Surprisingly, there is none thread was created for this INA Pair

a big applauds must be given to this WC, added to their credentials of being crowned the World Champs, they manage to won two SS titles back to back.
They were the second MD pair beside KOO/TAN who able to did that two weeks in a row.

I must admit , when they won the WC in KL, i am not impressed . They avoided to meet their main nemesis, Koo/Tan & Fu/Chai on the road to their title. The only strongest pair during their path was Tony/Chandra.
I am quite happy know that they prove me wrong by winnning titles over titles . That was not just a pure fluke in WC.

Markis Kido , is a real athletes. I wonder how many MD players in current circuit able to perform jumping smash right from the beginning of the match towards the ends
I am curious to know what kinda energy drinks he took everyday  If he quit Baddy one day, he can considered switch field to high jump events:eek: in track & field .

Hendra Setiawan, He is very cool. Not much expression on court. Sometimes it is hard for opponenets to read his mind & wonder where /when will he attack. He is deadliness in net plays. Simply outplayed the NET Plays King - tony Gunawan in several occasions !

Looks like no other pair now can stop them to clinching the MD gold medal in Beijing now.
Fu/Chai -- Too soft , less of their usual attacking power game.
Koo/Tan -- I am really don't understand, they are becoming quite unpredictable pair at the moment. Too "fresh" i would say for challenging fir a gold medal in the prestigous OG
Korean pairs -- Not impressive throughout the world year of 2007
Denmark - It would be an extras if the even manage to win a medal next summer..

I strongly believe they will be able to emulate their countrymen previous achievement at Olympics .
Good Luck :)

I like MK/HS.:)
MK has one WHOOPING jumpsmash...:eek::confused::eek:
HS is versatile, composed and focused. Above all, he is soo down-to-earth!!!
They're my favorite MD pair...:):):)
Plainly for the fact that they achieve the improbable so often...:D:D:D

KKK/TBH have an impeccable head-to-head record against them, though (MK/HS can't seem to play well against them)...:(:(:(

WIthout doubt!!!

From the beginning....This pairing has been "deadly and lethal"....
No doubt...they will be the strongets candidates for the OG:)

COngrats to Kido/Hendra !!!

and they are humble..

they never shout and jump like monkeys...

Both are still shy. The whole team was wondering where they were yesterday when we were about to go for dinner, only to learn that they had quietly gone for dinner with their friend, Albertus Susanto Njoto

Indeed, they still look awkward in front of the camera....especially Markis Kido  Both players are usually together, when I bumped them during dinner and in the lobby, which shows that they are really a team player in every aspect.

Hendra Setiawan (or S as the team occassionally calls him) is really cool and very business-like....showing no emotion at all even when he made some errors. Just a tap on the shoulder of Markis Kido whenever his partner was the one making the error. Kido is more prone to showing his emotion

As I mentioned several times already, Hendra is increasingly more and more matured as a player. Even the Chinese fans appreciate him (I suspect this guy is also in badmintoncentral :D):

"技战术。从前感觉这一对有点“傻”,球路比较死板,最近几次比赛聪明了很多。亨德拉前半场我个人感觉比古建 杰还要好一点点点,技术精良,速度快,下手狠。" -- recently, the INA pair has become smarter in their game-play. IMHO, Hendra's coverage of the court was slightly better than Koo Kien Keat, with his good skill, speed and sharpness in dealing with the bird.

"亨德拉前半场和网前小球,我也觉得比古要好,及有可能是继朴,吉, 和吴之后另一个网前统治高手" -- most probably, Hendra is going to be become another great player in front of the net, after Park Joo Boong, Sigit Budiarto and Tony Gunawan.

As for Kido, his task is to attack from the back, which can become rather dull to watch. But, I also have seen some variety in his performance recently ;)

Indeed.....this is something that Sigit Pamungkas still has to work on before Kido/Hendra can be called a great pair  World Championships title is achieved...now left the Olympics Gold Medal in 2008, All-England (many opportunities), and the Asian Games in 2010. Not to mention being able to help Team INA to regain the Thomas and Sudirman Cup, like what Fu/Cai managed to do in 2004-2007.

They still have a lot of work to do......so.....let's take it one step at a time.

