View Full Version : French Open 2007 - Day 3 - Nov 1st
chemile 10-31-2007, 06:16 PM My prediction for Indonesian players:
MS:
Taufik Hidayat vs Wacha..... slightly edge for TH. However, his performance recently in bearish. After reach 3 finals in a row, I think Wacha has chance to be a winner
Simon Santoso vs Lee Chong Wei... hard to predict since Simon also show good progress and quite stable. Experience will talk, and LCW has the edge. SS may get the opportunity if LCW mental weakness come.
WD:
Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia vs Endang/Rani... Endang/Rani still cannot prove as the 1st WD from Indonesia (based on their rank). They could not pass through QF in 3 last tournaments. I think Singaporean will take this match.
Jo Novita/Greysia vs Gail Emms/Donna Kellog... Greysia is not back to her best perform after injured, but Donna Kellog recently also not show her good performance. Hard to predict, but I choose Jo/Greysia since they also have motivate to chase the OG points.
Lilyana/Vita vs Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen.... 2nd matches in a row. Look performance of Butet yesterday, and they also easy lost in Denmark Open last week, I think Lilyana/Vita must all out and have extra energy to win this match, since they are also play for XD.
MD:
Hendra/Joko vs Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmusen... Hendra/Joko are not lucky in few tournaments. They always met top pairs in preliminary rounds. However, look the performance, I think they can manage LP/JR
Guo Zhendong/Xie Xiongbo vs Luluk/Alvent..... Tough match. LH/AY usually show surprise performance when they not predict to win, but also make some shock when they lost from low rank pair. GZ/XX more stable.
Markis Hendra vs Michael Logosz/Mautesiak.... MK/HS show stable performance and deserve as top MD pairs, even always lost from KKK/TBH. Tough match, but slightly edge to win this match and go through SF to meet KKK/TBH.
XD:
Gao LIng/Zheng Bo vs Devin/Lita.... Hmmm, this is 1st performance of GL/ZB after champion in JO. No chance for Devin/Lita to pass through next round, unless have a miracle.
Jenny/Kristian vs Vita/Flandy.... Vita look exhausted since must play in 2 sectors. I hope that she can manage her physic since both players are not young. However, the experience from both willbring them to QF.
Lilyana/Nova vs Kim Jun Min/Yeong Seong Yoo.... Lilyana/Nova suppose to be has no problem with this match. However, look Lilyana performance, also Nova, I little bit worry. Beside, they always get a trouble when facing new pairs, mainly from Korea or China...
ctjcad 10-31-2007, 06:21 PM ..our chemile doing an impersonation of our badMania..With her own rendition of the INA squad's chances..:);)
badMania 10-31-2007, 06:24 PM MEN'S SINGLES
Taufik Hidayat vs Przemyslaw Wacha -- a tricky match and Taufik can very well lose to Wacha if he adopts the same attitude towards lesser opponents
Simon Santoso vs Lee Chong Wei -- on paper, Lee should take it, but, Simon has scalped a few top players recently and he could perhaps win again?
MEN'S DOUBLES
Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen or Tadashi Ohtsuka/Keita Masuda vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi -- AG/Joko have an advantage of more rest as the R32 MD match between the DEN and JAP pairs have yet to end as of now as it's going to the rubber-set  Can they progress to the QF? If the JAP pair progresses, I think AG/Joko can beat them, however, if Paaske/Rasmussen take it eventually, they still have the edge over the INA pair. So, I leave my prediction blank here.
Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo vs Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto -- a tough match in prospect for Luluk/Alvent and with the Chinese pair improving, I can't see a win for Luluk/Alvent.
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Michal Logosz/Robert Mateusiak -- a tricky match, but, Kido/Hendra should progress to the QF where Choong/Lee are likely to await them for another explosive match.
WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia vs Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti -- end of the road for Rani/Endang.
Jo Novita/Greysia Polii vs Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg -- it will be a bonus if Jo/Greysia can beat the ENG pair.
Vita Marissa/Lilyana Natsir vs Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen -- the CHN pair should reign supreme yet again.
MIXED DOUBLES
Zheng Bo/Gao Ling vs Devin Lahardi/Lita Nurlita -- not much is expected of Devin/Lita. Just enjoy the experience....
Kristian Roebuck/Jenny Wallwork vs Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa -- the upcoming ENG pair should trouble Flandy/Vita yet again. So, the INA pair better be careful
Kim Min Jung/Yoo Yeon Seong vs Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir -- the INA pair survived a tough match yesterday, and it will be an equally tricky one today. They should win though

