LCw played really well. despite losing the first game, he was in control for most of the match. he sensed that CJ was starting to get out of breath in the end of the 2nd game, he was poking and testing to see how far he could stretch CJ. amazing that LCW has so much in reserve as he didn't seem too bothered by fitness throughout the whole match while CJ was obviously suffering.

LCW also played better net shot, Cj was avoiding netshot but instead moving LCW around the court but that strategy didn't work too well as LCw has a lethal drop that troubled CJ many times.

CJ seemed to have prepared a suitable counter-strategy but still he isn't a consistent performer to pull it off. Superior defense by LCW in the later parts of the match, blunted CJ's confidence on offense and pretty much took him out of the game. The final is gonna be a tough one and should make for an exciting match.

Winning is all that matters and I'm happy that LCW won because he is one of my favorite players to watch. I just think that he played more minutes than needed to beat CJ. The only times where he pulled away in the match were the times when his offense was keeping CJ honest on defense.

Looking forward to the final, BCL is a much better player than CJ and you definitely do not want him getting closer to the net often. Do we get a repeat of their France Open or Denmark Open matchup? Let's see what LCW comes up with. :)

Probably, it takes another 2 years to develop a really consistent pair that could be challenged mentally and physically, in the year 2009/2010 maybe?

Actually Guo/Xie are China's 2nd MD Pair, not on par in skills to CTF/LWW. But our uncles.... or rather CTF making so many errors..<sigh>

In Europe when Rexy not with them, they (KKK/TBH, CTF/LWW) played better. Too much pressure from just knowing Rexy is sitting there?

LCW nowadays play it cool. In France, he wasnt tested in Semi against CJ cos of CJ's injury. Finals LCW sure go all out.

It's not about coach is around or not, it's the pattern of MAS style.
If they are feeling good, they go all out like hungry tiger ready to eat their prey. But, when they are nervous or pressure to win or coach is
watching or over-confidence or etc....they play like an amateurs, like a mice .... really10x bad! Sure no fighting one!

Now I remember - for CTF/LWW their nervous energy is from inside themselves. Rexy wasnt with them either in Thailand and Demark Opens, still they lost early rounds. Remember the embarasing lost to the US pair?

For KKK/TBH, lately they seem to do better wihout Rexy there. Just Pang to guide them- provided they are not injured or sick. Maybe should try that for KKK/TBH only. WC, Japan Open, Rexy there, they panic and lost. Macau, Denmark, Rexy not there, they won.

The rest, :(, Rexy there or not, doesnt matter, they still inconsistent.

That interview was after they won AE 2007. Rexy said he took 2 years to "Asah mental pemain" . Develop mental strength, Rexy feels is still far off if compared with Indonesia, at least when he compare to himself and Indonesian players of his time. He means the fighting spirit, fight till the end.

Current Malaysia players are famous for buckling under pressure.

CTF/LWW lost to GUO/XIE two years ago in China Master Open in straight sets. So why would the result today surprise anybody?

1) Cos along the way CTF/LWW have beaten Fu/Cai, China's no 1 pair, the current world no 2. all fired up too when they did it. They have also beaten Kido/Setiawan, current World no 3. These two pairs are better than Guo/Xie.

2) COs they should have won if not nervous, they are better in terms of skills. World no 5 lost to World no 13. Though not as bad as KKK/TBH lost......

3) That was 2 years ago. CTF/LWW have improved since.

But I give credit to Guo/Xie, they've improved since Phillipines Open.

I think the poem is apt : Malaysian MD pairs beat top pairs, but easily beaten by lower ranking pairs. This tourney shows it.

Who told u HH is the strongest MS in Msia? He nvr won anything since AE.
KKK/TBH record of winning 6 titles in less than 1 year partnership doesnt appear to me as mentally weak. Their attitude of underestimate low rank players cost them these loses, but im sure they will learn from it.

Agree. Actually I thought he played in FO carrying the injury so that's worse than in CO where he's playing to prevent the injury flare up.He was anticipating opponent better in FO and took risks. OK maybe here CJ's not injured and has done more updated video homework. But his FO games were more exciting to watch.WMC is so cool cos she's so fearless.She has improved so much ZN got nervous and lost.

