat (left) and Tan Boon Heong won six titles this year.
Firing up the hopes of fans are the stellar performances of men's singles Lee Chong Wei and doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
All in, they landed 10 international titles for the year - Chong Wei capturing four and Kien Keat-Boon Heong coming in with six.
Riding on the back of these superb performances, Chong Wei moved to the World No 2 ranking, while Kien Keat-Boon Heong rocketed themselves to the World No 1 spot.
But, there is always a 'but' when it comes to badminton - there are problems which could result in Malaysia's contenders not achieving their target of Olympic gold in Beijing next August.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong were unbeaten between January and March but stardom and personal differences resulted in a barren spell that lasted five months.
Coach Rexy Mainaky, an Olympic and world champion, was baffled. How could a pair, easily the world's best, allow personal differences and ego come between them and the Olympic gold?
Having compared Kien Keat-Boon Heong to his own successfully partnership with Ricky Subagja, Rexy expected the pair to grow from strength to strength.
Instead, Kien Keat-Boon Heong showed that they can self-destruct and their age must surely have something to do with that.
It is now slightly more than a year since they were paired off and achieved that famous win in the Doha Asian Games. Kien Keat is still only 22 and Boon Heong, 20.
What is pleasing to note though is that the pair woke up after their failure in the Kuala Lumpur World Championships last August and since then, they have kept their egos in check and have focused on winning.
And the BA of Malaysia must play a bigger role in ensuring that any differences between the pair are ironed out quickly, as Rexy alone should not be managing them.
Another pleasing aspect from the doubles must be the emergence of several other pairs, though they, just like many national shuttlers before them, are plagued by inconsistency.
In fact, Kien Keat-Boon Heong and the other pairs should learn about what it takes to make it from China's World No 1 men's singles Lin Dan.
He loses, occasionally, but Lin Dan is ruthless and this has served him well and made him the favourite ahead of Chong Wei for the Beijing singles gold.
On current form, Chong Wei looks good for the silver and that is remarkable, considering his career went into a meltdown after his shock defeat to China's Bao Chunlai in last year's World Championships in Madrid.
Then, coach Li Mao decided to move to South Korea and within two weeks of going under the tutelage of Wong Tat Meng, Chong Wei dropped a bombshell by opting to return to Misbun Sidek.
The critics, having seen Hafiz Hashim and his brother, Roslin, crumble from potential world beaters to also-rans, predicted the end but the opposite happened.
Chong Wei began to enjoy playing again and the partnership with Misbun has yielded three Super Series titles and two runner-up finishes.
He defeated Lin Dan twice this year and Indonesian Taufik Hidayat, his other nemesis, also on two occasions but he has to start doing this on a more regular basis if he wants the Olympic gold.
Lin Dan will be formidable but Taufik's unpredictability is perhaps even more dangerous for Chong Wei.
Wong Mew Choo made headlines by winning the women's singles in the China Open but she still lags behind the world's top players while women's doubles Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui look to have reached their peak.
As for the Project 2010-2012 squad under Rashid Sidek, the future looks bleak though they are earmarked to take over from the likes of Chong Wei and Kien Keat-Boon Heong.
Names like Tan Chun Seang, Chan Kwong Beng, and doubles pair Khoo Chung Chiat-Razif Latif have been mentioned as potential successors but they have yet to make any significant breakthrough.
The majority of the Project 2010-2012 players competed in the Korat Sea Games but a return of just four bronze doesn't inspire confidence for the future.
Malaysia may have won the mixed doubles gold through Lim Khim Wah-Ng Hui Lin and three bronze medals in the World Junior Championships in Auckland in October, but the current crop of juniors also do not inspire confidence.
More needs to be done by the BAM and more needs to be achieved by players like Arif Latif, Lydia Cheah, Mak Hee Chun, Khim Wah, Tan Wee Kiong, Hui Lin, and Woon Khe Wei if they are to become world beaters.
Malaysia may be closer than ever to an Olympic gold but winning one in Beijing will mean nothing in the long run if the country fades as a superpower in the sport after that.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong must focus on Olympics
By : K.M. Boopathy (boopathy@nst.com.my)
http://www.nst.com.my/Monday/Sport/2120832/insidepix1
Koo Kien Keat (left) and Tan Boon Heong played a total of 16 tournaments this year.
TO ensure they peak at the Beijing Olympics in August, World No 1 doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong will only be sent to selected tournaments next year
As Kien Keat-Boon Heong are the best prospects to win the nation's first gold in the Olympics, national coach Rexy Mainaky wants them to focus only on their Beijing mission unlike this year where they played in many tournaments.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong played a total of 16 tournaments, including 11 Super Series tournaments, the World Championships and four international events this year.
"Our primary focus is to make sure Kien Keat-Boon Heong peak at the right time and go for gold in Beijing. They will only be sent to selected tournaments until the Olympics," said Rexy yesterday.
"They played too many tournaments this year and one of the reasons was to maintain their ranking in the world top two but that is not the goal anymore.
"Kien Keat-Boon Heong might end up winning every tournament they play as they are in such mode at the moment. I don't want this to happen as this will put them under tremen "The best thing for them is to probably play four to five tournaments until August which will give them quality time in training and also help them maintain their ranking in the top two.
"They are sure to play in the Malaysia Open (on Jan 15-20) and the All England (in March) and probably the Swiss Open as they are the defending champions. The Thomas Cup finals in Jakarta (in May) will be the other important event and this will be followed either by the Singapore or Indonesia Opens.
"Whatever happens, the priority is an Olympic gold and I will ensure that they stay free of distractions."
There will be a total of 13 international tournaments, including the Thomas and Uber Cup qualifying rounds in Ho Chi Minh City on Feb 19-24, the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Jakarta on May 11-18 and six Super Series tournaments, but Kien Keat-Boon Heong will be skipping the bulk of the tournaments.
With the Thomas Cup campaign an important assignment for Malaysia, Kien Keat-Boon Heong will surely feature in the qualifying and final rounds, and they are also expected to focus on three Super Series events.
Lack of quality time for training was one of the reasons for their mid-season slump this year and Rexy has vowed not to repeat the mistake.
However, it will not be the same for Zakry Latif-Fairuzizua Tazari who need to do well in as many tournaments to improve their chances of getting a ticket to the Olympics.
Zakry-Fairuz may have to provide back-up for Kien Keat-Boon Heong following a knee injury to veteran Lee Wan Wah who was expected to gain Malaysia's second Olympic ticket with Choong Tan Fook.
Zakry-Fairuz is almost certain of featuring in all the six Super Series tournaments before the Olympics to improve their present world No 16 ranking to ensure their berth.
While Rexy remains confident that Wan Wah will make a speedy recovery and earn his Olympic berth with Tan Fook, the former Indonesia Olympic champion will not take a gamble.
V3i HoN6 01-09-2008, 02:15 AM He is obviously cooking the "Malaysia boleh" dishes to bait on people to have a Malaysia bolehhhhh spree. Then he get to show how naive of them and prove his cynical views are holier than thou.

