View Full Version : Olympics 2008 : Who's going ?

Chris, that sounds awesome to me. I've got no problems with a brief get-together on the 12th. You just mention further details as "where exactly" and "when exactly"
This racket issue is quite big. Has anyone got multiple rackets which others can maybe borrow? I only got one piece which I bought here...
Also, when it comes down to the badminton get-together at Fu Li Cheng (R&F Club), I got a second problem. The Olympic venue regulations state that all large bags may not be taken into the venue. That means, I can't bring my Yonex 9624-6 with it's contents into the venue. Does someone know a solution to this?
I guess I'm not the only one going to have this problem when that day comes.

Don't worry too much, Fengwei. Solution will present itself when time comes. Maybe you organise a racket shopping trip for all of us before the 15th. :p
As for the bag problem, even easier. We can organise to put all our bags at someone's hotel room closest to the courts. Then go pickup on the way to the courts. ;)

When I slept, I got SMS from Chris...he said one of his glasses is broken...since he has no back up..he might cancel his trip..I am still confused after reading his long SMS....

What?! That's a bummer... Let's just wait for Chris to respond himself. I understand if he won't come, as you can't watch badminton live if you haven't got glasses, but do need them.
Chris, if you need glasses, I have spare Ray Ban's with me. I've got -1,5 and -1,25. (which means I got problems seeing things far away) Just send me a message, and I'll bring them to you tomorrow if in any case you still decide to come to Beijing.
Hoping for the best...

I'll be glad to organise a trip with you guys to BBE Sports, but I'm not sure if everyone wants to buy a new racket specially for this get-together :p ;)
Good idea, just need to see who lives closest to the Olympic venues or the R&F courts.

By the way ! I'd love to go to that BBE sport, where i live i didn't see a sign of any subway so i beg for your help ! aha

Badminton's 1st day will start in a bit more than 1 hr., so should be fun!:)
Btw, the BC banner didn't make it with me. But i'll figure out something else to replace the banner..;)..

Tarek, great idea! Then we'll just put our stuff at your place in the morning, before the morning program, and pick it up after the morning program all together.
Maybe we could go to BBE during the brief get-together on the 12th? What do you guys think?

..for the info, Chu Liuxiang. Btw, are you in Beijing? If you are, care to join us for the get-together?:)
Also, didn't realize our pjswift is currently in Beijing, until a couple hrs ago when she called in. Apparently she's been here since the 8th of August & didn't notice about the get-together plan. And poor her, she hasn't gotten any tickets, yet...:p
Anyway, i'll add her name to the list of BCers coming to the OG.
Syaoran_Style (Tarek) & wocdam, please give me a call or send me a PM so we can meet up (i've sent you guys my Beijing no.). I still don't have your guys' contact no. Thanks.
I've already reserved a ticket for you guys for the 12th of August (evening session), if you'd like to come & watch.

Hi guys,
Through Chris' Beijing contact I'm able to buy 3 tickets for the evening badminton session not long after hcyong and I arrive tomorrow at 3.30 pm. It's the Round of 16 for MS, XD and 2 important MD involving KKK/TBH v Skamoto/Ikeda and Kido/Setiawan v Xie/Guo. Some very exciting matches indeed, especially in MS.
We, together with Jen, pjswift's buddy, will meet up with BadFever (Melbourne) outside the venue at 5.30 pm. I expect Chris to be present.
Would be very happy to meet up with others, esp Fengwei, if possible. :)

..as tickets cost that much. Y'day, BadFever saw a person who was confiscated for scalping tickets from another person. The buyer was arrested but the seller did not.
Only those who pre-ordered the tickets are the lucky ones.
Actually for the badminton event, a local broker bought a bunch of badminton tickets, expecting many2 Indonesians to come and support their players. Thus the mark-up prices. But apparently, it turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment because not many were sold.
If Tarek is in the Press Area, then the only way to contact him is through Mr. Fault. But even so, if Tarek is reading this, he should be able to read this thread and give us his HP no....But he hasn't, yet..:p