More compliments from the Chinese fans (focussing on Hendra of course):

"亨德拉除了前场技术很好以外,后场杀球也是不错,昨天直接杀死吴/陈组合几个球了。马亨两人虽然各有侧重,但没有什么软肋,不象中国的风云,必须前云后峰才能赢" -- besides his impressive front court coverage and net-skill, Hendra's smash from the back of the court is pretty good also, which resulted in a few points against Tony/Candra yesterday. Even though both Kido and Hendra have excelled their respective roles, they do not seem to have any major weakness either, unlike Fu/Cai, which have to rely on Cai Yun in front and Fu Haifeng at the back in order to win

"印尼亨德拉很全面,技术、心理都好;反而基多比较容易抽风" -- Hendra is more all rounded in terms of skills and mental attitude. On the other hand, Kido is more prone to making errors.

"亨德拉网前技术风格和吴又有点不同,除了封的紧,另外就是敢放
,前几天打球居然也去模仿亨德拉那种回放, 看来吴俊明后候又有新的模仿对象了,似乎对古的网前打法不感冒" -- there is a certain difference between Hendra's and Tony's netting skills. Besides the tight coverage, Hendra's netplay is more varied and he is more daring to play some outrageous trick shots. A few days ago, Tony even copied some of Hendra's trick shots.....

They still have a lot of work to do......so.....let's take it one step at a time.

1) Oh yes, next time you manage to meet them, please ask Kido to grin widely during prize presentation. Many times he look so serious like he didnt want the title, he dont want can give all to his partner, he he.

2) Even you are frustrated they 'always lose easily' (your words) to KKK/TBH. Those matches were about the only time, Hendra showed frustration.

Anyway, they've improved since WC. Hendra not so nervous anymore. Wonder what type of ginseng or Tongkat Ali Kido has been taking, smash from beginning to end. Tony/Chandra also shake head.

3) Since the top 3 pairs seems to taking turns winning :
OG - Still another 7 - 8 months to go to improve for all 3 pairs
AE - Fu/Cai had it, KKK/TBH had it, next year may just be Kido/Setiawan's turn.
Thomas Cup 2008 - we shall see together, maybe Indonesia can snatch from China's hands
Asian Games 2010 - A couple of years away, up for grabs too.

Good observation from u as always :D Indeed, there was certain apprehension whenever Kido/Hendra faced Koo/Tan. The mood is already different from the very beginning, with Kido/Hendra straight away under the pressure  Not only Kido, Hendra was also affected.

In fact, I observed that Hendra also showed some hesitation when he made a couple of continous errors yesterday, when they were playing in the less-favoured court (with the draft and all those problems). He was probably watching how Nova's numerous errors in the first set of the XD match eventually costed the INA pair that set.

These are the little things that both players would have to improve before the big events. I will prefer it if they face Koo/Tan in front of the home crowd in the Malaysia Super Series (likely to be in the Final since they will be the top 2 seeds). Losing again is okay if they play bravely and force at least a rubber-set  That will be a small improvement already

I wont write off Fu/Cai. They will be game for Beijing next year. They got the experience and the titles to back them up.

I like Hendrawan/Kido for their down to earth nature. No showboating, no fancy stuff etc. No colouring of the hair, chains, numerous rings and bracelets. They are all business when on the court. In short, they are professional full time badminton players, not some metrosexual wanna be. No wonder they are World Champions.

I also feel the older guys like ML/JE, TG/CW will also be strong contenders in Beijing next year. For these guys to still be playing top class badminton in their mid 30s, they will be there and may get the lucky break in Beijing!

On the sentimental side, I hope either TG/CW or ML/JE takes that gold next year.

I agree. Remember, Cai Yun And Fu Haifeng have homeground advantage.
The olympic gold medal is theirs to lose.

Not to mentioned, everytime the shuttle hits the ground near the lines...you know the line judge/umpire will rule in favor of them....Kido/Setiawan or KKK/TBH must overcome this diadvantage to stand a chance....this is the time to see what their mental toughness is made of.

M. Lungaard/JE or CTF/LWanWah or other veterans might have some experience in mind games.....so they might overcome the pressure cooker of the olympics.

Aiyooo, like that, KKK/TBH have to add Kido/Setiawan to the list too, along with the Japanese, Taiwanese, Tony/Chandra, Fu/Cai,Luluk/Alvent.

Not just Rexy influence cos when Kido/Setiawan face other Msia pairs - the oldies CTF/LWW, Gan/Lin, Tan BS/Ong, they are not afraid, only KKK/TBH. I dont think Zakry/Fairuz have played them.

