Same here mate, I'm also looking for a place to play badminton in Beijing. I'm quite familiar with the city, but when it comes down to these things...
I'm going on my own, parents agreed on it. Just turned 16, and it's kind of a birthday present. I already got a place to stay too, my aunt's house. So if anyone could tell me where it's possible to play badminton then, I'd really appreciate it.

As a side note, I guess someone is going to organise a BC meeting during the summer of 2008. Either in the OG period, of somewhat around that time  I'll definitely be in then!

..a bit early but planning a Beijing trip this August..:)

Question:
..does anyone know if we can get a visa to enter China, in/thru
HongKong (I'm guessing U.S. Citizens won't need a visa to enter HK; please confirm)?
I heard we can, but not sure about the procedure/requirements. And if we can get a visa, in HK, how much do we have to pay?...
I'm thinking of entering CHN thru HK and if i can't get a visa in HK, then i have to apply one here in the U.S.
kwun, badMania, Hau-ge, taneepak, Cheung, red00ecstrat, AChan or anyone else who've had similar experience can share or knows? thx a bunch!-:)

It will cost US citizens a bomb for a visa to enter China  You can always apply for the visa at the China Embassy (in fact, I am applying for mine tomorrow :D, which expired a few days ago).

From the website http://www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/zgqz/blsjfy/default.htm
Announcement on the Adjustment of the Regular Visa Fees for U.S. Citizens2008-01-17According to the instruction of the relevant department of the Chinese government, this office will make an adjustment of the regular visa fees for U.S. citizens as of 20 Jan. 2008. The details are as followed:
1,Regardless of the number of entries, the regular visa fee for individual applicant is HK$1020.
2,The Expedited service fees stay unchanged.

4. Applicants may submit in persons or entrust some agencies (agents) to do so

Procedure for application submission

Basic requirements for visa application
...
..appreciate all the infos, badMania!:)...Basically you've answered my question on whether U.S. Citizen can get a visa or not in HK.:)
Yes, i've looked & read on the website of the PRC Consulate in Los Angeles and apparently the rules/regulations are the same as in the website you've shown above. Even the fee is also the same $130 = HK$1020; yeah, quite pricey, i may say.:p..Just that, if i do try to get one there, i might have to wait a bit longer in HK; which i do plan to stay in but after my trip to CHN.

:p..yeah, i know, i'll be squeezed in with like 200 million people..:D..It's okay, once in a lifetime experience...it's still a plan, though and it'd be my first time visiting CHN, so it's somewhat exciting..And if i do go, i probably will attend other sporting events, such as swimming, track & field:)
Thanks, again!

I dont know how much is the invites cost. I was told its the most expensive in the house. Its for both Opening Ceremony and for Badminton ( since they know i like badminton ). Well i have not seen the tickets yet since they have to sent it to me. But its already with my counterpart in China.

It cost me last month but you can apply with 2 entries the most if you apply in HKG......single or 2 entries are same price...

Also if you want to go to Beijing Olympic, you have to apply Special Visa too..

It is not just the stinky tofu. There is the smelly intestine-filled spring rolls, the chewy bamboo pieces, and gourmet duck tongues. I could swear that they gave me slimy worms cooked in black soya sauce (but they insisted it was some kind of vegies cut into worm-like pieces). I hope LCW will not be tempted with such delicacies and stay with home made nasi lemak (tar pau from MAS, fresh from KL).:D

I'll arrive in Beijing on 25-07, but leaving for Tong Hua on the 27th. Back in Beijing on 04-08.
I've got tickets for: 09-08, 10-08, 12-08, 14-08, 15-08. (V11, V12, V14, V17, V18, V21, V22, V23) Not the MS Semis/Finals and MD Finals :( But I'm extremely glad with the tickets I've got :D

Great idea, Ctjcad. A get-together would be really cool. Although I'm not quite familiar with Beijing. Best to get someone else, sorry. :o I'm fine with the idea of a dinner (with or without doufu :p). Meeting you guys can't be worse that eating Choudoufu without knowing, right? :D Can't wait for it.

