What a sad state of affairs when Julia Wong is seeded ahead of Wang Lin. Shows how badly her game has dropped off. Hope to see some improvement from her but still some decent players in the WS draw. I hope Wang Yihan wins it.

I don't think No. # 1 MD Seeded pair CCM/THT will be participating in there

The tournament has not exactly drawn more of the bigger players. Being 1 star only prolly has to do with that.

i also noticed that there is really quite a number of satellite & challenger events for the month of November in both Europe and Asia. And not forgeting the World Jrs, Grand Prix and Super Series events.......

......... I think we might expect some 'diluted' tournaments as players will be spoilt for choice.

INA send many youngsters to Hanoi, that's good for regeneration! And CHN only bring small team (3 MS ; 3 WS and 1 pair WD) but seems they still possible to win 3 titles here...

I remember last year Vietnam Open, the winner won something like US$1,300 or something, unless the player win and can pay for his airfare only, not enough to pay for room and food, the other runner-ups and losers actually 'lose their shirt or skirt' so to speak!!!:p:D:p:D

It is around US$ 4000 for the winner or US$ 3600 for double if I am correct...same amount like in US open...:( I hope Chen Yu will show up...he needs more points here...

Same like the Dutch Open (US$50k GP Tournament Level).

It's a lot of money for INA players.

Funny why CHN send players like ZTT/YY & CY to a 2 star tournament. Before the tournament starts, it's like 99% they will churned as eventual winner already. Somehow I feel it's like adult bullying the kiddos when they are competing... LOL :p

I remember the tournament was held in Vietnam and I did post a comment at that time mocking the prize $$$, it was so low that cannot even cover flying to Vietnam, maybe row a sampan over and tenting and pack lunch and dinner...hehehe!!!:D:D:p:p

I think the participants for this level of tournament [GP or formerly known as 2* and 3*] is about right. ;) Many in the top 21-50 Asians are there. That's exactly what the tournament needs: good highly competitive games... Naturally, only a few top 10 players should be there...

Hey, I thought Chen Yu won't play?!? So his name is still there on the Chinese roster? Maybe he will play then...

Awesome! :D That means, we can expect 2 or even 3 INA MD in the semifinals... ;) Bona-Ahsan, Fran-Rendra, and Rian-Yoke.... but of course that Korean MD [Cho Gun Woo & partner] is tough... :p Hey, with a couple more withdrawals, even Lingga-Fernando can go far... :D

Ouch....blame it on the WJC...

I heard Pia, Richi, etc were dazed and exhausted in New Zealand after having played in Dutch Open... And then PBSI put their name in Vietnam Open right after NZ?!? Oh my, their schedule is pretty hellish... :p Competing all over the globe in such a short time... Can't be healthy... :p If they are fans like Hau-ge, then they can be ok, but not pro-players... :p

I can totally understand Pia's withdrawal...

Bona/Ahsan could likely face Frans/Rendra in the Semi-Finals if both progress. Meanwhile, Rian/Yoke should face Gan Teik Chai/Lin Woon Fui in the other semi-final.

Malaysian Junior pairs like Khoo Chung Chiat/Mohd Razif Abdul Latif and the Korean pairs as mentioned by Krisna could also spring some surprise.

MEN'S DOUBLES R32 matchups:
Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan vs Nguyen Quang-Minh/Tran Thanh-Hai -- the Vietnamese pair is relatively experienced and it will be a tricky match for
Bona/Ahsan, still I expect them to progress. Possible opponent in R16: Khoo Chung Chiat/Mohd Razif Abdul Latif.

Tantowi Ahmad/Viki Indra Okvana vs Khoo Chung Chiat/Mohd Razif Abdul Latif -- the MAS pair is more experienced and should meet Bona/Ahsan on Thursday.

Rendra Wijaya/Fran Kurniawan vs Nitipong Saengsila/Kovit Phisetsarasai -- ditto for Rendra/Fran. Possible opponent in R16: Hui Wai Ho/Alroy Tanama Putra.

Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki vs Q3 -- likely to be a Chinese Taipei pair and I think the in-form Rian/Yoke should breeze through.

Lingga Lie/Fernando Kurniawan vs Gan Teik Chai/Lin Woon Fui -- it will be a major upset if Lingga/Edo can beat the 5th-seed.

Krisna

Rendra-Fran can defeat Alroy-Wai Ho... Alroy grew up together with Fran, Fran knows Alroy well... And Wai Ho have practiced together with Rendra-Fran-Rian-Yoke before... INA shall win this one...
