Why BAO won????(Why LEE CW lost????)
1.BAO Chunlai played really well today(also yesterday).
2.LEE Chong Wei is not fully recovered from his injury.
3.There were 2-3 incorrect calls from line judge during the game.
4.LEE Chong Wei is not mentally strong.
just a pre-warning.
there is obviously some controversial element in this thread so watch and think before you post. if you make stupid unneccessary comments we will be very quick with corrective actions.

#3, u can't prove all of the disputed line calls were incorrect. If i challenge all 21 point per game, would u classify them as incorrect line calls too? bcl won mostly because of #1.
#2. lcw look fast to me
#3 no proof (except for 1 line call)
#4. mentally, l didnt see lcw was weak today. Bcl was finding holes in lcw's gaps today.

Here's the simplest and best answer to it all, none will better it:
BCL reached 21 points before LCW.Try and beat that.
Bao played well for sure. LCW lost was not because he is not fully recovered from his injury. Well i have no comments about the calls but i know that China is doing their best to make this tournament fair. In a way Yes , LCW was distracted, but not mentally strong. He just lost to a better player.

Why BAO won????(Why LEE CW lost????)
It reminds me of Indonesia Open 2007 when LCW won the title. Someone made a statement on the winner and I thought it can be used here too but just replace the name of LCW by BCL.
Don't get it? Click here (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=575126&postcount=493).:D:D
Seriously,
(1) BCL outplayed LCW in every aspect from defense, attacks to anticipation of shots.
(2) I think LCW has recovered 80% if not 100% from his knee injury but it didn't affect his game.
(3) Yes. A few bad line calls have affected LCW emotionally.
(4) LCW is not mentally strong? No.

Answer:
1. Definitely, after rested 1 extra day (Thanks to CH).
2. Maybe
3. More than that, if u follow the whole match
4. No
He is a true sportman, though everything go against him, he still keep cool and continue his play, and applaud when BCL won. Don't u agree, Mr. Li?

Even the Chinese fans are ashamed of the umpiring, see http://comment2.news.sohu.com/viewcomments.action?id=253461005
BCL had the ability to win but it had to be fair
BCL's win was not "convincing" because
(1) China team forced CH to withdraw to conserve BCL's energy in SF against PSH
(2) Umpires and judges were biased against LCW.
LCW had given up the match and didn't play his best.
BCL had the "upper hands" even before the final match.
Pathetic, disgracing and shameful!

Anyone mind to translate this paragraph??
Translation
We are worried about Chinese badminton.
We resorted to free walk over, bad umpiring to win.
Can't we fight fair and square?
These victories brought more shames than glories to the country, idiot LYB you think about it.
Zhao Tingting gave walk-over a few days ago in XD, but now playing in WD final fit and well.
The chinese version is more expressive. Enjoy reading...

BAO was a 'flyer' today because :
1. BAO had a lot of rest (very fresh) whereas LCW had to play 3 strenuous
sets
2. LCW had bad line calls against him -- replay your video back to see
3. An Umpire bad net call -- LCW was so disturbed by that he looked at the
judge when he executed another one of those taps -- he has never done
that before -- it clearly showed he was affected to be bringing that up
If you think that was not strong enough to upset LCW today, then there is nothing that would convince you anyway.
We will not take anything from BAO but we have a grudge against LYB and the officials.

I can think of two reason either LCW got distracted or he got bribed? Lot of ppl in msia are betting LCW to win so the bookie bribe LCW to lose!
Agree. Gamblers are always out of mind. A real badminton fan should be rational rather than emotional or speculating.
Nobody will win forever. One day there will be younger generation to beat the oldies. Blaming other elements is nothing to do with winning it back.

1) If you think that's rebellious, it's nothing compared to what Taufik or Lin Dan would have done. And both are top players. Taufik would have just carried his bag and walked off the court. Lin Dan would have argued, ranted then Li Yong Bo would have joined suit.
2) If you think that's rebellious, Park, the Korean MS player, after a bad line call/fault, kicked the shuttle (I think) in the Semis against Bao.
3) If you think that's rebellious, the top Korean MD, Lee/Jung, walked out at the end of 3rd set, just to make a statement about the unfair line judging.
4) If you think that's rebellious, Sudket and Saralee in XD Semis was also arguing with umpire for some time, demonstrating that his actions was not a fault. Even the GD Sports commentator said in a low tone that only if arms over the net(playback showed his arms were far from net), then only its a fault.
It effected his play after that, he dared not play near the net. Thankfully, they were at match point when the fault happened.
Hmmm, any others that I missed from earlier rounds ??