Let's hope we'll get the lost banner back in time. Otherwise, we could also get a banner made when we're in Beijing. Surely there is a place which does such stuff. Shouldn't cost too much either, I'll gladly put down the money for it. If someone knows a place, please contact me. I'll see if I can get it ordered before I leave for Tong Hua, and maybe it'll be finished when I'm back. Or someone else can pick it up when it's done.

Shall we exchange email addresses and phone numbers? I still need to enquire for my Beijing phone number, and I'm also going to buy a Chinese SIM-card to use on my cellphone. I'll post the numbers ASAP. My email: anfengwei@hotmail.com

Well, I hope someone else can take up the organising job. I'd love to do it, but I just don't really know Beijing that well. And when it comes down to age, it's probably an issue aswell. When a 16 year old kid (1,91 m length though) comes walking in Beijing Duck Restaurant to make a reservation, I don't think they'll take me seriously. Unless I slam a pack of RMB on the reception counter. Then they will! :p

Dont panic lah. If really lost, original BC banner cannot "travel" OG, just make ver 2, exactly like it, to follow Huang, uncle Loh, HCYong, etc to Beijing :D:p
...BC banner ver. 2??..that i think might have to be custom made in China, prior to the Olympics...actually the original BC banner was also custom made in China (through kwun's mom)..
Btw, our Hau-ge most likely will not come along. He'll be taking a must-needed 1 month off (in L.A.) before going on another long trek to follow the SS..;)

smashie is back. but off to family vacation. so i haven't seen her yet...
..uh oh, i hope she didn't bring the same suitcase with her, with the BC banner still tucked away all the way at the bottom..:p ;)

Let's see, how about meeting at the famous Tiananmen Square? We can even do one of this (http://en.beijing2008.cn/spectators/beijing/tour/1day1/index.shtml) day trip thingy within walking distance or <my numero uno preference>...skip all and just go to the mentioned Restaurants for food......Mmmmm...Beijing FOOD, I likey. ;) :) :D :p

Talking about Tiananmen Square, can someone from Beijing please advise what time is considered 'dawn'. Is it 5am or 6am?:eek::eek::crying: Need to go watch the flag rising thingy whatever it is.:confused::p

Otherwise, we can just bump into each other at the Beijing Uni. Gym on 15th. Make sure everyone wears the cool looking BC T-shirt. :p:p:p

Well, if everyone holds up a badminton racket and starts yelling "Badminton Central", we could have a chance of finding each other. But as I'm not that crazy (maybe I am), I'd prefer not to do such, but to meet up somewhere else. Why not at Beijing University of Technology? We could have a prior examination of the venue. Or we can meet up at BBE Sports (Xinlantian). Everyone knows that place, don't they?

Wha, you sure want to know my background :p I don't just study in this small and wet country, I live here. I'm doing Grammar School and play badminton at Duinwijck (same club as Sir Jerby, we're mates :D)

I'm a born Chinese, Shenyang. Moved to Europe at the age of 2. Lived in Birmingham for a few years (no, I didn't know for all those years about the AE... :o) and in 1997 moved to Holland/Netherlands. Still visit China almost every summer, but I want to go there once in winter. Haven't experienced true winters since I left China :(.

The Dutch have practically deserted their old tradition of wooden windmills... all we got now are modern, ugly, extreme huge, windturbine-thingy's which are often painted white, grey, yellow or blue...

That's about it. And I'm pretty tall, but nowhere near as tall as Jerby... I don't dare to flick-serve when I'm facing him! He just holds up his arm, and it's a straight down smash. He's 2,00 meters btw. :D

Friday August 15th is fine, but I only have tickets for the morning program (MD SF's) which are from 10:00 - 13:00. If you guys also have tickets for that morning, we could go inside and promote BC together. Banner, shirts, yelling ;).

