View Full Version : Tremendous Pressure on LCW's shoulder again.......
alfa-2 10-23-2007, 06:31 AM Badminton: Lee on hat-trick bid
By RAJES PAUL
PETALING JAYA: National number one Lee Chong Wei will get the chance to go on an equal footing with China's Lin Dan for the first time in the Super Series at the Danish Open.
After solid preparation over the last two weeks, Chong Wei is fired up to give a good showing in the ninth leg of the Series, which begins tomorrow in Odense.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2007/10/23/sports/s_68chongwei.jpg "It has been up and down for me thus far" LEE CHONG WEI
If Chong Wei wins the title, he will have the same number of Super Series titles as Lin Dan three. Chong Wei was the winner in Indonesia (sixth leg) and Japan (eighth) while the Chinese triumphed in South Korea Open (second), All-England (third) and China Open (seventh).
Chong Wei, who celebrated his 25th birthday two days ago, is the second seed behind Lin Dan in the Danish Open and will strive for greater consistency.
It has been up and down for me thus far. I did well in the Japan Open (last month) but lost meekly in the Taiwan Open (a week later). I want to be more consistent from the Danish Open onwards, said Chong Wei, who is also down to compete in the 10th leg of the Series, the French Open next week.
I am happy with my preparation for both the Europe tournaments. I have given a lot of emphasis on my physical condition. It is good that I am free from injury. And I hope to keep it that way.
Chong Wei has a challenging draw in the Danish Open but he said that it had not douse his fire to win the title for the second time. Lin Dan did not play in the 2005 tournament when Chong Wei emerged as the champion.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2007/10/23/sports/s_68lindan.jpg Lin Dan: Bagged three Super Series crowns so far
The draw for the Super Series is tough as usual. But I am ready. A good showing will help me to maintain my top two rankings in the world, said the world number two.
Chong Wei is in the same half of the draw with two Indonesians (World Championships runner-up Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat) and two Chinese (Bao Chunlai and Chen Jin).
In Lin Dan's half are Denmark's Peter Gade-Christensen, China's Chen Hong, Malaysia's Wong Choong Hann and the Hashim brothers, Roslin and Hafiz.

alfa-2 10-23-2007, 06:46 AM will things go wrong again for him? we'll see.......;);) hope that he turbocharged his mental power this time around.......
samuel882 10-23-2007, 07:19 AM What is the purpose of this Article. Did they need to emphasis the word "PRESSURE" each time LCW participating in a SS ?
nwy5633 10-23-2007, 07:40 AM i think he can do better this time..
juz becoz he is far away from malaysia..

MALAYSIA BOLEH!!!
ronaldo80a 10-23-2007, 09:28 AM i think chong wei can do thier best................................hopefully
He is fine as long as he is not reading the local papers. He told me he will try to no answer phone calls from media. hehehe.. smart
Fengwei 10-23-2007, 10:27 AM He's going to stand a great chance of winning it. However, it's going to be difficult if Lin Dan is extremely fit and focused. May the best win, that's all I can say.
madbad 10-23-2007, 12:55 PM A true champion is able to accept the pressure and overcome it. Until LCW develops the mental capacity to deal with it, he will never be great. Look at all the real dominant champions in their respective sports, I don't know if they welcome pressure but they are able to channel it in a positive way. I'd love to see LCW figure it out one day and have his name mentioned with the badminton greats.
Tiger Woods: pressure, what pressure?; always exudes confidence; walks the walk and talks the talk; huge intimidation factor
Roger Federer: always quietly confident; just gets the job done; yet still a true gentleman of the sport
ronaldo80a 10-23-2007, 01:28 PM chong wei is intelligent player................

X Ball 10-23-2007, 10:04 PM LCW's chance is enhanced by his recent win in the JO (forget about Macau, coz after the JO win, where he anihilated players like LD, CY, Boonsak & Taufik, he knew he could afford a loss in Macau --- Macau was only a 'saviour' if JO went wrong).
Apart from the reported flu, which I am sure he will recover quickly, he must be rated highly. If I say he will win, everybody takes me verbatim and will cruxify me if he does not.
What I will say is that there is no reason why he would not win if he is fit. DO is a super series and he knows eyes are watching. I don't think the pressure is that great -- he is feeling good within himself after the 'Chief Coach' saga had resolved.
Expect the best yet to come from LCW as he steps up to this DO challenge -- the whole bloody Malaysian camp is buzzling with enthusiasm. It doesn't augur well for China nor Indonesia if the other Malaysian boys decide to do well too, fuelled by this energy of Captain LCW.

Is a Super Series so the competition is fierce and LCW better be ready as being 2nd seed will not guarantee winning!!! Win or lose, what I like Lee Chong Wei is he handles the lost better now which is the sign of maturity. You can't win all the time but you can certainly learn from losing and continue to improve ...
Malaysia is lucky to have Chong Wei, without him, we really have nothing!(Don't mean to dis-respect other MS players, but LCW is the only one capable of achieving something in recent years). So appreciate and value his contribution now and hope for the best.
Malaysia Boleh.

Come one.. join BC just to find out how LCW fare? You must be joking.. there are better infos back home.

It is funny how you can only see things from LCW's perspective, but not from other players as well...
If the high-lighted part is true... then Lin Dan can also say his loss in the Japan open, is because he can afford to lose in the Japan open after his impressive win in the World Championship, and (using your own word) the Japan open is only a "Saviour" if World Championship went wrong.

And sure he can -- I cannot stop that and neither can anyone stop me from saying my piece. Everyone has his/her own reasons and who is to say I am wrong or you are right, except yourself. If you believe in what I say, then you will say I am right but since we are of different brain waves, you would contradict me.