Firstly congratulations to BCL despite myself being a Malaysian fan. I feel that BCL played really well in the sense that he really wanted to win. In the previous tournaments BCL always seems to lack the desire but today and yesterday he was really pumped up. I guess it would have been a closer game if the line calls were better. I am really disappointed with standard of refereeing and the line calls were dubious. I guess that really had an effect on LCW. LCW was just unable to concentrate after a string of bad line calls which explains the score line. But again we should discount BCL's performance today as he played really well today.
After today's game I am very worried about Olympics in 2008. This is not the first time that dubious line calls appeared in a tournament in China. Do you guys remember Thomas Cup in 2002 (held in Guangzhou) during the semi-finals when Malaysia beat China 3-1??? The tournament was filled with so much venom because the line judges were clearly favoring their own country I even remembered that there was a call that was so bad that th shuttle was at least 2-3 inches out but was called in. The television replays really made the Chinese officials look like bad losers.

first of all, i'm a taufik and ld fan...
after watching the game, i thought that BCL was somehow closing in to the level of LCW, TH and LD...
anyhow, i feel for LCW and BCL... there are 5 questionable calls... 3 of which i think were wrong.... (please, i hope i don't offend anybody) these calls, in my opinion, stole some of the glory that was obviously deserved by BCL...
in this game, BAO was incredibly good at flat drive exchanges and his defense was just so good this time... I also have never seen him this aggressive in his games, using his height so well to earn points... he's like emulating LD, punishing you with a sharp smash...

wat u all wanna say lar???it's so obvious that LEE CHONG WEI is a better player than BAO CHUN LAI, no matter in World Ranking, Super Series Ranking and also in terms of performance and head-to-head meetings...
No matter how good a player u are, the crowd or surrounding environment do play a big role in deciding the game...it's normal to see the crowd cheering for BCL to win over LCW, he cant complaint bout that...But wat so stupid was, everything including the JUDGE and line's judges are from CHINA itself...
This is consider a 5 stars event and biased judge's decision corrupted the game...U dun expect the Finals to be judged this way..it's understandable if the earlier rounds abit lousy in terms of judging, but this is FINALS, man... China shuldnt supply such lousy umpire to judge finals, where i dun see any fault on LCW's net play...That should have be a point for him..And also few line calls...OUT go say IN...Replays clearly shows that it was out, and LCW's complaint was not bothered by the umpire...
Have to say that bad judgement really affected LCW's game..He started quite well in the beginning..Once the line call was misjudged, everything went wrong for him..We cant say that his mentally wasnt strong enough cause you are playing in Finals, it's very obvious that no one can be as calm as usual...
Conclusion, LCW deserve a better judgement...BCL wins was nothing to be proud of...LCW will bounce back in HK Open....

actually from wat i observe..
so far, even there is bad line calls..
chong wei can still win the match afta all,he never did like today..
maybe chunlai style of cheering himself make chong wei feel angry..
chunlai alr change to a more aggresive playing style, his height help him a lot..
he really play one of his best badminton in this tournament..
for chong wei..
his favourite rally seem doesn't work for him but juz make him more frustrated..
he feel stress when those high quality smash get return by bao..
beside tat, he can't take control of the court..
misjudgement and no accuracy bring him to the defeats.
ofcourse he can blame for the line calls but many of us will knw the true ans..
hope tat he won't use it as a reason of lose..

