madbad 11-27-2007, 07:08 PM OK, matches have started with a couple of WS and MS. I guess I just figured out a possible reason why they had to stagger the 1st round matches. Must be a small stadium floor as they can only hold 3 courts. You can only squeeze in so many games a day based on this configuration.
JAP girls are dong well:
Kaori 11-5 Chan (HK)
Eriko 11-3 Eva Lee (US)
Also Nguen TM 7-10 KJ

i saw Eva Lee from the US warming up with her mom yesterday in the practice court. she is playing Eriko today. she is probably the best player US have but even so Eriko will be a tough opponent.

That is cool, a tournament player warming up with her Mom :). Don't expect Eva to make it past Eriko. Already lost 7-21 an down 2-3 in the 2nd. Take lotsa nice pics today!

i think partly because she is the only one from the US playing here. apparently the other ones decided not to participate in the HKO and instead go for other tournament elsewhere.
madbad 11-27-2007, 07:28 PM Oop, poor Eva just lost. Hope she'll enjoy the remainder of her time in HK. Kaori about to polish off Chan. Nguyen and KJ deadlocked at 16-16
badMania 11-27-2007, 07:41 PM Matches involving Team INA
11:00AM MS Sony Dwi Kuncoro [7] vs Boonsak Ponsana -- a tricky match, but, Sony should handle Boonsak.
12:20PM XD Hsieh Yu-Hsin/Chien Yu-Chin vs Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir [2] -- a good practice match for the World Champion to stretch their muscles.
12:20PM MD Tsai Chia-Hsin/Hu Chung-Hsien vs Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto -- the Chinese-Taipei pair has beaten Koo/Tan last week, and I hope Luluk/Alvent do not underestimate this pair and progress to a rematch with Eriksen/Hansen.
01:00PM MS Mohd Hafiz Hashim vs Simon Santoso -- a tough match for both players, but, Simon has improved this year and he should beat Hafiz.
01:00PM MD Alroy Tanama Putra/Hui Wai Ho vs Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan [3] -- like Nova/Butet, a practice match for Kido/Hendra to get used to the court.
02:20PM WD Fiona Mckee/Charmaine Reid vs Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti -- Rani/Endang have been stopped in early rounds many times this year. However, they should beat the Canadian pair today.
04:20PM MD Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi vs Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo -- the match of the day for INA players and AG/Joko have a tough match against the improving Guo/Xie. The Chinese pair has an edge.

11:00AM MS 02:20PM WD Fiona Mckee/Charmaine Reid vs [B]Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti -- Rani/Endang have been stopped in early rounds many times this year. However, they should beat the Canadian pair today.
They should retire if they can beat the Canadians by a wide margin ;). I estimate the Canadians won't get more than 24 points in 2 games.

WOMEN'S SINGLES - who care, either Zhang Ning or Xie Xingfang
MEN'S DOUBLES - Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan (a dramatic win over Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah in 3-sets, with nail-biting final few points)
WOMEN'S DOUBLES - who care too....either Gao Ling/Huang Sui or Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen
MIXED DOUBLES - Zheng Bo/Zhao Tingting (beating Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir in 2 close sets)

oh..many thxs...so defending champ dominated by CHN team (only 1 INA)...I think this year more competitive...hope INA team will take 2 title again (MD and MS or XD) like in China open..:p
robin7 11-27-2007, 08:19 PM GONG Weijie beat Dicky PALYAMA 21-18 21-12. It compensates my PAW on Tien Minh a bit.

Tough for Boonsak today. I think Sony is in tremendous form and should win.
Tougher for Slalkjit as she faces the super hot WMC, fresh off her destruction of the Chinese Armada at the CO.

Yes Robin, agree with you. The Vietnamese has scalped a few big names and always seem to run the big boys close. Needs a little bit more experience to catapult him into the big time.

