My predictions:

With the ongoing Paris Masters Series Tennis Tournament happening this week, I doubt that the French Open will get much attention. However, heres my predictions for this week's French Open:

Predictions for Selected Singles Matches on Day 1 of Main Draw:

Park Sung Hwan vs. Wong Choong Hann (Match not confirmed due to injury)
Technically speaking, from a ratings point of view, Wong is just in front of Park by 1 position. However, after the stellar performances of Wong in his recent few campaigns, which started with a runner-up position in Chengdu, I think Wong would prevail easily and set up a meeting with Lin Dan or Sony.

Lin Dan vs. Sony (Match of the Day)
A rematch of the finals of the recent World Championships. While Lin Dan defeated Sony in straight sets, Sony is still a formidable opponent, stretching Lin to deuce in the second set. Lin Dan is most vulnerable in early rounds, when he is not really warmed up yet. His disappointing Olympics 2004 defeat to Ronald Susilo in the first round when he was the first seed proved that. Overall a tight fight, but Lin Dan will eventually prevail in 2 sets.

As I predicted, Team INA didn't win any titles at the Denmark Super Series last week. Well, traditionally we didn't do well in Europe anyway  However, the French Super Series is a new event and I am hoping that Team INA can do their best. Not much, perhaps one or two pairs can reach the Final?

MEN'S SINGLES R32
Lin Dan vs Sony Dwi Kuncoro -- a nightmare draw for Sony and it would be a miracle if he can win tomorrow.

Taufik Hidayat vs Andrew Dabeka -- seeded eight in the French Super Series, Taufik should at least reach the last 8 and meet Lin Dan.

Simon Santoso vs Q4 -- a tricky draw for Simon as he could face either Joachim Persson or Lee Hyun Il. However, with both qualifying players probably exhausted from the 3 matches today, Simon should progress.

MEN'S DOUBLES R32
Mike Beres/William Milroy vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi -- AG/Joko should win their first match and they have a chance of progressing further.

Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Albertus Susanto Njoto/Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama -- tricky, but, should be manageable. The tough ties await in the QF.

Howard Bach/Bob Malaykhan Thong vs Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto -- the US pair created an upset last week and they could do it again this week, facing the inconsistent Luluk/Alvent. However, on paper, Luluk/Alvent should take it!

WOMEN'S SINGLES R32
Tine Rasmussen vs Adriyanti Firdasari -- should be a win for Tine and Firda will do well if she can strech the Danish girl to 3 sets.

Maria Kristin Yulianti vs Pi Hongyan -- another bad draw for Maria this time, facing the home favorite. Pi should advance.

WOMEN'S DOUBLES R32
Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti vs Imogen Bankier/Emma Mason -- Rani/Endang should win this one, however, Bankier/Mason.

Joanne Nicholas/Natalie Munt vs Jo Novita/Greysia Polii -- if Jo/Greysia lost again tomorrow, it would mean that they lose early in all the 3 European events they participate in, which doesn't bode well for their Olympic hope  It should be an interesting match and I hope Jo/Greysia can progress.

Duang-Anong Arunkesorn/Kunchala Voravichitchaikul vs Vita Marissa/Lilyana Natsir -- like last week, it shouldn't be a problem for Vita/Butet.

MIXED DOUBLES R32
Devin Lahardi/Lita Nurlita vs Q3 -- Devin/Lita face a relatively tricky match with experienced qualifiers like Anders Kristiansen/Lena Frier-Kristensen, Michael Fuchs/Carina Mette. I hope they win.

Kristoff Hopp/Birgit Overzier vs Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa -- a straight forward first match for Flandy/Vita.

David Lindley/Suzanne Rayappan vs Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir -- the ENG pair has beaten Nova/Butet once at the All England 2007 and if Nova/Butet are not in form, they could be beaten early again just like last week