And surprisingly, Gan/Lin, supposed to be the weakest Msia MD, managed to stretch them to 21-23 in Macau Open. the coaches said Gan/Lin should have won if not cos of nervousness.

Like see KKK/TBH face, already lose confidence - of course good for our Msia MD but this thread is abt Kido/Setiawan.

Dull. Don't say that! You obviously haven't had a chance to stand close or as a receiver to Kido's smash. Since you are already his friend, you should try it. Get Kido to smash a few shuttles to you or stand close to him when he practice his jump smash. It gives you plenty of adrenaline rush, just like watching F1 (and it's free for you;)). Just don't hold me responsible if you get 'killed'. :p:p

Yes, the Olympics Gold medal is for theirs to lose...but u also remember....Fu/Cai tend to perform badly in front of their home crowd. They lost in the Invitational World Cup 2005 to Tony/Howard, in China Masters 2006 Final to Eriksen/Hansen last year, and of course having bad records in the China Open from 2005-2007  They beat Kido/Hendra in China Masters this year due to some dubious line calls at the time when the INA pair was controlling the match.

Hmm, i just logged in BC, and just started posting~didn't follow the last 2 rounds of the HK Open & haven't read much of the threads/posts, but looks like it was a jubilant day for our badMania y'day..:);)...

..hehe, who else to hold and present the winning cheques to the winners and runner-ups than our own GGSally (Sally Yeh)..:D:cool:

badMania, i watched the telecast and i saw you and Hau-ge congratulating Markis & Hendra after they won:D...apparently they broadcasted the Finals in INA as well (thru cable)..
They really should learn how to smile  Look at how their seniors enjoyed the accolades from the crowds and sweet smile during the prize presentation ceremony. Sigh......
:D:D I did remind them....always SMILE......:D:D ...They forgot.....sigh!
:o..yeah, that's what i heard also from some people in INA, watching the broadcast y'day:p...They said, "why are the winners not smiling at all?? As if they're the ones who lost"....:p...Even Tony & Candra were all smiles....

So, badMania, next yr Markis & Hendra will try to go for a three-peat CHN Open & HK Open titles??..:p:rolleyes::D;)

The caption should read 1) "Our arms are tired, our legs are cramping, our bodies are aching, can you ppl speed it up so we can go back and crash <yawn>"
2) "sup sup water only lah win SS title, we mighty mouse & mighty pillar, no prob, just give us the $$$$, then leave us alone to enjoy it."

This time not so bad, at least Kido didnt look like he wanted to eat somebody. They are about the only winners I've ever seen who 'forgot' to smile.

I feel a bit strange on how the match between MK/HS anad TG/CW ended yesterday. Is it bad call from line judge? Surely not the end that everybody has expected.

While most have high expectation for Hendra, I noticed that they lose 2nd set due to many unforced errors but Hendra. I shall say the weak point is not on Kido but the key point is on Hendra's mind and mood. Quite similar with Nova's role in XD

Come on! Are you saying that the judging is going to be biased based on a few judgemental calls??

And I think having homeground advantage can actually swing both sides. It can be an advantage or disadvantage. LCW, for example had the homeground during the last WC but he caved in. So, I will say the pair that hold its nerves coupled with some lady luck will take that gold.

KKK/TBH, I doubt is capable of making the semis, let alone taking that gold in Beijing. They are not consistent enough and dont seem to possess the mental toughness to handle such a big tournament ... yet.

Who cares abt whether its a bad call or not....the veteran pair was trailing quite badly :D Nevertheless, we enjoyed the game.

Hendra made many errors in the second set because they were on the less favoured side of the court, which happened also to be the court where Nova lost many points in his serves in the first set and also the side where Lin Dan was thrashed badly 9-21 in the first set.

Why this post...title..'The real HK Open MD Champion'...why the real...??

Congratulation to MK/HS...for winning HK Open 2007 MD title....its real for sure...after playing so well..tru out the tourny...

For me,..The top 3 pairs...MD standard in the world now is so...close.......
They kind of taking turns to win title.......its like merry go round.......First three months early 2007..belongs to KKK/TBH......then...mid year ...owned by CY/FHF.....then....3rd.quarter of the year...to MK/HS.....The last three months at the end of 2007....CY/FHF took 1 title(FO).....KKK/FHF...won 2 titles(DO and Macau).....and MK/HS....took 2 titles in a row...CO and HKO...
So..who ever performed better at time.....they will stay on top........Only TG/CW managed to steal one ttle(JO) from these three pair.......