BTW: I found out that the OG tickets are travel tickets aswell. It's free to use the bus/underground on the days of your tickets. Also, which is important for our banner-thing: Banner must me max. 2.00 x 1.00 meters

I'll probably help out in organizing and getting everyone in touch, through PM.

..i've sent a PM to some of those names listed above, reminding them of this thread & the possible BC get-together during the OG. The only person i can't get a contact of is TedFong. The rest, incl. the CHN-based members, have been contacted.
Let's wait & see their response...:)

I've almost forgotten our good friend from the Philippines, fastdrop! :p
Although Hau-ge may not want to show up, through him, fastdrop has come to know many Indonesian badminton stars and may well decide to visit Beijing to support them.

Will you come too, fastdrop? ;)

whoa! I haven't been here for a while. Been busy la. But look at you guys! all fired up for Beijing!

Got Chris' PM... Unfortunately, my Beijing dream is crushed! :( With all the rules of only granting visa to those with tickets to the event.. nope... won't be able to make it. SHUCKS!!!

BUT... I'm going to Macau and HK before the OG starts :p (I got the whole week free anyway since already applied for leave way in advanced)

So.. anyway, I'll be watching you guys from home.

Have fun guys!! and most of all.. share your pics and experience!! (so that the pathetic ones like me who can't make it there can still read about it.. at least.. :p)

I also got a reply from Mr. Fault. Yes, he will come, but most likely will be super duper busy (as he is one of the umpires). He told me he will try to make it, though, as long as we give him the infos.
*We'll try to meet & greet him, at least, if by chance he won't be able to make the gathering.

So, i'd probably suggest if we can somewhat have the BC gathering close to the playing venue & maybe during one of the last rounds of the event.

I'll update the list a bit here:

Wow, alright, I'll take up the coordinating job here then. ;)

Abby, could you please send over your contact info, like email and phone number? It would come in handy when we need to organise the meeting.

The list is pretty long now, absolutely amazing! More of us means more fun!

No worries about the banner then, thanks Kwun!

My schedule has changed a bit. I'll be visiting Tonghua tomorrow 26-07, and I'll be back in Beijing on 03-08. So then I can begin planning the meeting.

I propose a dinner in the Duck Restaurant, which would be very nice. BUT, I'd like to have us meeting up somewhere else, where we get to know eachother. And what can help that process, then a good few hours of our favorite game, badminton! If we could rent a venue/few courts somewhere in Haidian, it would be a nice meeting up point. And when we eventually go the the Duck, we'll know eachother much more, which automatically leads to a more pleasurable time for all of us!
What do you guys think?

Chris, I'll be sending you my contact info in PM in a few minutes. The battery of this laptop is dying on me, so please send it to the others. I can't risk losing connection!

As for the no. of people coming to the gathering, we don't have the official no., yet. Although, the list above should indicate how many BCers are planning to come to the Olympics.
(Usually in other cases, BCers would put their names on the list, but in actuality won't show up). Hope this time around, most if not all in the list would be able to show up for the get-together.
I assume you'll be there for the OG, LI De Quan??..:)

For the idea of dinner & get-together being separate, that sounds good, too; although, usually, the dinner is what most people will look fw to:p;).
Yes, if you can set-up /reserve a place for us to play some baddy, that would absolutely help. Btw, where and how far is Haidian from Beijing? We'd probably need to set up a time & date also if we're going to play a bit of baddy.

Okay, i'll be waiting for your contact info and keep it handy, esp. for those BCers coming to Beijing.:)

I just watched a live CCTV9 Press conference on "Technological Innovations Beijing Olympics", and there was a mention about the badminton stadium having some sort of a "Feathers" (no, not plastics skirt) theme in some of its structural columns. For those who will be there just keep an eye and see if you can see something with feathers.

Chris, I'm already in China. At the moment in Tong Hua, but arriving back Beijing on the 3rd of August. I'm sorry for the PM-thing. My battery eventually did die on me when I was typing the phone number... So I'll be sending it over asap. When are you arriving in Beijing?

Could all BC members who are going to be at the get-together PM/post their contact info aswell? When the time comes, and sudden chances are made (just in case of), we can contact you.