In competition, there is such a legal art or practice of using tactical maneuvers to further one's aims or better one's position. It is called GAMESMANSHIP.
One of the common gamesmanship practices is to demoralise an opponent. Again, this is LEGAL... when it is just to affect the opponent(s)' mind.
If there were only a couple of bad calls against LCW, he would not have been demoralised by them. He would have just considered them as bad judgement by lines persons.
But after 3 or more bad calls were made against him, and obvious/intentional incorrect calls were made, LCW knew that GAMESMANSHIP has been played against him.
He was demoralised, but he continued fighting and not giving up.
This is why I said LCW is now stronger... by still trying to fight back, and not giving up.
It's like LCW was not just fighting against BCL, but the officials and the whole world.
But don't forget my answer to Question 1. Yes, definitely. BCL played well today... otherwise LCW could still beat BCL.
And yes, if LCW would have walked out of the match, then I would have said he has given up the fight.

I guess LCW must have a very good temper… I once got a few bad call from an empire, I keep hitting hard the shuttle cock to his place and get suspended. Kekeke

Bao played well for sure. LCW lost was not because he is not fully recovered from his injury. Well i have no comments about the calls but i know that China is doing their best to make this tournament fair. In a way Yes , LCW was distracted, but not mentally strong. He just lost to a better player.
Obviously that we can see LCW concentration and calm was affected after incorrect calls from line judge.
And the replay on the shuttle landed only shown from the plan view and was not a close-up view.
But there's a close-up view for non controversial point when the the shuttle landed (conspiracy?) and this is not happen in soccer where every controversial incident will be shown in various angle and close-up.
Just afraid that the Beijing OG 2008 might only expose this kind of handicap instead of a sportsmanship.
In term of sportsmanship, what China wish to be label as?

I agree with Ants,
After watching the video, LCW is a little rattled by the call of the line judgment and also the umpire who has fault him over the net. HOWEVER, BCL played one notch better than the last time we saw him in FO'07. Yes, i do sympathizes LCW for the misfortune. It would be an interesting game if it were to be played on a fair ground but I do believe China is to correct this defect ASAP because it can seriously damage the name of our beloved sport. If we factor out line calls, umpire and emotions, I can say that BCL played slightly better and slightly different today as his light overhead shot crosscourt from the backhand location has caused LCW quite some points. I do believe LCW can bounce back to his pace in HKO'07. Cheers everyone ;)!
Bao played well for sure. LCW lost was not because he is not fully recovered from his injury. Well i have no comments about the calls but i know that China is doing their best to make this tournament fair. In a way Yes , LCW was distracted, but not mentally strong. He just lost to a better player.

Found this ... in Chinese ... (don't know how true it is but I don't think a Chinese would make up something like this)
http://www.chinabadminton.com/ball/Announce/Announce.asp?BoardID=4000&ID=2820028
Essentially, the author claimed that he was one of the line judges for the tournament ... but he didn't mention whether he was assigned to judge any one of the final matches.
His account,
* After LD lost, everything changed. Media complained that "we didn't act like the host country because our line judges made bad calls which were NOT in favor of LD." (there was one such case during the match!)
* Somebody "up there" wanted the local judges to make calls in favor of CHN since then. Fortunately, those judges were from Guangzhou who didn't comply and instead maintained their integrity.
* So, something ridiculous happened on the final day ... National-level judges were "inserted" in all the Chinese vs. non-Chinese matches - and they were actually empire-turned-line-judges! Well, XD (no CHN pair) and WD (CHN vs. CHN) were exceptions - 100% Guangzhou judges.
* (The author was probably staying at the media center to watch the final matches.) After XXF lost, the CHN team and CHN Badminton Assoc officials gathered ... and ... we all witnessed what happened during MS final.
- At game 1 when BCL 11:10 LCW, first bad call of a VERY OBVIOUS "out" (even those standing at the stadium gate could tell it was an "out"!)
- At game 2 when BCL 4:8 LCW, a net shot was ruled fault
- When BCL 15:10 LCW, BCL's cross-court shot dropped at 10cm away from the line, still ruled "in!"
At that point of time, the author heard a Guangzhou commentator criticize the line judge for obviously biasing.
* Moreover, the author overheard an instruction made to the TV crew before the final matches that "all the bad calls that are in favor to CHN must be edited out and not to be shown on TV." (i.e., no repeat ... well, I think the last bad call was repeated on TV and it was obviously "out!")
* "Sports become political mission. On one hand, CHN players will become more arrogant (they should just compete in tournaments held in China); on the other hand, foreign players won't bother to come to China anymore. (well, they have no choice when it comes to OG)"
* "Please don't blame the judges from Guangzhou. They refused to comply to 'someone up there' and therefore were not assigned to judge the final matches. Even those national-level judges must be forced to do so. Blame 'someone up there', please."