Koo and Tan come of age
By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: Success at the Danish Open indicated that Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong have buried the hatchet in a bid to become the world's most formidable men's doubles pair.
And coach Rexy Mainaky gave the thumbs up after learning that his charges had won their seventh international title since forging a partnership a year ago.
In Odense on Sunday, the world number one defeated veteran Danes Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen 14-21, 21-14, 21-12 in the final of the ninth leg of the Super Series.
It was their fourth Super Series titles after the Malaysian Open (January) and All-England and Swiss Open (March). They were also the winners at the Asian Games and the Open tournaments in the Philippines and Macau.
http://www.thestar.com.my/archives/2007/10/30/sports/s_63koo.jpg Closer now: Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong have shown greater maturity during their title-winning run in Denmark.
There were fears over their future when their partnerships soured after failing to live up to expectations in the World Championships in August, losing to unheralded Japanese Shuichi Sakamoto-Shintaro Ikeda in the quarter-finals.
“It was good that they won the title. But more than that they were encouraging each other on court. Boon Heong always had a smile on his face and Kien Keat offered apologies when he committed the errors,” said Rexy after a training session at Gymnasium II in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
“They showed that they have faith in each other and played off each other's strength.”
“I also received positive feedback from Pang (Cheh Chang, the assistant doubles coach) on the pair. They handled themselves professionally. I am happy with the changes in their attitude. They have certainly matured since we paired them up a year ago.”
It is a rare feat for a Malaysian pair to win seven international titles in a year but Rexy believes that there is more to come from Kien Keat-Boon Heong.
Their next tournament is the French Open. The 10th leg of the Super Series begins tomorrow in Paris.
“It is unfortunate that we have two Malaysian pairs in the same half. It will be a delight though to see them making it an all-Malaysian semi-final,” he said.
Top seeds Kien Keat-Boon Heong have fifth seeded team-mates Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah together with world champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia and Danes Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen in their half.
Tan Fook-Wan Wah will be out to make amends after a shock first-round loss to Americans Howard Bach-Malaythong Bob Khan in Odense.

Joy and despair for Eei Hui and Pei Tty

PETALING JAYA: There were mixed fortunes for the top national women's doubles pair of Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty in the just concluded Danish Open.
The Commonwealth Games champions reached another milestone in their badminton career by beating world number one Zhang Yawen-Wei Yili of China for the first time.
But the joy in scoring the first-round win was short-lived as Eei Hui aggravated a back injury and was forced to withdraw from the quarter-final against China’s Zhao Tingting-Yu Yang.
Despite the roller coaster ride, coach Cheah Soon Kit was happy that the duo finally overcame a mental block against top Chinese pairs.
“They have taken leads against top Chinese pairs before but they were never able to finish off their opponents. They have proven me wrong by not choking as they did previously. It is a big breakthrough for them,” said Soon Kit in a telephone interview from Odense.
“It will certainly give them more confidence when they face top pairs again. For the last one month, they have been put through a different training programme and there is now more variety in their attacking game.” On Eei Hui's condition, he said: “We are taking all precautions to ensure that her injury does not worsen. She will be taking part in the French Open (which begins tomorrow).”

Wong Choong Hann faced off with Park Sung Hwan, in a match that promised fireworks. Choong Hann injured his Achilles tendon during a match against Park in 2006, and would be out to prove and point and on the way, collect Olympic ranking points.

In court 3, Jens showed that he is still physically fit as the youngsters though he had undergone a 3 set fight since the quarter final in the md in the DO. He is fighthing tooth and nail with the new combination of the koreans. However, in the critical moment, he and his partner failed to deliver in both sets. Hence, the koreans secured a place to the 2nd round after an early exit in the DO last week.
Kudos to Jens for his fighting spirit despite of his age.

Another unconvincing performance by Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa as they trail Kristoff Hopp/Birgit Overzier 8-11 in the rubber set.

Taufik Hidayat has always taken it lightly against lesser opponents like Andrew Dabeka. He just managed to win the match 21-19 in the rubber-set.

TH was struggling against lower ranked player....not good sign!
Probably LD could finish him easily if they happen to meet....

Not likely will happen.
Even though TH's playing was not good against a below-his-class player, if he play LD, the result can't be predicted yet. Cos... they have another thing in the match... something like ego, who is the best among them, personal thing, etc (I just can't describe it well in English :)). At least, TH will play his best if he meet LD, for sure.

Hiyaaa, English XD pair Clark/Donna lost to the Korean pair. Hwang/Lee not even in top 25 of world rankings cos Hwang's regular partner is Han San Hoon.

Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa struggled yet again in their first match at the French Super Series, with a rubber-set victory 20-22, 21-10, 21-18 over the stubborn GER pair of Kristoff Hopp/Birgit Overzier. They will face another tricky opponent in Kristian Roebuck/Jenny Wallwork tomorrow.