X Ball 10-31-2007, 08:06 PM Simon vs LCW --- LCW packs too many guns for Simon. I know Simon has been doing very well but I always say LCW is in the elite class (only LD is in the same class; maybe also Taufik, who has not shown a lot lately).
X Ball 10-31-2007, 08:10 PM It was good to see Hafiz playing with huge enthusiasm. He needs to play hard -- it is the only way to get back to the top.
huangkwokhau 10-31-2007, 08:52 PM Simon vs LCW --- LCW packs too many guns for Simon. I know Simon has been doing very well but I always say LCW is in the elite class (only LD is in the same class; maybe also Taufik, who has not shown a lot lately).

V3i HoN6 10-31-2007, 09:32 PM A hard day fro Malaysian player, probably half will be gone by today.
Simon, Boonsak, Chan Yan Kit are hard player to beat.
vching 10-31-2007, 09:41 PM My predictions:
Day 2 of the action:
Park Sung Hwan vs. Lin Dan
Park has been ruthless in demolishing Wong Choong Hann yesterday, but he faces an uphill challenge from the reigning world champion and world number 1 'Super Dan'. While Park beat Lin Dan in this year's edition of the Malaysian Open, Lin Dan has been in invincible ever since, winning 4 Super Series Tournaments. However, after the dodgy second set by Lin yesterday against Kuncoro, it did put some doubts in my mind about this match. However, after Lin completely demolished Kuncoro in a 21-7 scoreline, I am confident that Lin will win this match. Lin Dan in 2 sets, unless Park has some special formula for beating Lin.
Xie Xingfang vs. Tine Rasmussen
The current world number 1 faces up against Tine Rasmussen, the Japan Open champion, who upstaged Xie on her way to the Japan Open title. Xie will be eager to gain revenge here, and I believe she will succeed in doing so. Xie in 2 sets.
Mew Choo vs. Anna Rice
After Mew Choo's shock victory against World Championship runner up Wang Chen, there is no doubt that she is playing at a confidence high. Anna Rice, the little known Canadian, probably won't pose a great threat to her. Wong in 2 sets.

A hard day fro Malaysian player, probably half will be gone by today.
Simon, Boonsak, Chan Yan Kit are hard player to beat.
Come on, Chong Wei is world #2 and Simon is ?? I am not saying Simon is not a good player but if Chong Wei can't even beat Simon then what hope do have to count on him on the Olympic 2008? Use to think meeting the Chinese is tough draw now Simon and Chan Yan Kit too? Either these two players have improved tremendously or we have lost faith on our ace
I think Chong Wei will storm into Semi Final, that's what I expect as he's playing near to his top form!
mAlAn 10-31-2007, 09:57 PM TH vs Wacha,.,.,.,.
hmmm.,.. Its a So So
hcyong 10-31-2007, 10:10 PM I will do one for Malaysian players.
KKK/TBH v Blair/Lindley - unfamiliar with Lindley; noticed a lot of changes in the English camp recently, especially the sharp increase of ENG/SCO partnerships; maybe for the sake of Olympics; remember there is no ENG or SCO in the Olympics, only GBR, and it is to GBR's interest if the best of ENG and SCO can form good partnerships.
CTF/LWW v Sun/Xu - is this the new CHN third MD; wonder what is happening to Shen/He.
Sairul v Boonsak - no chance
WMC v Anna Rice - what upsets by both these players yesterday; scoreline showed WC and Nedeltcheva could have been hampered by injury or something
Hafiz v Chan Yan Kit - Hafiz's defeat of Persson was a little surprising to me. Chan is not Hafiz's class, but it all depends on Hafiz's mood.
LCW v Simon - the best match today involving Malaysians; the Indo second-string players (Sony and Simon) have been showing improvements this past year; LCW too has bounced back from his WC setback; it's a good matchup.
tjl_vanguard 10-31-2007, 10:24 PM still, anything could happen.. hard to predict.. :D
tjl_vanguard 10-31-2007, 10:25 PM for me, realistic chance of our players goin thru is LCW, HH, CTF/LWW, KKK/TBH, WMC.. sairul basically will be brought to a rough ride by the superman