Haidian is a region inside Beijing. Usually quite easy to get to, and the head office of the BOCOG is also located there. I shall need to ring a few phone numbers to see if I can find a suitable venue which we can rent. Maybe Abby and Li De Quan can help me with that. I happen to know it's possible to play and rent badminton courts on most University campuses. Also, I'll have to call the Duck, to see if we can have a table booked on the 15-08, after we have played baddy. We however need a definite time schedule soonly, because I can't call and tell the receptionist "somewhere on the 15-08 in the evening". So that needs to get fixed too.

I've got 1 ticket on the 15-08, I believe it's the morning program. We could meet up with the BC members who have tickets for that same program, and see the match together. After that, we can go to the venue together and meet the rest who didn't have tickets. That way we'll still meet eachother.

Li De Quan and Abby, could you please both send over your contact information. It would be much easier and better organised if we team up on this job.

Fengwei,
thanks for keeping everyone in tune.
I'm scheduled to arrive on the 9th of August, early evening.
Thank you for the info about Haidian and a possible place to play. Hope we're able to get that scheduled.
As for the get-together dinner/meal, we can do it after the 1st session, or before the 2nd session or just after the end of the 2nd session of the event (this will depend on the place to eat's hours of operation). But most likely we'll do it on the Friday, the 15th. If not, we can re-schedule it on a different day/date.:)
*Last, keep PMing LI De Quan and Abby飘, if you haven't gotten their replies.

Another update. red00ecstrat just PMed me and won't be able to come to Beijing.

Close to the badminton venue (East), or more towards the other side of Beijing (West)?

If it's a convenient location, we should definitely go there!

I was actually referring to the Duck at Wangfujing Plaza. I always heard thatwas the best and most famous Duck in Beijing? If some one knows a better one, please let me know. However I thought the Wangfujing one was the most convenient, as it's a well-known spot.
Hm..this one is good too..Wangfujing Quanjude Duck restaurant..
I ate there before..it must be located somewhere Dongcheng district....it is same branch with others

Thanks Sir Huang! I didn't have a precise look at your list, but it seems like you recommended the same one as Chris posted above. Quanjude... mmm! I'll have to look it up, because I'm not too familiar with the Chongwen District. On which side of Beijing is it? Close to the badminton venue (East), or more towards the other side of Beijing (West)?

If it's a convenient location, we should definitely go there!

EDIT: Let's just try to pick the best one, on the best location :D We can't possibly visit every single one of them.

Quanjude has several branches....I am not sure where you want to go...but I have the name card...

Hey Loh,

Remember to take pics and post 'em quick as it happens. Sorry can't join u guys, work and automobile convoy commitments (not to mention, Stadium ASTRO, live).

Hey Bro,

What a shame you couldn't join us as without you and Rudy, we seem to be missing a part of us.

A tall order from you as I only get to see some badminton matches since we will be given the games tickets on the day itself. Although I specified badminton as priority, they may have limited tickets for this and we may have to be satisfied with watching some table-tennis for example. The tickets come from the Spore Sports Council.

Another problem is that I have no lap top and hope that hcyong could bring his along to help transmit some pics to BC.

Do enjoy your live matches at home. :)

Yes. Well, this time my commitment is with my Auto Clubmates, we are doing this annual long distance convoy thing with our Singaporean counterparts, on the first 3 days of competition at the Olympics. And most being non-sportsmen, they don't miss the Olympics as long as there are fairways, buggies and beaches.

Fortunately for me, there's Stadium ASTRO where we are going.

Enjoy the Games!! :D

You guys should go that I have recommended........