Lets.......what will happened in 2008.....

Addition : Dont forget Korean Open SS: One of the Korean pairs : Lee/Jung or Lee/Hwang won it

And yes :
4 SS titles to Fu/Cai (Spore, Indonesia, China Masters,France)
4 SS titles to KKK/TBH(Msia, AE, Swiss) + 2 GP Gold
2 to Kido/Setiawan(China,Hong Kong) + 1 WC + 1 GP Gold
1 to Tony/Chandra(Japan)
1 to Korea(Korea) + 1 GP Gold (Thailand)

With 4th quarter a mixture, with the 3 top pairs taking turns to win, so to speak : KKK/TBH, Fu/Cai, Kido/Hendra. Funny too, 1st 3 quarters of the year was the same : KKK/TBH, then Fu/Cai, then Kido/Hendra. Kido /Hendra good at catching up and overtaking.

World ranking will continue in "musical chairs" fashion between these 3 pairs.

Note : GP not included cos most of them didnt participate, Lee/Jung or Lee/Hwang did win one or two each.

hmm... I didn't saw their final match in HKOP, but my first Impression of them wasn't really good , since I saw them for the first time in DO semifinal where they lost so easily to Malays Pairs. They're so hopeless from the beginning , ehm...I'd even doubt that they're the world championship, because their game's so no no no :D

Well, I should re-considering to watch their game again, maybe they've really improved ;)

Throughout the whole year, the veterans did achieve some creditable results.
however , from what i see, they tempted to make many unforce errors compare with the current top 3 pairs. ML/JE , TG/CW & also not forget the MAS veterans Choong/Lee. Their "Unforce Errors " stats in each match if u really accumulate , was really hard to believe..
I not saying that KIDO/HENDRA ; FU/CHAI & KOO/TAN; FU/CHAI seldom make errors , but the amount of errors is lesser compare to those veterans
They way they execute the trick shots is fabulous :)
They were still the force to be reckon with.. With their experince, who knows one of them wil be able to snatch a GOLD  in BEinjing next summer..

Kido's smash is very hard indeed.....I just hope Badmania wil not try it....:D:D even you receive, your return will go to net or wide...or...smashed by Kido in front of net....:D:D....same as Guo Zen Dong....

I am not doubting his smash. It's just that smashing always can be a bit monotonous :D
Yes.. His smashes is the most powerful we have among the MD field. Previuosly it was Fu Hai Feng. He is top in term of speed, but talk about POWER.. No one can match KIDO at the moment.
However, i did realised sometimes KIDO smashed wide :o Maybe he jumped too high and misfiring to the wrong postion . This is one of the key factors for him to improve. Hendra was execellent in net plays, and as the Chinese media suggested, he is becoming an all rounded MD players -- Can play very well in net & at the baseline...

..i watched the last match of the day, the MD Finals, which i thought for a moment wasn't going to be broadcasted..thanks to the extended broadcast of a Chinese basketball game..:p

From what i saw, both Markis & Hendra were the aggressors and controlled the entire match, except in the 2nd set. And once again, as is always the case in doubles play, whichever pair can control the net play, that pair will most likely win the match.
On the other hand, Tony and Candra, IMO, seemed a bit tentative and played too defensively; a few times, a bit slow in reaction. Both were making uncharacteristic unforced errors, mostly by hitting the shuttles into the net (smashing or returning shots). They did show some of their fighting spirit and experience in the 2nd set, with Tony controlling the net and both players displaying some nice shuttle placements, off of the serves. But it seemed as if they used up all of their energies and had nothing left for the 3rd set.
But credits to both Hendra and Markis for creating and making their veteran counterparts play off-balance, and often times forcing Tony & Candra into uncomfortable and defensive positions, which ultimately led to Hendra & Markis pouncing the shuttles away on any weak returns.
Me too.. I said from now on they must smile, and smile in pics with fans too.. But Hendra said "no!!!!!!!!".. FAINT.
Yes, indeed!:)..Both of them can learn from these 2 pros below on how to relax and...........smiiiiiile..:):D;)
