View Full Version : LYB interview: On WMC's win, line judging, etc. (WARNING: cool down b4 reading this)

Provoking ... you are warned!
Major points,
Only 2 titles?
- Hectic tournament schedule doesn't do "veteran" players good, so CY/FHF, ZN, XXF failed.
- New scoring system makes the sport more unpredictable
- May skip some events, e.g., Grand Prix finals, without jeopardizing OG qualification
- Since May 1 this year (beginning of OG qualification period), we have never trained for 35 consecutive days. If we skip some events, we will earn a precious 35-day period to concentrate on training.
On WMC's win
- She improved a lot in this year. Her attacks are not as "obvious" (i.e., good) as CHN players but that is compensated by her fast movements.
- It's hard to beat her if CHN players don't have BOTH the stamina and the power.
XXF lost because of pressure and lack of determination?
- No, she just didn't have the stamina to complete the match today
- I don't blame her. This is just the unpredictability of the sport under the new scoring sys
Controversy in line judging?
(note: LYB is digging out the history.)
[1] In this aspect, we the CHN team has been suffering the most, especially when we are in S. Korea. Bingyi and I 'lost to the judges' in the MD final at Seoul AG. Some of the line judges later became their national players, e.g., Ha Tae Kwon. We didn't know the truth for many years until Ha & co. told us what they had done to us.
[2] We suffered the problems many times (e.g., at World Jr this year at KL) but we have never quit any tournament in the name of sportsmanship. It's hard to prevent disputes between players and judges, but we should respect the judges more. In managing CHN team, I've been reinforcing this (to my players). We are a civilized country. Our audience is friendly. Our judges have high quality.
[3] Player challenges judge like what happened today - totally unacceptable! If this happens in some other sports, the consequence will be severe. The badminton sport doesn't do well in this aspect - judges' dignity has not been protected.
zqloy 11-25-2007, 06:46 AM LYB is shooting some sheet as usual la. Its always him and his big mouth.

how about other country??
MALAYSIA??THAILAND??INDONESIA??

vching 11-25-2007, 07:02 AM the answer to this? PETITION PETITION PETITION!!!!!
http://www.petitiononline.com/bwfpet/petition.html
two wrongs dont make a right.... this should stop now!
What Li has said was that he confirmed the fact that linejudges are bribed. He should be banned... Just because Korea did it long time ago (i'm not saying they did, can someone enlighten me on this?) dosen't make it correct. Shameful. Trying to find excuses....
and what the hell? It is wrong to challenge umpires? Hell, the match referee is there so that when an umpire is challenged, he steps in! LYB, disgraceful, shameful. I spit on you.
Inky2000 11-25-2007, 07:04 AM Another Chinese report,
http://sports.sina.com.cn/o/2007-11-25/18493317634.shtml
An account of the controversies during the tournament,
(1) GZD/XZB vs. JJS/LYD
More than 10 times of dispute ... the calls were all in favor of CHN. It can't be so coincident that KOR misjudged for more than 10 times. Still, they SHOULD NOT quit the match because of that.
(2) PSH vs. BCL
PSH received a yellow card ... he deserved it because when he made an error, he threw his racquet, kicked the shuttle to BCL's court and crash himself to the net. Too emotional.
(3) CH conceived walkover
The OG rankings don't look good to CHN at the moment. CHN wants 4 players to be among top-4 for obvious reason. Now only LD makes it. With LD being eliminated, CHN desperately needs BCL to win the title. So CH just did his ex-teammate and the country a favor.
(4) THA XD pair vs. XZB/ZYW
At the match point, THA player complained to the empire that XZB's act (raising both arms in front of the net) has distracted the game. The game halted for 5 minutes but THA eventually made it.
(5) LCW vs. BCL
LCW's agony was MORE REASONABLE than the earlier scenes. He threw his racquet twice in the match - in both occasions, the slow motion on TV showed that BCL's shots were "out" and yet the line judges said otherwise ... The final scores do not reflect LCW's real strength.
As the CCTV commenter has said, "BCL is in form today. We shouldn't and don't need to win the match in this way!"
So what about Beijing OG? Korean coach Li Mao argued that the situation will improve as the empires and judges won't be assigned by one association.
BTW, WMC is now touted by Chinese media as "the nemesis of CHN team" ...

never i seen such biased refering in any other sportsss!
They can even send a kid from the street to beat LCW with this kind of help!