I would rather see you being bigoted but consistent and admit that it was meant to be sarcastic whether or not you wanting Malaysia to win the first ever Olympic.
You are the one who brought out the astronaut and malaysian boleh sentiments which you've been singing the opposite tune LOUDLY all this while.

crosscourt 01-13-2008, 08:31 AM dude, are you seriously saying malaysia has never won an olympic gold? I didn't know that. Malaysia boleh!
Why is it that 2 out of the 3 Malaysian based threads today have a reference to Roti Canai? This stuff must be pretty special! If I ever travel to Malaysia you will all have to show me what it is exactly.

Yes, its true we have yet to win our first Olympic gold todate. BUT true to our Malaysia Boleh spirit, we believe by dangling a RM1million (about 145K pounds) carrot, we believe we will land our first gold in Beijing this year, most likely in badminton. However, we have a slight problem as one of our badminton star is having trouble showing up for training.
Yes, you should try our roti canai.

Dude, we already went to space, built the tallest flagpole and made the biggest roti canai in the world. There is no stopping Malaysia in Beijing, especially in the men doubles. And aided with a bunch of fengshui stuff like bracelets, gold chains, oversized jade pendants, rings, earrings and dyed hairstyles we are gonna outflash all our opponents in Beijing.
crosscourt 01-19-2008, 06:06 AM "And the diamond encrusted spinning gold medal for synchronised blinging goes to Malaysia."