but LCW, get unfaIR treathen
no foul/out, also say yes

I think that applies to you. The sport dosen't belong to you. China dosen't own badminton. Li Yongbo dosen't own badminton. Badminton is for everyone. So stop ruining it.
We believe that every player deserves to win if they work hard enough. We, however, do not believe that a player deserves to win through cheatwork and disgraceful acts from that filthy scumbag Li Yongbo. I wish him the worse of luck. Shame
Erm.... They congratulated Park because he won even though the linejudges were all Chinese? You don't make sense. We are saying that today's match was unfair. If Park can win even when the linesmen are against him, dosen't he deserve to be congratulated?
Why Bao? Because Bao was the one in this instance. Bao most likely knew about such biased umpiring. Yet he didn't say anything. That makes him the target. If the person was Lin Dan, then we would have criticised Lin Dan. Its that simple.
Lee was certainly strong enough, and gentlemenly enough to continue his game. But then Li Yongbo wasn't prepared to play fair.

first of all, i'm a taufik and ld fan...
after watching the game, i thought that BCL was somehow closing in to the level of LCW, TH and LD...
anyhow, i feel for LCW and BCL... there are 5 questionable calls...
At the start of the match,LCW was looking fresh and already sharpening his weapons (and I thought, wow,'it's gonna be a great match') until the first bad call.that's still ok to him. Until the second bad call and then it's not ok to him...I'm wondering.....if LCW had the freedom to play in his usual calm and focussed manner, would BCL have been able play as well as today..would BCL be able to defend that well if LCW's attack had been his usual standard?
Would you say that, playing at the highest badminton level, when LCW's focus is off by 1%, his game will be off by 5-10% and BCL's game would be able to 'break through' the LCW barrier and wreak havoc like today?
Actually, on reflection again, I am rather amazed that LCW could still continue to put on such impressive badminton display, using only half his mind. He's gotta be the real badminton king.
What do you think?

All of us did infact accept that LCW lost to a better player which is BaoChunLai. Even if there is NO bad call LCW would still lose by looking the way he played and how Bao played. But also many knows that no matter what the outcome is.. someone is trying to do some hanky panky, and there is not suppose to be in the first place.

OK, you are saying that the Chinese linesmen were favoring Park? How on earth did you know that? Did you watch the match? Park played better than Lin Dan.
Secondly, the umpire and linesmen for the two matches were different. That disgusting Li could have bribed one set of them for the finals match.
When Lin Dan lost, no one made any noise because he lost properly. Park simply outplayed him. When Lee lost, it was CLEARLY and OBVIOUSLY biased. THIS is why there is an outrage. I am sure Chinese fans would have been THAT outraged if such cheating scumbag tactics were employed against them.

1) If you read thru the countless threads, you will find that Malaysians critize Malaysian players who lose badly. The Msian players are bashed, not the opponents. Means we dont think Malaysia should win every match.
Just this tournament alone, see the thread "KKK/TBH lose again?" a lot of criticism on KKK/TBH but not Fu/Cai who lost in the 1st rd.
2) Again, if you have gone thru the threads, you would find those Malaysians who give credit to Bao. And same goes for all the matches that went fairly, we give credit to well-deserved opponents. When LCW lost to Bao in Semis in Denmark, Bao played better on the day, a deserving winner.
Majority Msian fans are angry with the umpire and line judges, not Bao
3) If it was Taufik Hidayat under the same situation, he would have walked off and Indonesian fans in this forum would be mad at the line judges too.
Even the South Korea MD coach was angry, they walked out of the match. So, imagine how angry the Korean fans are but they have their own Korean site for that.
4) Go read the info ixory found on what Guangzhou line judge said. Smells very fishy.