Also check with Da Dong Roast Duck ( I have never eaten there but my Indonesian friends who have been living in Beijing in the past 15 yrs recommend this one)

Also Li Qun Duck restaurant, a few block south from Tiannanmen square....I ate there once...really good too

..whoah, so much mention of the name, but i guess Hau-ge was referring to the Quanjide's Wangfujing branch. And that apparently is the DUCK restaurant our Fengwei was referring to, also.:p

Okay, if Wangfujing is not too far from the Olympics place/badminton area, i think that sounds like a plan. If it's a bit far, then maybe it's best to choose one near the Olympics area (from the list given above).
Fengwei, if you need to make a reservation ahead of time, just go ahead..Btw, how far is Wangfujing to the Olympics area??
Now we just need to set a date and time>>we probably should set the get-together date before the 16th..

Well, let's make sure you'll enjoy it then, Kamana.

By the way: I rescheduled once again! I'll be back in Beijing on 02-08 in the afternoon. I'm leaving Tong Hua on 01-08.

Chris, I need to check if Wangfujing is close to the badminton venue. As far as I can remember, it's quite close. But this means I need to find a venue where we can play some badminton, in that region aswell. I need some help with that, because I'm not quite familiar with that District. Kamana/Abby/Li De Quan, got some idea?

Also, if I book at Quanjude, I'll try to book a private room for us. Chris, could you make a new list of how many of us shall be there? I'll need to give them a guest-count.

Also, we need a definite date and time schedule of that day. Could some one arrange that?

..thank you Fengwei, once again, for helping. We (overseas BCers) are lucky to have you and the rest of the Beijing BCers helping out for this get-together.

As for the list of how many of us can join the BC get-together, i think for now, we can use the list of names, above. Although, for confirmation we just need to contact each other through HP.

How far are the other branches of Quanjude restaurant to the Olympic badminton venue? How far is the badminton place, in Haidian, to the Olympic badminton venue?

Syaoran_Style, any other suggestions from you??..:)

I notice, in this map (http://en.beijing2008.cn/emap/index.shtml), Wangfujing is near Tiananmen square and the badminton venue (Beijing University of Technology gymnasium) is located south east of Wangfujing, near Sifang bridge.

If by chance Wangfujiang is a bit far, then i notice there's another restaurant, Dadongfang seafood restaurant?? nearby the badminton venue.
Are there any other Quanjude branches near the badminton venue??..

Fengwei

Well, Quanjude's Wangfujing branch is still reasonably close to the Olympic venue. Haidian is way too far, in that case. Anyone know a venue where we can play which is located between Wangfujing and the Olympic venue? That would be the best place.

As a start, I'd definitely recommend taking taxis. It's easier and faster than the other transportation methods (unless there is a traffic jam). If you take a taxi, it'll just be more convenient.

We could always just meet at the Olympic Badminton Venue. That would be the easiest way. Everyone knows that place, and some of us have tickets for the morning program on the 15-08.

I'll be going to Wangfujing tomorrow (shopaholic... sorry :D) and I'll try to go by Quanjude when I'm there. Otherwise, I'll call them tomorrow. I'll just try to book a table for around 20 of us. If there is no place for us, we shall need to find a different place to have "eat-and-meet" :p

We haven't found the to be rented baddy venue yet. Anyone, please help us.

That's all from me now, I'm off to bed.

Thanks to our great fellow BC member Glasger we have finally got a venue where we can play badminton.

We have agreed on a quite modern and very nice venue, where we can play a few hours badminton prior to the dinner at Quanjude's.
The venue location (R&F Club) is right in the middle of the route from Quanjude (Wangfujing) and the Olympic venue. From the Olympic venue, you must take a taxi, but from the R&F Club, you can take the subway directly to Wangfujing!

The address:
R&F Club
北京朝阳区东三环中路59号 - No. 59, East Third Ring Road (Middle)
Phone:
010-58622277‎

If you tell the taxi driver "Fu Li Cheng" (R&F City), he should be able to find it. "R&F" means Rich & Fit which is translated to Chinese "Fu Li".

http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/9023/rfclubpn6.th.png (http://img382.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rfclubpn6.png)
Here's a picture Glasger put together to make it easier to find.
__________________________

Now we got the playing venue settled, we need a detailed schedule. Glasger is renting 4 courts for us, but he needs an exact time. And I need an exact time aswell.