this is totally a lie..
i heard the umpire call fault on sudket for raising his hand in front of the net and not XZB, it should be sudket complaining abt why he get fault..
i also don't knw why sudket get fault as he look like not doing anything wrong..
eaglehelang 11-25-2007, 07:14 AM There is always a vested interest when it comes in home games. Too bad lor.
That doesnt happen when other countries host SS. So in other words, just because China is "superpower" of badminton, doesnt mean they can manipulate. Anyway, the great wall is cracking, hole getting bigger.
Carbonexer 11-25-2007, 07:14 AM Controversy in line judging?
(note: LYB is digging out the history.)
[3] Player challenges judge like what happened today - totally unacceptable! If this happens in some other sports, the consequence will be severe. The badminton sport doesn't do well in this aspect - judges' dignity has not been protected.
A coach shouting "break his leg" is totally unacceptable and is even more despicable. A coach that buy out the whole team of "lies" man and judge is totally despicable and a 100% pure coward. If this happens in football in Europe, LYB head will be smashed & bleed to death by now. Judges who cannot be fair is not a real judge so what's there to protect is only his head and his life.
I believe sooner or later someone or god will have to shut his mouth forever. This filthiest scumbag in the most despicable living creature on planet earth at this moment.
vching 11-25-2007, 07:17 AM i hope when LYB comes to Malaysia, or Indonesia, or whereever, the fans will BOOO him loudly when he comes out!

True. I saw that part too. Sudket and Saralee were explaining and complaining to the tournment referee. Sudket raised his arms as a dummy act before taking the shot.
In the replay, it was shown that his arms are far away from the net, therefore not a fault.
Even the GD Sports commentator said softly that "normally if the arms over the net then only its a fault." Saralee was demonstrating that to the umpire and tournament referee, defending her partner. The umpire stuck to his decision and Guo/Yawen were given a point for the supposed fault.
Sudket was visibly upset. Thank goodness they were at match point when it happened cos Sudket dared not play near the net after that, he let Saralee take the front court shots.

What does that supposed to mean? Why! Cannot beat them ah? He think what? His gals always the best ah? They used so many gals in the tournament. Of course lah sure most of the time either one of them will win.
Well at least we beat them in a fair manner. But now he cannot take the fact that Malaysia just sent one gal is enough to beat all his gals. Ha ha ha....
Maybe he still didn't realise that China gals have always been the nemesis of the whole world teams.

That fault is totally a joke! I was like "u gotta be kidding right?" No way u can fault like this, and its at the match point somemore! Kudos to Saralee who is composed and brave enough to hit the last winner.

You may don't like some people(umpires that who made mistakes in this year's China Open......).Of course I am also hate those people.
But what I want to say is that please do not work off your anger on our players. You must make it clear(LYB or those whom all you hate can not represent our shuttlers)

Let me explain to you about this word call "Mistakes".
Mistakes are unintentional. What happened were intentional and not mistakes.
Why did I say intentional? If it was a mistake, the judge should have apologise for his mistake. Apparently he even argue which means he don't think he was in the wrong. So what mistake?
Mistake usually happened only once in one occasion. Unless he is a typical dumb
azz from China that made multiple mistakes in one occasion.
Lastly, all his mistakes seem to side China player? So do you think its still a so called mistakes? Get a life. We are not some 3 year old kids.

Wrong. I blamed BCL. He is not sporting at all. Why? Because while in the court, he also pointed and shouted that the shuttle was in when the rest of the world clearly saw his no good shot was out.

i think this can't be the reason you blame him..

every player is selfish when it reach crucial moment, perhaps we must say every human..
so it won't be wrong if he call tat his ball was in..
maybe at his angle he saw it in, i experienced this also...

if you hate BCL, you muz hate our koo/tan too..
they also did the same as BCL when facing japan players(if i am not wrong)..
which they been boo by the spectators,at last they lost..

Carbonexer 11-25-2007, 08:00 AM Hahahaha I bet BCL now really thought he is the best. Its different. Koo/Tan did not try to interfere and influence the umpire, which BCL did. Our boys did at least apologize to the Japs.

i have a feeling this thread will be closed soon....everyone just needs to calm down and stop taking what LYB said so out of context and have an open mind about things
ycw77 11-25-2007, 08:12 AM Question was there is a baseline cam at each end of the court which can show in / out situation. Why the broadcaster did not show it out when LCW protested in the 1st time?
Reason is only 1. The shuttlecock was out and LCW very sure about this. That was why he protested so kau.
Same thing goes to net play. 1st 2 times BCL tapped the racket slightly over the net and nothing has happened to him. When LCW did that for the 1st time, straight away kena fault. But I really laugh my ass out when the 2nd shot he look straight away to the umpire, was this fault?
Haha......