Ik was loads of fun. The courts and venue was amazing! Really luxurious! Glasger had picked the very best for us, thanks again!
He even managed to invite the China Universities Men Singles Winner to come and play with us. This 21 year old badminton plauer won the National Title for University players in the Men Singles! He is theoretically a team-mate of Chunlai when Chunlai goes back to Beijing University to finish his study and play for his school team!
I tried playing him, but his skill is just out of this world... We played one set, it was like 21-10 for him, and at the end I was just nearly dead! :D
Afterwards, we went to Quanjude and had a nice Duck meal. Waiting was 45 minutes, but well worth it.

sjoe, where were you?
Nice to meet up with everyone, except for Mr Fault and Glasger. Beijing was nice. My only regret is that my stay was too short. I did not even manage to go to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City.
I saw most of them on the first day (12th) itself (bought a 700 yuan ticket which originally cost 50 yuan), Chris (ctjcad), Tarek (Syaoran), seawell (now I know why he is called seawell), kemana (still don't why she is called kemana), Jennifer, Kevin (badfever), fengwei, Jason (Smash_1), Abby (only saw her but did not greet as she was very into the cheering business, and that night her idols Gao/Zheng lost to GB pair).
The next day (13th) after badminton, Kevin, Jason, Loh and I had a weird lunch, where Kevin and Jason refused to touch half of the dishes. We later went to the Wangfujing shopping area. Loh and me were too full for dinner as we had to try to eat as much as possible during lunch. But nice surprise, the ice kacang (shaved ice with sweet things put over) which Loh and me shared were very nice.
On the 14th, Loh and me went to watch table tennis in the morning. We saw the cute Ai Fukuhara playing. The Japanese female supporters had anime voices, very high-pitched (Ai-chan, gambate!). I though those high-pitched girly voices are only in anime, actually in real life also got. After that, we went to the silk market, bought a few souvenirs, then got ourselves to the badminton arena.
On the 15th morning, table tennis again (boorinnnng...). In the afternoon, went to the Great Wall in Badaling. Wow! Great weather as well. I'm sure Loh will post some photos. Just wait for it. Later that evening, Loh got a free ticket for badminton where he saw LCW beat LHI. I went to the Bird's Nest and Water Cube instead. Nice.
Loh and I only managed to see Li De Quan on our final day (16th). He was so nice, he came all the way from his cousin's house to our hotel at 8 am. He must have started quite early. We watched Lu Lan lose to Maria Kristin on TV before we had to leave for the airport.

1. If your trip involves a flight (where you both go separately to the airport), make sure he gets to the airport on time. Twice I have travelled with him on flight, and both times, he arrived just in the nick of time. This time, he promised to meet the agent at 7:30 am but only arrived at 9:00 am just before the counter closes. I was this close to having the whole hotel room for myself (darn...)
2. Loh needs his cup of coffee. Budget his cup of coffee into your plan. If not, you will find that after everything is ready-to-go, Loh starts to boil the water for coffee.
3. Be very patient. Loh takes pictures of absolutely everything, so just hang around and soak in the atmosphere. Or go somewhere and arrange to meet at a location if you lose each other.
4. etc
Advice from,
The long-suffering travelling companion of Loh
ps. Actually, not that bad lah, if you prepare yourself for these few things.

Loh and I only managed to see Li De Quan on our final day (16th). He was so nice, he came all the way from his cousin's house to our hotel at 8 am. He must have started quite early. We watched Lu Lan lose to Maria Kristin on TV before we had to leave for the airport.
I've been to Beijing and spent more days there to look around, so in that sense I'm luckier than hcyong.
Indeed it was an opportunity for the scalpers to make some easy money but they had to take the risk in case they couldn't sell the tickets and in case of being caught by the authorities. But I read from this forum that only the 'illegal' buyers will be punished???
We paid RMB700 for a RMB50 ticket (preliminaries) but my colleague had to fork out RMB3,000 for a RMB400 Athletics (100m dash finals). In absolute terms this cost more but in percentage terms our RMB700 ticket is 14 times its face value against 7.5 times that of my colleagues'. I understand that the averge black market for the badminton finals was RMB1,000.
Wangfujing, nicknamed Beijing's Orchard Road, was the venue for our meetings. This is an amazing first-world shopping complex in a so-called third-world country into which China is supposed to be classified. We spent some time together in this area shopping for souvenirs and taking lunch (BadFever, Jason, hcyong and I at the 'Old Beijing') and dinner (Chris, Syaoran Style, Leslie, Jason, Fengwei and I at Food Republic). This place has a peculiar payment system whereby you have to first make a cash deposit in exchange for a cash card to make purchases at the various stalls. With only one card to share among us, our orders took a toll and by the time we almost finished, the management had closed for the evening and we were among a few guests to remain in the building.
In Beijing, most of the public places we visited are new, modern and spacious with a variety of appealing architectural designs. However, it is true that behind the impressive fronts of some of these modern buildings are the small lanes or hotungs that still capture the old Beijing buildings, atmosphere and way of life.
During our departure morning on Aug 16, it was in one of these lanes near our hotel that hcyong, Li De Quan and I sampled some of the local dishes from the small shop-like restaurant. We had large bowls of beef and pork noodles and shared a big plate of dumplings.