What is the similarity between going to space and badminton ?!
Amstrong went to space but USA never won a gold medal in badminton, youri gagarine from russia went to space but Russia never won a gold medal in badminton.
Spain did the biggest paella on earth but they never won a gold medal in badminton ...
Where did you see going to space and making the biggest dishes on earth gave you the possibility to win a gold medal in badminton ???
and there's no stopping malaysia especially in men's double ?? how come i didn't find any of those pairs in semi final in MO ??
it's not that i don't want malaysia to win a gold medal in men's double, actually i don't care who's gonna win it but you can't say he's gonna win it for sure, by doing this you're just pressuring your players and giving you falso hope ...
so please be realistic and wait until the Olympic Games to support your players, you can help them to win it, but it's better for your players to not be pressured, because in my opinion malaysian's newspapers are already putting a heavy burden on their shoulders
and moreover, going to space has nothing to deal with badminton, many countries achieved big things and they didn't win a gold medal in badminton for those achievement

As for the going to space adventure thingy. I just want to say that Malaysia is so much smarter than US, Russia etc. We dont need to develop some space program or build a rocket. We bypassed all that by just buying a ticket off the Russians. This proved that Msians are creative and come Beijing, we will use our creativity and style and nick that gold medal. ;)

I think I have only made 3 comments on this KO SS 2008 hot discussion, where one of which our moderator, Cheung, closed the thread (but I was not the one to be blamed, I think). :):):)

Smichz 01-31-2008, 10:55 AM Malaysia have the chance..maybe at the MD,MS.In return, for MD,KKK/TBH should learn how to be more mature in the game, since even though they won alot, other countries players will also be more prepared for the OG,inc indonesia, china ,korea,denmark,etc..Or u can hope that ur WMC can win the WS title..like she did in the CO'07.Hopefully she's prepared for the OG08.
My prediction for others:
XD:England,Indonesia,China..will fight badly n try their best to win this title.
WD:China,Indonesia..between this two, will earn their title.

WD in OLY08 shall be CHN (gold), CHN (silver), then CHN/INA/THAI(slim though) for bronze.

Never ever doubt the creativity of Malaysia, my friend.
Instead of developing a space program & building a Malaysian spacecraft, we just went out and bought a ticket off the Russians and suddenly overnight Malaysia has been to space!!
So, for all you know we may just purchase that Olympic gold from International Olympic Committee. ;)

Malaysia have a chance.I believed that.Overally, its not going to be easy.
LCW/WMC/KKK-Tbh are the chances.Narrow chance i guess but still a hope.
But,between Regain Thomas cup and Win the first gold -What is the priority?
Uncle Yap hasnt been really prioritize well enough. His standpoint is inconsistent.
Something worrying me is we gonna lose both.
Up to this moment,i didnt see a solid statement from him regarding our chances. His staments keep changing.
Not being a pessimist, but i think it is important to set a target.
As we dont have a really world champions to rely on.
Kkk/tbh and Lcw arent at their very best.
So,the what we need is strategy.Do what we have to do.Completed the task with our best. And see how things are.
Maybe he wants it to be unclear for the press and public.N bet me.I really hope thats the reason.

He dares not to set the target. When the team win, he will be in the front of the camera and talk talk talk. When the team lost, he will ask REXY AND OTHER PPL to handle.
He will never said if the team fail in OG AND TC, then he's going to resign as to responsible for the failure.
We already familiar with those association associated with the government - Talk Much but Cannot Work. Uncle Yap is somemore worse - Dont Want To Talk and Cannot Work!
We want a change - step down Uncle Yap if ur team failed!!

I know u'll be boring if i go babbling around.
So,as simple as World,Malaysia Is in ISS!It might as well as-Pop Shuvit In Japan.
Nothing can make the world to recognise us but it is a start.
All start from zero and we make a move.
For U.S.A - they celebrated their 50th Independeces by killing the Red Indians.
Take a pride to know that Malaysia dont.
And the upcoming first olympic gold - please positive sikit.Simple.

Do u know how much we spent for sending the joker to moon?
What is the research they have done on the super-duper trip?
As for sure, usa and other countries in the world never will organise a trip to moon like what we've done.
I consider the trip is a wastage of taxpayer money and crazy.
MALAYSIA BOLEH!:D

The word 'malaysia boleh' from Pemuda never got my trust.
1st olympic gold is a hope. But not so many of us believe we can gain it this year.
We can have our own General election.
But insignificantly voice out our vote.