Oh don't worry about that -- Simon will definitely be motivated, anyone playing the likes of LD or LCW will step up. It is like trying to knock someone off at the 'OK Coral' to become the 'fastest draw'.:D
The only reason why I did not think he will win is because he lost to Taufik in the Danish Open without too much fight (but maybe Taufik knows his game well).
Wish I were in Paris.

I think his injury is not serious, as long as the game doesn't go into rubber then he will be OK. Simon strategy is simple, prolong the game and Chong Wei shall to the opposite. Lets see who can execute their game plan better.

Hey man, obviously you did not believe he had one.
Many people play with injuries, some injuries more serious others are recoverable. We still do not know how well he will be able to play. If he recovers then what we are saying is Simon will not have a chance.
And don't do insinuating questions like yours -- it shows the worse side of you.

At their levels, it is easier to prolong a match than to do the opposite. But Simon must think of his own fitness also.

injuries come and go, and you shouldn't doubt and insult Chong Wei's integrity.

agree
huangkwokhau 10-31-2007, 11:20 PM Simon has shown his consistency by entering quater final, at least in last few tournaments...I hope that he continues doing so...INA needs more players like Simon as we can not depend on TH all the time....we need them to step up to elite level...

I wish we have someone like Simon in the Malaysian team to back up LCW, in case something happens to him.
vching 10-31-2007, 11:24 PM I wish we have someone like Simon in the Malaysian team to back up LCW, in case something happens to him.
yea, I thought Wong could back Lee up, but evidently he still can't. Hafiz used to be the one, but then he can only back Lee up when he is on the up side of the yoyo.
madbad 10-31-2007, 11:24 PM If indeed LCW's injury is worse than he's letting on, Simon stands a chance in upsetting him. Simon has scalped LCW before, injury or not, so what's to stop him again? For me, it's too close to call; I don't even dare PAW it.

Simon is bound to test LCW's knees by lobbing the shuttle a lot more.

I think performance of Simon quite good recently, with only lost by top players and most of them are teammates. He only lost from LD and defeated Peter Gade, hence LCW must be careful.....
SS defeated lee chong wei at the taiwan open...
but this time LCW will revenge his lost against SS.:D
I HOPE LCW will win this match.:)
huangkwokhau 10-31-2007, 11:33 PM If indeed LCW's injury is worse than he's letting on, Simon stands a chance in upsetting him. Simon has scalped LCW before, injury or not, so what's to stop him again? For me, it's too close to call; I don't even dare PAW it.
I will PAW on big points today....:D:D...this PAW thing is getting more interesting .....haiya...just PAW it...does not cost you any penny....:D:D...I just want to make sure that I have to beat you to be top 3....hehe...
extremenanopowe 10-31-2007, 11:34 PM Just let us see what reason or explanation comes when he looses the next game. Not to look down or insulting to him. Let us hear it from him or his coach. I hope he wins the tournament. It'll be a startling result to beat the likes of LD if he was injured in the previous tournament. The logic says rest and recover well and not aggravating it. Do you continue to play even if its injured or pain? Do you know how tough a tournament is? Played it before?:D
injuries come and go, and you shouldn't doubt and insult Chong Wei's integrity.
agree

