View Full Version : Last chance for Hafiz (By Misbun)

Prior to China Open, Misbun gave Hafiz 2 more chances to shine. He failed to pass Park in R2!!! Lets see if Misbun will keep his promise and ground Hafiz. Whats ur views?

After witness Wong Mew Choo effort,Hafiz should realise that nothing is impossible to achieve in this world as long as you work hard and try your very best.Firstly,he must change his lazy attitude on court and fight for every point. If WMC can do it,he also can do it.This is also the last chance i give to him,if he fail again,i will never mention this person again in the future.

He has..............
more lethal smashes than LCW,
better physical structure of a body than LCW,
more handsome than LCW,
What has been lacking of him these few years is just some real determination to win. Yes, it's the hunger to win. For the glory or the money..............:D:D:D

I don't think Hafiz is history. He is in too much pressure that his eagerness to win has turned against him. I saw him play recently and I noticed a great improvement. The problem is wrapping up the game. He seemed to have lost the confidence to do so.
I still believe he can shine, maybe not as a champion outright but he will be in the semi finals at the very least.
To Hafiz: Don't let your eagerness to win work against you, use it to inspire you.:)

kwun,
it simply means to disallow him to participate in International tourneys unless he is proven otherwise. In soccer, if the player is not fit, he will be benched regardless of the "status" (superstar).
I think it will motivate the player to play better as soon as the grounded is lifted.

For Hafiz case, as long as he put up a good fight, we should put few more chances for him. It's hard to make judgment solely base on result as with Hafiz current ranking, he mostly will face top notch player in early round.
In Hong Kong Open, he will play against Simon Santoso follow by Jonassen, if he fail again to beat this 2 players then ... ? I can see dilemma in Misbun and BAM as Olympic is approaching, as much as I reluctant to do, let Hafif play thru next year until qualification for Olympic period expires and if he still emerge as Malaysia #2 MS in ranking then he go. We don't really have much choice, is Choon Hann, Lee Tsuen Seng, "Kwun whatever", Ayub really better than Hafiz?
I am sure many will disagree with me(even I have doubt myself), but let him play thru until Olympic qualification period and if he's not good enough then he won't go and then she should stay home to spar with Chong Wei.

There's a saying "If a tiger's back at wall, he will jump over it". Obviously, YoYo has slumped since AE03 yet not grounded. In fact, he still enjoys all the perks to participate in international tourneys and ended up casualty in EARLY ROUNDS. Times n times, BAM/Misbun has given him numerous chances to prove his worth, and yet he lost to unranked players  I'm not asking BAM/Misbun to sack him, but to "ground" him for months. I believe that will create the hunger within Yoyo.
The sad thing is that no other Msia players can challenge him as 2nd best player. Yes, dats very disheartening to hear where Msia is a Badminton Powerhouse :(

I am really wondering why HH deserved so many talks & discussion here.
For me, he is a history
Players like YKB/TBH/K.Yogendran who all delivered nothing for MAS Badminton should be kicked out from MAS NAtional team along with HH. They has been given so many years of chances to perform , still they went home empty handed. This is about time for BAM to do something.
Furthermore, all those players will be hopeless for challenging OG medals or even qualifying on that games.

TBH?? He's the current AG Champ and World No 1 with KKK. They definetely wont kick him out. I think you meant Kuan Beng Hong or whatever his new name is = KBH. Yeoh KB is the better of the 3 in terms of results. Sea Games is Kuan BH's last chance I think.
And again, Hafiz is with Nusa Mahsuri not BAM, his club can choose to send him to any tournament they like. So he can continue playing but representing the country in team events is another thing altogether.
Next year's Thomas Cup - who will be the 2nd & 3rd singles? Any candidates that's near the standard of LCW? LeeTS is about the closest. WCH, the faithful old horse, has fighting spirit but hasnt been performing well of late. Roslin is another veteran.