Yes he is very young (to me at least) but he is in his third year varsity Chemistry course. He is such a wonderful guy, polite, helpful and kept his promise to visit us in our hotel at 8 am on our departure day just to get our missing autographs, since he already got those of the other BC 'stars'.

4. etc
Advice from,
The long-suffering travelling companion of Loh
ps. Actually, not that bad lah, if you prepare yourself for these few things.
..:)...:D...your sharing makes me giggle...;)
Yes, a few days is definitely too short...:( :p
Concur also about what Loh wrote about Beijing's real "inner city"...
Loh (and other BCers who went with us), please post more of your pics!!;)
loh, looking forward for more pics on court..:D
My dear Chongwei, I'm sorry to disappoint you.
The venue people were very, very strict. I'd been bodily searched and handled by them to see whether I was hiding any dangerous stuff. Luckily one of them was a lady and she couldn't exercise her powers too much. :D
They confiscated my tripod and only Chris was able to take it back from them later. I dared not carry it to the stadium again since then. As a result I did not take any meaningful court pics.
I also missed the official gathering and the baddy get-together because of my tight schedule planned by the tour agency.
But I managed to take some other pics which I will post selectively. :)

I last met Kevin during the Melbourne Commonwealth Games but not Jason, his roommate and BC member under the nickname "Smash_1". So it was great to meet them at the badminton venue for the morning session at Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium (BJUT).
Somehow the construction of BJUT is not spectator-friendly as the stairs leading up to the seats in the gallery above channel spectators from floor level upwards and this incessant movement blocks or interferes with the view of those already seated. It has been most irritating!
When the matches ended, we proceeded to the "Old Beijing" Restaurant for lunch. Yong placed orders for 4 dishes apart from our individual bowl of noodles which had to be mixed with a special dark sauce, something which Jason and Kevin were not quite used to. Out of the 4 dishes, Jason and Kevin took the safe course of partaking only the lamb and the chicken leaving the "cow stomach" to Yong and myself. The other dish of mash beans, I think, was largely left untouched.
On our first evening on August 12, where we met the rest of the BC gang at BJUT, Yong and I ventured into a Korean restaurant to try their hot plate speciality. We chose lamb and pork with buns and quite enjoyed it.
Here are some pics of our mini get-togethers as well as those of the matches we watched. :);):p

A popular spot for both locals and tourists alike. Modern, spacious and full of facilities, it is liken to Singapore's Orchard Road.
We got most of our souvenirs from the Dongan Department Store and seven of us, including Tarek's (Syaoran Style) friend, Leslie from France, took supper at the Food Republic, possibly a Singaporean outfit with the same name, when the stalls were about to close. ;)

..as tickets cost that much.
Fault. But even so, if Tarek is reading this, he should be able to read this thread and give us his HP no....But he hasn't, yet..:p