of course i've played in tournaments before, but obviously not to the level of Chong Wei.
So how do you explain several other occurances where injured players or players in extreme pain still want to carry on? Michael Chang won the French Open like that; he had to be treated for cramps and was in great risk of injury, Sun Jun went on and continued playing a 2 hours game despite not being able to walk properly, when the only chance of him winning was hitting winners off Peter Rasmussen's serves in the 1997 world championships, Chen Hong in the semifinals of the 2001 and 2003 All England when he played a 1 hour plus marathon match against Roslin(2001, 2003) when he needed ice packs to sooth his legs? How do you explain why all these players decide to go on even though their pain in more than what Chong Wei was experiencing?
Your tone irks me.... so you think you are superior just because you played competitive badminton and won tournaments before?

Haiya, I'm not even close to the top 3...
Not even in the top 10...
Barely in the top 20...
Guarantee you'll beat me, even without risky PAWs :D:D
extremenanopowe 10-31-2007, 11:52 PM Well, again everyone has their views and opinions. I just don't think its a good example to show to the up coming kids who may be champions in the future. if they were to hear this and follow their role models and play a game while suffering injuries, then they may risk their future (we may loose our generations of champions) in playing the game correct? Do you think all these players knowing BEFORE that they are injured and yet go in and have a tough game, is a good thingy? What message are you trying to send? Die-die just play and hope for sympathy when you loose? Is this healthy? Hope this don't irks people.:D Do you still continue to play while injured and do you still have the confidence to win?
Some like to watch spirited people play while they are injured because they earn the sympathy, but in reality do you think its a good thing for the player in the long run? Then why have physio or doctors? Any doctors here?:D

I think you are making huge assumptions that he cannot assess his own injuries, and that he has not consulted others on his injuries.
If it was career threatening, do you seriously think he will play? What you are saying or trying to insinuate is that he is not doing the right thing and you are a better judge here.

i've never heard about players that had permanent injuries because they played on and decided not to withdraw. Its not setting a bad example, on the contrary, I believe that this sets a good example; the fighting spirit shown by these players to carry on although they were in pain should be emulated. Im not saying that people should purposely injure themselves to gain sympathy, but the willingness to fight is praiseworthy.

precisely. I am thinking about the long term for the good of the players- players now have it too easy, in the days of Zhao and Yang Yang, where all prize money was confiscated by the government. Nowadays, the players are driving Mercedes and BMWs, and do not know the fighting spirit on court...
alfa-2 11-01-2007, 12:13 AM Simon vs LCW --- LCW packs too many guns for Simon. I know Simon has been doing very well but I always say LCW is in the elite class (only LD is in the same class; maybe also Taufik, who has not shown a lot lately).
dont say too much yet X Ball, giving pressure to LCW, later LCW lose.........:D:D:D:D:D
It was good to see Hafiz playing with huge enthusiasm. He needs to play hard -- it is the only way to get back to the top.
sure you are very happy now........me too.:p:p:p:p
alfa-2 11-01-2007, 12:15 AM for me, realistic chance of our players goin thru is LCW, HH, CTF/LWW, KKK/TBH, WMC.. sairul basically will be brought to a rough ride by the superman

extremenanopowe 11-01-2007, 01:04 AM wah, so you are the person who like to see "no pain, no gain" type lah? Its not in coaches book leh unfortunately. Is there any sporting body or associations encourage this mentality? Not in my Sports council definitely. Are you a coach? If coaches did this, then I believe I've heard some being banned from coaching.
Or is it you envy the players of driving big cars? What's your objective? Have them suffer and scare the parents and kids away from badminton?:D How much do you know Yang Yang and Zhao anyway? They had their good life and enjoying it I believe. I don't think their livelihood is being deprived. Zhao was in Singapore and he chose his career and decided to go back to china. No one force him not to be successful.:D