More stories ... in Chinese ... (again, not sure how true it is)
http://www.chinabadminton.com/ball/Announce/Announce.asp?BoardID=4000&ID=2816515
After LD told the media, "The judges made me feel that I'm not competing on my home soil."
(Huh??? LD took for granted that judges SHOULD bias to the players of their own countries????? Now I start to look down Super Dan.)
(That reminded me of a sarcastic term originated from Taiwan decades ago: "patriotic judges")
After that ...
(1) WMC's coach (Tat Ming loh!) told the line judge, "Please, I beg you, practice fair play!"
(2) LYD "received" 5 "service faults" while CHN player's obvious faulty service wasn't get caught. CHN audience sarcastically said, "Let's award the service judge an 'Outstanding Judge Award."
(3) Okay, the judges didn't only bias major players but also second-tier ones. That caused JPN WD's Chinese coach scolded the judges during a match.

LD's case is different.CHN did not expect PSH to trouble LD because LD thrashed PSH in 2 sets in DO / FO? recently so no pre-instructions were necessary. LD is seen as having a comfortable edge over PSH, so why worry? (That's why LD was woeful he lost partly because he was not extended 'home ground privilege.')
BCL has a poor record against LCW and LCW thrashed him in FO even when nursing an injury. LCW is seen as having an edge over BCL so BCL needs 'assists' to win.So a complex system of umpire and linesmen was pre-instructed to 'deactivate' LCW at the ripe time. The MS title is a must win for CHN otherwise they will be left holding only the pretty but not prestigious WD title in their home turf. CHN or LYB will be the laughing stock.
I wonder what would happen to LYB if they had not won the MS title through intricate means?

How could that be possible? If china's playing dirty n makes the umpires go against LD?

Again, that was round 1. Simple fact : Lin Dan lost fair and square. Bao didnt (2 line calls were obviously wrong after watching replay).
Things were different, as you know, with the progression of the tournament. If you watched all the matches in Semi and Finals, you would know.
If not, why so many disputes from the different countries ? The conterversial QF MD wasnt shown online or on tv, anyway, kwun filled us on what happened and it's in China's media.

that means : 1) They did not expect Guo/Xie to win MD, rightly so, cos Kido/Setiawan are World no 3 and WC 07 champs.
2) They thought XXF would win WS. Women's dept has been China's dominance.
Interesting that even with all the "help", they only manage to win 2 titles. Imagine if all the matches were fair and square. China could taken only 1 title,
I salute the Thai XD pair for beating Guo Ling/Zheng - I think there were some bad line calls then too but the thais keep mentally strong.

I quite agree with you, because the inner spirit or "semangat" is very important. BCL seemed superior because he was playing a player who already feels there is no point in this match, the fire wasn't in CW's eyes. Players seem to look good when they can play their game, usually CW's returns wouldn't allow such easy smashes by BCL. If you noticed, eventhough recently CW has been playing rally-style, he succeeds because his returns are high and to the baseline, opponents wouldn't opt to smash such returns, as it would work against them. But today, it is somewhat different. I once learned, everyone has their tactics and skills in which they can execute easily and perfectly against players inferior to them. But when playing against stronger players, the options narrow down, suddenly we don't have the opportunity to use our skills because the opponent plays in such a way that we return from difficult angles. Which is why in international tournaments, when both players are good, not very often does any side have much of a chance to execute such easy half court hardass smashes which gives the impression that one player is trashing the other. CW, or any other player on par wouldnt have gave points so easily if not for the conditions of today's match. If anyone thinks that CW is mentally weak, you should imagine the if this were to happen to you, what would you do? would you fare any better if you were CW? Players seem to look (really) good when they get to play their game, have the luxury of using all their skills against a weaker player(and in this case a disgusted CW). The bottom line is, personally i feel that this match may be officially lost, but deep inside we know (and i'm sure CW and Misbun too knows) that it doesn't matter, as long as CW didn't lose because he is inconsistent, because he is lousy, but because of factors beyond his control. If i was BCL, i wouldn't be too proud of this victory. No offence to BCL though.
Just my point of view.

BCL still could have won gracefully if he didn't employ gamesmanship. He even points his finger to the line (signaling the umpire the shot was in, a true fighter would have just stayed quiet) of the 1st bad line calls when it was clearly out !!!
He even shouted excessively after winning each point to further aggravate LCW's troubled mind (to a point that LCW can't stand it anymore and stared at BCL in front of the net for few seconds).
it was all so clear that BCL doesn't have the spirit to be a true champion when he started to employ gamesmanship............not like LD, not like TH, not like PG, not like LCW who would have been really embarrassed to win under such condition.