The veterans were a real disappointment. Poor poor attitude. They only enhanced the general perception fans have of them - they play extremely well only against their compatriots, or when the odds are against them.

When they got a run of points, they'd make a show to the opponents. They never learn.

Getting a little further than their compatriots, esp. KKK/TBH is good enough. No need to win. Because by going further they seem to consider that they have won.

I assume it's a statement of your dissappointment. KKK/TBH are not big headed. As stated by others in the "why KKK/TBH lost thread", they were looking depressed in post-match intv and admitted : 1) 1st set they didnt play tight and wrap up the game 2) after losing 1st set, they sorta lost confidence.

For KKK/TBH, it's more they are under pressure to win, win, win all the time (much, much criticism each time they lose, whether to unheralded pairs or top pairs). They're learning to cope.
I have a soft spot for the young TBH, his type of character would think being top pair is high pressure rather than glamorous. He'll rather play and be low profile the rest of the time.

Yes true, the other younger MD pairs should step up to the plate and win
something. When CTF/LWW retires, greater pressure on KKK/TBH.

1) If you're talking about KKK/TBH, they are not big headed like what many think. They are under a lot of pressure, under pressure too much, panic, panic cant win. Ask Ants, he knows them personally.

2) Zakry/Fairuz - they didnt underestimate the taiwanese, Fairuz got nervous in 3rd set, as usual. That's what Huang said Rexy told him.
This pair's prob is getting nervous, doubting themselves, esp Fairuz. So, it's not underestimating, it's overestimating opponents.

They already went to see the sports psyhcologist a couple of times - mental strength not strong enuf.


3) CTF/LWW - the veterans, well, once again, under pressure, they under perform.

Agree with the pressure. Not easy to maintain at the top. Even Lindan finds it hard to sustain it. So, lets enjoy when your favourite player wins and give credit to the player/s that won. No point bashing them. Once you are at the top, people will notice every stroke you make because they are the contender and everyone wants to beat them. They are being analyzed every single game. That's why it may be a good idea to split up the pairs for a while before re-combining them back again. Confuse opponents mah... of course its subjective lah. There's always agreement and agree to disagree. Enjoy...

Wow this the 1st time for a long long time Mas has representative in both the MS and WS finals of a mojor GP tournament. Mas WS used to be whipping girls and cannon folder for the Japanese ladies not to mention INa and Chn.

Way to go WMC.

LCW is shaping up well. Didint crumble under pressure played a safe game and I think a very actuarist game.

LCW do not go for risky shots these days. Avoiding sideline smashes, if he smash at all. I believe he was already having the final with BCL in mind given that BCL have at least a good day rest in QF with CH gifted the semi spot to BCL in the grand machinations of the China BA.

as an old badminton fan, and not as a Malaysian, i find LCW's recent style absolutely beautiful. the Chinese commentator commented LCW is "Luan Zhong Tai Jian" that is carrying a sharp sword covered with soft feathers.

The main weapon is his deception. Chen Jin was left guessing all the time what LCW's play. Just when you think he is hiting a smash he hit a drop, or lob. The think is that LCW is going with the flow, whilst his opponetnts thus far are doing to much thinking about LCW's shots and not concentrating on their own strengths.

LCW has combined the footwork of Morten Frost, the Lobs and chops of Misbun, the defensive dives of Foo Kok Keong and the deception of Zhao Jian Hua.

He was constantly varying the pace of the shuttle, from slow soft to slow hard and then fast soft or hard fast. CJ was just following LCW pace and unable to unleash the type of fast and powerful attacking game Chn players are known for. The game is beautiful to watch. The deceptive smash that disguised the drop in the 3rd game was perfect, his neck stiffen, racket pulled to the back but soft touch right at the time of contact was something hardly seen these days. The back hand half smash to the sideline was also a beauty.

His game has won fans in Europe ans I believe amongst the Chinese too when you hear the applause the spectator gave him after the match.

To beat LCW, BCL either have to play faster and more power than LD, or he have to play LCW's game, of patiently waiting for the kill. Many points was lost by Cj because he was not patient enough.

I think this is because of the inflexible nature of the Chinese coaching method of emphazising speed and power. Chinese players can play a stroke base game but it takes longer for them to adjust styles.

So if BCL can get his mental strength together and play patiently he has a equal chance of winning other wise he wil end up like Chen Jin.
