Hi guys! This is my first post on here however I have been lurking in the back ground for a year or so now, slowly sponging off information form you guys hehe!
I play in 4 leagues in the UK in the worcestershire/warwickshire areas.
Anyway down to business.
More and more companies are bringing out £50 racquets,.. and these days,.. In my opinion,... £50 can be really well spent,.. or really poorly spent but generally,.. I've found if you stick to the bigger companies, then your £50 will generally sort you out nicely.
I've been playing on Apacs racquets for about a year and love them to bits,.. i actually prefer them to the Real Yonex equivelents (yes shoot me now lol) and am about to take delivery of 4 Apacs racquets soon.
However on my journeys I've come across Ashaway,... I've worn their shoes and soaked their towels but never had a racquet of theirs... so.. I though, hey, for £50 including P&P I'll give it a go. I ordered an ASHAWAY Electro VB.
I arrived,.. I played on it,.. and I came to the following conclusion. The Strings are the making and the breaking of a racquet. The racquet frame itself Is really quite nice,... Very fancy paintjob, Good solid moulding, Very light and perhaps slightly head heavy, Mine weighs 79 grams,.. can't seem to find a proper figure,... advertising ranges from 75-80 grams.
The strings are really let this racquet down... NO push, Just bouncy bouncy and very dead,... dissapointing really considering Yonex can send out a £35 Muscle power 23 and straight out thebox it's strung with better strings. I played on the Ashaway for an hour and wasn't pleased.
Don't get me wrong,... I think this Ashaway has a lot of potential if you can look past the chrome paint job.
So why create this really long post?... I've noticed a lot of people asking about the Ashaway racquet with no real answers. So I've just finished stringing the racquet up with Yonex BG65Ti's strung at 24lbs. (bit different for me as i play my Apacs racquets on BG80's strung at 28lbs)
The frame is straight and it feels very nice. I'm playing on it for the first time tonight in training.
I'll give you all a nice fair evaluation of the Ashaway racquet for all you prospective buyers.... Aint that nice!!
What i can definatley say is,.. the original string are completely useless, rubbish beyond belief.
Mike.