The point we are trying to make is that even if BCL deserved the win, LCW didn't deserve the loss. The only way CHN could have shut our mouths up is to ensure fair play. If LCW wasn't disturbed by the bad calls, BCL wouldn't necessarily win or even if he did win, he wouldn't have won by that margin.
Are we really fighting with another group? If you can read Chinese and have visited some Chinese badminton-themed forums and Chinese news reports (I've translated some of them and posted on this forum), you will realize that most of the Chinese spectators and journalists echo our view! Even they are ashamed for winning the MS title in this way. Their TV commentators didn't to make explicit accusations but their forum posters just wrote their mind like us. With all these distractions, a Chinese news article argued that the final score couldn't reflect the real strength of LCW.

hi all,
I went through all games at Tianhe Sports Center. I could feel it at the scene that LCW had obviously become the most popular star after LD's wash-out.
We did give our thanks to LCW for his amazing performance (especially in semifinal when he outplayed Chenjin by 2-1) and what he's athletically done after losing the final game. Lee looked disturbed by the judgements, including 2 clear incorrect calls, but I think it's his off-day condition and BCL's perfect play that prevented he from dominating the 2007 China Open.
btw, congrats to WMC, her dogged persistence was wonderfully rewarded.
one more impression on me was made by a MD player from taiwan, I know little about him except the name Leeshengmu. he stopped at semifinal but proved himself an excellent player.
For sure those who officiated LD's match will have a hard time next year.

Good summary, well said.

From what I see LCW couldn't play well because he is emotionally disturbed.
I'm surprised to see quite obvious bad line calls against LCW.
The umpiring when WMC played was almost perfect : no bad calls.
Did anybody mention that one line judge was replaced during the semifinal of Park against BCL due to an obvious bad line call.
And the umpire calling a fault on Sudset for raising his racket is really stupid IMO. As if he doesn't know the rules of badminton. Actually he was angry at Sudket before that because Sudket made some protest.
I hope BWF would look seriously in this matter.
Finally, I regret that I have to say what I have to say in the above

Well, don't be too harsh on BCL. He was a in dilemma. He has to act as if the line judge is not helping him, otherwise his fighting spirit will fade and he may lose. The reason why he can't afford to lose is exactly he has received so many help, from CH, from umpire, etc. It is shameful if he lost. Remember how he was bashed as "useless" when he lost to PG after CH gave him a WO?
Maybe he can tell LCW after the match, sorry Chongwei, I have to do that to save myself from disgrace... And LCW would say, I totally understand...:D
Of course you have a good point here... If it was ZJH playing LCW, I am not sure but maybe he would intentionally hit the shuttlecock out to give LCW back the point?
BCL still could have won gracefully if he didn't employ gamesmanship. He even points his finger to the line (signaling the umpire the shot was in, a true fighter would have just stayed quiet) of the 1st bad line calls when it was clearly out !!!
He even shouted excessively after winning each point to further aggravate LCW's troubled mind (to a point that LCW can't stand it anymore and stared at BCL in front of the net for few seconds).
it was all so clear that BCL doesn't have the spirit to be a true champion when he started to employ gamesmanship............not like LD, not like TH, not like PG, not like LCW who would have been really embarrassed to win under such condition.

too bad even ZJH won't be dare enuf to do that under the supervision of LYB just behind the court.
I've seen enough of LYB's arrogance during his play in the 90s. Can't deny he is a good player, but a very KIASU player with a very bad on court attitude/temper.
For those who doesnt believe what i've said here, watch the 1990 AE Final between PJB and LYB. I pitied Tian Bing Yi who was so patient enough to withstand LYB's hot tempered behaviour on court.

the clearest incorrect call came when BCL was really on fire and 14-10 leading over LCW in the deciding set. I was hoping that Bao, to make a perfect win, would tell the umpire it is OUT. he did not, and finally got one of all flawed wins that most players would prefer to losing it.
I'm a Chinese fan, when sitting there I was expecting a great competition rather than any result. anyway, if the damed officials have ruined it for a result they want, please don't blame BCL, he was merely doing what a player does and writting over his match record with LCW, which is now +4/-8.