Has anyone got tickets for the afternoon program on 15-08? If not, we can go and rent the few courts for in the afternoon, and go to Quanjude around 18:00 hours for dinner. If someone has got tickets for the afternoon program, we need to shift it all a few hours later. Unless that person finds this meeting more important than their ticket.

Please confirm you are free in the afternoon, everybody!

The location of the venue is inside the blue box, but on the right side. Close to the words 东三环. If you have a map of Beijing, try looking it up. That way you'll know a bit where you are.

Huang, it definitely wasn't my work here. Glasger takes full credit, it was he who helped me when I asked him if he knew a place where we could rent a view courts on the 15-08. He just gave me all the details, and I posted them up here. Glasger's a great guy, and one of the very view BC members I have on my MSN Messenger list.

9. Mr. Fault
10. LI De Quan
11. seawell
12. kemana - still needs tickets
13. Glasger

...anyone else, please feel free to add your name to the list. Thanks- :)

Thanks to our great fellow BC member Glasger we have finally got a venue where we can play badminton.
...
..great to hear!
As for the schedule for the baddy game get-together, i think it's best if you and glasger decide on that. I have a feeling not all of us will come and convene for the baddy get-together action. But just go ahead and book the date & time and we can always work around that.

Fengwei has done a very good job here.......
Salute!!!
..i second and third and fourth the same sentiment & salute.:) Thank you also to glasger for his help. And yes his name has been added to the list..:)

Anyway, Fengwei, looking fw to your detective work for the Quanjide restaurant. Another thing if you don't mind finding out is what time will the restaurant closed (on weekdays or weekends)?? If they close late, maybe we can go there at night time.
If we need to take taxis, that's no problem also.

In the meantime, i think perhaps we should all meet up & gather at the badminton venue (for those who are coming to watch/have tickets), first, and from there we can finalize everything.
Another member, wocdam, can only be there for a few days, so we'll try to accommodate him (i think only from the 11th til 13th or 14th).

*Syaoran_Style, thanks for all the infos.

Thanks for organising everything, Fengwei & Glasger. Salute!!! :)
I will be free between 1pm til 6pm on 15th Aug. I will try to join you guys during that time. Otherwise, I am pretty sure we will bump into each other in the Badminton venue.

See you guys very soon.

Here's a picture Glasger put together to make it easier to find.
__________________________

Now we got the playing venue settled, we need a detailed schedule. Glasger is renting 4 courts for us, but he needs an exact time. And I need an exact time aswell.

Please confirm you are free in the afternoon, everybody!

First thanks to Fengwei and Glasger for making the arrangements. Much appreciated.

Somehow I could not view the 'picture' or map of the badminton venue that Glasger has inserted.

I need to double-check my intinerary to confirm whether I could join in the badminton game.

On Aug 15, we are supposed to watch the Men's & Women's Table-tennis Team Bronze play-off from 9am. Then in the afternoon there is a half day city tour to the Great Wall (Juyongguan).

My full schedule given by the tour company:

Aug 12 - Arrival in Beijing 1530hrs (Free for the rest of the afternoon.)
(This is a possible day for hcyong and I to interact with fellow BCers)

Aug 13 - 10.00hrs Badminton - WS QF, MD QF, WD SF (BUT);
19.30hrs Table tennis - WT Gp 2nd Rd, MT Gp 2nd Rd. (PUG)

Aug 14 - 10.00hrs Table tennis - Men's & Women's Team Group 2nd Round;
18.30hrs Badminton - XD and MS QF

Aug 15 - 09.00hrs Table tennis - Men's & Women's Team Bronze play-off;
Afternoon: Half day city tour (Great Wall of China)

(BUT - Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium)
(PUG - Peking University Gymnasium)

Aug 16 - 15.25hrs Departure from Beijing for Singapore

We may sacrifice Aug 15 morning for something better. Hcyong and I would like to steal whatever available time to see more of Beijing. Unfortunately we have very limited time to do so. But we would certainly like to meet up for at least once, like the dinner gathering, if we are unable to meet in the badminton venue. :)

My instinct tells me that booking 4 courts may be one too many unless you are sure that many BCers can play.

