-SDK vs THA, Sony shall prevail..60:40 for him..but THA can be dangerous too after upset PSH :cool:
-Simon vs Peter Gade..hmm..maybe this time Simon will lose..PG is greedy with title in front of his fanatic host fans, but I hope Simon will win..45:55 for PG, :o

-Lita/Nitya vs Ha Jeung Eun/Kim Min Jung, 50:50 game as both had upset their previous opponents, but I put my mantra and hope to Lita/Nitya
-Lily/Vita vs Yang Wei/Zhang jiewen..both has prevailed with convincing scores..another 50:50 game..I put my mantra to Lily/Vita too..so they will win hehehe :D:D

MD:

-MK/HS vs XXB/GZD, the world champ will simply prevail..2 tight sets for MK/HS..yeah :cool::p

-Battle of INA!! Pelatnas vs Djarum..Luluk/Alven vs Rian/Yoke..hmm..based on recent performance, I'll put on Rian/Yoke

-Hendra AG/Joko Riyadi vs KKK/TBH!!..wow :eek:! tough game for Hendra AG/JOko as they'll face MK/HS jinx opponent, but eventhough KKK/TBH is great pair, I somehow believe that Hendra AG/Joko could make sumthin this time :)..either win or lose in rubber, 45:55, edge for KKK/TBH :rolleyes:

Overall, I predict INA will have 2 MS, 2 MD, 1 WD, and 1 XD in the quarter final..let see..!! :D:D:D

Heavy casualties in the WD which I didn't follow since I was too tired because of my Macau trip. But, good news in the MS and MD matches yesterday. All the players went through. I expect another round of heavy casualties today.

MEN'S SINGLES R16
4:15pm Taufik Hidayat vs Bao Chunlai -- expect a close match and even a rubber set. If it goes to rubber, Bao will take it.
4:45pm Taufiq Akbar Hidayat vs Sony Dwi Kuncoro -- the non-Pelatnas player continues his giant killing act, slaying Park Sung Hwan yesterday. However, I think Sony will prevail today.
7:00pm Peter Gade vs Simon Santoso -- as always, a tough match beckons for Simon in the second round. Peter has the edge.

MEN'S DOUBLES R16
5:45pm Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo -- if Kido/Hendra manage to beat the Chinese pair, then we have an INA representative in the SF. A tough match, but Xie Zhongbo might be slightly exhausted after playing 2 hard matches yesterday and one more XD before this match.
5:45pm Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto vs Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki -- come on Rian/Yoke! I am rooting for them and as I said earlier, a QF placement will be a tremendous result for them in their first SS event.
8:30pm Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi -- from my recollection, both pairs have yet to meet, so, it will be an interesting clash. Koo/Tan have the edge.

WOMEN'S DOUBLES R16
5:30pm Lita Nurlita/Nitya Krishinda vs Ha Jung Eun/Kim Min Jung -- Litya/Nitya have done well in reaching the second round. Can they progress further?
5:30pm Vita Marissa/Lilyana Natsir vs Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen -- also a tough match for Vita/Butet....the Chinese should take it.

MIXED DOUBLES R16
3:15pm Ingo Kindervater/Katrin Piotrowski vs Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa -- Flandy/Vita survived a tough match yesterday. Today's match should be slightly less problematic. However, Vita better be careful not to be exhausted as she needs to play barely again barely 2 hrs later :cool:

XU in Germany, PI in France, YAO in Dutch are not menace to Chinese squad, and they are getting older, so I don't regard them highly as heroines to do that task.

Schenk is a candidate, but her skill is still too "crude" compared with Chinese girls.

Rasmussen? We need to see more of her performance.

Nedeltcheva? Seems like to be a good candidate, but I haven't watched any of her matches. So I don't make a comment here.

YIP in Hong Kong? I sometimes wonder if she is no longer at her peak.

It is said that ZHANG is now troubled by injuries. I don't know if she has recovered.
It is really strange that ZHANG is still insisting. In Chinese WS, a player with even good shape will retire when she is old enough, giving chances to new stars. But Zhang is an exception.
YE Zhaoying once said if she was still competing in Asian Game in 2006, that would be a bad sign for Chinese WS because it meant new buddies didn't take the responsibility. But ZHANG, almost the same age as YE, appeared in the Asian Games 2006 and was a pillar.
I don't know it is a good sign or bad sign. Anyway, ZHANG is a player we will show respect to. But no doubt that she is lucky because LI Yongbo gives her so many chances.
We can see strong indications of LI Yongbo's preference. He likes to give chances to Zhang Ning, he doesn't like to give opportunities to YANG Wei/ZHANG Jiewen. He doesn't even want them to be pairs.

The symptoms become apparent during badminton tournaments when these people "support" their country's players. Medicine men, witch doctors, black magic are also involved but if you can believe it, it's all in good fun ;)

Agree with you about ZN.Her movement's now her liability. Her opponents will have a chance when they have good speed and can execute tactics that Morten Frost commentated on in Firda's match vs her.In the meantime,in staying on, she's doing WS badminton a great favour by boosting the confidence of her opponents as they realise she's rather beatable.The time will come when she 's seen as a training passage to the next round. And that might happen well before OG08.

Both u and pjswift could be right, it could be motivation or just plain unpreparedness against supposedly not so strong opposition. Then again, with the new scoring system, there is practically no "supposedly not so strong" MD nowadays. Everyone can beat everyone else.

Though I still feel that fitness and age is a factor, even the 3 top pairs have had poor tournaments esp. running on the trot, it would be much harder for Choong/Lee, Tony/Candra and the veteran Danes.

I fancy the World No 1 ranking will be "playing musical chairs" with some of the top pairs for some time yet ...... and not necessarily due to them beating each other.