Talking about Thomas cup, in fact WCH may be the best choice. WCH has beaten BCL this year, and has two very very close matches against CJ. Others, HH, KBH, YKB, can anyone imagine they not losing miserably against BCL or CJ? :D

Why Mr YoYo is the nickname of HH?
Hafiz is likened to a yoyo, you know, the one with the long string that we play with as a kid? Or you were high tech kid?
Yoyo swings back and forth, one end to the other, much like Hafiz. He beat strong opponents one day, lost to unheralded ones the next. His performance is unpredictable.

Anyway, there are no more tournaments for this year and so HH can rot for all Misbun care. HH will get lost for a while now coz he will be wondering what he will do next. If I were him I would use the next month or so to do lots of gym work, road running, rope skipping instead of hanging out with friends. And then come next year, try to win favours with Misbun for a player position again.

He rode the waves at 20 or so to win the ALL-England and then accolades, presents/gifts were presented to him. He was famous, people rolled out to call him the hero of Malaysia's badminton. He loved it and he lived it up and lived up and lived it up. Then his belly started to feel full and his lungs began to breathe hard and when he came back playing the motivation and the energy were not there. He put it down to just a temporarily event and that he would come out of it quickly once he is ready to.
He goes to training with half his heart dreaming about the things he would do with his friends at night. He put in his training appearances and seemed to train hard. But when the crunch came on tournament days, he capitulate because the energy was not there. He never understood stamina as it should be and took it like if he plays good he might win the match.
Soon it was harder to get his form back as his strength is not there. Even today he might be fooling himself -- KJ obviously showed him up today after the 1st game, he must have been a spent force in the 2nd to lose by such a big difference (I hope it was something a bit more palatable like a strained thigh or a troubling knee).
There is no way back for this chap unless he trains while others have a break in the Festive season.

Anyway, there are no more tournaments for this year and so HH can rot for all Misbun care. HH will get lost for a while now coz he will be wondering what he will do next. If I were him I would use the next month or so to do lots of gym work, road running, rope skipping instead of hanging out with friends. And then come next year, try to win favours with Misbun for a player position again.
he can do that or.....
go back home and concentrate on making some good kids.................:D:D:D i seriously think that he will choose the latter.

Interesting piece Xball, you should write feature write-ups but in Malaysia they dont pay much,

I find your comment for HH too harsh. I watched the game and saw him trying his best to put up to your expectations. The first set was quite tight. If I remember it right, he was able to be on the lead. In the 2nd set, they changed ends and now he was on the side where the shuttle drifts a little stronger. Most of his errors were either wide or long. He did not look too tired. Maybe he was just too eager to win to redeem himself so that he tends to overkill his shots.
I'm no big fan of HH but I believe he deserves a little respect and understanding. If we can do that for him then maybe he can comeback faster. :)

Based on the scoreline (5-21 in 2nd set), I can tell u that he is simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH...!!! No disrespect to KJ, but he is not even on par with LD, Taufik, LCW or even Gade. Misbun, pls justify ur promise and keep him grounded for the sake of Msia fans. Enough is enough
Now, the world is watching if Misbun will take necessary actions against Hafiz. If he doesnt, it' unhealthy to BAM players. Give those youngsters more exposure, invest in them and I'm quite sure we'll produce another LCW or Rashid

In the first place, Hafiz is NOT, is NOT with BAM, is with the club Nusa Mahsuri. So, his club can send to as many tourneys as they like.
Maybe they should send him to GP or GP Gold events like Roslin.

I remain positive for anyone but the truth remains that he has squandered chances given to him. What most people here are clamouring is the money spent on efforts not commensurating the spending whether it is government or private.
If we allow ourselves to be lulled by his indifferent form, then we might as well as write him off. The matter is and it is visible to everyone that he is not performing. He has allowed himself to wallow in self pity but not raising the bar one iorta - comforting himself that he would be able to raise his standards. The two chances given by his coach (and believe me nobody knows Hafiz better than Misbun) were not met.
My conclusion in the earlier posting was more sympathetic than what you have mentioned (harsh) - I suggested he trains hard whilst others are relaxing during the festive season for him to catch up on his make-belief fitness (to just play is not enough, to stretch your opponent like LCW or WMC, a classic example of stamina, is a must these days and Hafiz does not have that in him today).

