View Full Version : Denmark Super Series 2007: Day 5 (SF)
Loopy 10-26-2007, 03:26 PM Sudket PRAPAKAMOL / Saralee THOUNGTHONGKAM vs Nathan ROBERTSON / Gail EMMS
This will be a close match, but an edge to the english pair.
Zhongbo XIE / Yawen ZHANG vs Hanbin HE / Yang (F) YU
An all out chinese affair. Hard to say. Odds favor Xie and Zhang
Lin ZHU vs Lan LU
Lu Lan is playing very well, having just beaten XXF. Still, Zhu Lin gave her a beating on the WC. LL will seek her revenge on this tournament.
Gail EMMS / Donna KELLOGG vs Wei YANG / Jiewen ZHANG
The british ladies had trouble getting into the SF, while the chinese girls just breezed through...
Tingting ZHAO / Yang YU vs Kyung Won LEE / Hyo Jung LEE
Ouh! Tough match. Still KWL will fight like a tiger and give the korean a win.
Dan LIN vs Kenneth JONASSEN
As much as I love Kenneth and his dangerous counter-attacks, I have trouble seeing him surpass Lin Dan, even with home crowd support.
Chunlai BAO vs Chong Wei LEE
LCW should win this one. We will see another matchup between LD and LCW in the finals, with LCW winning it as he seems to have found LD's weak spot.
Ning ZHANG vs Chen WANG
That should be interesting. Yet our veteran Zhang Ning should win it.
Markis KIDO / Hendra SETIAWAN vs Kien Keat KOO / Boon Heong TAN
Probably THE match to watch on top priority. It will be very exciting to see those top pair battle it out. Favoring KKK/TBH though, as Kido and Setiawan had a tough QF.
Jens ERIKSEN / Martin LUNDGAARD HANSEN vs Haifeng FU / Yun CAI
This is probably the last danish chance in its home crowd. Those veterans will need to battle it out against the fast HF and YC.
LI De Quan 10-26-2007, 07:22 PM Very Optimistic One!!!!
LI De Quan 10-26-2007, 07:30 PM It will be one-sided game between KKK/TBH and Markis/Hendra!!
Very boring game it will be,trust me,guy!!
BAO will not waste the chance easily this time!!
I think it should be 50% to 50%!!

The problem for Markis/Hendra is in their mind, after lossing 4 times before (if I am not mistaken), and yet never won to Koo/Tan. If Markis/Hendra can set up their mind (forget the past losses) they will give a tough fight to Koo/Tan.
well-son 10-26-2007, 08:54 PM BAO will not waste the chance easily this time!!

Bao will not waste the chance for sure. But the fact is Bao rarely win over Lee. Maybe Lee's playing is not suited to Bao. Just don't hope too much to Lee, as Bao will give his best to revenge.
Krisna 10-26-2007, 09:07 PM Kido-Hendra had a tough QF and a tough Round of 16... I think they shall run out of steam against KKK-TBH today...

Of course I will support them, no matter what... I do not wish for them to loose... :D I'm too patriotic...
But I just can't be too optimistic today... I am keeping my own expectation low... :D

It is nothing to do with reverse psy, it's about the reality and the statistic...
vching 10-26-2007, 09:25 PM my predictions:
preview:
Zhang Ning vs. Wang Chen
Wang Chen has been in punishing form throughout this tournament, finishing all her matches in 2 sets and under 40 minutes. In stark contrast, all Zhang's matches have been three setters, even when faced with weaker opponents. Although if both players were in top form, Zhang would certainly win this match, as her status as badminton queen is undeniable, but Zhang's injury, together with Wang's performance, encourages me to predict that Wang will win this match by 2 relatively tight sets. Zhang should think of retiring from badminton already, as I suspect her age is giving her all sorts of injuries.
Bao Chunlai vs. Lee Chong Wei
Both players have been in superb form in this tournament, and I expect a stunning display of badminton. Bao beat Taufik and Chen Jin, the two finalist in the last two rounds, while Lee beat Sony Dwi Kuncoro easily in two sets yesterday. Bao will be out to avenge his defeat by Lee in the finals of the Indonesian Open Badminton Championships, but Lee is not one to forget his crushing exit in the hands of Bao in the 2006 edition of the Badminton World Championships. Overall, I think Lee will take this game in 3 sets.

