I'm not disputing the line calls. Yes, they were suspicious. My point is that from watching the match, Bao was the better player, much better actually. Therefore I think he would have won regardless. And if LCW was that good, he would have had the mental strength to deal with the situation better and perhaps overcome it.

Let me put it this way, even if LCW was mentally strong enuf and played well, there would still be other bad line calls and faults, so he would not have won anyway.
Taufik or Lin Dan, the OG champ and WC champ, would have walked out straight away. Would you call them as not mentally strong enuf??

Korean MD walked out, forfeited the match in protest after 8-9 bad line calls, I think. Even 5 wrong calls would have cost the match.


As many others have posted, yes, Bao could have won, but would have been a very close 3 setter, and that considering LCW not in top form today. Bao was making mistakes towards the end.

Unfortunately, the bad line calls undermine the entire game and also one's assessment of the players' performances. When one player is leading and loses his focus owing to bad line calls, the opponent's 'performance' from that point onwards does not reflect his real form. A player's form and performance in a match is relative to his/her opponent's performance. If his/her opponent does not lose focus and can execute smart game plan with good attacking and defending skills, the player's performance may not be as great. The fact that BCL started to pick up successive points after several bad line calls that affected LCW's concentration is not only unfair to LCW. It is also unfair to BCL, because it makes it impossible for one to judge the true performance and form of BCL. We cannot say that he was in smashing form or was performing superbly when LCW's loss of concentration does not allow the latter to perform well. Had LCW's performed well, BCL might or might not perform as well as what he did. So the fact that LCW has been prevented from performing his best in such an unfair manner makes any assessment of BCL's performance unjustified. We must not lose sight of this.

Thanks for this! I've skimmed through it and am impressed to find that many Chinese fans are very fair and rational. Many say that they do want BCL to win but think that this match does not reflect BCL's true form and performance. They even say that they are ashamed of the the unfair treatment given to LCW. Of course, there is nothing wrong on BCL's part. He is a victim too - his effort has been wasted because his performance in such an unfair situation does not reflect his true form.

Bad calls, if intentional, are only done if they think the players needed help. BAO certainly needed some in the 1st game as well as the 2nd. After the bad call at 11-10 (or thereabouts when it was still close), LCw just faded and ended 21-12.
Bad calls are also well-timed. Usually in the beginning , to unsettle the victimised player and at the end, to quicken the close before the favoured player fumbles.

Most of them were disgusted with the performance of the empires and line judges. They agreed it was a disgrace to the badminton sport and to China.

Some were saying other countries can do that why not China. They in fact support the performance of the empires and line judges and even suggest China to do more of that in the future.

Personally I think the people who support the empires and line judges are not badminton fans. They are trying to pollute the sport and throw the image into the drain.

Sigh....a sad day for badminton.....how about lowering the "BWF flag"?:D

The fact is, BCL didn't need the judge to win this game.

I'm not disputing the line calls. Yes, they were suspicious. My point is that from watching the match, Bao was the better player, much better actually. Therefore I think he would have won regardless. And if LCW was that good, he would have had the mental strength to deal with the situation better and perhaps overcome it.

Unfortunately, the fact that LCW's performance has been affected by loss of concentration in such an unfair manner renders any assessment of BCL's performance unjustified, given that a player's performance and form is relative to his/her opponent's performance.

I believe, only if LCW wasn't distracted as early as the match started by those bad line calls, he would have full concentration and may have executed his game plan with precision. BCL may be shaken and intimidated. He may not even raise his game. Usually when you know that the umpire and linesmen are on your side, and your opponent is rattled, you will gain in confidence and play better.
..IF BCL felt that he's being "helped" by the linejudges & calls that went his way, he could've just toned back his aggressive playing style. But no, he maintained, if not upped his pace and kept LCW on his heel, not giving LCW much chance to regroup & employ his exquisite baseline cross court shots, like he did in the previous rounds..

It's easy to imagine that you, as a spectator, could rise up to the challenge and do one better than the losing side but the reality is that when you have a long battle to go with the environment on a hostile footing to you, it sucks the fighting spirit off you.

Bad calls to LCW (at least 3 times, our commentator admit that as well), and Bao became furious, what if urself having this condition? To ensure that Bao can enter semi and final, lots of biased calls from the umpire, line judges and service judge, and the team even order CH to walkover? This is even worst than Jones's drugs case, r u going to do this during the OG? If continue like this, how can LD, Bao's mental strength getting better? What a waste for all these badminton talents...and this help LCW n others to train their mental strength.

National badminton will "FINISH" if continue like this, and even worse than national football.

I think the two Europe SS is the most fair tournaments.I am very satisfied with Demark SS,its look so well organize and the live broadcasting was very good and clear.In my memory,i don't think so there are any unfair incidence happening.

I think China still dominate badminton world in next 2 years. Only sometimes other players could break through the great wall. However, winning of WMC and Tine Rasmussen, can become a beginning to make world of badminton, especially WS more colourful, more entertaining, and more interesting than almost always watch Chinese players in the final....... I also hope another pairs will follow Vita/Lilyana to try break the Great Wall of China in WD....

psychological fear... lost 6 times to them already.. nervous and not confident even before the match has started..
..like yannie said, that's mostly the reason..Another factor is the tactical, style or counter-style of play..which for some reason, Markis & Hendra still haven't figured out how to successfully counter against KKK & TBH..;)

WMC should decide to pull out of HK Open. She will be too tired for SEA Games in Korat, starting 6 December. She needed a break badly and she need to rest her injured knee too. I pledge to Wong TM/YKH to pull WMC out of HK Open... give the poor girl a break, she is human, not machine.