I think training harder (physically) is not what he needs, it's more on the psychological aspect. Training is something anyone can do, putting behind his fear of losing again is a more difficult task. However, it is always easier said than done. Training and techniques can be learned from the coach, while mental training is something you have to develop personally. In a word, confidence. And giving him more pressure will not help, it will aggravate.:)

I don't know whether you play badminton a lot. When I was young I played every day but when I played with the real good ones, I fiound that my stamina was not there when it counted. I don't think HAFIZ has that extra bit called stamina -- just look at WMC against the Chinese girls (all panting and giving up at the end). Hafiz has not got that (he is like the Chinese gals, panting ansd giving up because he could not carry on....he resorts to trick shots to either win or lose at the net because that does not entail too much running). Normally against the good players, they don't mind trading such shots with him.

tend to have so much excuses after lose
he is long gone case...why even bother to care to talk abt him?
beside him we still have 'heroes" like YKB, KBH, OSH/TBH under BAM who is
not performing.....

Why are we so worked up about this? Unless we can send players better than Hafiz, we should not complain. He should not bear the brunt of the lack of quality in the squad. The young players must step up and beat him, then he either bucks up or ships out.

i agree. and that talk about him being a bumi and thus given special privilages, my question is, when have BAM ever fired any player, performing or not performing notwithstanding. and there have been players, bumi and non bumi, who are not performing and not being bashed like hafiz is. i think it is because he won the all england that they are hard on him.

When it comes to CHN girls lack stamina, I am not sure I agree with you...if anything, fitness is CHN trademark...WMC won on a never say die attitude, she ran for every shots, and yes, WMC is very fit, and if you watch the video again, you can sense she was very determined and confident, playing as if she was on a mission, even when she was trailing in the 3rd set...she simply frustrated CHN players with her defend. What do you think?;)

That's why I said - Hafiz seems to be prone to fever, but that's just cynical me.

1) Again, BAM cant fire Hafiz, he's not from BAM. So, all the talk about favouring Hafiz doesnt add up.
But in reality, you're right, because Hafiz won AE 2003, they arent letting go yet. That should be the reason, not racial preferance.
Players like KBH, K. Yogendran, Yeoh KB, no news, means they arent putting any hope in the 2nd stringers.
THey wanted to upgrade Tan CS last year to senior (which means side lining the 3 already in the senior team) but Rashid said no.
So, if it was Yeoh KB who won AE, then he'll be under fire.
2) With the debacle at WC, Yap Kim Hock did say some players will be out of the senior team end of the year, Olympics or not. That puts KBH, K. Yogendran in trouble.
We shall see if any players will be kicked out since there's only one month left of the year.

I totally agree with you that stamina is a key factor in winning a game, however, I saw the match that is why I'm saying that he lost not because of stamina. Believe it or not luck plays a role, or shall we say that sometimes our game is simply off. And yes, I play everyday whenever I'm not watching the super series.

Honestly, I really cannot believe some Malaysian fans here. Hafiz, despite being so consistent ..... in losing I mean, we still have a big group of Malaysians calling for him be given another opportunity.
How much longer we are gonna flog a dead horse??
Do we ever wonder why the last time we won that Thomas Cup was back in 92?? Ever wonder when was the last time we won the TC away from home (not be a jagoh kampung)?? Ever wonder why we have yet to land ourselves an Olympic gold or a WC title???
Well, the reason why Malaysia normally end up short is because we have lame horses in our stable. Win one All England title , and that single title will carry you to all the way home.
Let me say this now, we are not going win the gold in Beijing next year period.