..it's illegal, either or both ways, to sell overpriced tix.
The situation where the buyer was caught red-handed, right there & then at the spot, happened in front of many people (incl. police/security guards). I wasn't there, but BadFever saw the incident and shared with me.
As for the jacked-up tix prices, that's the way it goes, if one wants to watch the sessions. I, myself, had to pay for 2 overpriced tix myself to watch 2 sessions. After that, i stopped watching the sessions; just too much. One will be lucky to have someone give him or her free tix or slightly a bit more priced tix.:p
On the first evening of our arrival on Aug 12, hcyong and I rushed to meet up with Chris "under the bridge" across the stadium to collect from and pay him RMB700 for a RMB50 badminton ticket. Inflated though the price was, there was no way we could get a cheaper ticket then. :(
It was also the first time that we got to see the rest of the BC group in the stadium, some for the first time like Jason, Syaoran Style, Kemana and Seawell. We chatted animatedly as though we have known each other for a long time! Unfortunately, Li De Quan was not with us as he was patiently waiting outside to secure the autographs of his favourite players. :)
Some of us next gathered at Wangfujing and after some rigorous shopping spree, we adjourned quite late in the evening for a bite at the Food Republic in the vicinity. Hcyong and I shared a large plate of "ice kacang" Beijing style, while the still-growing and very hungry Fengwei gorged down a few small 'baskets' of dim sum. Roti prata was even available and it was passed around by Chris. Leslie, Tarek's friend from France, also joined us and sampled a few spoonfuls of our ice kacang. She liked it! :D

Main course clockwise start from the plate with pink flower
1) Roast Lamb.
2) Soya sauce pork.
3) Some internal organ of whatever. If look closer, the black color were a lot of spiky soft needles shape. Supposed to dip with the curry look a like sauce.
4) Some kind of mixed bean pastry.
5) As for the noodle, it's called "char chiang mien" i think. You can see a small bowl of "black ink" sauce next to my chopstick which is to be mixed with the noodle. The sauce is made of pork lard.
This is my first time having local Beijing food.
The food is too 'exotic' for my taste bud. For me, the best on the table is the cup of tea. Yummm. :p

- Jason, hope you made it to HK this past Friday, as planes, ferries were all cancelled from coming into & out of HK. The weather was bad on that day as typhoon Nuri hit HK & Macau starting on Thursday night. I believe it was the first time in 5 yrs, a typhoon was elevated to no. 9. I guess it's the only way for shops, stores, schools, offices in HK to be closed. Was on a ferry coming back from Macau (on thursday night) and was it a rough 1-hr ride or what..:p
- Speaking about food, tried the Portuguese' egg tart in Macau. I would say, it tasted a bit different, better, IMO, that those sold at KFC. The outer skin definitely has more "crunch".
So, u are back at LA safely already :) Good to know that.

A rainy view, picture taken from inside the taxi on our way to the Olympic Badminton Venue. Inside the taxi were sitting: Tarek, Chris, Kevin, Jennifer and me.

The R&F Club in Beijing where we played badminton. It's a luxurious club pur sang, and everything is chic. Spa's, saunas, tennis courts, table tennis, badminton, basketball, fitness, everything! Only for the richest of Beijing! Thanks to Ian (Glasger) for finding and getting us into this "Club"!

Tarek playing Seawell inside the R&F Club. It was loads of fun! Next time we'll meet again, and spend some more time on the green loving rubber.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1030.jpg
The famous Chinese National University Championshop Men Singles Winner has teamed up with our own Seawell, and is playing Ian (Glasger) and Kevin (BadFever).
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1033.jpg
My picture came out a bit blurred, sorry for that. It's practically the same picture as Seawell took with his camera. From left to right: Fengwei, Famous player, Seawell, Chris, Tarek and Ian.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1034.jpg
The famous BadmintonCentral Kason racket! Kevin bought the cheapest racket BBESports had to offer (Kason brand) so we had enough rackets for the get-together. In the end, everyone just signed the racketbag and Kevin gave the package to Tarek to keep as a souvenir. How cool!
Chris wrote the words on this side of the racketbag. Such famous words :D Shall it once end up in a BadmintonCentral Museum? :p
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1051.jpg
Seawell, Kemana and Tarek sitting inside the waiting room of Quanjude. They were chatting and having a laugh. It took me 5 shots to get them all on the picture. Tarek just kept moving his head, everytime I pressed the button! :D
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1052.jpg
Chris looking up surprised. He was talking to Li De Quan, who is standing in front of him. This picture is also taken in the Quanjude.

Finally, the mysterious Li De Quan! A young man, a friendly man!

The famous Chinese tea-pooring! We were all like "WOW!" Thanks to Chris for making such a wonderful shot!