Wrong, it is how players fare (also includes supporting them), particularly LCW -- so not just LCW.
Nothing else really interest me - PAW, nope; Others, nope.
badMania 10-24-2007, 11:51 PM The Super Series events are interesting because most players (esp those ranked 8 and below) are guaranteed a meeting with the top players (eg: Taufik and Simon in today's match) as early as the second round.
Lee Chong Wei has been pretty consistent in maintaining at least top 4-seeds in the SS events. This time, he has a pretty good draw until the QF and then the tough matches will start. If he can overcome the giant-slaying Przemyslaw Wacha, it's very likely he will face Sony Dwi Kuncoro in the QF tomorrow. If LCW is playing true to his form, he still has the edge against Sony, however, he showed his vulnerability sometimes in recent times too, losing both to Sony and Simon  So, it will be another interesting match to watch tomorrow. Unfortunately, I will be away to Changsha for the weekend and unlikely to view the livescores
Assuming LCW can take care of Sony, then either Taufik or Chen Jin or Bao Chunlai will be his obstacle in reaching the Final. He has good records against all these players and we'll witness if he can set up another meeting with possibly Lin Dan or Peter Gade in the Final this week.

Forget about Sony or Taufik, the new badminton superman WACHA of Poland will defeat LCW tomorrow and send him for a tour in Denmark, just like he did for BP.:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:
WACHA Boleh!!!!:p
indra 10-25-2007, 01:50 AM For LCW, playing Simon or Sony is harder than playing Taufik, LD....
So..I am very confident Sony will be able to handle LCW....

Agree. If one were to rely on MAS media reports on badminton info, with very clear attitudes about players and how tournaments may play out, interest would have died long ago.BCF input quality is sharper, faster and has excellent contrast.
If the MAS media use BCF as a research source, the reporting quality would definitely improve, just from exposure to different opinions.

Precisely, the MAS media is too slow (one page every day is not enough news is it?).

I don't disagree with u. LCW is seemingly troubled more by Sony and Simon than by Taufik and LD recently.
But, I believe that LCW can avenge his loss to Sony if they meet again.
CLELY 10-25-2007, 03:50 AM No one escort for LCW to share the pressure?! Looks like his 6 compatriots that often take part in almost all SS tourneys thus far always stay the same, stagnant performance. Undoubtedly WCH (despite his veteran age) is the most dependable team-mate to 'help' LCW compare than Hashim bros, LeeTS, YeohKB and Sairol. Unfortunately, WCH must absent this time and seems LCW will be single fighter again. Oops! There's still Hafiz in 2nd round but as usual can't expect too much from him...

LCW were always pitted against SOny in recent tournament FOR QF Stages.. But NEVER happened  Looks like BWF want to have a rematch of WC07 everywhere but it does not materalised .. From Japan --> Taipei --> And now Denmark. I strongly sensed that either one of them will bowed out in this round here today
It will be good to see LCW face his WC ghost and be able to exorcise him.

Before his match against Sony in WC, he trashed everyone on his way and seems very confidence.

Chong Wei played extremely well yesterday. He was composed and was not in a hurry to finish Sony off like what he wanted to do during the WC. CW reacted well to Sony's shots and played well and fast in front. And it was Sony's turn to turn desperade during the 2nd match. But Sony mistake was that he played CW's game on the 2nd set. If CW keep doing that... i'm sure will be able to go to the final again.

LCW ran out of gas from the 2nd half of G2 on but BCL played superbly. I'm so happy for BCL and hope that LCW can get some much needed rest to recover fully from his flu bout.

Have you ever recovered from flu? Do you get into peak physical condition once the sniffles disappear? The lousy effect lingers for quite a while and maybe longer if you don't have sufficient, proper rest.

1.negative body language
2.unnatural and bad for neck muscles
3.more tiring than keeping the head upright.
LCW has one good reason to always hold his head high.Regardless of the match outcome, he always show commitment in playing excellent badminton.

You can tell LCW could not get on with it after the middle of the 2nd set. Not trying to make excuses -- I think he has to put this behind him. It was the effect of the flu.
Losing in 3 sets and a close one is no shame after a flu. I give him the benefit of the doubt. Looking for the French and hope he would have recovered fully then.

Life is so simple, either you support the guy or you don't. I know for fans like you, it is better not to have fans.
He had a flu when he was going to Denmark as i mentioned here http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48803. No wonder he slowed down a little in the semis and was watching his shot as i found out he got some slight injury to his knee around the 2nd set. But then BCL played well too.

He may not play -- and of course if he does play, he may end playing like he did in the Danish Open. And if anyone makes an excuse for him if he loses, he will not see daylight unless you are undaunting like me.:D

pjswift 10-29-2007, 08:48 AM He had a flu when he was going to Denmark as i mentioned here http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48803. No wonder he slowed down a little in the semis and was watching his shot as i found out he got some slight injury to his knee around the 2nd set. But then BCL played well too.
Agree with you BCL played well. How can any player not play well to take out LCW(injured or otherwise)? But LCW needs to be in peak physical condition to play his A game and be unbeatable. Anything less will make him very vulnerable. That's why it's great that he works hard but not so hard that the flu bug got him. It's important that he takes excellent care of his body otherwise all his and Misbun's efforts will be negated by some tiny virus.
It's ok to lose as long as he knows the reason why.I may enjoy watching him play but I'll be quite happy if he exits FO early to contain his injury and repair his body adequately. Better short term loss for long term gain.

so what happen to BCl in the final then ?
lost concentration?
inferior when facing lin dan ? (its hard to see BCL win when his rival is lin dan)

BCL shouldn't be ashamed of his loss to LD.He should be proud that he achieved what LD has not done? Take out both TH and LCW in one tournament outing?