..at several itineraries and schedules, these dates are probably the best for a get-together, with everyone on the list being present:
Aug. 12th (Tue.)
Aug. 13th (Wed.)
Aug. 14th (Thur.)

Can Fengwei check the availability of these dates @ Quanjude? Afternoon, early evening or late night?..thanks:cool:

..thank you Ms. Louisa; wish if the same gang that went to the TC&UC tourney, recently, could join us as well...anyway..
However, unlike in Jakarta where you guys had so many different dishes to taste, this OG's get-together, if held at Quanjude restaurant, could feature only 1 dish... ;)

Alright, I've been to Quanjude today.

They are only open during 16:30 - 21:00 hours each day the upcoming week. That means, we can only eat there between those hours. In the morning and noon, it is only open to Official Olympic Guests.

We sadly can't get a Private Dining Room. You have to pay a "check-in fee" of 300 RMB per person for that, and the food they serve is pre-selected. It's a kind of package what you get. "Tao Can" in Chinese. The package has to be a minimum amount of RMB. Examples are 3000, 5000, 6000 and 8000 RMB. It's too complicated, and I think it's much easier for us to just pick the food when we get there. This means we shall have to eat in the normal dining hall. Which is still very luxurious. :D The receptionist said the hall is rarely full, so we should be able to find tables if we just come dropping by as a group.

The meeting shall have to be held on the 15th, because booking the courts needs to be at least 1 week in advance, and Glasger is booking them tomorrow morning.

I'm fine with meeting at the badminton venue in the morning. I've got a ticket for the morning program on the 15th. Anyone else got a ticket for that program? We could go together.

08-07-2008, 09:42 AM
..thanks, Fengwei, for finding out those infos..:)

So, i guess we're pretty much "stuck", if we're going to the Wangfujing branch, with their business hours.
Do their other branches have the same business hours? Or only this branch? Is it possible for you to check??
How do others feel about the time??
If their hours during those times are between 4:30 - 9:00 pm, then perhaps we can be there a bit earlier??
As for the pricing, does anyone else feel the "check-in fee" of RMB300/person (about $44/person) is okay/reasonable??..

Back-up plan alternatives??...:)

Badminton get-together activity is fine, if you want to book it on the 15th.:) We'll work around that date and i think, as mentioned by Loh also, at most 2 courts would be enough. Btw, how much is the court rental fee?

Okay, i think we've almost narrowed our plan for the get-together. Anyway, hope we can convene at the badminton venue, first, before the 15th.

You guys are lucky... I'm stuck to watching Olympics badminton on TVRI!!! I heard they're gonaa give mostly 'delayed' matches... :o No $$$ for live broadcasts...

I've just called Glasger and he's going to book 3 courts on 15-08, from 15:00 - 18:00.
The estimated price shall be 80 RMB per hour per court. Which would result in about 60 RMB per person.

I have also had telephone calls from Seawell and Abby. Both shall try to be at the badminton courts aswell as the dinner.

I hope everyone is happy with the planning like it is.

Fengwei

Hey Chris, I haven't asked about the other branches, but nevertheless, those branches are way out of the closest route. Best to stick to this I guess.

After the badminton, we can go to Quanjude Wangfujing and arrive there at an estimated time of 18:45.

I find the 300 RMB fee "ok", but I can't pre-select the food package. Chinese isn't that good when it comes down to reading, and I don't know what everything is on the menucard. So if you do want to book a Private Dining Room, please send another Beijing'er there to book it. :D

So we're meeting up at the Olympic Venue then? At least the ones who are haveing tickets for the morning program. Chris, have you got tickets for the morning program?

The others may just meet at the R&F Badminton Courts. See page 12 of this thread for exact details on location and phone number of the Club.