Our duck is being served! The chef-cook was a lady, and she did it very nicely. It tasted delicious!

We just started eating. I've forgotten what we all ordered, but it tasted great!

A group picture of all of us who went to Quanjude for dinner. From left to right: Fengwei, Li De Quan, Seawell, Kemana, Tarek and Chris. It was a pain to get the camera on a decent height for this picture, but in the end, it was well done!

The famous combination: The Great Wall of China, and the Hollywood-ish banner/board of the 2008 Beijing Olympics!
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1172.jpg
Chris is a true photo-poser! The Great Wall is just behind him, ascending the mountain, and filled with Chinese Flags.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1173.jpg
A stylish picture of Chris inside a small portal. First we forgot to turn the flash on, but the picture turned out to be quite special (black/white/lighting effect)!
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1175.jpg
Same goes for this picture, I really like the effect.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1177.jpg
Here is the new photo we took, using the flash. I believe Chris has been watching too many 50 CENT/G-Unit music videos. It's likes he's rapping something!

A close-up of the huge Banner! It looks really nice up close!
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1193.jpg

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1197.jpg
I look way to tall on this picture Jason took of me. I'm a giant, on top of a giant rock! My head is touching the sky! :p
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1198.jpg
Chris and Kevin needed a break, and didn't come down to take a picture at the cliff/rock. So I just took a picture of them from underneath ;)
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1205.jpg
Jason, such a cool bloke. The scenery was just stunning up there!
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1207.jpg

The Olympic flag, the Chinese banner, and the Beijing Olympic flag! Beautiful composition!

We forgot to take a picture with the BadmintonCentral T-Shirt on the Great Wall, so we took a picture standing next to the big entrance of the Wall. Sorry guys... we just had too good of a time to think of that T-Shirt!
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/00743/IMG_1236.jpg
This is the weirdest and least understandable traffic sign I've ever seen! We were on our way back to Beijing after we left the Great Wall, when we saw it. At the same time, their was a small traffic jam, so we all got out of the car, and took a picture of it. Coincidently Jason came walking into the picture, with a "what-the-...?" look on his face! :D

:p..:o..ai-yo-yo-yo-yo, why so many of my mugs???..:o..but i do think you did enjoy writing all the captions, Feng..;)
I'm nearly in Beijing! 28 minutes to go, woohoo! :D
The new Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital Airport. It's marvelous! Beautiful, huge, clean, modern, everything!
...
The famous "Badminton Feather" sculpture inside the Venue grounds. It's really cool and big.
...
That's a lot of shoes, *drool* :D
...
A lovely view from the top floor of Xin Dong Fang Shopping Mall, the Food Republic place where we ate dinner with Loh, Hyong, Chris, Jason, Tarek, Leslie, and some others who I can't remember right now. Forgive me, it's late at night and I'm quite tired. ;)
...
The R&F Club in Beijing where we played badminton. It's a luxurious club pur sang, and everything is chic. Spa's, saunas, tennis courts, table tennis, badminton, basketball, fitness, everything! Only for the richest of Beijing! Thanks to Ian (Glasger) for finding and getting us into this "Club"!
...
- if you were excited when you were only 28 minutes away from Beijing, imagine how excited i was even before i boarded the plane from LAX. I wished if the plane could've gotten me straight to Beijing without any layover, which was basically a time waster.
- the new Beijing International Airport is really neat; of course, it's still brand new. Too bad i wasn't able to arrive/leave at night to enjoy its roof lights.
- that "Badminton Feather" sculpture is probably the one that taneepak mentioned to us to look out for it; and i believe there were 2 different badminton-themed sculptures; i forgot, was this one made from plastic??..
- the shoes on display in the stores. I think in another shop that we went to, if our azabaz_ipoh were with us, i think we would've spent the whole evening there as she'll probably try each one of those shoes (she has a shoe-fetish, esp. baddy shoes)..;)
- you got the correct list of people. IIRC, there were 7 of us who ate there on that evening.
- the R&F club was the place where the security guard barked at us because we couldn't take any exterior shots but we could take pics of the inside (our playing hall).
...Tarek playing Seawell inside the R&F Club. It was loads of fun! Next time we'll meet again, and spend some more time on the green loving rubber.