The result is out already n it's unchangeable.Prize money is in each of their own pockets already.BCL won.LCW lose.LD didn't get any. That's the result..i know it's hard to accept, but none of us really has the ability to change that,do we?
Linesman r sucks,i know.Umpires r all chinese..so they might stand on LYB's or CHINA's side,i know. They r chinese,n it's not good..because they dont understand any other language except english.Yeap..that's sucks. No matter what we say, they can't understand.I dont think any of them were really ready for the Olympic standard,n the WBF should pay extra caution about that. And,hopefully in the near future, there wont be only local umpires in any international championships, for example:all chinese umpires in china open,or all malaysians in malaysia open. This way,all can be clear n fair.
Now,keep ur heads down for a while.Calm down..take a deep breath...
Like i've posted quite a while ago regarding china national team,we all know that china national team, they're quite different from the others. They dont really know what is sportsmanship. All they know is to win the matches,no matter what it takes,no matter how black it is.Yes,i know that.Maybe it's some sort of LYB's passion,to win as much matches as possible, and cover the dark side of the process.Maybe LYB had a bad days back in the day, when he's still playing as a player..n thinking about getting a revenge.. i dont know..maybe lots of u r having the same thought as i do.
Well..i wrote this same thing a long time ago.I'm not proud of China's national team.I'm not proud of LYB's achievement as a coach, who brought china to this big..with some of his dirty deeds..doesn't care too much about sportsmanship. That's why i got bored..from the last 2 years, that china became the biggest winner in badminton world.Everytime they play,i wish them to lose.Let the winners be the others,as long as it's not china.
It's just so boring to see those faces everytime..n some their play doesnt even seems to be exciting either.
So..by this,i wanna say,WBF is not blind.WBF is also not a big fan of LYB,so i'm sure they'll take the neccesary punishment if they found out there's something wrong. But in the mean time, let us all be calm.No more fights between china n malaysia supporter,or one to another, since in the end,it'll be useless. There's even possibility that u'll end up fighting each other in the equipment room,or end up selling counterfeits to another in the "Buy & Sell"..just because u dont like each other. No,we dont want that.Hehe..so..let's keep it down n wait for the further news regarding WBF view about this.No matter what happends, there shouldn't be any fights happend within us,badminton lovers.

All said and done, I feel the umpiring was bad not only during LCW/BCL's game but throughout the tournament. LCW could never have be playing that bad (the scoreline says it) if he was not affected by bad line calls and faulted by the umpire himself over his net play. You could clearly see he was rattled that he even looked disgustingly at the umpire during the next net play, almost challenging him to call "fault" again.
BCL may have been playing well but remember he was more fresh after the forced walkover by Chen Hong. He had all the unfair advantages on his side which LCW was deprived of. All being equal, let's see if BCL could win again should they meet the next time.
Anyway, congratulations to BCL. After so many tournaments being just a runner-up, perhaps we should let him have the crown for once! He can sleep well now.

Yes..very true. But none of u also giving credits for BCL who played really well today?..just blaming the loss on the umpires n judges.I know things might change if the umpires acted fair today..but shouldn't u guys also said that BCL won also because that he played well..not just because umpires stands against LCW?
How do u feel after u win a game, ppl say that it is because the judge was making too much errors n let u win?Wouldn't u feel offensed? Can u at least give a credit for him?Not just saying that he's not supposed to win,LCW should..
I know that LCW stands more chance n more records for beating BCL.But,it's not impossible that BCL could win from LCW.For example:TH n LD.LD wins more in their meets,at the opens..but in fact,TH can win in the bigger match, such as Olympic,Asian game,World championship.
I'm not a chinese nationality,nor malaysians.I'm neutral..but let's see from every aspects,k?
N not only malaysia..all of other countries were also having a difficult time with the umpires.Korea,Indonesia,Denmark,Thai..
So,let's keep this down,k?If there is any fault found..it'll should be taken seriously by IBF.N before that,we,as supporters of any team..as badminton lovers..just keep our emotions for a while,k?
Fighting in this forum wont change the dirty play,if exist. It'll only bring fights between some groups n another group, which is useless.
We're not looking for some enemies to fight over something in here..we're looking for some friends who got the same interest..which is badminton. So,let's keep it that way.
<Sigh> If you look at the other replies and countless threads, you will find that we do agree Bao played better, is fresher. If the match was done fair and sqaure, would have been a 3 setter.
AND, remember Bao defeated LCW in Denmark Open Semis, WC 2006, of course we know Bao can beat LCW. LCW was critised then, and also critised when Misbun said he was suffering from knee injury in DO. So....
AND, I'm sure you've realised by now, many of the forum members are teenagers, a lot of hot blooded young men, so....