..okay, i guess for now, that'll be the plan for the get-together. I guess for those wanting to watch any badminton match on Friday night (the 15th), they'll have to sacrifice watching those matches.
For Loh and hcyong, who are going for a city tour on the 15th, my guess is they'll probably miss the get-together baddy event. But most likely (hopefully) will convene with us for the dinner get-together??

Yes, we'll plan & try to meet first in the badminton venue, before the 15th; even for those who don't have any tickets to watch. Fengwei, will it be possible for you (and glasger) to come for that as well??
I'll try to gather up everyone on the list for a brief get-together (take some pics), so, at least, we'll have some memories..:);)

You guys are lucky... I'm stuck to watching Olympics badminton on TVRI!!! I heard they're gonaa give mostly 'delayed' matches... :o No $$$ for live broadcasts...

Chris, Glasger and I shall do our utmost best to be able to join you for that brief get together. That way, Loh and Hcyong shall be on the picture aswell :D Just mention a time and date.

Chris, have you got the cell phone numbers of everyone who are going to join us? I heard the R&F Club is quite hard to find, it's in the R&F City (Fu Li Cheng). Which is quite large, Abby told me. If you have their phone numbers, and they have yours, it'll be no problem if someone gets lost finding the courts.

Yes, sorry for the ones who have tickets for the afternoon program on the 15th. Either they need to sacrifice their tickets, or miss out on this wonderful get together.

Woop! We did it!

..i have the contact numbers of most of the BCers whose names are on the list (and they have my temporary one as well). Except a few, who are still pending for a contact no. but will get back to us. I shall provide my Beijing contact no. once i'm there..

I'm arranging the brief get-together at the venue esp. for those who possibly can't meet us for the get-together on the 15th.;)

Fengwei
08-07-2008, 10:26 AM
Woosh, good to know you're in charge now then. Shall await your plans then for the brief meet-up at the stadium.

Somehow, you keep forgetting my short question Chris :D You attending the morning program on the 15th? ;)

ctjcad
08-07-2008, 10:34 AM
:p..sorry; for that question, the answer is : i'm planning to.:) However, since my schedule will probably be quite hectic, there's no guarantee, i can fully attend the morning session on the 15th. I think i'll be there most of the time, at least on the first 3 days of competition (9th through 11th, although the one on the 9th will be a bit challenging as i'll be arriving in the city at night:p) and maybe sporadically throughout the rest of the week (plannig to see other sporting events and have a couple of city/sightseeing tours as well).
I heard, from a contact friend there, tickets for the final 3 days of badminton are hard to get (and quite expensive)..:p

Fengwei
08-07-2008, 10:52 AM
Alright then, but we shall be meeting up at the Olympic venue on the 15th, right? Quite easy then.

I've got tickets for:
09-08 Morning + Evening
10-08 Evening
12-08 Morning + Evening
14-08 Morning + Evening
15-08 Morning

Chris, and anyone else, also going to a few of these? If you also have both morning and afternoon on one day, maybe a lunch between those 2? :D

Chris, could you send over the complete list of contact information? I'll copy it over onto my (paper! :D) notebook. In case anyone gets lost, or needs help.

The tickets for the last 3 days are... well difficult to get. I ordered 12 tickets in April this year, but only got 8 of them. If I was smart and ordered last October, I would have got not only ALL the badminton tickets, but also those for the Opening Ceremonie... stupid me!

ctjcad
08-07-2008, 04:59 PM
..i'm sure many people would love to have half of your 8 tix..:p;)

Anyway, i think for now we'll just set the get-together schedule like this:

Aug. 12th (Tue.) - we'll convene sometimes after the morning session. And looks like all the BCers will be in town.

Aug. 15th (Fri.) - we can convene in the venue. Then go for the baddy get-together.

I'll send you a PM soon for all the BCers', who are going, contact numbers.

May I remind you guys that, in order to play badminton, apart from courts, we also need at least some racquets to play the game. Sorry, I just feel kinda funny cos no one mentioned about racquets all along. Does that mean you guys are going to Beijing with racquest?