Look at this aswell. A amazingly wonderful sky on our way to Badaling Great Wall! The view is amazing!
...
- Wished if the others would've joined us for the badminton get-together & dinner.
- i hope the Kason racket hasn't been put on sale on ebaY, yet..:p..j/k ;)..Yes, we shall see that racket, the next time Tarek comes again for another BC get-together..right, Tarek??..:D
- LI De Quan, yes, a wonderful & low key guy! I hope the next time we meet, we'll talk even more..
- for that tea-pouring pose, i think we had to ask the waitress to stand there & pose for us like 3 or 4 times. The first few times, the pics came out to be either too dark or blurry...But it was kind and generous of her to pose just for the sake of us, BCers & the camera..
- we ordered quite a few dishes. But i think most of them revolved around the theme of duck.
- yes, we were blessed that day, when we went to Badaling, with a clear and beautiful weather. It was definitely a perfect day, weather-wise! Crowd-wise, at Badaling, not so pleasant, but we got through it; thank goodness we went quite early that day.
...Here is the new photo we took, using the flash. I believe Chris has been watching too many 50 CENT/G-Unit music videos. It's likes he's rapping something!

Chris and Kevin needed a break, and didn't come down to take a picture at the cliff/rock. So I just took a picture of them from underneath ;)
...
Jason, such a cool bloke. The scenery was just stunning up there!
...
- haiya, i was having too much fun scaling up that portion of the Great Wall..:p..Actually when i first saw the steps and the incline of that Badaling section, my mind rushed to my experience from last yr when i climbed the stairs @ one of the tourists place in KL. Thankfully, this time it wasn't as bad as last yr's climb.:o
But the massive amount of people clogging up the pathway really made for a unique trek up. It was a bit smoother going down back, though.
The following week (last week), though, when i visited HK and climbed up Ngong Ping (Buddha temple area), i thought to myself, if only i didn't force myself going up the Badaling wall, my legs could be less sore.
- Yes, it was absolutely gorgeous that day; couldn't have asked for a better weather. Even Jason took so many pics at the Great Wall trip. *waiting for his pics to be posted*
this is so funny!
..actually i was planning to go off feet first...until Feng told me, it won't be as thrilling as going off arms and head first..http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/45.gif
...
Great wall looks really busy (Obviously). It is amazing first hand, it seems to go on for ever, in different layers and looks impossible to build.
..yeah, we went on a very busy day, on a Saturday as a matter of fact...But at least the crowd made it more of a slow paced & relaxing climb for us. If not, who knows how many loft sections we would've visited.
When we left Badaling, in the afternoon, the street coming in was jammed with traffic. We then headed to this really mouth-watering dumpling restaurant in the heart of Beijing. Food was delicious, just ask our smashed 1 (Jason).;)
i enjoyed the photos and captions.
How did u guys manage to get the table #8??:D
Isn't it reserved for VIPs only?:p
..eh, how do you know it's table #8 and VIP section, ah?? have you been there before?..We got that section because we were the only ones carrying an entire set of bags; yes, badminton bags, rackets etc. The hosts thought we were professional badminton players.http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/45.gif
Did you guys visit the museum near the entrance to the Great Wall? It houses models and artifacts that explain different sections of the Great Wall that were built in different dynastic eras.
..no, unfortunately we didn't. Our objective (main itinerary that day) was to visit the Great Wall, step on its (restored) stones, take loads of pics, enjoy the scenery and fresh air, get tired (and our stomach empty) going up & down the wall and then...................................scram back home as fast as we can to get lunch.http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/45.gif
Yeah, you guys stood on the Ming section of the Great Wall, relatively new . . .

heihei, fengwei, basicly Xin Dong Fang is a language school. You must mean Dong Fang Xin Tian Di when you talk about the shopping center.
..aih, you know lah, Feng didn't want to keep on chiming about all the good foods and shopping places/centers we experienced lah..;)
Thanks for posting the pics and providing the fun (and creative) captions, Feng. It's okay, you don't have to send me the pics through email as i'll just download the pics from here (if there are any additional ones, just email them to me).
Anyway, it was tons of fun hanging out with Kevin, Jason and Feng!...On that note, Feng, hope we can convene again one day! Maybe to see you again in 2 yrs during the Thomas & Uber Cups in M'sia.....or the Asian Games in Guangzhou, CHN....or..??..;)