I don't believe in your notions of no pain no gain, but yes, in a sense no hardwork no gain, and hardwork means a bit of pain, yes.
Not everything is in the coaching manual, what coaching manual are you refering to? Is this the divine book of badminton coaching written by you? As far as I know, there is no supreme coaching manual in badminton...
I believe all sporting bodies encourage this mentality. They encourage them to work hard and fight hard, not just take it easy and enjoy life.
I am not a coach, and please, don't try to impose your 'coaching superiority' over me again, I really dont care.
I don't envy them driving big cars. How do you know that I'm not driving 'big cars' myself?
My objective? For them to work hard. Just as Rexy wants the Malaysians to work hard. He commented after the World Championships, some players (wont name them or else i'll get crucified) don't work hard enough, don't put in the hours, during break time just relax and talk around. On the other hand, Choong and Tan are the first to arrive, last to leave. A great coach (not a coaching manual) is saying this.
How much do I know about Yang and Zhao? Yang and Zhao worked hard during their days. Now they are enjoying life, as they should.

SS has the edge against the slightly injured LCW. But LCW is motivated to avenge his loss in TCO. Anyway, it depends very much on the 1st game, whoever wins it wins the match.
Judging from TH's performance in the previous round, I would say Wacha has a chance. But I want TH to progress to take on LD.
extremenanopowe 11-01-2007, 01:26 AM Kawan,
I thought we are talking player who are INJURED and still playing. Why bring out other subjects like work hard? Who doesn't encourage work hard and smart? Lets stick to the point. Don't defer from the subject lah. do you encourage an injured player to continue playing? A simple question? Anyone in the forum second an injured player to play?
For me, I would stop them and let them recover for their sake. Must there be a serious mishap before a coach stops a player from playing?
Oh, I salute you for driving a big car. I drove a big one as well. Someone told me a joke about 'big car and small brain' notice on his wind shield becoz, he didn't park properly. Great reminder though.

The injuries of Sun, Chang and Chen were all more severe and painful. What is so hard to believe that Lee was doing the same thing? Why do you suspect that he is cheating? There are lots of politics comes into play when an injured player continues to play and it can seriously impaired the associations from functioning well if no one takes the responsibility of stopping an injured player from playing. Credibility is gone. You get it? Who cares who did (played during injuries) it the last time?
The fact that if it is a known thing. Remedy should be applied to stop the damage and recover. That's called professionalism and responsibility. Don't just bull doze when you can't, its futile.
Am sure you don't want your own friends or even yourself to go through such an agony correct? You said that it was just an excuse to lose to BCL. I am twisting your words? I think it is you that should reexamine your logic.
Your paragraph:
There are lots of politics comes into play when an injured player continues to play and it can seriously impaired the associations from functioning well if no one takes the responsibility of stopping an injured player from playing. Credibility is gone. You get it? Who cares who did (played during injuries) it the last time?
dosen't make sense.... I dont know what you are trying to say... You are saying that China's credibility was tarnished because Li Yongbo and Li Mao decided not to stop Sun Jun from playing? Certainly he was in more pain than LCW. You are saying Li Yongbo's reputation was tarnished because he didn't stop Chen Hong from playing? Now you are saying BAM's reputation is tarnished? I think you are the only one that has this notion.
The sport does not encourage this. It is left up to the players. If the players want to carry on, they can seek advice, but the decision is theirs. So why are you saying Lee is just employing this as a strategy to make excuses for his lost? You don't make any sense.
I am not saying this just because LCW is my hero (hes not, I support him, but he is not my hero), but your illogical reasoning...
vching 11-01-2007, 02:28 AM er..... what will vching turn into??:eek::eek:

extremenanopowe 11-01-2007, 02:41 AM Lets forget atout SunJun. Its history. We focus on the current issues where it may be able to stop the damage.
I can see what your thoughts are (very enthusiastic)... lets just hope that when LCW looses, no one will take advantage of finger pointing. Misbun mentioned he was injured and yet not stopping it. If LCW looses and if someone in the ministry or coaching board wants to have a hit at Misbun, its easy. So, responsibility comes from both players and coaches. Maybe Yap Kim Hock will bear the brunt of all of this since he is the head coach (is he still)? It is now a known thingy that LCW is injured. I am not sure if there is a team doctor or he is doing his duty.
Again why risk it? What happens if he can't play in the next 2 tournament? U happy with it? Are all the fans happy with it? Is the ministry happy with it knowing that this happens (probably aggravating the injury and miss the next 2 tournament and having to risk the ranking for the olympics)? LCW is a candidate for Olympic Champion which is a very big thingy for everyone. Do you think the French open is grander than the Olympics?
No one doubts about your passion in playing and winning; but don't be silly to get whacked by someone else.
Agree?
I knew I shouldn't have revealed that I am a high school student... don't patronise me just because I am one...
You did not make a thread, you made a post:
You said that it was just an excuse to lose to BCL. I am twisting your words? I think it is you that should reexamine your logic.
Your paragraph:
dosen't make sense....
I am not saying this just because LCW is my hero (hes not, I support him, but he is not my hero), but your illogical reasoning...
gidong 11-01-2007, 02:45 AM Cool. hamsem ah... hehe. Prelude to exiciting matches coming up.

vching 11-01-2007, 02:49 AM Lets forget atout SunJun.
History is important - Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Why ignore Sun Jun? Just because he dosen't fit your argument? So we should just select some facts? You seemed quite happy to quote Zhao visiting singapore... whats that? 10 years before Sun? *cough* hippocrite *cough*
Again, I repeat: No player has ever been permanently injured because they decided to play on.
Why risk it? Why did Choong Hann risk it in Macau Open? Thats some recency for you.
Still, when you accuse me of evading the issue, you are evading the issue: The issue is whether Chong Wei, together with Misbun, made up the injury for the excuse. You seem to think it, and twist and turn around the issue... I mantain that Chong Wei did not make up his injury. Whether it was right for him to play on or not, is another issue.
Jessica 11-01-2007, 02:51 AM Hey guys...Stop arguing with LCW injury matter.Just believe in what you believe and lets concentrate on the matches.

One last post about this, in this same tournament Msia Wd player, ChinEH has back injury, retired from QF of Denmark Open, still played in French Open, lost 1st round. Point : they still played. Whether they should have not or how serious CEH's back injury is, the team know better.-Cheah Soon Kit says it's not serious.
WCH in Macao Open Semis against Chen Jin(I think) was limping. Later it was revealed it was groin injury. He played the semis, lost, skipped Denmark Open on doctor's advice.
Peter Gade was hospitalized for severe migraine before a few days before 2007 Malaysian Open. He decided to play, and won the title.
Philipines Open 2007-One of the Korean MD player(was it Han Sang Hoon??), had cramps while playing XD semis. They won the XD semis. Many saw him laying down on the floor for a long time after the XD semis finished.
Later in the day, still played MD against KKK/TBH, lost badly. The next day, played in XD finals, lost, end up as runners-up.
Later it was revealed he could not withdraw from MD Semis cos it would mean he had to withdraw from XD finals the next day. Should he have withdrawn?? The Koreans decided to carry on.
The Danish veterans either Eriksen or Lundgaard has a heart condition. Doc advised him to take easy, he's still playing.
So....... it happens in Malaysia, it happens to players from other countries in this current time. Right or not, oh well, in football, young players have dropped dead from heart attack. Apparently, not knowing what hit them till it's too late.

