ok. so i am here in Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong. matches already started. i see a few HK player as well as Robertson/Emms warming up in the practice court. i will take and posts more pics later here.

i was told that courtside photo access is not available at least when 3 courts are in use from Nov 27-29. so photos will not be as good for these few days.

the media room is tiny! the list of journalists and photojournalist is huge, at least 40+ people. it will be impossible to fit everyone in here. and they ran out of network cables, as well as power cable.

the HK Open organization is really strange.

today they decide to have some of the 1st round matches, but they finished early with the last match starting at 3.30pm.

however, tomorrow, they still have 1st round matches, but the schedule goes from 9am till 10.20pm. why didn't they put some of those matches to today to balance out the schedule a bit??

If you arent doing it already, I suggest you sell some of your photos to the press or sports magazine.
It's very good quality, they will be glad to have off court photos in addition to theirs cos journalist have to cover many events, they cant be in the stadium everyday.

Your English is good, you can do a small write-up too - if you feel unsure, gimme the points I'll do a jounalistic slant for you, in appreciation for all the hard work you do for BC. I'm a bit rusty though. So next time you go for tourneys, you get to earn a bit too for your sweat and toil.

Dont get offended :D, I really think your photos are good.

Now everyone seems to get use to Bad lines call, Patriotic walkover and Gamenship tactics… is too calm to be good? Should badminton go the WWE route or follow the Tennis Route? I guess WWE route would be better cause is more entertaining somemore or TOP player can become hollywood star like the ROCK or Hulk Hogan.

Ok, ok, I will accept that, but it's a shame Sudket/Saralee lost.

I think the Chinese are affected by the Malaysian disease during World Championships, home court pressure. That's why they performed badly last week. But because of better quality assisted by the best "umpiring and line judging", they still get 2 titles .....

The thick whispers and the ceaseless subterfuge must be getting on his nerves.
Already, Li Yongbo's camp sort of resembles the Cosa Nostra.
I guess the only things they lack are pasta and visible guns.

In Tang Xian-hu's day, tournaments were about people playing against each other with grit, grace and determination... it was not about people 'walking over' each other or throwing games or conjuring injuries to help set up advantageous draws.

As perhaps the greatest player of them all and also as a man of sporting honour, it could also be that Tang Xian-hu is disturbed by the avalanche of false line calls.

Why do you want to have the broken racket?
Yeah, they need to show it to the sponsor to have it replaced. He is considered a lower ranked player..so he might not have many rackets to give. Even LCW have to show his broken racket to the sponsor to have it replaced.

1. try to play the video (if it's already available) and then pause it just when Hau-ge and badMania shake hands with Hendra & Markis or Nova & Lilyana..
2. Then press the Print Screen button on your keyboard..
3. After that, open Paint or other image viewing program and then paste the image..

Aerotus already uploaded the RTM version. Video is available at the video download thread. I tried all the steps, didnt work. Searched Real player they dont have the mode.

Maybe you can download Game 3 from Aerotus's shareky, the shaking hands part is at 10.06 minutes of Game 3.

I'm not asking about who wins.I'm curious about how linesmen decide on close calls where they have to make the call even when they are unsure.
..they better be sure, when they make a call.:p If not 100% sure, at least more than 50% sure about what they saw. Or IF they are genuinely unsure, then they can always pretend that they are sure..................or unsure..:rolleyes:;)
Another interesting way is to have the players themselves sit on those linesmen/women chairs and try to stay focus and judge whether a "close call" is in or out. See if they can do a better job. In a way, it'll make them realize how challenging it is for linesmen/women to do their task:cool:

LOL, I thought you were watching live. RTM only showed MD, Tony/Chandra vs Kido/Setiawan. In Game 3, after Kido/Setiawan won, Huang & Badmania were the 1st to shake hands with them, before the prize presentation.
Aerotus uploaded the RTM version, the scene is in Game 3, at 10.06 minutes.

How should I start:

He got the good look of Taufik, quick as LCW, tough as LD and as smooth as Peter Gade. Lots of insider badminton stories, entertaining to be around.:)

Hahahaha...u guys are fooled by our Hau-Ge :D He's actually the team manager of Team USA :p

And Badmania should be Manager/Spokesman for Kido/Setiawan. Anybody wants biodata, career history, press release, photos, etc of Kido/Setiawan must go thru Badmania.

Anybody trying to simply badmouth Kido/Setiawan will see Badmania really going maniac. Kido/Setiawan's career after retirement will be well taken care of with endorsements of tongkat ali, Indonesian herbs, badminton lessons.

Not forgeting, fan website, with Kwun, Cheung and gang's help.
Write-ups are not that hard to do, you know English, B. Indonesia & Chinese, write in all three.

[Try this story :
For there is a time, the mighty mouse, mighty pillar & friend, made their travels round the world. Everyone thought -"Ha, small mouse, plump somemore, what can he do?" Then the mouse charged, jumped, smashed the daylights outa them. Small mouse became mighty mouse.
Then they saw a tall, skinny one and thought "Ha, thin like a stick, no expression, no passion, also no use-lah." Then skinny sticky one jabbed, kung-fu-ed them when they least expect it. When they tried to attack close range, he takwando-ed back. Skinny sticky became mighty pillar.

Then they saw the friend, always faithful, declaring, one day small mouse & skinny sticky will become great, please believe in them, amidst jeers from all. Now friend has become friend of mighty mouse & mighty pillar, the insightful friend, with vision.]

That only took 10 minutes, I'm sure you can do better, or ask Oldhand's help. Of course 'mighty mouse' was a nickname somebody else already thought of, I just borrowed it.

Shouldn't be. When I asked for Zakry's broken racquet, he couldn't give it to me. He needed it to give back to sponsor for a replacement.

Cheung did get a chance to take a photo with it though, along with Fairuz's broken racket.

i got this one:

http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=37935&stc=1&d=1197129608

Used - yes :)
Broken - no :D

Just wondering (a bit OT, perhaps):

Given that, in men's singles matches, the pros change the shuttle (or ask the opponent to change it) after every smash and also whenever they lose a point, need a breather or simply need to upset the equilibrium, it seems they use up two barrels or more on every tight game (21-16+).
That's 24+ shuttles!

And if the contest marches on to a rubber set, that's ....:eek::eek:

Consider these:
During practice, these pros don't use new shuttles on every other serve
None of these pros were weaned on a training diet of new shuttles, much less for every serve :p
The shuttles used for the top tournaments are the best available, each make certified for tournament quality by the international federation :)
Doubles players change shuttles far less frequently although their shots are of a more bruising nature
Neither pros who change shuttles more often (for instance, Taufik Hidayat) nor those who change shuttles less often (for instance, Peter Gade) seem to be deriving any particular advantage from their habit ;)

I wonder if this habit of changing shuttles on a whim isn't indifferent extravagance of an extreme and unprofessional nature

the processors are laptops with the lid closed if i recall correctly.

it is amazing how much goes into producing a badminton tournament coverage like a typical Open tournament like the HK Open. the competition floor is piled with cables of all sorts everywhere (i don't have a photos but you can see glimpse of it in Cheung's display photo).

Yes, they drive the multiviewers for the digital signage... :)
The more advanced MV systems can combine any number of display modules (with 8 to 16 inputs in each module) and then show them on multiple screens set together in any manner (a videowall works in pretty much the same fashion).

US manufacturers are on top in this field... but the Taiwanese, Russians and Koreans offer almost the same thing at about a tenth of the cost :p