Gosh, Chris. Those captions took me hours :p At a certain time, I just didn't have any inspiration left in me. When that happened, I just thought of the cool stuff we did, and something would come back to the surface, becoming a new caption!
No problem Chris, I'll send you all the pictures this weekend (I'll try to make some time). I thought that putting all the pictures in a ZIP file, and uploading that single file to MediaFire would be the best way to do this. Much easier than sending picture after picture through email. The pictures are about 2MB each, so email would be horribly slow (hotmail can only send 10MB per email). I'll have to send you 30 emails then, haha!
We'll definitely meet again during the 2010 Thomas & Uber Cup. I forgot where it is, but I'll be there! If there is a chance, I'll maybe even meet you prior to that! Something like the World Championships or a big Super Series!

Here are all the pictures I took which are directly/indirectly linked to the "BadmintonCentral Beijing 2008 Olympics Get-Together".
I uploaded 4 ZIP files to MediaFire. Total size of all photos is 366 MB, which had to be split into 4 different ZIPS. They are all seperate files, so no linking needed.
Part 1: http://www.mediafire.com/?hitlvmmj5lm (Some random pics of Xi'dan, Wangfujing, Beijing Capital Airport Terminal 3)
Part 2: http://www.mediafire.com/?jzag6cx5ymc (Olympic badminton venue, BBE Shop, R&F Club badminton courts)
Part 3: http://www.mediafire.com/?150jz2omp4g (R&F Club badminton courts, Quanjude dinner, Great Wall Badaling)
Part 4: http://www.mediafire.com/?dggm9m3zsd1 (Great Wall Badaling, Wangfujing Oriental Plaza Mall, Wangfujing night scenery, Random Pictures like Fu Wa)
Just download the parts you want to have. I hope MediaFire will keep it on their servers, but get them fast! Enjoy!

Ah, I did guess it was Malaysia, but I wasn't sure :p Thanks for confirming Chris. I'll definitely be planning that trip soonly, but not this year. Maybe next summer is a more suitable time to make schedules and plans.
After 4 years, it'll be the 2012 Olympics... I'll try to be there, and maybe Jerby shall look into that idea aswell. ;) He hinted he might.
No problem Chris. It was a sad accident, losing the camera. I feel sad for it, as I was the last one getting out of the taxi... definitely not your fault. And Jerby believes I met Rexy. But thanks for making it definite on BC :)
It was no problem, making the ZIP files and uploading them to MediaFire. Only took me a few hours, but I had to go to work at the same time, so it didn't bother me. Enjoy the pics, and if you've got a few of me on your laptop (which you back-upped before), please send me a PM about them. We'll find a way of sending them to me.

Don't forget the WC is also in London in 2011
Maybe Chris should try Scotland and Wales before going to London. That would set the mood for his urge to climb.:D

After 4 years, it'll be the 2012 Olympics... I'll try to be there, and maybe Jerby shall look into that idea aswell. ;) He hinted he might.
...
..yeah, sure, it'll be the 2012 OG. Let me know if you need any help in coaxing jerby to come to the OG in London.;):p..I'll be disappointed if i go there and won't be able to meet up with you and the rest of the other European BCers..;)..
4 years is too long!
:confused:steps? what is the problem with steps - did I miss something?

..4 yrs is perfect brewing time to get ready for another Olympics. If i do go, again, i want it to be a surprise.....going there prior, will make it, sort of "less exciting"..:p
..as for many steps in London's attraction places, pheeeeww, thank goodness there won't be as much. I guess the only steps i'll take will be on those red double-decker buses, eh??....oh wait, they're no longer in service...:p
Yes, noticed the 2011 WC will be in London. So will the 2010 WC which will be in Paris, France...;).................but i think i'll just save my European trip for 2012; might as well hit it off with possibly watching Le Tour de France (if it'll be held somewhat close to the OG)...;):);)
oh, the reason why i asked about "if there are many attractions with many steps in London", Loh sort of answered it below..
Maybe Chris should try Scotland and Wales before going to London. That would set the mood for his urge to climb.:D
..James, it goes back to my trip last yr, to KL, at one of its tourist attraction places. It definitely wasn't my urge to do any climbing. If i had known the Great Wall has cable cars that go up to the top, i might've taken that instead...I never expected to have to climb up so many steps the last 2 yrs (this yr @ Great Wall and HK's Ngong Ping)..my legs are still feeling the after effects..:p:(:o:p
anyway, sorry guys, i'm already feeling giddy for another possibility of an OG get-together...:o:p