Frankly speaking, I rather ask WMC to withdraw, she needs more rest, I mean, her knees. The fall in CO 3rd set was quite serious.
Anyway, may be she can cope with her injury...so, lets cheer for her.:D

madbad 11-27-2007, 09:21 PM WMC must take the 2nd game quickly to conserve her energy for the competition. I fear if she is take to a rubber (but wins), the gas tank may well be empty in the next round.
robin7 11-27-2007, 09:21 PM She's needs the Olympic points. Who knows when she'll be able have a good run
A QF finish here will be good for her. I think it is quite reasonable.

robin7 11-27-2007, 09:29 PM Oh no, WMC is not looking good...
TH_4_President 11-27-2007, 09:29 PM 15-9..Sony is leading again..I'm going to win my first PAW and INA squad is going to cheer at the same time heheheh :D:D:D
Jessica 11-27-2007, 09:29 PM Wong Mew Choo lose focus in the second set..behind with 6-14 now...
carine 11-27-2007, 09:29 PM Wat happen to mew choo??
badMania 11-27-2007, 09:29 PM Sony is leading comfortably 18-10. He should win this one, with a negotiable R16 match against Yeoh Kay Bin or Lu Yi.
I think only opponents like Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Taufik Hidayat, Bao Chunlai, Chen Jin and perhaps Peter Gade can beat Sony at the moment. The quarter-final match against Chen Jin will be a good test of his credential to break to the top 4.
madbad 11-27-2007, 09:30 PM Looks like Sony will win comfortably. WMC is getting destroyed. Has she give up the game and planning for the rubber?
Inky2000 11-27-2007, 09:31 PM Choo Choo couldn't handle the drought?
TH_4_President 11-27-2007, 09:31 PM 19-10..2 more points..finish him..!! win it for INA Sony..INDONESIA JAYA!!
Erwin Kyoto 11-27-2007, 09:31 PM sony can win easily...19-12
Jessica 11-27-2007, 09:31 PM I think WMC is giving up the second set..
badMania 11-27-2007, 09:31 PM Wong Mew Choo should just skip Hong Kong Open to conserve her energy. A first round loss here will be acceptable too since she will not exert herself in the next few days.
robin7 11-27-2007, 09:32 PM WMC has given up the 2nd game...
madbad 11-27-2007, 09:32 PM Sony is leading comfortably 18-10.
Sony is just on the edge of the top echelon. If he can string together some good wins against them and win a tournament, he could join them.
mAlAn 11-27-2007, 09:32 PM I think for WMC, the way I see it :
Seems like she lost power and stamina in 2nd sets. Need to be more focus I think.
TH_4_President 11-27-2007, 09:33 PM YEA!! Sony Won..and so do I with my first PAW :D:D:D:D:D
badMania 11-27-2007, 09:33 PM What a comfortable victory it turns out to be for Sony Dwi Kuncoro as he beat Boonsak Ponsana 21-10, 21-14 in just 30 mins to reach R16.
madbad 11-27-2007, 09:33 PM Sony wins. He is certainly a threat. Very impressive indeed.
nwy5633 11-27-2007, 09:33 PM look like she gonna use the same tactics again..
win 1st, rest 2nd go for 3rd..
but salakjit is not china players..
she play less than everyone there..
should be a win for salakjit if she din make many mistake..
robin7 11-27-2007, 09:34 PM Sony won it............

Jessica 11-27-2007, 09:36 PM Wong Mew Choo lose all the points from others...I think she is fatigue now..
Inky2000 11-27-2007, 09:36 PM LETS go ! Finished off WMC ! U can do it ! Salakjit.. Revenge for ur brother !
She should take revenge to a INA player, not MAS one.
eaglehelang 11-27-2007, 09:36 PM Wong Mew Choo should just skip Hong Kong Open to conserve her energy. A first round loss here will be acceptable too since she will not exert herself in the next few days.
2nd set looks similar to Finals of China Open. WMC cant skip Hong Kong, she needs the Oly points mah.
robin7 11-27-2007, 09:37 PM Oh no, WMC is trailing 0-6 in the rubber... Salakjit should win..
samuel882 11-27-2007, 09:37 PM 7-0 ! WMC win last week was just a fluke

nwy5633 11-27-2007, 09:37 PM maybe zhang ning too might crash if she not yet recovered..