vching, there are few issues here, hope u can understand after this............
1) Is LCW really injured??
Basically i think we all believe that he's really injured, since ants said that too, i have respect for his credibility.
2) LCW cared too much of what the public is thinking of him
what's the main purpose of telling everyone that he's injured after the match? does it help him in the next tourney by telling it? NO.......it will only attract the opponents to further deteriorate his injury by playing a rally game with him.
The fact is that LCW cared too much of what MAS supporters will think of him after he lost. He has to change his mentality of bothering too much of what others are thinking of him. That's why he was always having problem with pressure issues.........ants did tell us that he was avoiding calls from the media and even didnt want/dare to read local newspaper during DO........running away from the pressure is not helping him in the long run.
3) Why play if he is really injured?
if he is really injured and the injury was that bad until it affected his match against BCL which caused him to lose, why is he risking to further deteriorate that injury?
pls remember, 1), 2) and 3) are totally three different things...........
My argument is issue no.2 while i believe extremepower's argument is on no.3............what's yours vching?

fastdrop 11-01-2007, 03:58 AM I have seen the match between LCW and Kenneth J. yesterday and I believe LCW is nursing a knee injury. His game was totally different. Few jump smashes, very calculated drop shots retrieval. His approach was entirely different yesterday. More on pending and suspended shots confusing his opponent. He won the game maybe by not playing his usual game. The style was truly deceptive. The French crowd was so amazed.:)

It's anybody's game. Under the new scoring system an error translates into 2 points. In a tight match it's a matter of who gets to 21 first.
Wang Chen is sick. Not even tried to resist the attacks of Wong.
The Malaysian girl played very well yesterday. Very accurate line shots.

It was not an easy win for Simon yesterday. Strong resistance forced a 3rd set. The match was quite tight.

Let's just hope for a good match. All of them are good players.
I notice the difference on how the European takes a match, they cheer and applaud for good shots. It does not matter who did it. Of course they rally behind their local players but do acknowledge a perfect and extraordinary shot. The crowd loves Taufik and LCW.
eaglehelang 11-01-2007, 04:34 AM The crowd loves Taufik and LCW.
Oh? And not Lin Dan or European players like Peter Gade? This may sound stupid but why do they like Taufik and LCW? Style of play?

fastdrop 11-01-2007, 04:45 AM Oh? And not Lin Dan or European players like Peter Gade? This may sound stupid but why do they like Taufik and LCW? Style of play?
I think Alfa-2 is right. They always enjoy trick shots. Taufik is the only player in the French Open poster. The poster is the same as they French Open website. Everywhere, the crowd always loves Taufik. They all move to the court where he plays. Lin Dan is also a favorite but not the same way as the two other players I mentioned.
LCW played with Kenneth J. yesterday, a European but the crowd cheers for LCW.
alfa-2 11-01-2007, 04:49 AM it is like F1 racer and rally racer..........F1 is faster (LD), but Rally racer (LCW, TH) is more skillful in some ways........

The same question crossed my mind before. I can give you some logical explanations, purely personal reasoning though.
Language - some players look unfriendly simply because they avoid conversation since they do not speak English well;
Natural Charm - Taufik and LCW apparently have it, it's not all good looks. Charm.
Following your view that Lin Dan is world's no. 1, the only two players known to be capable of outmatching the champ are the 2 I mentioned.I would try to do some survey among the local crowd and let's see what they have to say.:):(

RFLOL, fastdrop you don't have get so serious about this as to do a survey- unless you're very free while waiting for matches to start.
LCW have charm???????? Taufik I believe, LCW is more shy than Taufik. LCW looks bashful during interviews, not very good in English(compared to WCH and a few others).
I also mentioned Peter Gade- heard he's very nice, perfect gentleman and always entertain fans. Of course, then there's the skills factor that the Europeans don't have, badminton being Asian dominated.

It's not a serious survey, hehehe. I will try to find other people point of view.
I beg to differ on LCW. He speaks English and Chinese well. I always talk to him. Maybe not as fluent as WCH but sufficient to communicate. I think his charm is in his being shy. He is not really shy, the right adjective is "humble".
Peter Gade and Chen Hong are both very accommodating to fans.