Btw, just curious, are there any interesting tourist places, in London, that'll require us to climb up several steps??..
:confused:steps? what is the problem with steps - did I miss something?

You could try, er, the (many towers within) Tower of London :D

I think you're one of a few lucky ones to have been able to sneak into the Water Cube (inside and outside) as well as the Bird's Nest stadium(inside and outside)!! Both are pleasing aesthetically; the latter is really amazing architecturally and the former is dazzling with all its variety of colors light up!!

A popular spot for both locals and tourists alike. Modern, spacious and full of facilities, it is liken to Singapore's Orchard Road.
We got most of our souvenirs from the Dongan Department Store and seven of us, including Tarek's (Syaoran Style) friend, Leslie from France, took supper at the Food Republic, possibly a Singaporean outfit with the same name, when the stalls were about to close. ;)
Hey Loh, would it be possible if you could be so kind to email me a higher res of our pics at "orchard road" They are good ones to put in my album :)
I think your file names are.

Yeah those brown bears were really funny.
The water cube is fantastic at night. There was a music/light show between the lights on the hotel in the background, the water cube colours & the waterjets coming out of the concrete as in 1 of the pics. Something that could be watched for hours!.
I hope Beijing keeps that building forever!
Bed time for me....chat tomorrow!

Like one or two pics each of the Birds Next, Water Cube, etc.? I didn't get a good shot of those, and it'd be lovely to have them in my album.
Thanks again!

No worries at all Feng. sure are good to keep. I'll gather them all tonight.
Thanks to Jason who spared me his ticket, I was able to witness this gold medal match with Kevin on August 15 between Du & Yu of China and the Lees of South Korea.
Earlier on, we witnessed the all-important SF match between LCW and LHI which LCW won in 3 games. I had to break away from my tour group who remained at the Olympic Games Village to take pics of the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube in the night so as to capture the brilliant colours of these two famous stadiums.
The China "tomboys" proved too strong that evening playing to a very supportive home crowd and wrapped up the match in straight games of 21-15, 21-13. The Koreans were further handicapped by an ankle sprain to the shorter Lee although she continued to fight on galantly to no avail.
But all the strains of competition and the disappointments of the Koreans were soon forgotten as they mount the podium to receive their accolades and prizes. All stood to attention as a mark of respect when the winner's country flags were raised and China's national anthem was played over the air. Applause and cheers followed to round up the evening's entertainment.

..be expecting your presence in 4 yrs time in London OG, Yan! Hopefully, at that time, you won't go to France **beforehand** and then travel to Beijing/CHN **during** the actual Olympics...:p ;)
About our fave roast duck restaurant in Beijing, Quanjude, yeah, if just to enjoy the duck, i'd rather try a different restaurant (also recommended by Fengwei).

Hey Yannie!
Yea, Quanjude was nice but if you are just there for the famous Beijing Duck, try to visit a different Duck restaurant. The Quanjude branch name is well known, and it was a nice place to have the get-together dinner, but when it comes down to the food itself, nothing special about it. It's definitely pricey, and not worth it if you're just looking for a simple Duck dinner on your own.
See you in London 2012 then! And who knows, maybe even prior to that! :D
EDIT: Thanks for the compliments on the pictures Yannie! Not all of them were made by me though. After Chris' camera got lost, he made a lot of pics with my cam.

hai fengwei!
yes, when i was in beijing, i was told that quanjude is the most famous beijing duck restaurant.. so that's why i paid a visit there.. but seriously as you said, there's a lot of other restaurants where the duck costs less and is more delicious!!!
yay! hope to see you in london 2012 or even before! oh i see, both of you take great pics then!!! i miss beijing so much now after looking at all your pics!!! hahahahaha!!!