CLELY 11-27-2007, 09:39 PM Yes!Sony passes first test to knock out Thai Superman, straight sets.
Inky2000 11-27-2007, 09:39 PM 7-0 ! WMC win last week was just a fluke
I wouldn't think along that direction. As I've posted before, I would be forgiving in case she is eliminated at HKO in early round ... with an unexpected win in Guangzhou, she's a well-spent force - both mentally and physically fatigue. Hope she will get used to win more titles in the long run and therefore she won't repeat this - winning one title, being beaten in the next tournament.
nwy5633 11-27-2007, 09:39 PM haiz..
wat a waste not to paw on salakjit..
eaglehelang 11-27-2007, 09:40 PM 7-0 ! WMC win last week was just a fluke
No, WMC injured her knee during the finals- the part that they keep showing the replay, I think at 15-14, where she fell down to retrieve the shuttle.
In post-match intv, China's media wrote that 2 doctors were putting ice packs on WMC's knee.
But even if she lose, good rest for her to prepare for SEA Games next week.
skeleton 11-27-2007, 09:40 PM well i dun think it was a fluke.. if it was..how come she cud beat the other 3 top players in QF,SMF.. were those just fluke as well?

badMania 11-27-2007, 09:43 PM Taufik's SS results so far (from 7 tournaments):
Runner-Up: Japan
SF: Indonesia
QF: China Masters, French
R16: Singapore, Denmark
R32: Malaysia
Erratic and not much can be expected from him.
Sony's SS results so far (from 11 tournaments):
QF: Korea, All-England, Swiss, Indonesia, Denmark, China
R16: Malaysia, Singapore, China Masters
R32: Japan and French
Not too bad and quite a stable performance, except that he can't breach SF, so, he's Mr Quarter-Final
Simon's SS results so far (from 9 tournaments):
Runner-Up: Swiss
SF: Japan
QF: Denmark
R16: All England, Singapore, Indonesia, China Masters, French
R32: China
Improving performance from Simon this year since he can make it to the top 10 ranking. More is expected of him next year.
nwy5633 11-27-2007, 09:43 PM zhang ning is following mew choo!!
trailing 8-10
madbad 11-27-2007, 09:43 PM A pattern seems to be developing for the top players. Because they have played so much, as the season goes on, they're getting upset more and more. Physically, they're pretty wasted.
badMania 11-27-2007, 09:44 PM A loss for WMC will be good for her also... Rest before the SEA games...
Exactly....I think she needs a rest....why should she exert herself too much before the SEA Games?

robin7 11-27-2007, 09:44 PM 7-0 ! WMC win last week was just a fluke
Well, now we have a bananakid of Malaysia version. R u trying to get attention here? Zhu Lin is having the fate after clinching the WC. It is very common on sports that winning a title and then falling in the 1st round on the next tourney.

Nahhhhh, she only won one SS. Nicol David, yes, Nicol lost 2 tourneys, sports ministry & NSC want "penjelasan". Same goes for KKK/TBH.
Once you're string of wins, one time lost, must explain, very high pressure our athletes......
happyice81 11-27-2007, 09:52 PM congrate to salajit...

badMania 11-27-2007, 09:52 PM How many pts will WMC gain by losing the 1st round here?
She will earn 2220 points here.
From the WBF website:
The BWF ranking list as of 1 May 2008 will be used to determine qualification for the Olympics (top 10 tourneys from 1 May 2007-31 April 2008):
These points will surely be counted:
China Open Super Series WINNER 9200
French Open Super Series SF 6240
Chinese Taipei GP Gold QF 3850
World Championships QF 6600
Sudirman Cup Mixed Team Championships (to be replaced by Uber Cup Qualification in February 2008) 4507
These points could be replaced by better performance in the remaining 4 Super Series and 1 GP Gold events in 2008:
Hong Kong Open SS R32 2220
Japan Open SS R16 3600
Singapore Open SS R16 3600
She should remain in the top 10 as long as she reaches R16 or better in 5 of the tournaments on offer next year.
mikefly 11-27-2007, 09:52 PM No point for WMC win, if she is injured, let her rest...she will be back...
CLELY 11-27-2007, 09:52 PM WMC lost 3rd set 21-10. She must be very exhausted after Sun's match, need to rest her knees.
Yeah, looks like fatigue reason as 8th seed Wong Mew Choo lost to Salakjit Ponsana in rubber. Contrast result from winner of CHN Open SS but she get early exit now...
skeleton 11-27-2007, 09:53 PM datuk azalina must punish her...............................