From what I see LCW couldn't play well because he is emotionally disturbed.
I'm surprised to see quite obvious bad line calls against LCW.
Totally agree. If it is a close call means the call can be either call out or in, that is difficult to argue; however, look at LCW's reaction, you can tell it is an OBVIOUSLY bad call that is against him. LCW definitely see the shuttle clearly infront of him and 100% sure it is out.

There are good n bad sportmanship displayed even by supporting fans. Sports politics is very very bad in international events. This thread is not to dispute results of games or umpires' misjudgements but to give unbiased opinions of the events. If the the games ended 22/20 n 22/20 then that will definetly be a agenda for the IBF or WBF..poor umpiring ..not in this forum...

Bao perform very well in Final game, he actually don't need any help from umpires n judges. Then he will win as real champion.
Now with all this negative news floating around, I don't know how Bao will take it ?
He actually need this WIN to recover his confident and prove that he can win in Final and not always runner-up. But now he may think that he didn't FULLY win in this match (even his is capable), he may even lost confident when play in Final outside China in future........
I don't think is good thing for Bao, but it maybe good thing for LCW, LCW certainly learn something from this and hopefully will be perpared for the unfair umpires n judges in China Olympic.

Frustrated Chong Wei falls to Chunlai
PETALING JAYA: National number one Lee Chong Wei failed to end a five-year drought for Malaysia in men's singles title at the China Open in Guangzhou yesterday.
He was beaten 13-21, 12-21 by China's Bao Chunlai in the final and the match was marred by disruptions on four occasions when Chong Wei questioned the line calls. He also got worked up when the umpire disallowed a clear tap at the net.
“I am not using these as excuses for my defeat today but I just feel that the line calls were indeed unfair,” said the world number two in a telephone interview from Guangzhou yesterday.
“But this is a good practice for me. I know what to expect when China host the Olympic Games in Beijing next year as far as line judging is concerned.”
Although Chong Wei's rhythm was affected by the questionable calls, credit should be given to the lanky Chunlai, who played well to nail his first Open title of the year after finishing as the bridesmaid in four tournaments.

It's sad to see that China has to face all these allegations of cheating, regardless of whether or not it was official policy. I remember way back in the 80s and early 90s when the Chinese national team were the 2nd team for most overseas Chinese (probably even now) but all these news are eroding the pride in China. I hope they realise that the end does not justify the means all the time, especially in sports.
People all over the world appreciate players who win fair. I think that there's a lot of injustice in the world and sports is a form of escapism for many people who think that the cream will rise to the top in sports (ie. the best player will win). Unfortunately, cheating or even just allegations of cheating is enough to destroy the reputation of a country or player.

90% of BCLs' 42 pts are winners.. not unforced errors by LCW n only 5% are controversial, I am also a fan of LCW but BCL is a clear winner. Umpires did not play the winning strokes.
Come on.... this is human playing badminton.... Using mathematical stats to judge the outcome is totally illogical. Try yourself.... playing not only against your opponent, but also against the umpire and line judges.
I've gone through quite a few of the posts in this thread. Many echo the same sentiment, angry or otherwise. There still appears to be a whole lot of frustration but how much more can there be added before it deteriorates into an all out hate fest? I'm not adding any more fuel to the fire; I've already presented my opinions in the "CO Finals" thread. I say there is nothing more to be gained from keeping this thread open. Not healthy. :)
agree.
in closing, i want everyone to understand that there isn't much point to show your anger here as anger will only fuel anger. it make much more valuable discussion if posting can be make in a more analytical and rational manner instead of just voicing emotions.
thread closed.
