No doubt, the slimmest chance for INA bdm squad to win gold in SEAG individual competition is WS. XD and MS will get serious obstacles from home shuttlers, Sudket/Saralee and Boonsak respectively.

Ronald withdrew from MS individual event so SIN represented by Kendrick Lee and Derek Wong, MAS has Yeoh Kay Bin and Kuan Beng Hong. Meanwhile INA still depends on the Olympic Champion and SDK.

I'm not too worry about ina's chance in ms&xd. Taufik lost to bonsak in men's team i think just incidental. You know lah taufik! But thanks to sony for his spirit to not underestimate his opponent.
Our xd also still strong enough to thai pair.If one lost still another.

Probably he got injured as Ronald didn't join SIN line-up yesterday in Men's Team Gold Medal Match against INA.

SIN has good WD player JIANG Yanmei/Li Yujia (world ranking 10th)...they can give hard fighting to Vita/Lyliana (world ranking 19th)...

Host MD player (Sudkeet/Phattapol) also has a chance to make upset, they always play in rubber game when met Kido/Hendra...

so WD China masters Champion and MD World Champion must be aware and carefull...

According to BWF website, their head to head is 2-1 in favour of Kido/Setiawan. They only met 3 times since 2004
2004 Sudket/Phattapol won
2006 WC - Kido/Setiawan won, couldnt find records of scoreline
2007 Japan Open - Kido/Setiawan won in 3 sets, Kido/Setiawan lost 1st set, won next 2 sets. Kido/Setiawan if they play 3 sets have a trend(which commentators have also observed), lose 1st set, win 2nd & 3rd set.

So, with home ground cheering, close fight.

Being the flag bearer sure does have some effects...:p

Btw, it was such a great match! Especially the last set, real nail biter. Sony was in fact leading most of the times, too bad Kendrick suddenly became all powered up and won consecutive points to nail the set...

I managed to catch about the last 10 min of the final game between Sony and Kendrick on TV. It was the best I've seen of Kendrick thus far.

And Kendrick surprised me with not only his skill at the net but also his mental strength. He was trailing quite a bit, about 5 points and Sony seemed to have the game wrapped up when Kendrick's concentration seemed to move up a notch. He was not flustered even with so many points to catch up, but remained calm and focussed. And he moved much faster and was rewarded by good anticipations at the net.

It paid off for him in the end with an upset victory over Sony in a very, very close fight.

I hope Tommy from BC London has a chance to watch that match and change his negative view of Kendrick, who has now beaten Indonesia's second best singles player in such an auspicious event as the SEA Games. Remember, Kendrick has also beaten Chen Jin not long ago in the Singapore Open this year. :)

Yes, I think Kendrick played pretty well to beat Sony. I believe that Sony was a bit over confident and was caught off guard from Kendrick's strong resistance. Congrats to SG team :)

Congrats to Kendrick. Could be his year today, but still has to come through Taufik and Boonsak.

Not an impossible task, and it has happened before at Singapore's home soil.

The "unthinkable" can happen, hopefully on Thai soil as it has happened to WMC even on China soil! :D

Yup, flag bearing does increase your muscle strength, probably exponentially since you have to lift the heavy pole against gravity. :D:D:D

No mean feat for the flag bearer to beat an in-form and fit World Championship runnerup, even LCW had to go to 3 games to beat Sony in HK.

The ever reliable Aerotus has uploaded the game in the video sharing thread, so you can watch & re-watch frame by frame. It also made me curious, dont even know what this Kenderick Lee looks like till I saw the photo.

Personally, I think it's not the 'good luck' of being the flag bearer as some BCer have said. Spore guys have to go thru 2 years of National Service, good for training muscles, mental strength...

It's not the "good luck" of being the flag bearer we are talking about. It's the responsibility that comes with being one. The flag bearer himself will want to strive to do better to prove himself worthy of the honour.

Besides, it wouldn't look good if the flag bearer returns home empty-handed...:p

Both BP and KL are flagbearers for their contingents so who's gonna win? KL's netplay is interesting; not fancy but simple and effective.