I do not agree with this kinda decision. If wanna withdraw, do it before the tournament starts. I know she will get some compensation by BWF, but who care. The $$ she bang from CO Last week is more than enough !
eaglehelang 11-27-2007, 09:58 PM Yeah, this is her 2nd win over WMC after the Sudirman Cup earlier this year.
During Sudirman Cup, WMC injured her foot in 2nd game, but she decided to play on and lost. That was why Anita Kaur replaced her in subsequent matches.
Here in HK, her knees hurt & she's exhausted.
madbad 11-27-2007, 09:59 PM I do not agree with this kinda decision. If wanna withdraw, do it before the tournament starts. I know she will get some compensation by BWF, but who care. The $$ she bang from CO Last week is more than enough !
As mentioned in other posts, it's not the $$, it's the ranking points. even by losing in the 1st round, she collects points. The battle for OG spots is fierce and every opportunity to solidfy your position must be taken.
It's the same for all the players on the fringe of qualification. Exhausted or not, they need the points, so they play on.
abedeng 11-27-2007, 09:59 PM Even during our talk with Rexy yesterday, he agreed that Wong should just withdraw.
Agreed, in the 3 matches against CHN's best, Wong Mew Choo had stretched herself very hard to retrieve those "impossible" shots, harder than I've ever seen.
Hope she can recover sufficiently for the SEA Games challenge, 'cos Salakjit will be on home soil ......
skeleton 11-27-2007, 10:00 PM the injury ,pressure she's facing now is so understandable .. and i am hoping she'll do the best in Sea Korat..

But MAS practice is, if we have registered players, they have to play. Withdrawal is only for injuries. MAS didn't bank on WMC winning China Open.
samuel882 11-27-2007, 10:03 PM As mentioned in other posts, it's not the $$, it's the ranking points. even by losing in the 1st round, she collects points. The battle for OG spots is fierce and every opportunity to solidfy your position must be taken.

Why should worry about qualifying to the OG. With the limitation on 2 to max 3 players per country. She should face little hesistance for earninig a spot in OG. (even a player from South Africa , Nigeria, Brazil were eligible!!!)
Unless, her perfomance in the upcoming SS starting from next Jan towards the ending periods of OG Qualifying is very, very BAD . Lose in first round on each SS. Then, her position will be in high risk
eaglehelang 11-27-2007, 10:03 PM I do not agree with this kinda decision. If wanna withdraw, do it before the tournament starts. I know she will get some compensation by BWF, but who care. The $$ she bang from CO Last week is more than enough !
1) Rexy is a coach, he should know better right?
2) WMC wont get compensation, she'll be fined like Taufik. I think you meant fined.
3) Again, she needs Oly points. Remember she's injury prone. She got injured during Sudirman Cup... There were also other times when she had to skip tourneys due to injury, so who knows when she aggaravate injury, have to skip tournament.
Then lose points, so, I suppose she felt ok enuf to play in HK.
Same goes for our WD Chin EH.
4) And they have to be in top 16 or not qualify except for certain countries where badminton is not popular.
Louisa 11-27-2007, 10:04 PM whatever it is, lets give her a rest, physically n mentally.