X Ball 10-26-2007, 11:15 PM BAO is likely to suffer another defeat by LCW -- LCW is playing extremely well and judging by his easy defeat of Sony yesterday, BAO will find it hard.
Another LCW vs LD in the Finals, which I think will go LCW's way. LD is still struggling to get back into winning form and until he wins this title, I would like to think LCW has a stronger chance.

From history of SS, many top players played awfully in the previus day but manage to win convincingly in the next day, or the other way around..
LCW/LD/TH/Bao all being experienced this before...
No doubt, LCW played awesome yesterday in QF while Bao seems struggling.. The odds will be heavily stack on Lee to win..
I believe Lee will keeps his cool and maintain the playing style as he did for Sony, Bao will be in big trouble..
However, if Lee switch tactics. It will be a different games..

Why would "the odds will be heavily stack on Lee to win.." ?
Are you saying the odds are stacked against him to win this or are you saying he is favoured to win ?
YOu have to improve on the accuracy of your postings coz I do not understand what you were saying exactly.
eaglehelang 10-27-2007, 12:24 AM It is nothing to do with reverse psy, it's about the reality and the statistic...
Statiscally, yes, KKK/TBH won all the head to head with Kido/Setiawan. But realistically also they struggled in the QF match(2nd game) with the young Danish pair, a lower ranking pair.
In Sudirman Cup , WC, Japan Open KKK/TBH were statiscally supposed to win against English pair, Luluk/Alvent, Sakamoto/Ikeda but they lost. The trend is Msian pairs win against top/tough opponents but lose to those they supposed to win.
Of course I want them to win, but this is a worrying trend.

CLELY 10-27-2007, 12:38 AM Looks like court 2 is TV-court and will show all 5 big matches for today's SF!
Starting time : 12.15pm DEN time (05.15pm WIB)
1) Eriksen/Lundgaard Hansen vs Cai/Fu, I think the fast-and-furious Chinese pair will bombard their veteran opponent with smashes...
2) LD vs Kenneth Jonassen, hard to see how KJ can handle the world #1
3) LCW vs BCL, LCW is really very heavyweight obstacle for Bao -- final ticket for MAS hero, no doubt.
4) ZN vs Wang Chen -- playing rubber-set in a row certainly has made ZN fatigue considering her age, Wang Chen should capitalize this condition...
5) Kido/Setiawan vs KKK/TBH, a crystal-clear outcome that INA's pair has bad record against this MAS hotshot.
Sigh! INA must receive no title from this 9th leg SS...hope they will shine next in Paris!

the odds will be heavily stacked on BAO to win..
apontoh 10-27-2007, 12:54 AM Sigh! INA must receive no title from this 9th leg SS...hope they will shine next in Paris!
INA has few luck in the SS tournament so far, while MAS has definitely punched above its weight with LCW and their MD duo. But we tend to do better in other events e.g. team, and WC. I don't know why.
Anyway...is Rian/Yoke playing in Paris??
apontoh 10-27-2007, 01:00 AM I was just looking at the French Open draw. Just when I thought that SDK and SS were unlucky to have to play LD and LCW in the QF in Denmark, they are even more unlucky in France because SDK is meeting LD in FIRST ROUND, and Simon will meet LCW in 2nd round. TH is likely to meet LD in QF...so bad draw for INA MS team.
yannie 10-27-2007, 01:20 AM Rian/Yoke are not playing in Paris.
shanisen3200 10-27-2007, 01:26 AM couldnt agree v u more, sudket powerful smash is too hot for the british to handle...
hopefully s/s will show the supreme acts and reach to meet the Chinese in final:eek:

robin7 10-27-2007, 01:34 AM Men's Singles SF
Dan LIN vs Kenneth JONASSEN
Lin Dan should not have any problems beating the local favorite. Lin can take the match in straight sets if he continues his form.
Chunlai BAO vs Chong Wei LEE
Lee Chong Wei should win this one if his gameplan works well today. I will expect a strong challenge from Bao who is avenging his loss in IO final.
Men's Doubles SF
Markis KIDO / Hendra SETIAWAN vs Kien Keat KOO / Boon Heong TAN
Another great match to watch. The MAS pair has the phsycological edge but expecting a strong challenge from the INA pair who has never beaten the former before.
Jens ERIKSEN / Martin LUNDGAARD HANSEN vs Haifeng FU / Yun CAI
A battle between two former world number ones and another close match. The CHN pair will win if they can execute their attacking games right from the beginning. But the DEN veterans, with the homeground support, will be all out to get into the final.
Women's Singles SF
Ning ZHANG vs Chen WANG
A rematch of WC SF and a interesting match to watch. An in-form Wang Chen, who has not dropped a game so far, should beat a struggling Zhang Ning, who has been stretched to rubber sets in all her previous matches.
Lin ZHU vs Lan LU
A rematch of WC SF and the result will turn to be the same in Zhu's favor again.
Women's Doubles SF
Gail EMMS / Donna KELLOGG vs Wei YANG / Jiewen ZHANG
The CHN pair is the heavy favorite and they should take it in straight sets.
Tingting ZHAO / Yang YU vs Kyung Won LEE / Hyo Jung LEE
The KOR pair has the edge over the unstable CHN pair.
Mixed Doubles SF
Sudket PRAPAKAMOL / Saralee THOUNGTHONGKAM vs Nathan ROBERTSON / Gail EMMS
The THA pair is tipped to win the title after their impressive win over the top seeds in the first round.
Zhongbo XIE / Yawen ZHANG vs Hanbin HE / Yang (F) YU
It could be a tight match but Xie/Zhang should prevail.
X Ball 10-27-2007, 01:37 AM Men's Doubles SF

Wish her speedy and full recovery. I'm so happy for MAS WD and their coach in their breakthrough victory over CHN WD for the first time. They have the skills to win but not quite the belief. Now the belief is there and they need to work on their tactics to win again. There's no other way to shatter the confidence of CHN except by taking risk to dictate play.Once CHN's confidence is shaken, they cannot play their A game. It's called 'deactivating."

They would have won it in straight sets if they were not service-faulted by the service umpire at 18-18 in the 2nd game. I thought they would have lost the match after losing the 2nd game but they managed to pull it off at the end.
robin7 10-27-2007, 05:37 AM KJ leads 7-6........
samuel882 10-27-2007, 05:37 AM Anybody who watch the match of Fu/Cai can give some comment. Just wondering why they didnt smash much. They score so little points from smashing compare to the danish.

I think Vching came to that conclusion cos Fu/Cai lost to CTF/LWW at WC. Then lost to Lars/P(can't spel the name) at Japan Open. Then again to CTF/LWW in Macau Open. Now to Eriksen/Lungaard. At the players Fu/Cai lost to recently are over 30 years old. Lars and partner are already 31, if I'm not mistaken.

vching 10-27-2007, 05:52 AM my analysis of Cai and Fu's lost, and the suspicions of a crisis in the MD's department in China's badminton
preview:
Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng - End of an era or just a cycle?
It cannot be denied that Cai and Fu have consistently dominated the Men's Doubles badminton scene for the past 2 years. They have been the world number 1 for 13 straight months, and have been almost a household name in many badminton fanatic's minds. However, after a string of defeats, starting with the World Championships, when they were defeated by veterans Choong and Lee, to the Japan Open, Macau Open, Chinese Taipei Open, and finally ending with their exit 15 minutes ago in the hands of veterans Eriksen and Luungard Hansen. While Cai and Fu might be going through a phase, suspicion after their slump is beginning to form: are they a spent force already?

I think Fu/Cai needs to be rest for 1-2 months to improve their skill and confidence in order to achieve excellent result in the future tournaments. Their schedule is so tight that they dont have sufficient time to undergo intensive training.
Remember, when they lost twice to KKK/TBH in All England and the Swiss Open. Then, no more tournament after that. They train at home and show excellent performance to grab the Singapore Open and Indonesia Open title. Their performance at that time definitely are the best where they confidently beat many top pairs with convincing result in the Sudirman Cup.
INTENSIVE TRAINING for them and they WILL BE BACK.;)