Oh...the 1st round points for Indonesia, China Masters and Denmark Open might yet be counted if Wong turns out to be exiting in R32 in EVERY tourney she participate in next year.

wat is the score??
can tell me fast?
s1nn3r 11-27-2007, 10:15 PM Wow, Zhang Ning just escaped from losing to Petya. If she lost 2nd game, I bet Petya could have won.
Profesional players have less rest because of the hectic schedule....
Maybe we should change the ranking point abit to like tennis...
Taking only the 12best tournament of the players for the year instead of all?

i think BWF is taking this kind of system dy..
well-son 11-27-2007, 10:17 PM I was in front of my computer, watching the livescore when WMC was leading in the 1st set, but a few minutes later I came back just found she had just lost to Salajit. What I think is she must be very exhausted after the CO's victory. Congrats to Salakjit, anyway.
ZN also struggling against Petya. At 32, it takes even more effort to come out strong after exhausting matches. However she is at game point 20-18
That's true that after playing so many games in CO just now, the players must be very exhausted. We can see yestertday Chen Jin also was struggling in the 1st set, though he won at last.
Here we see ZN also struggling against Petya, though he won the 1st set at last, but it was not an easy game. And yet he just won the match over Petya. It is her experiece to make a different with WMC's loss.
In other side, we saw the fresher TH had no difficulties to beat CH yesterday. Also KKK/TBH, LD... are the fresher ones.
abedeng 11-27-2007, 10:17 PM LYB should be happier now, since WMC is already out. But others can take up the challenge (Yippie, Wang Chen, Zhou Mi, Tine, Judith, Jun, even Hirose and Salakjit). Just too bad that Wang Chen and Zhou Mi had too play each other.
At the very least, I am hoping for not having all-CHN WS final affair.
badMania 11-27-2007, 10:18 PM Taking only the 12best tournament of the players for the year instead of all?
BWF only takes the best 10 tournaments from the past 12 months to compute ranking points.
MaLaYsIa Boleh! 11-27-2007, 10:20 PM arghh..
kay bin leading 5-1
T.T
robin7 11-27-2007, 10:21 PM I think these points WILL NOT be counted towards Olympics qualification. Olympic qualification points started from the Singapore Super Series 2007, ie: 1 May 2007 to 31 April 2008. These tourneys will be replaced by the 2008 equivalents.
Oh...the 1st round points for Indonesia, China Masters and Denmark Open might yet be counted if Wong turns out to be exiting in R32 in EVERY tourney she participate in next year.
Thanks. I have a clearer picture now.
abedeng 11-27-2007, 10:21 PM The other JPN cute pair have forced rubber on ENG.
badMania 11-27-2007, 10:21 PM Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg are tied at one-set all with Aki Akao/Tomomi Matsuda. Meanwhile, the Korean youngster Cho Gun Woo/Yoo Yeon Seong have taken the first set 21-12 against the World Championships bronze-medallist Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda and are neck-to-neck in the second set.

Again you must consider changing your nick since you pawed against a Malaysian instead of supporting her! It is just unsavoury! :(

No hope for Lu Yi as Yeoh Kay Bin leads 11-4 now.
samuel882 11-27-2007, 10:26 PM chinese Juniors is very inconsistent.. That's the main reason why they often being left out for major tournaments.

badMania 11-27-2007, 10:29 PM Cho Gun Woo/Yoo Yeon Seong have beaten Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda in straight sets 21-16, 21-18. They will await the winner of the match between Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen and Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah.

X Ball 11-27-2007, 10:42 PM HAFIZ TO BEAT SIMON TODAY -- anyone taking 20 sticks of satay bet ?:D
abedeng 11-27-2007, 10:42 PM YKB escaped punishment with 22-20 win. He had better concentrate in 2nd game.
badMania 11-27-2007, 10:42 PM Errr, are the XD World Champs also fatigued? They are behind the TPE pair.
Well, they are probably just stretching their legs :D
robin7 11-27-2007, 10:42 PM OMG, I can't believe what I saw... LY took 9 straight pts to reach game pt 20-19 from 11-19 down. Luckily YKB won 22-20.
Misty100 11-27-2007, 10:42 PM WMC's participation in HKG is not top priority this week. She will be leaving for Korat SEA Games next week, and she was told to win nothing less than the gold medal. She is troubled by a knee injury, and she has not given it enough time to heal. Besides, after that fantastic journey to winning at CO, she needed a break very badly. She should have withdrawn from HKO, but she chooses to play since she has been entered.
Take a kit kat, have a bread, girl. Then, do well in Korat by bringing back the gold medal.
vching 11-27-2007, 10:43 PM chase 9 points in a row just to lose.............. luyi luyi.....
